Computer Will Not Boot, Asks For Installation Disk. Repair Doesn't Load
Jan 2, 2013
Today I booted up my computer and got a screen saying something went seriously wrong with my computer and that I should repair it from an installation disk. I load up windows onto a USB, boot it and click the repair option. It's been about half an hour and nothing has shown up. Is it still loading or perhaps something is very wrong with my PC?

I tried turning on my computer today and it gets stuck at the "Starting Windows" logo. It just hangs there indefinitely (usually only takes a couple seconds) and doesn't load. I then tried startup repair, and that just takes me to a black screen. After that, I tried putting in my Windows 7 boot disc to do a clean install, told the BIOS to boot to CD/DVD drive. It tells me to press a key, I do. I get "Windows is loading files" and then it goes back to "Starting Windows" forever, yet again. This happened so suddenly, it was working fine just hours before this.

We just acquired a new laptop with Win7 HP preloaded. One of the first things I did was try to make a System Repair CD (Start/All Programs/Maintenance/Create a System Repair Disc). The CD burning process seemed to go normally. When I tried to run the disc, it seemed to load normally until it got to a screen with the "streaks in the sky" wallpaper and then it stopped. There were no menus, messages, or anything except the wallpaper. I made two discs using a name brand with the same result. I know disc quality used to be an issue but I didn't think this was so these days among the name brands.

Went into the Windows 7 control panel to make a 'system repair disk' (boot disk), just in case I ever needed it. Making the disk went OK, with Windows 7 telling me it had successfully finished, and to label the CD.
I then put the boot CD into my DVD drive to make sure it worked OK. Computer boots from the CD and Windows 7 says it has started loading files. Then the pretty blue background screen started (just like the one in the F8 repair console), and then there was a long pause and then I get the error code shown on the photo below. Clicking OK reboots the computer, and no repair options ever load.
I made two separate boot disks to rule out a bad CD, but still get the same error #
This is a brand new Dell computer, both DVD drives work fine, and burn CDs without problems.

Trying to get windows seven to boot again. Have no installation Disk. Made a recovery disk which has not worked. Tried using super grub boot disk and it did not work. probably messed up the partition order following those instructions. Have Linux Ubuntu 12.04.1LTS installed on separate partition. Have command prompt ability, used bootrec,exe/ RebuildBcd and got total identified windows installations. I'm thinking my best bet is to purchase windows 7 and install clean.

After I got my new laptop, I installed antivirus, windows updates, etc, removed bloatware and installed the software that I actually use. Then I created my System Repair disk (single disk). Does this disk include all software and windows updates that were on my computer at the time I created the disk? I have read that System Repair disks will only have the factory settings of Windows 7, but I don't know if this is the case for all System Repair disks or only those that came with the computer and were made before the computer was purchased?I've also read that a System Repair disk could include a system image. Is this true and done by default when the System Repair disk is created?

My laptop Specs below:
Acer Aspire 5742
Intel i5-480M
6GB DDR3
Intel Graphics
It started when I needed to take the computer back to factory default with a fresh install. It was going back to Acer to have the charger point fixed (charger socket had become loose but still charged when it was held in). I used the control panel interface to reinstall windows, all was going well until the laptop power died, I restarted the laptop and the screen displayed:
"Setup is starting Services" a pop up box then appeared with "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart installation."
I have searched around the net and found a few guides but most require a repair disc or Installation disk. I have neither. Is there any way of starting the install again? For example from Command Prompt?

I've recently been having trouble with my computer. I turned it off one day, and when I tried to turn it back on the computer would never start. It would say loading windows, and it had the windows logo and everything, but then it would just stop. I tried to go through safe mode but that wouldn't load either. So I tried using my repair disks, but the repair disks won't load up either. I went into BIOS and made it so it would boot from the CD first, but... nothing. It just goes to this grey screen with that sweepy background graphic you get when you first get windows, and does nothing.I have a laptop, Windows 7 64 bit.

So I recently upgraded my motherboard, RAM, and CPU. After doing some quick adjustments in the BIOS, I attempted to load into Windows to make sure everything was correct. Upon the Windows loading up, the logo freezes for a second, a BSOD appears (which I cannot read as it disappears within a fraction of a second) and the computer restarts.I've already gone through a couple of passes using Memtest without any errors, so I think the RAM can be ruled out. I was hoping I could get advice on how to prevent the computer from restarting so I can see the BSOD and further provide information depending on the error.

