Windows 7 Laptop And Trying To Sort Out The Library Feature?
Nov 12, 2011
I'm looking at a windows 7 laptop and trying to sort out the library feature - I don't have a copy of windows 7 so cannot emulate the issueBut on the library if you click on pictures or videos - it shows all the library's availableI know the library feature allows you to bring files and folders into one place - but by default I have not seen the library show all the livrarys, music, pictures, videos etc in each sectionSo if i click on pictures - I see all the picture folders and the music folder and the videos folder
Libraries are one of the coolest features introduced by Windows 7. They can help people organize their files and folders very efficiently. By using libraries, you can easily build a system so that you can always find what you want in seconds. Not only that, but you can also sort, tag or edit files and folders with just a few clicks. In this article I will explain what libraries are, show how they work and how to create new ones. Also, I'll show how to add new folders to a library, how to modify its properties and how to delete a library.
Is there a way to sort 'like a library' in windows explorer (omit 'The ' and 'A ' from file names)? i.e. I have the files (sorted as windows would normally do with sort by name):
A File 4.ext A File 2.ext File 3.ext File 7.ext The File 1.ext The File 5.ext The File 6.ext The File 8.ext The File 9.ext
And I want: The File 1.ext A File 2.ext File 3.ext A File 4.ext The File 5.ext The File 6.ext File 7.ext The File 8.ext The File 9.ext
I do not want to rename my files like this: File 1, The.ext File 2, A.ext File 3.ext File 4, A.ext File 5, The.ext File 6, The.ext File 7.ext File 8, The.ext File 9, The.ext
The file name formats are actually 'The Film.avi' or 'The TV Show SXXEYY.mp4' (where XX is the Series andY Y is the Epesode as a double digit numbers). If there is anyway to do this or a 3rd party program that will work with network sharing (my files are not on the local machine but a file server running windows 7).
We recently installed Yahoo messenger and suddenly the Library folder isn't showing any folders/files under the Administrator account. When I go to create a new Library it reads the following error message: "Unable to create the new file 'New Library.library-ms' File System Error: (16389)." Not only is the library no longer accessible, but I cannot access any of the Music, Pictures or Documents from the Start Menu.I am only able to access the folders using the search bar by selecting "User Name" from the drop down box, then suddenly everything's there. It will not allow me to drag/drop anything into the Library folder or even create a new one.
Can't see how to sort the results of a "Windows Search" - the search you launch from the Start button, not the search you do in Windows Explorer. I've tried menus, and right clicking everywhere.
currently my window folders sort by filename as the factory default. I know I can change this by right clicking on the white space and then choosing how I want my files to be displayed.however I have huge folders and then have to wait for explorer to reindex the files every time I close or open a folderHow do I change the default file sort from name to date? so that I don't have to do this every time.and others connected to it but they dont' seem to address my specific problem. I don't want to change icons or layout, simply the way files are organized when they are compiled.
Something must have gone haywire installing blackberry desktop 6.1 software or windows installer is going nuts but I really don't know where to begin. I built a computer from a bare bones kit. It is running windows 7. It has been running just fine for months now. But all of a sudden I think *THINK, that when I click on any video file on my computer the windows installer starts and says it is trying to install blackberry desktop 6.1 software. Then it has some not found error and never finishes installing and keeps restarting the installer. I have not found any other programs that cause this. Only video related things. I do have BB desktop software installed and it runs just fine and backs up my phone regularly so I didn't think it was a problem with the blackberry install, which by the way, was done months ago also. I watched task manager processes when this happens and all I see is msiexec.exe and msiexec.exe*32 pop up in the list. Nothing about blackberry or anything.
I would like to temporarily see my Contacts list sorted by last name, since I am comparing it with a printed directory that is sorted that way. However, the Contacts list is currently sorted by first name. I haven't found an option to change the sort order. Is there one? This would only be temporary, since I normally like to use the Contacts sorted by first name.
Something about Windows 7 that is very frustrating is that when I want to do a global search of my entire hard drive, and I type something in the search box that appears above Start logo when you click on it, it shows the results in a new window sorted by, according to Microsoft, relevance. Since I have a lot of data on my hard drive, these searches take a long time, around 2 minutes. I always need these search results to be sorted by date, so I then have to click on the "date received" column header to re-sort by date, which takes another 2 minutes or so.I really need these search results to sort by date, every time, by default, which will cut my searching time in half. There does not appear to be a setting for changing the default search results order for these types of searches (searches using the global search box above the Start logo).
Is there a way to rename or create new sorting option with custom text ?there is a lot of categories, however i need to have my own custom labeled field then in the Detail view panel, by default, in the small size, there are these fields ready to edit:
- tags - categories - content status
the easiest way would be if i could rename those to my needs so it stays easily editable for the user?
I have been searching everywhere on this forum and others in trying to fix this. I have a 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate machine. I am trying to add .Net 3.5 from the install windows feature section. It fails and after a reboot it reverts back to not installed. Some things I have tried. I completely removed all .Net installs, I ran the .Net cleanup utility
Running Win 7 64 bit and I noticed that my AddRemove Windows feature box is blank. I ran the windows readiness tool and tried system restore to no avail.
HomeGroup is a new feature introduced by Windows 7 which aims to simplify the process of sharing content and devices on your home network. In older versions of Windows, sharing content was a tedious and sometimes painful process, especially for home users. By using HomeGroups, you can now access all shared content in your home network with just one click. I know it sounds to good to be true. That's why, in this article, I will show what a HomeGroup is, how it works, how to create one and join your home computers to it. Also, I'll show how to change the password of your HomeGroup and how to retrieve it in case you forgot it.
I'm not exactly sure how the Backup and Restore feature in Windows 7 work. Does it backup only your operating system and important processes and certain programs, or does it also backup the data on your harddrive such as music, movies etc? Is this feature essentially the same as creating a recovery partition/disk ?
Using the Windows 7 Backup and Restore feature I made a back up of my Documents folder and my Desktop (the only two things on my computer I care about). I did not check off the option "Include a system image of Drives: ---". After the backup completed I clicked on the JOSH-PC (backup file) the window saying "Choose an option below for the selected backup" came up. If I click "Restore my files from this backup" will it automatically overwrite my current Desktop and Documents folder with what is in the back up or will I have a choice as to where on my computer these files are restored to?

You can use Problem Steps Recorder to automatically capture the steps you take on a computer, including a text description of where you clicked and a picture of the screen during each click (called a screen shot). Once you capture these steps, you can save them to a file that can be used by a support professional or someone else helping you with a computer problem.
