Wifi Error When Using A Newly Created Admin Account
Nov 20, 2009
When I created a new user (with Admin privileges) and log into it, it will not connect to the wi-fi network. It detects the network, but will not connect.
When I try to run the Wi-Fi Configuration utility from the manufacturer its says the the Wi-Fi Adaptor is not found. When I check under the Device Manager while in that user account, the adaptor is shown as working properly.
The Network and Sharing centre shows nothing to indicate the error in either account; the troubleshooting fails to fix the problem when run.
Its all very strange and I have no idea what to do. Any clues would be most welcome.
The card is a new D-Link Wireless G DWA-510 Desktop Adaptor (PCI).

I had no problem transferring all of the other data from my old hard drive, but I cannot bring the Windows Live Mail Contacts into my new created account. I am not using a Microsoft email, but the one from my internet provider. I found the contact list on user/my name/app data/local/Microsoft/Windows Live Contacts/Guid/DBStore. I used a program called LiveContactsView, but it only shows the demographic information and no email addresses. Is there a program or another way to retrieve all of my contact list.

I'm working on a computer that appears to have gone through the "Windows Recover" virus/malware. The user appeared to do a good job of removing the virus and used System Restore to dial the system back about a week (which unfortunately is the furthest back the restore points go for some reason). Everything seemed to work except for the main users account, which had it's profile locations changed to something like c:usersTEMP.username-PC.000. It was pointing to this directory instead of the original directory. I then opened up regedit and found the entries atHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerShell Folders all pointing to the wrong folder, so I manually edited every entry to point to the correct folder and restarted.
This ended up working against me. When I logged into the account none of the shell folder shortcuts in the start menu would do anything when you clicked on them. The menu would stay up and it was as if I was clicking on nothing at all; no response.Instead of reversing the edits I had just made manually I decided to try using System Restore to revert the system back to the earliest date, which the owner of the PC said they had done themselves before I got there. I figured the worst that could happen would be it would be just as it was when I first looked at it.After performing system restore I can only log into the Administrator account.Every other account on the system produced the error message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. The user profile cannot be loaded."

seen lots of threads about this error message but not in this context so I'm thinking I might get some joy from you oracle like marvels.
A customer I saw today had a family Windows 7 PC with four user profiles on it. All worked apart from one called Hannah. When selected it started to load but then just showed "The user profile service failed to logon. user profile cannot be loaded"
the account was hardly used (Hannah is 9) so we decided to delete it and make a new one with a different name. For some reason the exact same thing happened!
Reading up on this people say to open regedit and go to HKEYLOCAL MACHINE>software>microsoft>windowsnt>currentversion>profilelist. All the profiles for the three working profiles were there but the profile for Hannah or the new profile I made wasnt present.

I have recently updated our office computers to Windows 7 Professional. Before we used Windows XP Pro that made use of roaming profiles that was stored on a Win 2003 server. Now with Windows 7 running it is creating new username.V2 folders in the roaming profile folder. Myself as administrator has no access to these newly created folders on the server, unless I take ownership of the folder. If I do this then the userprofile cannot be accessed by the user logging on at the workstation. A temporary profile is loaded and I get a message that all changes will be deleted when the user logs off. This still happens even if I give the user full permission to his folder. The only way that I have found around this is to logon as the user, so that the .V2 folder is created. Log off and log on again as the user. I then go to the network share where the roamingprofiles is stored and give the administrator full access to the folder, will I am logged on as the user. Only then can I access the folder as the administrator on the server.

I am trying to change the folder properties of a applications folder from read only. I am doing this per instructions from the apps provider to prevent crashes.
When I go to change the permissions it states I need admin privileges. The only account I have on the box is the admin however I did change the name to something besides admin. The account is definitely an admin account.

I have always been running admin and even until now I run as admin. But, I have been doing a little bit of research and realize that using a standard account is a safer practice. I have never even used a standard account. Is using a standard account a better practice? Also, how does doing average task such as installing programs and updating work through the standard user account?

My friend and I share my laptop. Recently I found out that he was watching porn on my computer. So I promptly confronted him, and told him to stop. Weeks later, he did it again. So I downloaded Norton's Safety Minder to prevent it. So this sneaky prick goes around and enables the guest account, and lo and behold, porn fest again. What can I do? I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? I know you can disable it, tried that, he just re-enables it, then disables it before he gets off. I'm really frustrated about this.