I've had an ongoing war with my PC for four days now. I have Windows 7 and it refuses to start up. Originally I tried starting up normal, it gave me two choices: system repair or start as normal. If I chose normal it would show the windows logo then reset. If I chose repair it would turn black for several minutes, then go to a blue screen for several minutes and wouldn't move past that. So i tried to boot from CD. I have the option of installing windows or repair. I chose repair, once again it goes to the blue screen and nothing happens (and I've left it on this blue screen a good 15 min mind you.) Finally I submitted and decided to just re-install windows. it goes to the starting setup... and sits there indefinably.

I am experiencing a big problem in installing any operating system on my computer, it doesn't ask me to "Press any key to boot from CD" and it directly shows as it is installing the software but after completing the installation it reboots and again re-starts installation.

On the Neo Smart website, there is a link to create a emergency boot/repair disc. It's a torrent download (165MB for Win 7 64 bit), they also have the 32 bit as well as Vista 32 & 64 bit discs. It was the first time I have ever done a torrent file, so I done it on my XP laptop. And it is legal, it was said that Microsoft provided these discs. And if you have any questions about it, there is a forum as well. The website is: http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/window...-repair-disks/
The best that I could do was manually type it in, I don't know how to copy & paste or whatever it's called. I had to figure out how to do the torrent thing myself, I'm sure there are many of you who are more experienced. I did create a disc as soon as I got this PC going, but it's better to have another just in case. And I felt it would be good to share this with you all, because I've received a lot of pointers here, and if anyone gets in a jam, I hope that it's useful.

Have a netbook with Windows 7 Starter. It dualboots with Linux. My plan is to remove the Linux partition to make space on the hard disk. Obviously then the boot information, which is a GRUB, should be corrected. How can you edit this ahead of time, to allow a boot with a single entry? A netbook has no disk drive, so there is no repair disk available.

I've got a CyberPower desktop computer which has worked great for over a year now. I was having some problems with my hard drive and so I started to attempt to improve it by first doing a disk check and then disabling some programs launching when the computer starts, making sure not to touch the Microsoft ones. Now when I start my computer I'm greeted with a message from the windows boot manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" the status is "0xc000000f and the info is "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". The major problem that I'm having is that when I put in the CyberPower disc which contains Windows 7, it seems to just ignore it! What can I do?

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal. First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly. After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects.

My friend's Gateway laptop has problems and I want to install Windows again. But when I try to boot to the installation disk, after I select the DVD in the boot selection menu, I just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor. After a few minutes, one time I saw a message that said something like "bootmgr cannot be found" or is missing or something like that.
But the computer can successfully boot to a Puppy Linux boot disk.

My computer has been unable to boot to the Windows 7 installer for the past two days. My boot order is correct I have confirmed that the drive works (It runs a live CD of Ubuntu just fine). I have checked that the disk works (it boots fine in another machine). I have used this same disk on this computer before several times before with successful outcomes.
My diagnostics come back successful as well. I'm on a Dell Studio 1735 (from 2008). I'm really at a lost as to why it's not booting to the DVD. I'm currently typing this from my Ubuntu partition; I don't have convenient access to a Windows machine at this point.

This issue has just start a couple of days ago were the computer would restart at the point of the boot logo just before the orbs came in, i have tried booting in all safe modes and the computer would restart, tried repair and it restarts before finished loading. I have tried using the os install disk but it also restarts. There is no BSOD. Is there a way to fix this or would i have to replace my motherboard?

The only way I could get rid of it was totally wiping my 2TB WDigital drive SATA. Now after I used KillDisk, I boot up the Installation disk and after the 'Starting Windows' screen, it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor. Now, I know it's not the disk because I have a laptop that I was able to boot it up on and install perfectly fine. I know it's not the CD/DVD drive because I was able to boot other disks such as KillDisk with no problem. I'm not sure if there was still something I needed to do after wiping it with KillDisk to make the drive usable again. Also, I tried using another hard drive I had laying around which was a 320GB SATA. That one had some different problem booting up the Windows that was already installed on it. So.. again I used Killdisk and it does the same thing after wiping it.

I have suggested the following, all which have failed to make a difference:
bootrec.exe with /fixmbr /fixboot and /RebuildBcd
Run chkdsk
Startup repair
System Restore - two dates tried
The pc is about a month or so old, and I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, hard drive?
Two things I am going to try when I get there is a WD Diagnostics on the Hard drive, and the sfc
