Public Folders Missing After New User Account Created?
Jul 23, 2011
Public folders are available on original administrator account. Not other accounts (standard or administrator) Originally this was vista oem. Got win7 pro update from university. Installed, activated, verified, got windows updates including SP1. Have done the drive c: - properties - tools - check now - yes - restart and they are still missing.

I created a secondary user account on my PC. When I try to login, it will look like it's logging in, but it just logs back out, returning to the main screen to choose an account to login to.If I'm logged into my main account, and I switch users and try to login to the newly created secondary account, it logs me out of my main account, and doesn't login to the secondary account, and once again, returns to the main screen to choose an account to login to.This also happens with the guest account. In addition, it does not give me the generic error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"How can I fix this?

How do I map existing User Folders to a newly created User Account?I had existing User Folders on drive D. I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. Now my existing User Folders are in the Users folder on D but there is no User Account associated with them. If I create a user account with the same name will it map to the existing folder within Users?I did a test of this. I created a folder called Test within Users then created a User account called Test and logged in. It created another folder within Users called Test.Computername.

I'm working on a computer that appears to have gone through the "Windows Recover" virus/malware. The user appeared to do a good job of removing the virus and used System Restore to dial the system back about a week (which unfortunately is the furthest back the restore points go for some reason). Everything seemed to work except for the main users account, which had it's profile locations changed to something like c:usersTEMP.username-PC.000. It was pointing to this directory instead of the original directory. I then opened up regedit and found the entries atHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerShell Folders all pointing to the wrong folder, so I manually edited every entry to point to the correct folder and restarted.
This ended up working against me. When I logged into the account none of the shell folder shortcuts in the start menu would do anything when you clicked on them. The menu would stay up and it was as if I was clicking on nothing at all; no response.Instead of reversing the edits I had just made manually I decided to try using System Restore to revert the system back to the earliest date, which the owner of the PC said they had done themselves before I got there. I figured the worst that could happen would be it would be just as it was when I first looked at it.After performing system restore I can only log into the Administrator account.Every other account on the system produced the error message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. The user profile cannot be loaded."

As much as I hate it I'm contemplating leaving XP behind. I still prefer XP but ..
Anyway the one BIG issue for me is my seeming inability to copy/modify files in user account folders ..places where I want to keep my many many years of archived emails, etc. This whole encryption thing for user settings really annoys me.

I just finished installing Windows 7 Professional x32 and had a problem with deleting the windows.old because of the permission bug. Well I managed to delete the Windows.old by editing my security and user however when I log-offed, I saw another user account that I think I've mistakenly made while editing the security in the properties of a folder in windows.old. My problem is, the delete function gone! The mistakenly made user is Administrator. When I logged in Administrator, a pop-up appeared saying that it is a temporary user account.

I was trying to get into a hidden subfolder to delete a file from a old program. It asked for admin person's. I hit Ok and it look about 10min for windows to update the folder. The problem is that after that now all my folders in my profile are gone. My music, pictures, and everything. I rebooted and loged back in but they are still all gone. How can I my profile folders back? I know there is just something I need to uncheck. I can see that all the information is still in my laptop because checking my HD space I see that nothing was deleted since I have over 50gigs of music.

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

I have a large picture library and a large music library that are on my HDD C drive. Since I can't get the relocate function to work I plan to move them to a different HDD and them connect them back to the public libraries so they can be shared with the 3 users. Is this feasible?

My father replaced his Windows 98 machine with a new computer running Windows 7.He's currently on 32-bit ultimate, but we could change versions if needed. He's really hoping there's some way to force Windows 7 into a single user mode, primarily so C:usersAll Users, Default User, Public, and his own user are merged into one. It's absolutely driving him nuts the way it is.

I am using the method suggested in the Windows 7 Inside and Out book to relocate my user files. All seemed to be fine until I attempt to relocate the 'public music, public pictures, and others' files. The 'location' tab of properties of each public folder will not allow/accept changes to the files address.
Is there something different about the 'public' I need to be aware of?

