View 1 RepliesI have an Acer Aspire On 10inch Notebook that runs on Windows 7 Premium Edition (32bit). I'd been having some troubles with its speed for a day or so and since I'd neglected to do a Windows update. So, I restarted it and hoped that once it installed those updates everything would be fine. My first warning sign was the time that it took to turn off - probably 15 minutes was spent with the screen continuously saying "Shutting Down" and I took this to mean that it was probably a series of updates that I had missed. So, I left it to sit and came back to check on it afterwards. When it finally finished, a black screen took over and sat there for quite some time. Eventually I grew frustrated and restarted the computer, and saw the 'Acer' screen come up, and then the computer screen went black again and a command line started, where I received this message[CODE]

My Toshiba Satellite L755 is receiving the following error at startup:
Check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
This occurred after I used Toshiba Wizard to clear the hardrive. I was attempting to get everything back it's original state.
So far I have gotten into setup by holding f2 at startup. The boot tab reads:
1. HDD/SSD Hitachi HTS545050B9A300 (S1)
2. USB
3. ODD TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633F (PM)
4. FDD
5. LAN Atheros Boot Agent
I have also tried disconnecting the battery and harddrive and then reconnecting them.
I was just on the laptop browsing the internet as normal then all of a sudden out of nowhere it shuts off. Turn it on again.
I get this screen: [URL].
Then I got to the BIOS: [URL]
Then checked bootable devices: [URL]
The HDD is still connected: [URL]
So what do I do? I have valuable files and photos on this hard drive and do not wish to reformat or reinstall my OS.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have XP Pro64 bitand I am trying to upgrade to Win7 64 bit, While it is unwrapping files there is a point where it needs to reboot. When it does it comes up with the error saying it cant find a bootable device or something in that effect. I removed the win7 dvd and hit the restart on the computer. Install continues. It completes but when I try to put all of the data back in I cant open up my user name (Documents and Settings ) folder has a lock on it. I finally gave up and I am reinstalling XP Pro64 bit again as I type.
I will try to upgrade again.
Can anyone explain why when it reboots it wont just continue to install with the disk in the Drive?
Why there is a lock on the folder and wont let me access the files?
I have Windows 7 on a AMD Phenom Machine. Hard Drive died so I put another one in and restored Windows with Acronis True Image.
When I leave the Windows repair disk in the drive, the restored system starts perfectly, runs perfectly etc. But if I pull that repair disk out of the drive I get this error about "No Bootable Device" "Insert Disc". So in other words that repair disk has to be in the drive, else I get the error.
I have already:
1. Verified that the boot sequence points to my Windows Drive
2. Run system repair. That's useless. It just tells me everything is fine.
3. Run bootrec fixmbr, vixboot, rebuildbcd. No problems found
4. Run Chkdsk. No problems found.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 16GB USB drive sitting here calling me.. I have a project I want to do with it as well.
I would like to have Windows 7 32bit, Windows 7 64bit, Hirens Boot CD 9.9, and Windows XP all on the usb drive for install.
So basically I would boot from USB a menu would pop up and a choice of one of these 4 systems would be presented. Once you pick that Disk it would bootup to the install or application selected.
I was able to make a x32 USB Windows 7 stick but im confussed how to do a menu and allows multiple bootable images on a USB drive.
I have a Compaq Presario C700 which is giving me the following error: No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.
I'm a technical user and have been able to fix just about anything, until now. I've done some research, and I've found that this Compaq C700 is a terrible computer that just can't be fixed. They're probably right.
I've tried to boot off an external optical drive, but this failed to load the system. I've checked the boot order is correct and that the optical drive was enabled in the BIOS, but this still did not allow me to boot from the optical drive. I knew that it recognized a system there because it had an underscore, which meant it was trying to boot from the disk, but sadly, no luck.
As for the hard drive, I've replaced it with a spare, couldn't install Windows 7 on it directly from the laptop, so I installed it on my desktop system, then put it back in. Still, the message. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.
I've verified every available BIOS setting to the last detail. The only thing I could think of and haven't yet tried is to try to see if there's a CMOS battery anywhere and disconnect that, but I'm not sure where that could be on a laptop, and taking this thing apart is practically impossible.
I know the CPU and system board and everything else seems to be in working order, it's just that it can't seem to work off of a Windows 7 disc or installation. A red flag for me was when I went into the BIOS (InsydeH20) it mentioned that Vista was the factory installed OS. I wonder if it's doing this because it's expecting, and is proprietary to, Vista.
the hard drive failed... i like to install an external hard drive. I have inserted the recovery CD...removed the failed hard drive yet the error stops to recover

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
I reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly. What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern. And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

