I just noticed that the default location for the xml files it creates with each image is on my C:.... My Documents/Reflect.I always just let it choose until I came to the image, which is on an external drive.Should these be on my external drive, and can I move them safely so they will be recognized, in case my C: fails?In other words, can I move them and Macrium will find them? Do I have to do a step after I move them

We are a small office, 5 or 6 computers. Only 3 are every day computers, other 3 are "server", admin and extra computer. The three in use every day are new win7pro x64 machines. Our server is xp pro (32bit) with a shared drive as our "server" drive. We access this for all our job related materials, etc. There is no network setup, just shared folders among our workgroup. we just got the new win7pro machines setup and are using Windows Backup function to create system images to the "server" computer in a shared folder. We've got the images created on 2 computers, and can see the .vhd files and associated folder structure. When testing to see if we could restore from these images, we got the error "Cannot locate backup sets on machine, etc."I moved the backup folder to the root of the drive, and made sure it was WindowsImageBackup or whatever the default is, but still could not find it.

He is running Win 7 Pro 64bit and I have made the Macrium rescue CD which finds the images and reports a successful operation. However, when I try to start the new disk, it gets to the windows flags screen and goes nowhere for an hour or more.
I have used the exact same procedure with my Win 7 Pro 32bit computer and it all works fine.
I recently built a pc and all is well. Clean install of Windows 7 HP 64. For the first couple of days I was in and out of the system as the default admin (user you are asked to create during Windows 7 install). It wad during this time I installed macrium reflect free 5. I images the system after getting all the drivers in and then set up a scheduled backup for 7am each day. Worked fine.
Now I have created a normal user for me without admin privilege (for security reasons) which will be my day to day login. However this morning macrium failed to run the scheduled image. I was logged in as me, the low lvl user, not admin. The log file had an error about being unable to access adminxml file
I'm guessing this is because I installed macrium whilst an admin? Additionally I created the xml file whilst admin and then turned it into a schedlue whilst admin. However the xml and schedule are both set to run as admin with the admin password typed in.
Macrium is available to me as a normal user but when I launch it I'm asked for the admin password. Just trying to give as much info as poss.
I recently purchased a new hard drive, and to this point have been utilizing Macrium only for backup images.
What I'm trying to do is copy a working image of my old hard drive including the OS Xp, to the new hard drive, but the pc won't boot with the copy installed on the new hard drive!
I know both programs have been discussed before but what are the pros and cons of both Macrium and the latest version of Acronis (2011)? or are they pretty equal? I don't mind spending a few bucks on Acronis especially since I still got gift cards form Xmas Acronis looks like it has a "prettier" UI and really I would prefer to have purchase a disk rather that a download but that's not a deal breaker. I was also looking a Norton Ghost 15 but have read some really bad reviews.

I'm able to change the location of the regular My Documents, My Pictures, etc. to the other drive but not the Public folders. Its curious because when I open up the properties for these Public folders it shows the existing location and there is a note saying you can change the location ..., but there is not a move button nor can you change what is listed in the location text box. So how do you change the location?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI originally backed up my System & User files using the Backup utility in Tools to a slave drive. That drive was full so I purchased a larger capacity drive and installed it in place of the original slave drive.
I copied over my data but have been unable to copy the file original "Backup" file (shows "0" bytes & empty) I created.
I also had a "WindowsImageBackup" folder (160GB) that had folders and files in it that I have also not been able to copy to the new slave drive.
I am saving my old "Slave" drive so I assume I can use it to restore my original image I created, eyh?
Why does Windows 7's networking/sharing have to be infinitely more complicated than XP was? I have a computer running Windows 7 Home x64 that I call "file server". My main day-to-day machine is a laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. There are several other computers throughout the house all running WinXP Pro (32 bit). I do a lot of video processing on my laptop, and whenever a file is done processing and ready to live on the file server, I move it over there. As soon as I do this, sharing for the computer called "file server" DIES. All shares on the machine become inaccessible, and all other machines lose access. My workaround for the time being is to simply reboot the file server, which magically restores sharing. However, this is a horrible workaround since files of all types are being accessed from that machine all day long.

