wasn't sure where to post this. i have a ton of files and folds to file away. i would like it when i choose sort by name to not just do the folders first then the files after the folders. i mean i want say folder abc, file abc, folder bcd, file bcd instead of folder abc, folder bcd, file abc, file bcd. it would make it so much faster to sort through what can be deleted before moving what i want to keep.
View 3 RepliesVista allowed the contents of a window to be sorted by name, date modified, etc in any view -- but it appears Windows 7 drops that menu bar for all views other than "details" view. I can right-click within the box to sort, but it's very inefficient. retain that detail bar in all views?

Win 7 does not do this.much prefer "List" view, but the only way to change it is folder-by-folder which becomes aggravating after several dozen folder changes.Plus, once you have changed the file view inside of a folder to "List" view... if you change the folder name, every file and folder, no matter how deep, inside that re-named folder will return to "Details" view.hat a PITA...I have Googled this and searched for some time, but have come up with no answer, I thought I might ask the folks at Tom's and see what we come up with.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had Windows 7 Home Premium put on my HP Pavilion a6500f last week. I had this same problem with Vista 64-bit but not with Windows XP. I have my file "Sort by" set to Name; Ascending but when I open a file it always moves to the end position when I close it. As an example say I have a folder named Book A. Inside that folder are files named Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 in that order. If I open and edit Chapter 2 when I close it the files are now in this order: Chapter 1, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, and Chapter 2. How do I make the files stay in the proper sort order? It's very irritating to have to move files back into their correct order every time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I open any window maximised, the taskbar is hid behind. The super key does return the taskbar until the window is made active again. The windows also take up full vertical space on the screen - no space is left for the taskbar, which I think maybe the real problem.

I have a folder for every artist, and in those folders there�s a folder for each album. The only thing on this hard drive is music. In Windows XP, I could sort by name and show in groups. This way everything was kept alphabetical, all the �A� bands were under �A �, all the �B� bands were under �B�� With Windows 7 I get gigantic chunks of A-H, I-P and Q-Z. I have over nearly 600 folders on this drive. Grouping all those folders into 3 giant blocks is nothing short of useless. Is there any way at all to sort like XP?

I've tried all the common sense steps on how to sort but nothing works. This occurs on iTunes Windows, iPod, and iPad "Remote" (controlling a mac mini with iTunes). Question 2 Is there a way to change the order Dir sorts files in. And I want to have the files sorted the way I want by just typing dir. Not using any /'s after dir.
I save a lot of folders on my desktop. For the most part they are sorted alphabetically, from A to Z, with no problem.
For the last several months, if something is named numerically, they are saved backwards. In other words, if I have files named 001, 002, 003 instead of showing up in 001-002-003 sort order, they show up in 003-002-001 sort order.
How do I change this back to the original 001-002-003 sort order?
Something must have gone haywire installing blackberry desktop 6.1 software or windows installer is going nuts but I really don't know where to begin. I built a computer from a bare bones kit. It is running windows 7. It has been running just fine for months now. But all of a sudden I think *THINK, that when I click on any video file on my computer the windows installer starts and says it is trying to install blackberry desktop 6.1 software. Then it has some not found error and never finishes installing and keeps restarting the installer. I have not found any other programs that cause this. Only video related things. I do have BB desktop software installed and it runs just fine and backs up my phone regularly so I didn't think it was a problem with the blackberry install, which by the way, was done months ago also. I watched task manager processes when this happens and all I see is msiexec.exe and msiexec.exe*32 pop up in the list. Nothing about blackberry or anything.

At the beginning, it was only when I was playing Deus Ex so I supposed it was because of the graphic card that was too hot, but it's now happening for no reason. Actually, the last ones I got happened when I was just watching streaming videos. On Vimeo I think, but I don't believe it comes from the website. Is it possible that the graphic card reacts weirdly and makes my computer crash when I'm only using it to read videos on internet ? I'm not even sure this is the reason why it crashed. I watch lots of videos.It seems that this is all kind of BSODs. Last week, I had two irql_not_less_or_equal involving disk.sys andfilesys.dll. Today I had two other BSODs, notably one system service exception involving fltmgr.
In addition to that, my Windows doesn't save the minidumps anymore. The last one I got are from 9/14. I can send those to you if you want to, even though I'm not sure it's really useful since they are kind of outdated.I have Windows Ultimate x64 SP2, I mounted (is that the correct word ?) the computer myself approximatively one year and a half ago and didn't have any issue for a long time, I believe Windows 7 was the only OS on this computer and I don't recall re-installing it, but I'm not really sure, is there any way to verify this in the system ?
I just bought a new 1TB drive. On my previous drive, everytime i (i.e) copy/paste files to that directory, it automatically sort itself out by Name. Now, it does sort by name but not if i don't click refresh or navigating to another folder and coming back to that directory.I've set it to sort by name. Is there something that's missing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to sort files globally? It seems everytime I open or close a folder, it re-sorts it to another criteria from when I last set it. For instance, I'll pick "ascending" and close the folder. Then when I come back to it later, it automatically switches to "descending" on it's own. I'm really getting tired of having to right-mouse click the contents of a folder all the time to correct this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently in the past couple of weeks my computer has been freezing at random internals with absolutely no warning or prompting at all. It's not a case of me opening a specific program, or making it perform memory-intensive tasks -it will just completely freeze up out of the blue. This morning, all I did was turn it on and by the time I came back from making my cup of tea it had frozen itself. The other day I was typing a sentence onto a word document with no other programs open and it froze. The entire laptop becomes unresponsive -the capslock key doesn't respond, although interestingly enough my graphics tablet seemed to still be responsive (the lights would change colour like normal when I use my pen on it). The only option I have is to do a hard reboot.
This has been happening intermittently for the past couple of months (perhaps starting around June?), but it's only recently starting to get worse. Before it happened once a week, and now it's starting to happen about once a day. I've run a virus check, registry clean and deleted some of my most recently installed programs but neither of them have helped.
The computer runs fine otherwise -no excessive slowing down, no crashing programs..
