View 1 RepliesI just installed Windows 7 build 7068. 64bit.I have an Asus P5WD2E-Premium mobo, and 5 Western Digital Hard drives of various sizes, all SATA.Windows recognizes only 2 of the drives, the c drive of course, and only 1 of two WD 400gig hds, which are identical.I know this may be a mobo issue, but, wasn't sure about Windows 7.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy desktop does not detect and external hard drive that do not come with their own power supply. I have many externals that also plug into the wall and they are working fine; but whenever it is an external without a plug, i.e. the portable ones they are never found.
They do not show up in Computer Management, so it is not because I did not assign a letter to the drive.
I have tried various things, but I don't know what I should be testing for or looking for. These externals all work on other laptops and other desktops perfectly fine so it is not the externals. When they are plugged into my desktop, they light up normally like they should, but the desktop never detects them. I have tried these externals with the different USB cable I have on hand, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't matter which USB port I plug the device in, it still gives me no response.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new laptop, which was set up for me in the shop. Everything was working perfectly. Now however, my PC is not recognising the printer. I have previously been able to print from this laptop using the same cable, printer and USB port.
When I try to 'troubleshoot' this problem, I get a message that the printer driver is not installed. I thought Windows 7 automatically installed devices when connected via USB?
I have double checked the cable with another laptop and all is fine. I have double checked both USB ports with other devices and all is fine.
I'm new to this site so hopefully i don't do anything wrong!! I consider myself fairly smart with computers but my laptop has gone beyond my brain At first it would just reboot itself after being on it for a little bit, I tried downloading an antivirus (avast) and it all went downhill!! Now it doesn't even recognize the windows 7, gives me a black screen telling me error and to put in disc, which I've never had one, and says: FILE CI.DLL STATUS:0XC00000E9 I cannot get it to go any farther than there,is there anyone that might be able to help?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was working fine until recently when I installed a new SSD (I used an optical bay caddy). The SSD works fine, and actually everything is fine except for the fact that after I shut down the computer it does not power off automatically (I have to hold down the power button for a few seconds). However, when I start it again,Windows does not complain about not being shut down properly, so I guess that it manages to do so, it's just that the power is not cut off. I should also say that neither restart, hibernate or sleep work. The result is the same, with the mention that for hibernate and sleep Windows does complain when rebooted (which is natural for sleep but I don't understand why it happens for hibernate).
The problem starts during the Windows installation, when it gets stuck on reboot. However, I can power it off manually and start it again and it all goeswell. should also say that:- I use Windows 7 64bit with SP1- the laptop is an ASUS K53SC- the SSD is a Corsair Force 3 60GBThe things I have tried so far are- I tried a different version of Windows 7 (on 32-bit)- I tried updating the BIOS (turns out I had the latest version)- I tried disabling the SSD or uninstalling its driver from device manager- I tried disabling all devices that could be disabled from device manager- I tried closing all services before shut down (from task manager)- I tried selective boot (from msconfig) with all services disabled
I made my Windows 7 64-bit laptop my new desktop.I put all the peripherals to the laptop; monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc, etc.Everything works fine.I am able to restart & shut down the laptop from the added monitor(start menu), however, I'm not able to power it back on from a complete shut down from the 2nd keyboard. I have read
there is a way to do this. Right now, I must go into the laptop and toggle the on/off key.My question, is there a way to add a turn-on key(power on) to the 2nd keyboard? And if so, which key would be most appropriate for this?
I have a laptop, Sony Vaio, which have the power button on the right side, not over the keyboard like some other models. So I would like to turn on the laptop by pushing the power button anytime - even when the lid is closed. But this is not the case, I can only turn on the laptop when i open the lid. I have connected my laptop to TV (as dock, via HDMI port) to look at movies. I have changed the power settings to do nothing when i closing the lid. Which works fine, but I still need to open a lid, turn on, and close the lid again! I think it should be an easy way to solve this problem. So i want to know is there any way to turn on windows when the lid is closed?

how to install windows hoping that it would fix a problem he has recently had, He was updating his system and a power cut happened, and his laptop turned off. When he boots up, he gets to options, Start windows Normally, Launch Startup repair, He asked me if i could fresh install windows as that may help, When I try this, the system freezes at Setup is starting, If I run startup repair, I get error 0xc00000e9 (Error communicating with device) If I start windows normally, goes to starting windows, then the same error
I am guessing the hard drive failed, but I want to make sure before telling him.
I have a MEDION MD96850 Laptop. Ever since the battery died, I have been running the laptop on AC power. This has been fine for my work. However, since yesterday, the laptop just won't turn on. The power supply is on but the laptop won't start. I have tried 3 power adapters but it's the same result.
One of my hinges is damaged and I can see a wire inside - maybe this is the cause of the problem? I read that on some laptops there's some switch underneath the touchpad that does something but I don't have a clue.
Due to my stupidity, I delayed in backing up much of my work and now find myself desperate to access it again. I really don't want to lose all the work.
Laptop will not turn off when I tell it to shut down. The operating system seems to shut down, but the computer itself stays on (case lights and fan are still active) and can only be turned off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. I have tried everything short of re-installing the OS - which I cannot do because of the non-transferable programs I have on this laptop. It is a Dell Vostro 3450 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

The Laptops have no problems accessing internet through wifi but will not see the shared drives on the LAN via Wifi and I have to plug in to the LAN.I thought I'd cracked it as Kaspersky had the home wifi network down as public and I did have access via wifi for a short time, but it soon disappeared.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recieved a HP G62 340US about a year ago. A couple months back, around christmas, the computer stopped booting. It hung at the windows 7 starting screen. I ran a test and the long dst failed. I bought a new seagate 500Gb hard drive and reinstalled windows 7 (from the recovery disks that I had to buy). My computer has been working fine since about a week ago. When I opened Firefox or wordpad, I would get a BSOD. I found out it was a problem with my fonts folder. If I try to open the fonts folder, I get another BSOD. Then today I opened Photoshop and another BSOD. When my computer restarted, It said hard drive failure is immenent, then I preformed hard drive diagnostics. SMART passed, short dst passed, and long dst failed. Last week when I preformed the test, everything passed. I am worried that my hard drive will die again soon. Could it be that the hard drive is corrupted where the font folder is?

So about a month and a half ago I bought myself a new MSI Laptop, and in the past 3 weeks I've had 5 Driver Power State Failure (DPSF) BSOD's. I've searched around but I'm not confident enough when it comes to BSOD's to actually do anything without first getting some advice for my particular problem. All I have really been able to tell from this is that the error always occurs at the same location, ntoskrnl.exe (+7cc40), which, being a critical part of the OS, I assume is a very bad thing. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had this issue for a while with my Dell Studio XPS 1645 laptop. It is a guess, but i'd say 5/10 times the power cord comes out of the laptop (for whatever reason - moving it etc) then the laptop will simply black screen and instantly restart and boot up again without an error message or any information as to why. This doesn't make any sense to me because every time I do have the battery pack inserted into the laptop and over 30% battery life (this is when ill plug the charger in).

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs I started working on it, I seemed to experience very erratic, random issues with the network connectivity. After several reinstallations of Windows 7 and Sony drivers, however, I have identified the pattern. When the laptop is on AC power, connectivity is not a problem. When I'm on battery power, however, the network adapters cease to work and actually completely disappear from Device Manager. The is true even when the battery is fully charged and everything else works normally.I have already tried going into all the power management settings for the laptop itself and for the network adapters and made sure that they are not being shut down when the laptop is running on battery power, and yet the problem persists.
