Restore Windows.old On New Windows 7 Install As Repair Failed

I installed a new MOBO last night (17/02/2012) and booted up and my Windows 7 could not boot. It went into repair mode and could not repair.
So I installed a new Windows 7 and now see the Windows.old folder. I would like to recover the huge amount of settings and personalisation from the old Windows system.
I have not communicated with anyone who has REALLY had a Windows recovery ever work.
If anyone knows, this is the perfect time for me to be shown the light.
I was being an idiot and messed with Msconfig memory. Restarted and gave me bsod. After that I ran Startup repair system restore failed.I checked the memory box I think it was 0, not sure. if you need additional information let me know.
A few days ago, I went to turn on my computer and it just gave me a black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I attempted to use System Repair, which failed. It said there was an unspecified error possibly caused by a change in system configuration. I have not changed anything on my computer, for the record, between the last time it worked and now. My husband said it downloaded updates, which would explain why it was off in the first place instead of just being on stand-by. Anyway, I then tried System Restore, which also failed. I can get it to start in Safe Mode with Networking, but it seems that everything I try to run to figure out what the problem is, is saying it can't find the problem. Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." been searching all over the internet on an alterative machine for a solution to a problem that occurred about an hour ago.To offer background on the machine:I upgraded it last summer with a 60gb Solid State HD to host the OS and a 700gb HD to host the bulk non-system essential files and appsI've had no anti-virus on it but occasionally run the Microsoft free Scan & Repair along with Iobits cleanup suiteThere's been this Win7.CH Trojan Horse that is occasionally detected for the past 6 months and even though I select to fix and repair, it always comes backThe machine will occasionally crash after exiting a high performance application like a videogameAfter installing the Planetside2 videogame Beta on the 700gb drive, my SS drive began to become strangely over-stuffed with files, and I could not narrow down where they originated. I uninstalled a few unessential Iobit programs and cleared my downloads and recycle bin, then something even stranger happened. The SS drive had 16gb free, while this entire time I've had it I've only managed to keep it about 2-4gb free, and the file clogging stopped from what I could tell.Anyway, a week or so later, after exiting the Planetside2 Beta application earlier the machine crashed (unsurprisingly) but upon startup, did not recover.

I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.
My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.
I have tried a lot of things and I can't get system restore to work. I don't need to use it but I would like my computer to be working since there is no reason for this not to work. I just keep getting ComPlusStaging failed to obtain original copy from %systemroot%/registration all the time.
My computer shut down unexpectedly and when I tried to start it back up it wants to perform a launch repair which fails for some reason. I have tried system restore and keep getting the following error: system restore failed to replace the fileD:\ProgramData\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\temp\wlidui_WLIDSVC\BUTTON.J I am not sure if this is some kind of virus and how to remove it. I also cannot start up in safe mode or at the command prompt. Nothing has been working.
Problem: This morning I had a brief 1 second power outage while I was using my computer which forced it to shutdown. It just stood there shutting down for about 15 minutes when i decided to click force shutdown. After restarting, computer ran checkdisk and startuip repair because windows was not loading.
Issues; I ran chkdsk a couple times, lots of bad sectors./index files repairing recovering, but it ends up hanging at stage 4 at a certain spot. I left it running at that spot for over 5 hours and just stood there(I went to sleep and woke up at same spot). I booted with windows 7 cd and tried startup repair, the first 3 times it said it couldnt repair. It only showed 2 restore points available and both gave error messages saying they couldnt load. I ran a checkdsk /r again and was fixing a lot of stuff and hung at same spot again. Tried another startup repair, this time it said it worked but still the same problem, windows isnt loading. However, I am able to get to the login screen now after waiting about 10 minutes at the windows logo however my kieyboard/mouse functionaility seems to be gone so i cant even type my password to login at that point. I ran a diagnostic in the boot menu, when checking the harddrive it gave me an error. Ive tried booting to every option available, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt etc, nothing works. It brings me to logon screen after a long time but keyboard./mouse dont work at that point. Now, like i said i dont want to reformat my computer and lose all my files. My keyboard/mouse work with the windows 7 bootup cd doing those menus but not when it gets to logon screen booting the normal way. I was thinking of buying an external drive and installing windows on there and booting from there but im not sure if my computer would recognize it since it wont recognize my keyboard and mouse at login screen.
I think I must have lost Windows Installer using Revo uUninstaller and messed up the registry somehow. I'm a bit afraid to use the Win 7 repair disk 32 bit I created; I might mess things up further. I've tried to download a 32 bit installer update to no avail; it says it's not compatible with my version of Windows (Professional, SP1). Anyhow, does the Win 7 repair disk have a fix for the lost Win 7 installer? If so, I might give it a try if you can provide some guidance in doing so. I have everything backed up in Carbonite, Seagate external drive, Acronis True Image, memory sticks, etc.
I have an Acer Aspire AS5251 laptop. I was in "Backup & Restore", running Backup. I went to bed after inserting the sixth backup disk. I woke up this morning and I had to login. So, after that, I noticed a popup window with a message saying that my windows update had occured overnight and my computer had restarted.There was also a Windows Backup Error Window indicating that my backup did not complete successfully.Question is, how do I get the backup to continue and not have to start from scratch
I have 3 corrupt installations of the same OS (Windows 7 U. 64 bit) in the same hard drive. I can't install any OS(es), and my original (working installation) no longer works. These corrupt installations are corrupt because windows installed incorrectly twice they left old windows instead of creating a windows.old file.When I try to start up any of these three installations, I get the same error: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."This also happens upon completion of reinstalling windows.I have tried to wipe the drive:most programs I see need windows to operate...I've tried a few programs that can be booted, DBAN boots, but I get the same error every time: That DBAN has encountered a non-fatal error and that the error is usually caused by damaged disks.
I have recently installed windows ultimate x64 on my computer.i have an asus p6t deluxe v2 mobo, i7-960 cpu and a wd velociraptor hdd. The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)
Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.
Per microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.
Have an Advent laptop here, BSODing when booting with the error message above.Cannot run in safe mode and any start up repair attempts have failed.I have run disk checks both in the Windows start up tool and in Linux and they both say no problems but when I try a system restore it says there is one. Here is the .dmp file and the laptops specs.I also ran sfc /scannow but everytime I do I get a message saying there is a repari waiting for me to restart the laptop and that's all I ever get.[code]
Basically the issue is that my computer won't boot. I have had it for just over a year and have never had any issues with it. It's protected and isn't used for anything dodgy, my brother uses it for SWTOR and I use it mostly for uni work and a bit of gaming here and there. Anyway out of nowhere it failed to start. Its done this once before and last time I just told it start Windows normally and everything was fine. This time not so much.
It loads up Startup Repair even if I select start Windows normally as it fails to do so and restarts itself automatically. I left it to detect errors but when I checked it a few hours later it still said searching so I cancelled and left it. I tried again yesterday and have left it on for approximately 25 hours to no avail, it still says searching! I have a lot of stuff I haven't backed up so I want to save it. Also note that there are no pieces of hardware plugged into the machine at all, only the mouse, keyboard and monitor.