After installing all my basic applications I then decided to create a backup on my spare 1TB allocating 50 gig for the image. The image itself is only 35gig but when I click on create image it runs for a little while then displays the following message:
"There is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on storage location. Make sure that for all volume to be backup up, the minimum disk space required for shadow copy creation is available. this applies to both the backup storage destination and volume included in the backup. Minimum requirement for Volumes less than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 50 megabyte of free space. For volumes more than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 320 megabytes of free space. Recommended at least 1 gigabytes free of disk space on each volumes if volumes size is more than 1 gigabytes (0x80780119)". It seem like the OS does not recognise 1TB hdd
I have a desktop computer running Windows 7 64-bit. I have had it around 1 month and just today have found it keeps freezing on me. The screen literally freezes on one image and I cannot move the mouse/use the keyboard. The fans are still running inside the PC and I cannot see why this happens.

My file and storage system is set up like this:
C: Drive - 120 GB SSD This is my Win 7 64-Bit Ultimate Boot drive. It has my most important Microsoft programs on it. Out of the 111GB available, I've used 42GB, leaving me 69GB free space. I want to keep this area open.
My next drive is a 1TB WD Caviar Black segmented into 3 partitions.
E: Drive = Program FIles This has the majority and rest of my programs. It also includes USERs Files. I've use 96GB out of 150GB. Out of that 96GB, 64GB are in USERS files.
F: Drive = Data Files. This stores all of my data except for media. I've used 91GB out of 350. I want to leave this be.
G:| Drive = Medsia FIles This stores all Media = Vids, Music, Graphics, Pictures. I've used 80 GB out of 500GB
I also have a 64GB ~ 55GB actual storage SSD drive that is partitioned but has no data on it or assigned drive letter.
Here is what I want to accomplish. i want to move my actual Program FIles to the 64GB SSD, assign it a drive letter, and keep the USERS files where they now reside on the F: dirve
My main concern is that in moving all these files around and splitting the USERS files from the Program Files that I'll mees up my Registry. Will someone please suggest some links I might read that will best help me acheive these moves.
I'm trying to backup my files and create a system image on my secondary hard drive (a Caviar Black 1Tb) when windows backup shows me this message, when I prompt for more information, it says "A system image cannot be saved on a drive that your computer boots from or Windows is installed on." I checked disk management and the Caviar Black is NOT marked as a System disk, I can't find any help online and this is really pissing me off as I have no other way of creating a system image... It worked when I first put my computer together, but it's been a few weeks that I've had it and now it's giving me these messages..
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that if a folder contains a .exe file (either in its root or in a subfolder) then it is impossible to delete the folder without first navigating inside it and any subfolders that it may have and manually deleting every .exe file.This problem exists with all folders regardless of location (any drive, any folder or subfolder).I'm already using the Hidden administrative account and have disabled all User account controls etc.This has fixed most of my file deleting problems but not this .exe problem.As a side effect of this problem - many Games cannot install/patch/update because their installers cannot erase .exe files which often is required during updates/patches/installations of games. View 2 Replies View Relatedi went to shrink one of my disk partitions and was told i couldn't get more than 3gb more because there are some files in the partition that windows can't move. i've actually got about 30gb free on the partition, so this is irksome. does anyone know of an application that'll show me where files are located on the disk so i can see which files are preventing the partition from shrinkiing?

so i moved the ie temp folder to a ram disk i made (this also save some writes on my new ssd when i migrate) and i thought great job done as ie snappy. however i also see my cookies in that folder which will be gone when i reboot, not good. i have some permanent cookies which stop me needing to login to sites again and again.
so it seems i either need to keep ie temp files on permanent storage, or be willing to lose my cookies whenever i reboot. can the cookies be put in a seperate folder away from the temp cache files?
Just updated to Windows 7 and need to locate and use my WMM projects etc. on the new OS..I have copies of my old data etc which the install of W7 kept for me plus an acronis backup.

Ever since I reduced the privileges of all the user accounts on my laptop, and created an Admin account with a password for extra security, I can't move files there any more.
