I got the smart hdd virus last night, I tried to install malwarebytes but it was blocked by the virus, so I did a system restore from safe mode to 5 days ago. When the restore finished, it booted and said that the restore had not fully worked, but it appeared to have had, with all my files visible again, same with my programs. I then installed malwarebytes and restarted. In the middle of booting windows, it bsod'ed, I did not catch the error message. It does this when I try to boot every time. When it goes into system repair, this message:Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may have caused the problem. To fix this:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2. Choose your language settings, then click next.
3. Click repair your computer.
If you do not have this disc, please contact your system admin or manufacturer for assistance.Status: 0xc000000e Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessable.I do not have a Win 7 home premium disc, only a win7 pro disc. I am able to make a clean install if required with the pro disc.Will this work with the windows 7 professional disc?
Did a system restore in Windows 7 and my dual boot system (Windows 7&XP) won't boot. It's looking for a boot device. When I put in a Hiren boot 10.6 disk, the dual boot option is one of a number of alternatives, and it allows me to get into my pc. How can I get back to having the system work like it did before? So it boots to the dual boot option without Hiren.My SSD drive is the main drive for Windows 7 &XP. It has two partitions.
I have been getting BSOD on my laptop for over a month now. It only ever happens upon waking up from sleep, never when starting it up. I've tried to used System Restore but I don't have any restore points that go far back enough. I have tried resetting to factory settings but the same problem has happened again, not sure if it's the same incident because I'd have thought a reset would have solved it, so likewise I'm not sure another reset will change anything. I've done scans with multiple anti-viruses (obviously no two at the same time), and I apparently I don't have a virus. I thought it might have something to do with the registry so I scanned for problems in the registry in both CCleaner, but despite what it tells me, nothing has changed. I also did scans with AVG PC Tune-Up which didn't do anything, either. I was considering booting from an OS disk but I only want to do that as a last resort, and if it's going to work.
Aside from BSOD, other problems include the Flash container plugin crashing midway though Flash videos (which can't be down to Flash player, because I have the latest version), playback lagging in Media Player Classic Home Cinema, even though I have the CCCP codec pack installed, and lastly when playing games, sometimes the .exe will crash or the game will jitter, even offline games, even on low graphic settings, even with the latest graphic card drivers installed.
I had a few BSOD's and was going to do a system restore as I could not even get to post the dmp files up here coz the pc kept restarting with BSOD.
Upon starting the system restore to factory setting i got another BSOD. now the laptop only turns on to a black screen asking for windows 7 install cd which i do not have. can i jus get any windows 7 installation cd to reinstall.
I have an older PC (AMD Athlon II x4 630 Processor) running Windows 7 Home Prem - 64 bit. I noticed about a week ago my mouse was acting up (figured it was a bad mouse and didn't think much about it), soon afterwards I started getting that blue screen of death and it would shut down. My current virus protections is AVG, which I ran. I then ran Malewarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot in both regular and safe mode. They seem to find a few things but nothing that really looked serious. I tried System Restore but got an error statement that it wasn't functioning correctly because of some type of Volume Shadow component problem (which I researched and turned back on to no avail).
Other symptoms are when I try going to control panel or even the microsoft update page they open but are minimized - when I try to open them larger they almost look like they open and go to the far right of my screen out of site. The reason I think it is a virus is that in safe mode the control panels opens right up - but still cant get to microsoft update page. This problem seems to be getting worse the last couple of days. What is weird I really don't notice much else wrong with pc. I can still go online without a problem, home page hasn't changed any and haven't noticed pc slowing down at all.
Earlier this evening I downloaded My Colors and put it on my computer. For some reason it wouldn't load up all the icons and was messing up my browser when I would go online. I did a system restore back to a previous date. Now I am in a huge mess. It will not boot up fully. I get a window with an easy access button in the lower left corner and a shut down button in the lower right corner and that is it. I don't want to do a full restore. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It is running Windows 7. I'm not sure what more information you need or that I can really get to you at this time.

The computer boots no problem normally, it is only when restarting to restore the system image.
