Move Location Of Public Folders To Another Harddrive?

Sep 7, 2012

I have a solid state drive with limited capacity so I would like Public folders to be on another hard drive. I'm able to change the location of the regular My Documents, My Pictures, etc. to the other drive but not the Public folders. Its curious because when I open up the properties for these Public folders it shows the existing location and there is a note saying you can change the location ..., but there is not a move button nor can you change what is listed in the location text box. So how do you change the location?

How To Relocate Windows 7 Public Folders

Jan 31, 2013

I am using the method suggested in the Windows 7 Inside and Out book to relocate my user files. All seemed to be fine until I attempt to relocate the 'public music, public pictures, and others' files. The 'location' tab of properties of each public folder will not allow/accept changes to the files address.

Is there something different about the 'public' I need to be aware of?

Public Folders On Network Become Inaccessible

Jul 1, 2012

Since xp the same ol' same ol'. Why after trouble shooting and getting access to my network folders does windows ALWAYS revert back to inaccessibility? You get it working for a short time and then it goes back to not being able to transfer simple files. This has been driving me nuts for years.

Two os's Windows 7 64 to and from 32bit could transfer files for about a week.

Active Directory And Mail Enabled Public Folders?

Mar 7, 2012

I'm having an issue setting up a Mail Enabled Public Folder. I have the folder created, and anonymous are given proper access to allow incoming messages. My Exchange version is 2010 SP1, full updated, running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Whenever I send a message to the mailbox's address, I get an undeliverable:(url)...#554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn't found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory user wasn't found. ##

I know the e-mail address is typed in correctly, but I can't seem to figure out why messages aren't going through. I searched online and found some suggestions, all of which either didn't pertain to our environment, or involved patches...which I have installed.

Windows Network Location: Public Versus Home At Home?

Jun 12, 2011

I'm reimaging one of my home systems that I intend to use as a "sterile" system (I will visit very a very limited selection sites on it, such as banking sites). I'm considering establishing the network location as "Public" instead of "Home", rationale being this would help prevent cross infection from other computers on my home network if they get a worm or virus. I do have friends that come over and hop on my network sometimes and who knows what contamination their systems have. Is this being overly paranoid? Will it cause annoying problems for this sterile system or other systems in my home network? I don't intend to share anything on this system with other computers on my home network. Seems to me that this ought to be the recommended setting for any computer always ... you can always share files using a USB drive if you really need to. Thoughts? Again maybe I am being overly paranoid. Back in the day there used to be worms that would look for ways to hop from system to system over the network, maybe that's much much harder these days. I do have a router between the DSL modem and my home network and I do run Norton Internet Security on all my systems?

Can't Move WindowsImageBack Or System & User File To A New Location

Nov 11, 2011

I originally backed up my System & User files using the Backup utility in Tools to a slave drive. That drive was full so I purchased a larger capacity drive and installed it in place of the original slave drive.

I copied over my data but have been unable to copy the file original "Backup" file (shows "0" bytes & empty) I created.

I also had a "WindowsImageBackup" folder (160GB) that had folders and files in it that I have also not been able to copy to the new slave drive.

I am saving my old "Slave" drive so I assume I can use it to restore my original image I created, eyh?

Windows 7 Sharing 'breaks' When Move A File To Shared Location

Jan 15, 2013

Why does Windows 7's networking/sharing have to be infinitely more complicated than XP was? I have a computer running Windows 7 Home x64 that I call "file server". My main day-to-day machine is a laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. There are several other computers throughout the house all running WinXP Pro (32 bit). I do a lot of video processing on my laptop, and whenever a file is done processing and ready to live on the file server, I move it over there. As soon as I do this, sharing for the computer called "file server" DIES. All shares on the machine become inaccessible, and all other machines lose access. My workaround for the time being is to simply reboot the file server, which magically restores sharing. However, this is a horrible workaround since files of all types are being accessed from that machine all day long.

Moving Default Location Of Folders On A Fresh Install?

Feb 20, 2011

i got a SSD awhile back and was able to install windows on it and have my users folder and default install folder on my normal HDD. It has worked ok till now but I'm sure i screwed a few things up when i did it because random programs still try to install on my SSD and when the install makes the shortcuts, the paths for them are usually the wrong drive.I want to do a fresh install now, but i wanna do this correctly this time. how to make it so ONLY the windows folder in on the SSD and every thing else that actually takes up a lot of room on the drives goes on my larger HDD. edit: why wont it let me make separate paragraphs, it just smooshes it into a single one.

Moved / Deleted Folders Still Show Up In Original Location

Oct 12, 2010

I have a problem that just started about 2 weeks ago. I upload lots of photos to the web for my job. Once I complete a job I move each folder with the photos into it to a different folder. This keeps my active photo folder clean. About 2 weeks ago I tried to move my completed folders and I got a "folder is in use by another program" error and it would not move.

Eventually after a restart I moved it. Now I have the problem of these already moved and even deleted folders still showing up in their original location. They only show up when browsing my computer to select the files for upload. They do not show up when exploring my computer for the files. I would imaging it is some type of registry problem but I have no idea how to fix it. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Can't Move User Folders

Aug 11, 2011

I have a main folder named after the user acct (I believe it's called the User Folder???), which by default contains 13 other folders, such as My Documents, My Pictures, etc. (There are a bunch of hidden folders in there as well)I'm using some file backup software that has a plug-in to backup the entire My Documents folder. In XP, I simply moved any desired folders into My Documents for backup. What I've found in Windows 7, is these "user" folders seem to be locked in this main folder, and when moved into My Documents, the original folder magically reappears in the main user folder. So I end up with 2 identical folders. One inside My Documents, and one in the main user folder. (eg: My Music)My backup software doesn't like this at all.Is there any way to make these folders behave like regular folders that can just be moved around?

How To Move Files / Folders From PC To Say A Flash-drive

Jan 10, 2012

I just got a new laptop pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm making the jump from Windows XP to 7.I know I have to make a recovery cd. Should I do it before or after I remove a lot of unwanted bloatware that came with the new PC? How can I tell if I have service pack 1 installed? If not, where can I go to download it? Or should I? The new laptop is a HP brand desktop replacement with a 17.3 screen. My old one has a 15.4. I'm having trouble adjusting to the wider screen. Also having problems adjusting it to where I can read text clearly. I tried the true-text settings, and the dpi but the text still looks too small and fuzzy. What happened to the Move, Copy, Delete menu that appears on the left hand side in Windows XP when you highlight a file or folder? How do you move files/folders from the PC to say a flashdrive or vice versa?

If I run multiple OSes, having all the User folders in a partition by itself might eliminate duplication. If there is a thread on how to redirect the the user folders, that would be helpful. Noticed that even with Admin authority I can't move all the files in C:User.Need to mention I use just one User and give it Admin privileges, so maybe the easy way would be just set up a Drive D and put all my User data there.
