Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package>> Yesterday I clean uninstalled my photo editing programs, Photplus X4 and PanoramaPlus, which are similar to Adobe Elements. The reason was that certain pics would not display, although displayed elsewhere.This morning my attempts to reinstall from the manufacturer's DVD Rom were unsuccessful with the above error.

Jan 5, 2013i have win 7 pro, 8gb ram, and home made pc. in the past 3/4 days the unspecified error message "win installer package could not open". i downloaded open office and it installs till the end of ms virtual ++ redistributable and the error nessage pops up. i have applied several fixes to no avail. i verified that win installer service was on, and the folder is intact. dont know if one of the files is corrupt? i am stumped. where do i go from here?

Dec 15, 2011I am running windows 7 sp1 and downloaded the german language service pack.but i can t install it and at the end of the progress it fails, with out mentioning the reason or giving an error.I didn t do that from windows update because i wanted to have the installation file for the future, after reinstalling windows.By the way, i have enough free space on windows drive, have downloaded the same 32- bit as the system, and the installation file doesn t seen to be corrupted.I also try to install it, instead of double-clicking- by going to region and language sections and install from there, but in browse window i can t give the installion file to it and it says that : no valid installation package is founded in this folder.

Mar 6, 2009I am able to connect from XP to a network share at my workplace by giving login/password. However, when I try to connect from Windows 7 i get the error: "specified authentication package is unknown"
However, I am able to connect to another shares. From XP no one is having any problems in connecting to this share at all. Have googled but to no avail. Found one suggestion to add 'authentication packages' key to registry but it was already present in my Win 7 and with the correct value.
Any help would be appreciated as I am at my wits end with this issue. Win 7 is working flawlessly otherwise. Much much better than XP. Vista was pretty much unusable on my laptop (HP TC 4400 tabletpc)

When I open Windows update, it shows that the aforesaid update is not installed. And when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it and asks to delete it. I can't even open Microsoft Security Essentials manually from Program files. Things return to normal on System Restore. But the Microsoft Security Essentials appears potentially unprotected and asks for a full system scan. But before the scan is complete the Microsoft Security Essentials screen closes and the desktop returns once again. Jul 6, 2010I am having trouble installing Windows XP Mode on a Dell E4300 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. For the record, I have installed XPM on multiple occasions without any issues at all, until now. Upon launching the XP Mode installer, it starts to deploy the temporary files but hangs at expanding 'sourcesxpm'. Then I get the following error: 'This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package'.
If I try multiple times, I am sometimes able to get beyond that point where the XP Mode setup screen shows up, but then I receive an error during the installation process that says: 'Source file not found: D:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxsourcesXPM. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it'. I've checked everything I could with no avail permissions, Hardware Virtualization. I also installed it on an identical machine with the same setup. Then I got a hunch that the Windows Installer might have been corrupted. So I ran the command to un-install it (msiexec /uninstall) & got the same error message as above.

Dec 13, 2011I managed to add a wireless network profile to my IBM lenovo T400 laptop which runs on Win 7 OS. However I am not able to see it listed in the list that apperas when I click on the wireless transmission icon on the bottom right of the screen.
I can confirm that the 'wireless radio' button in the said laptop is turned on and is able to see other wireless networks in the vicinity. I can also confirm that the particular wireless network is actually functioning as I am able to access it from my Win XP machine.
In the WinXP machine, my security type is 'WPA2-PSK', I am not able to find the same option in the Win 7 machine, so I selected WPA2-Personal. I also tried playing the with the other 'Security Type' options in the Win 7 machine, but nothing solves the problem.
Program Does Not Get Added To List
May 15, 2012I noticed this a few days after having to restore my drive from a True Image backup.Running Win 7 Professional.I currently have 5 "recent" programs listed in my Start Menu (not pinned). I have Properties set to show 15 recent programs. When I run a program from the Start Menu (not the "recent programs," but the full list) or from Explorer (navigate to program and double-click the exe file), the program does not get added to the list. The only recently run programs being added are ones I run from Desktop shortcuts. I know this is not normal behavior; my laptop, also running Win 7 Professional, adds recent programs regardless of how they're launched.

Jun 14, 2012y motherboard Asus P8Z77-V LX can handle up to 32 GB of DDR3 1600mhz.I did do a "memtest" on all of my 16GB DDR3 1600mhz, 10 passes, 10 hours and no errors. I had my original 4 GB still in the computer as I had to remove the other ram to install Windows 7. Once windows was installed I ran it with just the 4 GB for a few days to make sure everything was working which it was. So I then re-installed the remaining 12 GB of ram and then right away windows explorer kept crashing. I removed the 12GB I just put in and reinstalled each stick separately with the original 4 GB so each time there was 8 GB of ram installed with no problems at all.So what gives ???Is there a default setting somewhere that is limiting my memory?

Nov 28, 2009I'm having some problems running a USB hardlock key over a Windows XP Mode virtual machine.
If I select the hardlock from the list of devices, it works ok and the app that uses the hardlock works great.
But if I try to run the application from the Start menu of the host system (Windows 7) as Windows XP Mode, the application does not detect the USB Hardlock key (though windows 7 does).
As far as I have worked through it, it would work if I could just manage somehow that when running a virtual machine, the USB hardlock key was loaded automatically. I don't need that USB hardlock key for any Windows 7 application.
Any idea?
Non-admin User For Added Security?
Apr 25, 2011I'm being forced into an upgrade because my last machine was getting old and slow and was infested with viruses.
One of my guys is recommending setting up a non-admin user account for the every day use of the laptop so that any undetected Trojans don't have admin rights if they embed themselves. Do you guys think this is even worth it? Or is simply keeping UAC turned ON, will be enough with an admin account?