I've just ran a full system restore on my niece's Dell Inspiron N5030 which runs Windows 7. After the restore the laptop restarted and went into the setup screen... then it tells me it's unable to continue the setup whilst in safe mode and asks me to restart...thus the loop continues.how to start in normal mode and continue the setup?I've tried going to the black boot screen which has a variety of options including "Start Windows Normally" but none of these worked.
I used to have Windows 7 which works flawlessly... I used to have linux Mint 11 dual booting with Windows 7, I recently upgraded to Linux Mint 12 and from that upgrade I cannot see the windows 7 option in the boot menu.. I tried to reinstall the boot loader of windows 7 from the Windows 7 CD but when I press "Repair Your Computer" then it does not show any operating system existing on my computer... install the boot menu in the MBR again.
After a power outage, my windows 7 will not boot without going into safe mode.How can I restore my system to boot automatically without going into safe mode.
All discussion will pertain to Windows 7 Backup w/ NTFS disks w/ample space. Period. It shouldn't matter if the disks are simple or dynamic. The simple situation is this: I have one simple NTFS boot disk that failed months after system image backups to my other internal HDD. So then I replace this boot disk w/ a new one. So Am I able to restore the system image from the HDD onto to the new boot disk?
My Sony vaio just turned off last week and wont boot up. It turns on an flashes Sony vaio but that's all. I made a recovery disk and I can get into bios so I tried booting from internal disk and tried startup repair got nothing, tried system restore for every restore point and none will finish. Took each piece of ram out an tried starting it up to see if bad ram was the problem and it starts the same way. I also tried the restore from previous image but I have no image. A few days ago, I went to turn on my computer and it just gave me a black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I attempted to use System Repair, which failed. It said there was an unspecified error possibly caused by a change in system configuration. I have not changed anything on my computer, for the record, between the last time it worked and now. My husband said it downloaded updates, which would explain why it was off in the first place instead of just being on stand-by. Anyway, I then tried System Restore, which also failed. I can get it to start in Safe Mode with Networking, but it seems that everything I try to run to figure out what the problem is, is saying it can't find the problem. In my system I have three operating systems installed for me to boot into - Windows 7, XP & Ubuntu. Windows 7 is the default and probably even the most used one.The problem is that each time I boot into Windows XP, Windows 7's system restore points get wiped out totally. The same does not happen with XP though.

Does anyone know how to schedule/automate a rollback to a system restore point at a set time each day?What i'm trying to do is:1. Disable the standard system restore behavior for creating restore points when installing apps and drivers.2. Automatically/schedule a restore point to be created every morning. (probably using Task Scheduler)3. Automatically/schedule a rollback to that morning restore point every night.This should allow users to mess up the workstation during the day, and restore a working rollback point at night when users are not using a workstation.Updates are scheduled at nighttime, so before that happens, it should rollback to a good restore point, apply updates, then create a working "new" restore point with the updates in the morning....etc.
I have recently installed windows ultimate x64 on my computer.i have an asus p6t deluxe v2 mobo, i7-960 cpu and a wd velociraptor hdd. The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)
my desktop computer won't boot. When I turn it on it displays the welcome splash screen and then goes black. A message will then display that says CMD failed to start and then it will shut down. It does the same thing in safe mode as well.My question is. I have already set up the HD from the desktop as an external to my laptop so I could get files off it. Is there any way to do system restore on the hard drive when it is set as an external? Because I did this last night and I think if I restore the drive it will fix it.
My Windows 7 64 bit machine will not boot. It keeps going into Windows System recovery mode. I have tried that multiple times and rebooted each time but no luck.System specs - Windows 7 64 bit, 16gb ram. Core i7-920 with 12 gb ram. This is an OEM disc that I bought from comp store, all parts and OS are less than three years old. C: drive - windows install a few apps, Drive 1 - games and music,
1) tried looking up this error with instructions. online instructions have had me go into the command prompt to perform edits on the c: windowsSystem32 folder. These do not come up in my prompt on my c: drive - where windows in installed. See program files etc, but no Windows32 folder. 2) already have run the c: chkdsk /r to try and fix the disc. It went through everything and comes back saying there are no problems. Still cannot boot to windows either get BSOD mentioned above or recovery mode. 3) Cannot go to previous restored state (one of the choices ) as it states that I have no restore points although I know that I have established at least 2 in the last 2-3 months 4) Tried inserting the Windows 7 disc and running repair from there but it just takes me to the same Windows system recovery mode which still does not work. 5) I tried hitting F8 during boot to go into safe mode but no good. it only takes me to a screen which gives me the option for boot order. 6) run the memory test from recovery console - no problems.
