Ok so a while ago I applied a custom boot screen to my laptop but I'm kinda getting sick of it and I just want the old one back. I tried searching for the original boot screen for download but I can't find it. So if anyone can find a way to restore the boot screen or find a download for the original boot screen I'd be really happy.
View 3 RepliesI recently installed some updates in my Proline notebook, but after installing the 30 percent, it failed to restart, with the screen showing nothing (as if it's off). I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have dual boot with Xp and windows 7.when i log into my Xp all the restore points being deleted from windows 7.when i check the disk management information in 7 it shows windows 7 create a logical drive with my Xp primary drive.even i am hide the drive from both windows means Xp drive from windows 7 and vice verse.So i like to unmount or remove the drive partition of windows 7 from Xp and Xp primary from windows 7.So that they dont affect each others system files with being deleted the partitions.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI saw on another thread that I should do a system restore from safe mode on my Acer laptop because when I logged into my computer I couldnt open anything. The system restore was completed (I only restored it to a few days earlier) but when my computer restarted it never allowed me to log on and is stuck on the welcome screen with the little circle thing just turning... I am wondering how long it should take after a system restore for my computer to get to the log in screen. It has been about 8 hours now on the welcome screen. I am started to get a little worried and wondering if I should manually restart my computer by holding down the power button, or will that ruin the system restore or somehow damage my computer?

My restore points are being wiped in Win 7 when I boot into XP, this issue is of course known and a remedy workaround proposed [URL]. However this does not work for me as when I restart XP the Win 7 drive just reappears in my computer as a different drive letter in the chain, i.e., if hide drive H it will reappear as drive F. My operating systems are on different physical hard drives. I have checked and the Win 7 restore points are still being wiped.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell system studio slim desktop, I used the "reinstallation DVD, windows 7 home premium 64-bit" disk to reinstall. After the reinstallation, when it automatically reboots, the screen starts up where I can press F2 or F12 for boot options but after that and windows logo, it stays on a black screen.
For a little background history, the desktop had a power supply die and I bought and added a new PSU. After that it worked until viruses on my computer forced me to reinstall windows.
I've just ran a full system restore on my niece's Dell Inspiron N5030 which runs Windows 7. After the restore the laptop restarted and went into the setup screen... then it tells me it's unable to continue the setup whilst in safe mode and asks me to restart...thus the loop continues.how to start in normal mode and continue the setup?I've tried going to the black boot screen which has a variety of options including "Start Windows Normally" but none of these worked.

I used to have linux Mint 11 dual booting with Windows 7, I recently upgraded to Linux Mint 12 and from that upgrade I cannot see the windows 7 option in the boot menu.. I tried to reinstall the boot loader of windows 7 from the Windows 7 CD but when I press "Repair Your Computer" then it does not show any operating system existing on my computer... install the boot menu in the MBR again.

In my system I have three operating systems installed for me to boot into - Windows 7, XP & Ubuntu. Windows 7 is the default and probably even the most used one.The problem is that each time I boot into Windows XP, Windows 7's system restore points get wiped out totally. The same does not happen with XP though.

The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)

I reset the laptop, and upon restart it took long for everything to load, and then froze again, then i tried system restore in safe mode but just got blanc screens, also managed to open system restore on normal login but aslo still blanc screen, then i opened task manager, complete blanc screen everywhere, msconfig the same. As soon as i open browser the pc freezes, it has also given me bkue screen from time to time

View 0 Replies View RelatedToday I just used a removal tool by Symantec to remove the virus Tidserv Activity on one of my laptops. I restarted the computer and it wouldn't boot. Now I need to restore the MBR since the MBR was infected.It's a Dell laptop. I found that the laptop has System Recovery preinstalled. The instructions Symantec gave me to remove the virus says to use the Windows 7 CD-ROM to restore the MBR, which I don't have.I do however have a Windows 7 re-installation DVD, if reinstallation makes a difference.Can I use the re-installation DVD and is that safer? Or is it okay to just go to System Recovery since it's already pre-installed?My third question is after I decide which way to go about tackling this issue, how do I manually restore the MBR? I've faintly entered "fixmbr" command in the command prompt but it didn't work, basically saying it wasn't a valid command.

Upon starting the system restore to factory setting i got another BSOD. now the laptop only turns on to a black screen asking for windows 7 install cd which i do not have. can i jus get any windows 7 installation cd to reinstall.
I made a recovery disk from another laptop which allows me to go into the system recovery options. I chose the first option use recovery tools the can help fix problems starting windows. I selected window 7 and then a window came up saying "add drivers". it says insert the installation media for the device and click okay to select the drivers. However I am starting from a recovery disk and I'm not sure where to find the drivers it is asking for.

