View 7 RepliesI recently purchased a new hard drive, and to this point have been utilizing Macrium only for backup images.
What I'm trying to do is copy a working image of my old hard drive including the OS Xp, to the new hard drive, but the pc won't boot with the copy installed on the new hard drive!
just installed free macrium Windows 7 64 bit backup. created image bu on external hd. created both pe and linux recovery cds. inserted cd, shut down system; turned on system, no boot from either cd; windows came up normally.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI notice that Macrium has a lot of updates. Should I make a new disc and a new image with each update. I try to read the contents of the update but it is difficult to understand at times. I image occasionally and keep sensitive data on removable media.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed an Intel 330 120G SSD in my netbook. Macrium Reflect worked brilliantly to clone and resize the partiions to fit from a larger 250G hard drive to the new 120G SSD.After swapping in the new SSD, I wanted to make an image of the completed install but Reflect balked for the C: drive with an "MFT error" and a suggestion to run ChkDsk.I did as instructed and ChkDsk returned a bunch of errors but I suspect they are not really errors but rather unexpected results from an SSD. There were about ten of these...CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)... 0 percent complete. (0 of 151808 file records processed)Attribute record (128, "") from file record segment 1536 is corrupt.

Ithe new drive is showing up in there OK, but when I check up in Start > Computer, it's not showing up in there.Anyone any idea what it all means and simple step-by-step instruction of how to get around it. View 2 Replies View Relatedmy son set up a backup strategy. He has a Seagate GoFlex 2TB network drive that he planned to do backup with. It comes with software to backup files and folders, but not the system image. He has Windows 7 home which apparently can't do backup to a network drive. I see Macrium is recommended here. Can the free version backup and recover a system image to a network drive?

Pressing F11 while booting does not boot into Recovery Manager anymore like it previously did, instead it went straight into booting windows... and i tried to access the folders inside the recovery partition, it says that the files are corrupted and unreadable.

He is running Win 7 Pro 64bit and I have made the Macrium rescue CD which finds the images and reports a successful operation. Created an image of my C drive and System Reserved with Macrium. I want to change my partitions prior to restoring my image. Is the easiest to just use my Windows 7 disk?Have a 500GB hard drive on my laptop and want to change the partition sizes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I have two Sony Vaio laptops. My old one has an 80 GB hard drive partitioned as a C and D drive and has Windows XP. My new one has a 320 GB hard drive in one partition C running Windows 7 64 bit. I have several backups on a Freecom 320 GB external hard drive created with Macrium Reflect free edition.
The latest back-up I have on the Freecom is the complete contents of my new computer ammounting to about 72 GB.
Would it be possible for me to copy what is on the Freecom to my old computer in order to create a clone of my new computer? I basically want to have this as a backup in case the new laptop croaks. If this is possible would I have to prepare the old drive in any way such as wiping it clean or re-partitioning it or would the stuff on the Freecom do that as it copied?
I recently built a pc and all is well. Clean install of Windows 7 HP 64. For the first couple of days I was in and out of the system as the default admin (user you are asked to create during Windows 7 install). It wad during this time I installed macrium reflect free 5. I images the system after getting all the drivers in and then set up a scheduled backup for 7am each day. Worked fine.
Now I have created a normal user for me without admin privilege (for security reasons) which will be my day to day login. However this morning macrium failed to run the scheduled image. I was logged in as me, the low lvl user, not admin. The log file had an error about being unable to access adminxml file
I'm guessing this is because I installed macrium whilst an admin? Additionally I created the xml file whilst admin and then turned it into a schedlue whilst admin. However the xml and schedule are both set to run as admin with the admin password typed in.
Macrium is available to me as a normal user but when I launch it I'm asked for the admin password. Just trying to give as much info as poss.
I just noticed that the default location for the xml files it creates with each image is on my C:.... My Documents/Reflect.I always just let it choose until I came to the image, which is on an external drive.Should these be on my external drive, and can I move them safely so they will be recognized, in case my C: fails? In other words, can I move them and Macrium will find them? Do I have to do a step after I move them
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know both programs have been discussed before but what are the pros and cons of both Macrium and the latest version of Acronis (2011)? or are they pretty equal? I don't mind spending a few bucks on Acronis especially since I still got gift cards form Xmas Acronis looks like it has a "prettier" UI and really I would prefer to have purchase a disk rather that a download but that's not a deal breaker. I was also looking a Norton Ghost 15 but have read some really bad reviews.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis morning I powered up my PC and got this error, 1234F:
Tried pressing 1 and nothing happened. Restarted and tried to get into the BIOS by pressing DEL, but the BIOS wouldn't load. Opened up the computer and unplugged all my hard drives and unneeded USB devices. Got into the BIOS fine after that. Powered down and reconnected the boot drive and everything booted up fine. Ran a quick test on the hard rive using the Seagate Seatools utility and it passed. Reconnected the other drives and again, everything checked out fine. I hope to run longer tests on my drives later this morning just to make sure.
I did have a Ubuntu live usb stick plugged in, but I have this plugged in often and have never had a problem. Tried recreating the problem by reconnecting everything and restarting but everything booted up fine.
The only things I have done to the PC is swap out two internal hard drives two days ago. I also have been having problems with my USB ports which I haven't figured out yet, this will probably be the subject of another thread!
So everything seems to be running fine now but I am a little worried about what might have caused my problem and if it is an indication of another problem? Is there anything I need to check?