I have read the BSOD thread but everything there seems to assume that you can already boot into Windows at sometime and download the exe to run. (I cannot get into windows at all)Does anyone have any suggestions? I built this one myself (4th build) and have never in the 10 years of using Windows had a problem which I could not get into at least safe mode.I can go to maybe until this weekend but need to use my computer by Saturday cob.If I have had no luck at that point i will have to reinstall windows (it is on its own harddrive with most all of my applications on separate drives. So that may be a small blessing.I have had no strange occurrences while using the computer which is on pretty much 24/7.Is this what happens when a harddrive crashes? i just save my project and then after a few minutes i got BSOD i read "ntfs.sys" then i restart my computer and then my system won't boot, displaying in monitor is no cable connceted, but when i check it's ok.

I have been having some troubles with this computer since day of purchase. The first BSOD I had was posted and resolved here: BSOD during battlefield 3. Previously, my computer would BSOD during game activity, such as battlefield 3. Elmer identified the probable cause being Avira, and sure enough when I attempted to delete it the computer BSOD; I managed to delete it in safemode and have had no BSOD's during game sessions ever since. However, lately I have encountered random BSOD's during Windows update and System start up (Just before the windows logo screen) of the same error code; I have posted the DMP file and CPUz screenshots. I think it is also worth mentioning that in games I have noticed stuttering no matter what graphical settings I set it to.I am having difficulty tracking down the Hardware responsible for this BSOD; I have run memtest overnight and it passed without fault. Could the 60gb Force 3 SSD be responsible? Or the RAM?
I have a new Toshiba Qosmio X770 laptop with Dual 120 Gb SSD drives. From the factory it had Win 7 Home. I upgraded immediately to Win 7 Ultimate x64. I set up the VM to use XP (Have to use XP because current dev projects with work are stuck in old ages on XP for the time being). I can run the XP Mode in VM fine and even Visual Studios functions fine. There is a problem with the 3rd party drivers for the USB comm boards we are using, the USB drivers apparently cannot be shared across the VM environment for the particular ones we are using.
It all started when I realized I downloaded the 32 bit operating system on my desktop. Now however, I got a BSOD when I inserted the CD into the desktop. People around the internet said that you must go ahead and format the drive, So, I went ahead and did that. Thus deleting the operating system in the process. Now, When I try downloading the operating system, I get this message:Boot MGR is missing. restart the computer.I have tried everything. Using my laptop to make a USB Drive to boot it up. I cannot do that because my laptop is a 32 bit operating system, and I want a 64 bit.Please, The motherboard is a M5A 78L-M LX Plus with an AMD chipset. The monitors work fine and everything works until the boot MGR Pops up. I am puzzled because while working on computers in school, this only popped up when the operating system was on the harddrive. However, I cannot do anything at all.
So I cleaned my registry using RegSeaker and now my computer BSODs at the 'starting windows' screen, even if I try to start in safe mode. I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. However, when I try to update the registry with it I get an error message saying 'cannot import.
OK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.
I am trying to restore my computer because it launches into system recovery. After I get to the recovery options I tried to do system restore but it tells me there isn't enough space on the disk.
I have tried a lot of things and I can't get system restore to work. I don't need to use it but I would like my computer to be working since there is no reason for this not to work. I just keep getting ComPlusStaging failed to obtain original copy from %systemroot%/registration all the time.
I have been have some problems with my HP dv 8500 laptop. It has vista on it. I could not get any windows updates. So I backed up my files to a flashdrive and did a system recovery. I have files on the flash drive but cannot transfer them back to the laptop. I would love it if someone could guide me through the process.
My Windows 7 System Restore doesn't restore. It allows me to set them and tells me they've been done. But on the couple of occasions when I've wanted to use one, no joy. Yes I know I could possibly do it in 'Safe Mode' but that isn't an answer as to why I can't do it in regular mode?