Since xp the same ol' same ol'. Why after trouble shooting and getting access to my network folders does windows ALWAYS revert back to inaccessibility? You get it working for a short time and then it goes back to not being able to transfer simple files. This has been driving me nuts for years.
Two os's Windows 7 64 to and from 32bit could transfer files for about a week.

I have a solid state drive with limited capacity so I would like Public folders to be on another hard drive. I'm able to change the location of the regular My Documents, My Pictures, etc. to the other drive but not the Public folders. Its curious because when I open up the properties for these Public folders it shows the existing location and there is a note saying you can change the location ..., but there is not a move button nor can you change what is listed in the location text box. So how do you change the location?

I'm having an issue setting up a Mail Enabled Public Folder. I have the folder created, and anonymous are given proper access to allow incoming messages. My Exchange version is 2010 SP1, full updated, running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Whenever I send a message to the mailbox's address, I get an undeliverable:(url)...#554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn't found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory user wasn't found. ##
I know the e-mail address is typed in correctly, but I can't seem to figure out why messages aren't going through. I searched online and found some suggestions, all of which either didn't pertain to our environment, or involved patches...which I have installed.

I installed Avast AV when Norton expired. In order to activate the internet security stuff, I had to install the upgraded library file, blah, blah, blah. In order to do this, I had to show hidden folders. Having only recently begun my foray into Windows 7 (coming from XP), I was flying a bit blind. I must have hit the wrong thing. After I was able to see hidden folders, install the library file to Avast and continue on with the reboot, the desktop came up wiped clean of my documents/pics, etc and my C:\Users\Susan folder has disappeared and is now called Public. Next, I thought I may have switched my user from Susan to Public, but I have not.

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

I would appreciate any help identifying the cause of extremely slow log on times for a user account on our family laptop. The machine is running Windows 7 - 64-bit version, and currently has 3 users accounts 2 admin and 1 regular. The regular account has begun to experience log on times that last for minutes (The Welcome splash screen prior to log on screen), while the admin accounts have no problems. I have seen other posts regarding slow log on times, but I haven't seen those which address the issue for a specific user account.

When I created a new user (with Admin privileges) and log into it, it will not connect to the wi-fi network. It detects the network, but will not connect.
When I try to run the Wi-Fi Configuration utility from the manufacturer its says the the Wi-Fi Adaptor is not found. When I check under the Device Manager while in that user account, the adaptor is shown as working properly.
The Network and Sharing centre shows nothing to indicate the error in either account; the troubleshooting fails to fix the problem when run.
Its all very strange and I have no idea what to do. Any clues would be most welcome.
The card is a new D-Link Wireless G DWA-510 Desktop Adaptor (PCI).

A twist on the creation of user folders on a drive other than C: in Win 7 Ultimate. Does anyone know if one could designate a user folder location such as E:Data instead of using the users name and being a subdirectory of "Users". I am the ONLY one on my computer - and it would seem much easier to look to the top folder in the E drive than clicking thru E:, users, name, documents, project. I fully realize that I can set up shortcuts, but when you are in an application that wants to place a file somewhere else and presents you with an explorer windows it is a pain. The only method I thought of is using redirection with symbolic links.

I am using both a laptop and tablet to check email I have set up both devices with imap accounts.
The issue is that I don't want to lose all my old folders and email from the old pop3 account and I can't find a way to move or copy them to the newly created account on my laptop so I'd like to leave the old account, inactive, in Outlook.
Also, I don't want to get messages into two different folders. Is there a way to disable the old pop3 account without removing it?
I have tried deleting the password so it won't send/receive from that account but all I get is the constant "enter password" box which is naturally not an ideal state of affairs.
PS it probably isn't relevant but FYI the tablet is a Motorola Xoom Android and the laptop is an Asus running Win 7 Home Premium and Outlook 2010 as in the subject line.