boots up ok to the login screen to load the OS but there is no mouse function anymore..
Im running into a very strange situation.
Im running 7 Ultimate on a Lenovo 3000 N100 Laptop that I use for work.
Originally I had the RTM that i revieved from work (HP). Once 7 was released to the public I purchased the Ultimate anytime Upgrade to make my copy of 7 my own. Here is my issue, With the RTM installed I had no problems. But once I entered my new key I started having boot problems.
Every other boot, when I get to the login screen It seem that my graphics driver and my touchpad driver did not load and I must shut down and reboot.
when I reboot it then works fine. i have done a Fresh Install 3 times,
Downloaded updated drivers for my chipset, graphics, and touchpad. Could it be a BioS issue?
I was wondering if anybody has ever encountered this or knows how to remedy this.
Currently running Win7(64-bit) in RAID-0 on 2 WD Caviar Black's.I just purchased a SSD drive. What I want to do is load Win7 on the SSD and use that as my main drive, while also keeping my RAID drives boot-able and in tact as they are now. (Thus, a dual-boot Win7 setup)Will the BIOS allow me to select which drive to boot from upon start-up? My mobo is an ASUS Rampage II Extreme.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just have a quick comment on what not to do when running windows 7. I had just installed 7 Ultimate liked it seemed to be working fine! Then I made the dreadful mistake of compressing the hard drive. In doing so when the system tried to boot back up the system would not load received message boot manager compressed. So make a long story short I had to load my recovery disk and uncompress the hard drive. But why I have never had that issue with any other windows product until Win 7.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried turning on my computer today and it gets stuck at the "Starting Windows" logo. It just hangs there indefinitely (usually only takes a couple seconds) and doesn't load. I then tried startup repair, and that just takes me to a black screen. After that, I tried putting in my Windows 7 boot disc to do a clean install, told the BIOS to boot to CD/DVD drive. It tells me to press a key, I do. I get "Windows is loading files" and then it goes back to "Starting Windows" forever, yet again. This happened so suddenly, it was working fine just hours before this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a live CD of Ubuntu in order to install it alongside Windows 7. I began the installation, and suddenly the diagram (the one showing how much space each OS takes) stopped showing Windows. Almost immediately after, the installation kicked me back to the live CD, saying the installation failed. Still using the live CD, I saw that Ubuntu had not finished, but the little it did install was simply lingering on my drive. For some reason - probably sheer shock coupled with sleep deprivation - I didn't check to see if anything remained of Windows 7 before I shut down the computer. I then removed the live CD and booted the computer up.
After POST, I'm greeted by a screen that looks like the command prompt, but I am unable to input any commands. I first tried to access the recovery partition by pressing F9 at startup (which used to work), but it simply cuts to the aforementioned black screen. I also tried using various emergency boot discs, but none of them worked; some weren't recognized/loaded, and others partially loaded before displaying an error message. Since then, I have yet to get it to boot to a disc without an error occurring. I am going to contact ASUS and have (a) recovery disc(s) sent, but I doubt they'll do any good; I can't get the computer to load discs, and that's not even mentioning my likely-gone recovery partition. I'm also concerned that my HDD is irreparably damaged.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI am the proud owner of a Windows 7 Ultimate comp with 6gb ram, i7 920, etc... I have had this comp for about 1.5 years, and it has been slowing down... The bootup time has slowly been increasing, and the amount of time for me to actually be able to use programs once I see the desktop has increased. I have disabled all but the completely necessary startup programs/services, but this does not seem to work.
Whenever I start up my computer, sometimes I open task manager and check out the performance window and every time my computer is slow, I see the hard faults skyrocket. At startup, the thing is over the max shown on the graph for a while. To my knowledge, the hard faults/sec represent that the computer is either writing to or reading from the page file.
Anyway, down to the real question: Would disabling the page file decrease startup times, by forcing the computer to write everything to the ram, instead of tying up the already-slow hdd by writing/reading the page file?
Every time I boot up I get an error message that says, 'failed to load branding configuration'...what can I do