I've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:

I recently saved over my Fallout 1 savegame and I want the old one back, I tried system restore but it failed due to an unspecified error, hinting to turn my antivirus off - which didn't work. I just want to old save file back, is there a program that can do that?
My DVD drive disappeared so I want to do a system restore to get it back, but it fails and Windows tells me that it could not access a file. I have Zone Alarm and Malwarebytes, and I turned them both off, but it still fails.If there is no quick fix for this I would at least like to lock in my system restore snapshot so it doesn't get overwritten by a new one.
I would rather not have to do a fresh install of Windows just to successfully apply the SP1 update, but here is a summary of what I've tried to do thus far:
I am currently using windows 7 ultimate x64. I was in the middle of a process restoring my computer to a few days back and suddenly it froze. I did a power shut down and when I turned it back on, I wasn't able to get back into windows. I was brought to startup repair and it gave me errors. 'Boot manager failed to find OS loader'. There was options for restoring, but all my restore points were gone. Recovery wasn't able to find image backup.
"Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically". I was told to go into safe mode to restore, but whenever I enter safe mode, startup repair would take over and shows the same errors, also I read a tutorial using a repair disc ( made a copy of it on someone elses ultimate x64 computer) and I get the 0x00000e9 error if i boot from disc. What can I do? As of now I don't have the installation disc with me. I wont be able to get hold of it until tomorrow. There's a lot of important files in that hard drive and I really cant lose any.

I have a HP pavilion p6823 and one day it wouldnt go past the blue hp screen that has the setup and BIOS options. Well I used a system repair disk and it told me i needed system image disks so I put the last disk in like it said, and now it is giving me this message.Error details: Windows did not find any fixed disk that can be used to recreate volumes present in backup. Ensure disks are online, and disk drivers are installed to access the disk(s). 'diskpart.exe' tool with list disks command can be used to see the list of available fixed disks on the system.
have a Packard Bell Ixtreme M5722 thats running windows 7 64 bit home premium I was advised by packard bell to do a factory restore which failed half way through with error code 1392 file system currupt. Ever since then i've been unable to start up windows. I have used a Windows 7 recovery cd that lets me into command prompt but when i run sfc /scannow it just says "there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete" Obviously I can't reboot as it won't let me into windows at all. my Windows 7 64-bit computer acted oddly (after it accidentally got unplugged while on, tho not sure that's what did it). now when i boot i get as far as the windows 7 logo starts to show, then i get that it can't boot.
i changed nothing that i know of. repair says it can't. restore, which only lists points from 3 days ago, doesn't work. i did a memory test. it was fine. am i doomed to do a clean re-install of Windows 7?
btw, if i get that Windows 7 logo, and also a stage where it says it is loading files, that means it is reading from my hard drive, right?
