I created a folder on my desktop and add images of books I have sold almost daily. With Windows XP, the images would stay in order as I added them, but with Windows 7 they are always in order of the image name. I have tried using the different sort by date options, but they are always sorted by the image name (which is a 5 digit number). How can I sort them by the date I add them to the folder?

In the columns I have the date selected, along with "subject" and "from" and that's all. I did a repair of Windows Live Essentials, but it didn't help.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSomething about Windows 7 that is very frustrating is that when I want to do a global search of my entire hard drive, and I type something in the search box that appears above Start logo when you click on it, it shows the results in a new window sorted by, according to Microsoft, relevance. Since I have a lot of data on my hard drive, these searches take a long time, around 2 minutes. I always need these search results to be sorted by date, so I then have to click on the "date received" column header to re-sort by date, which takes another 2 minutes or so.I really need these search results to sort by date, every time, by default, which will cut my searching time in half. There does not appear to be a setting for changing the default search results order for these types of searches (searches using the global search box above the Start logo).
View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 64 bit SP1 - Clean Install. I have found an incredibly annoying problem. I have external USB drives on my laptop, both esata and USB 3. I store a lot of HD video clips that I take on them. It is very important that I set the sort order to Date Created (due to the naming convention on my camcorder). Before doing a clean install from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 7 SP1 64bit, if I changed the order in explorer it quickly changed and then remembered the sort order, so next time I went into the folder on my external drive the files were in the correct order.
Now, whenever I go into the folder it takes up to 5 minutes to sort the files (there are some 4000 files in the folder). If I go to other folder on my laptop, then back to that folder, it takes another 5 minutes to sort them again! At the moment I am tempted to go back to pre-SP1. I have taken the external drive to another laptop i have with SP1 on it, and it does the same thing. I can't wait around for windows to re-order my files whenever I go into that folder, especially as it takes such a long time.
I installed new folders, then decided I wanted to move them to become subfolders of another folder. Drag & drop (left-click) moved the folders to become subfolders, but left the folder icons in the old location as well. When I try to delete them, I get an error message saying the folder doesn't exist at that location. OK, it shouldn't, but why can't I/how do I delete the (old) folder icons?

But all the files and subfolders that add after were shared I can't see.I found the subfolders that add after the shared folder was created were not shared and if I shared the subfolder I can see; but with the files nothing.How can I see all files and subfolders added to the shared folder after created?

Now, it does sort by name but not if i don't click refresh or navigating to another folder and coming back to that directory.I've set it to sort by name. Is there something that's missing?

So if I select mulyiple folders, they all have their modified date changed to the same time. Is there a known way to stop this from happening? It's a little annoying right now.

Each time I come back to this folder, windows will take like 8 or 10 seconds to load them all. I don't think it rebuilds thumnails, which would take even much longer, no it seems it reloads and resorts.
Anyway to speed this up so it will load instantly ?

If by date I just look up a recent download at top of list. How do I change behavior so downloads in start menu (right column) sorts by date? I changed the folder properties in explorer so the download folder sorts by date. It does there no problem. But not in the start menu.

Now in 7 and vista, as soon as you rename it, it gets reordered in the folder by name. It jumps away from its current position. With 250 photos in the folder, its hard to get it back.I need information on the photo to rename the next photo. Any way to make it stay in place till the folder is opened and closed? View 2 Replies View RelatedI managed to add a wireless network profile to my IBM lenovo T400 laptop which runs on Win 7 OS. However I am not able to see it listed in the list that apperas when I click on the wireless transmission icon on the bottom right of the screen.
I can confirm that the 'wireless radio' button in the said laptop is turned on and is able to see other wireless networks in the vicinity. I can also confirm that the particular wireless network is actually functioning as I am able to access it from my Win XP machine.
In the WinXP machine, my security type is 'WPA2-PSK', I am not able to find the same option in the Win 7 machine, so I selected WPA2-Personal. I also tried playing the with the other 'Security Type' options in the Win 7 machine, but nothing solves the problem.
I noticed this a few days after having to restore my drive from a True Image backup.Running Win 7 Professional.I currently have 5 "recent" programs listed in my Start Menu (not pinned). I have Properties set to show 15 recent programs. When I run a program from the Start Menu (not the "recent programs," but the full list) or from Explorer (navigate to program and double-click the exe file), the program does not get added to the list. The only recently run programs being added are ones I run from Desktop shortcuts. I know this is not normal behavior; my laptop, also running Win 7 Professional, adds recent programs regardless of how they're launched.

View 6 Replies View Relatedy motherboard Asus P8Z77-V LX can handle up to 32 GB of DDR3 1600mhz.I did do a "memtest" on all of my 16GB DDR3 1600mhz, 10 passes, 10 hours and no errors. I had my original 4 GB still in the computer as I had to remove the other ram to install Windows 7. Once windows was installed I ran it with just the 4 GB for a few days to make sure everything was working which it was. So I then re-installed the remaining 12 GB of ram and then right away windows explorer kept crashing. I removed the 12GB I just put in and reinstalled each stick separately with the original 4 GB so each time there was 8 GB of ram installed with no problems at all.So what gives ???Is there a default setting somewhere that is limiting my memory?