I run Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio, and never had issues.recently I had this situation where some software doesn't run properly on my main account (admin) but only in a secondary account I had created the software is installed without problems, but then it fails to run properly as an example I have a small car speed detector which has a software to download journeys. it doesn't run as it should on the main account no matter what I try. similarly i bought a Sony Bloggie and its portable software as well as the main software that came with it don't work properly, but they do on the other account, so I (annoyingly) have to switch users, and run the software there, and then go back to my main account.I suspect some anti-virus or other stuff from my main account is "blocking" things somehow. I also had a number of instances where I get alerts like "windows cannot open this file for security reasons". I have tried to change security settings, firewall settings but nothing worked.there was a general security level that required admin status to lower, yet although I obviously am admin, windows wouldn't allow me to do.

I created a secondary user account on my PC. When I try to login, it will look like it's logging in, but it just logs back out, returning to the main screen to choose an account to login to.If I'm logged into my main account, and I switch users and try to login to the newly created secondary account, it logs me out of my main account, and doesn't login to the secondary account, and once again, returns to the main screen to choose an account to login to.This also happens with the guest account. In addition, it does not give me the generic error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"How can I fix this?

I am using both a laptop and tablet to check email I have set up both devices with imap accounts.
The issue is that I don't want to lose all my old folders and email from the old pop3 account and I can't find a way to move or copy them to the newly created account on my laptop so I'd like to leave the old account, inactive, in Outlook.
Also, I don't want to get messages into two different folders. Is there a way to disable the old pop3 account without removing it?
I have tried deleting the password so it won't send/receive from that account but all I get is the constant "enter password" box which is naturally not an ideal state of affairs.
PS it probably isn't relevant but FYI the tablet is a Motorola Xoom Android and the laptop is an Asus running Win 7 Home Premium and Outlook 2010 as in the subject line.

I just had a new motherboard fitted and now find that my admin account cannot see everything on the PC. Moreover my user+admin account has lost its admin properties. Currently (as advised by the repairer) I am trying to put all my settings onto the admin account in the (defective thought it is) and have been partially successful. Still however I am finding it difficult to get some settings onto the admin account, for example Thunderbird and Skype are not working. Is it possible for me to find the settings and add them to the admin User account under C:Users ?

I noticed a few days ago that my computer power plan was wrong so went to control panel to change and it says some settings are managed by your administrator and wont let me choose anything.
- UAC is disabled
- My account is only admin account
- Global built in admin account is disabled
- System restore wont work
Basically the computer is still functioning to an extent
- Still have access to C: and my other drive
- can access cmd.exe
- also got access to system folder too
I have went through checked all the privileges for my user and the administrators group all are ok, used the "windows god mode" shortcut to check through the rest of the settings everything to my knowledge seems fine except a few basic rights it seems. Also it blocks access to things like my AMD Fusion utility which works with the motherboard to control the Power plans (which i need to change) So does anyone know how I can restore my admin rights? Bear in mind that I cannot do system restore I also tried it from F8 no go.

I'm not sure what happened, but this is a new one for me. I was using my mother's laptop and decided to create a new user account for myself. I thought this would be a way of avoiding her complaints and worries of me "messing something up" on her account, i.e., trying to improve her usage of the computer. That's a story for another day. After logging out of my account, I went to log back into hers and found the icon for my account and a blank "other user" icon. I attempted to enter her username (she had no password, at least not that she recalls) but the account pic that shows up in User Accounts doesn't show up and I was unable to log back into her account. I've tried changing my account status and hers, but nothing works.

I've had a lot of trouble trying to fix my 3 year old PC. I recently set it up to my parents TV so they can watch DVD's and browse the internet. I wanted to disable the need for a password to log in and found a method of skipping the log in screen. Inside user accounts I un-ticked "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".Unfortunately after a restart, the account that had been set up as an administrator had been converted to a guest account (No idea why this would happen?!). The hidden admin account in windows 7 is also disabled and can not be accessed (in safe mode or command prompt) at all to re-enable the other user's admin status. I can not start anything in elevated status or install any new applications at all as there are no admins! Trying to activate the admin account in command prompt comes up with."System Error 5 has occurred, Access is denied"The system is running on windows 7 home premium 32bit. UAC was turned down to the lowest setting in the interface, but I can not access the setting at all now! I was just about to set up a system recovery as the pc was setup exactly as I wanted it, so there's no way to do a system restore either! I've exhausted all the possible solutions I could find, which just keeps leading to more problems which ends up in an infinite loop which is unfixable!Oh, I was also using logmein at the time to do remote desktop in case my parents. One other thing to note is that within the netplwiz window, there are 2 administrators stated. One is Mcx1 and the other is LogMeInRemoteUser which are both in the groups HomeUsers and administrators. All other user accounts are only in the HomeUsers group. To add even more confusion I can't even add a new standard user from the user account controls!edit: I booted up my pc whilst holding F8. Started the system repair from the menu and managed to log into the administrator logmein account! Accessed the commandline from there with an elevated status but no use. I've attempted a solution found here but the file was already in use so I could not get past the Target SAM step [URL]...