My system is Dell Inspiron 17R SE (7720), 1 TB Hard Disk 5400 rpm + 32 GB mSATA, 8 GB RAM, 3rd Gen i7. I was trying to make a bootable USB flash drive for windows 7 from Windows 7 Home Premium Reinstall disk that came with my Dell laptop, using the WinToFlash utility. But in starting the process, the PC froze, all applications (even explorer.exe) stopped, and Alt+Ctrl+Del refused to work. I turned the laptop off and back on, where it refused to even show the OS list and showed a DRMK message instead with a command prompt C:> as:

I tried booting from Windows 7 reinstall DVD but none of the repair options worked. I tried reinstall and repair options but my Hard Drive did not show up. It rather asked to Load Drivers for the Hard Disk. However, it did show any of the USB drives I connected to it, along with an X: drive, which must be the recovery drive for Dell's factory restore. I tried looking for Hard Disk drivers in that but no luck.
Then I downloaded from another PC a USB utility for Seagate Hard Drives from Dell website that makes a bootable USB. I ran that utility and it showed all the test passed (But there was no firmware update during the tests). Another thing I tried was using list disk command on command prompt in Windows Repair, but It did not show any drives, not even the X: drive. It only showed the USB drives I attached to it, or the DVD drive in list volume command.
I cannot boot to windows, I cannot install new windows, I cannot repair the windows and I cannot even factory restore my laptop. The hard drive shows up in BIOS, but not in Windows Boot or Windows Installation. Is there any way I can get my Hard Disk back without losing data? I have two partitions of that drive. I don't care about formatting C: Drive (Windows) but I wanna preserve E: Drive (the one filled with personal data but no programs).
I've discovered three problems with this laptop and think they all might be related? Windows Update not working with error 0x80070057 - I have searched the internet for help on this and tried suggestions like; starting/stopping wuauserv service, deleting WinUpd cache. System Restore not working; unable to create restore points or restore (the last point is from November), this gives error 0x81000101 Shadow Copy Timeout. Again searched and tried fixing all suggestions like making sure the SysRestore services are running. Device Manager is completely blank; also tried suggested repairs like setting correct permissions on Enum folder in registry. On top of the problem specific fix attempts I've also done the following general fixes: sfc /scannow - found problems but unable to fix repaired registry from RegBack reset all Services to default ran combofix and malwarebytes chkdsk /r removed McAfee have checked Windows & Sytem32 folder for correct user permissions I'm sure I've done a few other things but can't recall everything I've tried.Have also tried Windows Repair but stays at "Checking Compatibilty" for hours.Generally Windows seems to be fine except for these three issues; system is quick and general useage is without issues.

View 6 Replies View Relatedseeing as it had infected my services.exe, part of the fix was to get a new copy of it, or something around those lines; this will come in to play later, I think. Anyway, its been a LONG time, my last update whenever I try running windows update, it runs for a bit and tries to receive the updates, but then stops and displays a message saying it failed to update, and gives me the error code of 80246008. I've looked this up, and I see that it possibly has something to do with the background intelligent transfer service.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently built a new PC of which I've had to replace the motherboard already due to it being faulty. Since installing the new motherboard, re-installing all components and re-installing Win 7 on my SSD, I've been getting random BSOD's 1-2 times per day, bug check code 1e. My computer will not go in to sleep mode either without a BSOD - albeit a different bug check code: 0a. I had no such problems on my old board leading me to believe it is a motherboard issue, albeit I'm trying to verify this in order to be able to RMA it if needed.

When the pc has frozen (does not respond to any keyboard commands etc) it sort of powers up, but I get no signal to the monitors and no 'beep' as when the pc boots up properly. If I leave it for 10-15mins it will boot up again fine, but then I get BSOD's. I have had multiple errors such as SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION , BAD_POOL_CALLER, and the BSOD not giving an error as before but listing a .sys file, such as FLTMGR.SYS, TCPIP.SYS, ATAPORT.SYS, NFTS.SYS.I haven't recently installed any new hardware apart from a new 4gb of ram (2x2gb sticks) which I have had for 3 months + now. The only other hardware/software I installed recently was a Logitech webcam, and oddly the crashes did start occuring after this.I have ran memtest for multiple sweeps on each stick of ram and no issue, I have also ran chkdsk and it found no errors. The pc this morning has really been BSOD'ing like mad, so I now have it in safe mode replicating what I was doing and no BSOD as of yet.I have a minidump of the most recent BSOD (as they dont always report a BSOD when they freeze). My pc is around 3.5yrs old, is running Windows 7 64bit, has an Intel Pentium CPU E2220 2.4 ghz processor, and 8gb of DDR2 ram.

2, Stop Error 000000109
I have tested the RAM using memtest overnight and has 15 passes. The problem is i cant reproduce this issue, it seems to be completely random in falling over. I have had it on a test bench for 48 hours running PCMARK 7 and it hasnt fallen over once and then when i have given it back to the customer he says within the hour it was doing it again. I have asked him if there is something specific he is doing when it crashes and he says no its just general use.
