I can't get my WLM to sort by date, either ascenting or descending. New emails end up all over the place and I have to go down the list to find them. In the columns I have the date selected, along with "subject" and "from" and that's all. I did a repair of Windows Live Essentials, but it didn't help.

With Windows XP, the images would stay in order as I added them, but with Windows 7 they are always in order of the image name. I have tried using the different sort by date options, but they are always sorted by the image name (which is a 5 digit number). How can I sort them by the date I add them to the folder?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSomething about Windows 7 that is very frustrating is that when I want to do a global search of my entire hard drive, and I type something in the search box that appears above Start logo when you click on it, it shows the results in a new window sorted by, according to Microsoft, relevance. Since I have a lot of data on my hard drive, these searches take a long time, around 2 minutes. I always need these search results to be sorted by date, so I then have to click on the "date received" column header to re-sort by date, which takes another 2 minutes or so.I really need these search results to sort by date, every time, by default, which will cut my searching time in half. There does not appear to be a setting for changing the default search results order for these types of searches (searches using the global search box above the Start logo).
View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 64 bit SP1 - Clean Install. I have found an incredibly annoying problem. I have external USB drives on my laptop, both esata and USB 3. I store a lot of HD video clips that I take on them. It is very important that I set the sort order to Date Created (due to the naming convention on my camcorder). Before doing a clean install from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 7 SP1 64bit, if I changed the order in explorer it quickly changed and then remembered the sort order, so next time I went into the folder on my external drive the files were in the correct order.
Now, whenever I go into the folder it takes up to 5 minutes to sort the files (there are some 4000 files in the folder). If I go to other folder on my laptop, then back to that folder, it takes another 5 minutes to sort them again! At the moment I am tempted to go back to pre-SP1. I have taken the external drive to another laptop i have with SP1 on it, and it does the same thing. I can't wait around for windows to re-order my files whenever I go into that folder, especially as it takes such a long time.
I spent a lot of time in developing a long category list, for use in my calendar, but mainly to group and filter my contacts.I want those categories to appear in a specific (grouped) order, for easy navigating in the long list. I used symbols to create groups: Ⓒ for countries, Ⓟ for people, Ⓧ for companies, etc.After assigning a number of categories to a specific contact, I assume these categories will be displayed there in the same sorting order as the master category list. But that is not the case. Both in full individual contact views as in list/table views the categories seem to be quite randomly displayed. For instance: if i assigned:
! important, country, people, company, inactive
The result(s) in the various views can be completely different:
country, ! important, company, inactive
! important, company, inactive, country etc Unassigning and then re-assigning a category to a contact did not make a difference.
How to FORCE outlook to obey the sort order of the Master Category List?
i have a lot of photos in different folders and i want to sort them into order of date taken, i know this can be done via ..right click, sort by..more..date taken.But this is a pain to keep doing, is there anyway i can have it so windows remembers that i want "date taken" in the right click menu or can it be set as default anywhere?

I have my file "Sort by" set to Name; Ascending but when I open a file it always moves to the end position when I close it. As an example say I have a folder named Book A. Inside that folder are files named Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 in that order. If I open and edit Chapter 2 when I close it the files are now in this order: Chapter 1, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, and Chapter 2. How do I make the files stay in the proper sort order? It's very irritating to have to move files back into their correct order every time.

I have a folder for every artist, and in those folders there�s a folder for each album. The only thing on this hard drive is music. In Windows XP, I could sort by name and show in groups. This way everything was kept alphabetical, all the �A� bands were under �A �, all the �B� bands were under �B�� With Windows 7 I get gigantic chunks of A-H, I-P and Q-Z. I have over nearly 600 folders on this drive. Grouping all those folders into 3 giant blocks is nothing short of useless. Is there any way at all to sort like XP?

I save a lot of folders on my desktop. For the most part they are sorted alphabetically, from A to Z, with no problem.
For the last several months, if something is named numerically, they are saved backwards. In other words, if I have files named 001, 002, 003 instead of showing up in 001-002-003 sort order, they show up in 003-002-001 sort order.
How do I change this back to the original 001-002-003 sort order?
Something must have gone haywire installing blackberry desktop 6.1 software or windows installer is going nuts but I really don't know where to begin. I built a computer from a bare bones kit. It is running windows 7. It has been running just fine for months now. But all of a sudden I think *THINK, that when I click on any video file on my computer the windows installer starts and says it is trying to install blackberry desktop 6.1 software. Then it has some not found error and never finishes installing and keeps restarting the installer. I have not found any other programs that cause this. Only video related things. I do have BB desktop software installed and it runs just fine and backs up my phone regularly so I didn't think it was a problem with the blackberry install, which by the way, was done months ago also. I watched task manager processes when this happens and all I see is msiexec.exe and msiexec.exe*32 pop up in the list. Nothing about blackberry or anything.

At the beginning, it was only when I was playing Deus Ex so I supposed it was because of the graphic card that was too hot, but it's now happening for no reason. Actually, the last ones I got happened when I was just watching streaming videos. On Vimeo I think, but I don't believe it comes from the website. Is it possible that the graphic card reacts weirdly and makes my computer crash when I'm only using it to read videos on internet ? I'm not even sure this is the reason why it crashed. I watch lots of videos.It seems that this is all kind of BSODs. Last week, I had two irql_not_less_or_equal involving disk.sys andfilesys.dll. Today I had two other BSODs, notably one system service exception involving fltmgr.
In addition to that, my Windows doesn't save the minidumps anymore. The last one I got are from 9/14. I can send those to you if you want to, even though I'm not sure it's really useful since they are kind of outdated.I have Windows Ultimate x64 SP2, I mounted (is that the correct word ?) the computer myself approximatively one year and a half ago and didn't have any issue for a long time, I believe Windows 7 was the only OS on this computer and I don't recall re-installing it, but I'm not really sure, is there any way to verify this in the system ?
I just bought a new 1TB drive. On my previous drive, everytime i (i.e) copy/paste files to that directory, it automatically sort itself out by Name. Now, it does sort by name but not if i don't click refresh or navigating to another folder and coming back to that directory.I've set it to sort by name. Is there something that's missing?

For instance, I'll pick "ascending" and close the folder. Then when I come back to it later, it automatically switches to "descending" on it's own. I'm really getting tired of having to right-mouse click the contents of a folder all the time to correct this.