I have a gateway laptop m-6881 w/ vista 32bit HP sp2. (8/2008)
I also have a gateway tower S500 XP Pro 32bit SP3 ( 3/2003)
The laptop has 3 restore DVD's with the OS on it (sp1) - also other programs and drivers.
The tower has 4 restore CD's with the OS on it - including 2driver cd's, 2programs cd's.
Can I use the restore CD from the XP or/and vista machine on my Windows 7 machine as a dual boot as long as I wipe the HDD of the XP machine and toss it? ( since all are gateways )
I no longer want to use my XP,win2000 or win98 rigs anymore.
I'm going to wipe the HDD and give them away.
This may not make sense but I can't get my fingers to type what I'm trying to say

Earlier this evening I downloaded My Colors and put it on my computer. For some reason it wouldn't load up all the icons and was messing up my browser when I would go online. I did a system restore back to a previous date. Now I am in a huge mess. It will not boot up fully. I get a window with an easy access button in the lower left corner and a shut down button in the lower right corner and that is it. I don't want to do a full restore. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It is running Windows 7. I'm not sure what more information you need or that I can really get to you at this time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got the smart hdd virus last night, I tried to install malwarebytes but it was blocked by the virus, so I did a system restore from safe mode to 5 days ago. When the restore finished, it booted and said that the restore had not fully worked, but it appeared to have had, with all my files visible again, same with my programs. I then installed malwarebytes and restarted. In the middle of booting windows, it bsod'ed, I did not catch the error message. It does this when I try to boot every time. When it goes into system repair, this message:Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may have caused the problem. To fix this:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2. Choose your language settings, then click next.
3. Click repair your computer.

Just since yesterday my laptop was attacked by some kind of malware that tries to scare me into buying their products and hiding all my files. I managed to unhide all my files but somehow the virus still remains. I tried every solution on the web to get rid of this virus but to no avail **** does not work at all.And to top it all this particular virus shuts down all my usb ports and disabling me to connect to another computer to share files even. So I decided to reformat my laptop. But the thing is when after I clicked system restore, the thing shut down. Ok fine everything was normal and it started up as usual, but the next thing that happened was that it was stuck on a black screen. I thought the program was processing but I was wrong ( I've never reformatted a computer so please bare with my sillyness ) I've tried many many times by shutting down and trying to click on system restore but still same result, stuck on a black screen. And pressing F11 doesn't really help either, it will still result in a black screen. I've tried to use the system recovery disc but it didn't work at all.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7. Earlier, my computer was acting funny after trying to open some videos from my camera that I had connected. I retarted hoping it would act normal. I got the opposite. Every time I try to start up, it goes to a black screen after I put in my password. I will not let me open task manager or anything. I see a cursor that I can move around, but just a black screen. I've tried to google the problem (I am currently in safe mode) and tons of people said to do a system restore. Problem is, it says I haven't created any restore points and to open up system protection.
Here lies ANOTHER problem in my awesome string of luck. When I click on it, the system protection tab is not there. It's completely missing. I tried going to start, right clicking computer and going to properties. Guess what? It's not there either like it should be.
At first it started with me downloading Cataclyst Control Center to update my graphics card wich is a X-fire ATI 5000 series. There apeared a black border around my screen of around 1 inch, but wherever I chekked the resolution showed it was my native 1920x1080, while still showing the black border.I tried de-installing CCC at that point but it didn't work, I also tried a system restore, but that didn't work either. I formatted my pc to factory defaults at that point.After a month I started using the pc again, and when playing Battlefield 3 I got an error that my graphocs card was failing or something. So this time I went to the device manager and tired updating it there, but it automaticly installed CCC again and my resolution got screwed again.I found a solution from: [Solved] 4870 not displaying 1920x1080 on Acer H233H - ATI - Graphic-Displays."I just went through this myself with an Acer P235H. The problem has nothing to do with Acer, and everything to do with ATI. You see, ATI assumes that you'll use your HDMI cable to hook up to a TV. Since most TVs are configured with overscan (i.e. the edges of the broadcasted image don't appear), ATI aggressively defaults to shrinking the image by 15% when using HDMI to ensure that the entire desktop will be visible.
The solution is to install the ATI Catalyst Control Center, available from their website. There's a section called something like "desktops & displays." On the bottom of that tab will be an area with a small icon of a monitor. Right click on that and select "Configure..." One of the tabs that shows up has a slider for display scaling. Move the slider to 0%, and voila! It was for my wife's computer. I had already promised to reduce the cable clutter by having a single thin cable for both audio and video, so not getting HDMI working would have entailed a serious loss of face."So I tried looking in the CCC, but found no such option, and then went to the website to update CCC. I got the latest version, and again found no such option. I chose to do a system restore and never again try to update my drivers for the sake of having a normal screen.When the restore was finished it automaticly restarted my pc, and I got to the password screen (with normal resolution now) and typed in my password, after that I got a blackish screen with only my mouse on it, wich I could still move.I restared my pc again then and this time I didnt even get to the password screen, it just straight out went to the blackish screen with my mouse on it after the welcome screen.
