Ive got a problem with my aero, It turns off after a couple of seconds on power up.Getting a massage that Desktop Window Manager is disabled, while its started in services. Event viewer shows error message : (0x88980406).

I updated the driver for my PCI-e video card and it worked good, but got a message that said my "Desktop Window Manager is disabled". What does that mean and should I have it enabled?

It maybe a driver issue with the MOBO or some other device. Try and update the MOBO drivers to start with and see if that does anything. If worse comes to worse, you can do a start repair by booting from the W7 DVD.
I was actually thinking this was more specific to the video driver, as DWM has close ties to it...

We also noticed that most of the services are disabled and the ability to enable them is grayed out. We re enabled UAC but no help. I go to choose the "icon size" for my photos and it will not remember the selection, "medium icons" for the size of my photos in the selection window. It always reverts back to "large icons". I can only see 2 pictures at a time with "large icons" instead of 8 with "medium icons". No matter which option I choose to view my pictures it always reverts back to "large icons".

View 0 Replies View RelatedI booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)
EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it

After searching this forum, It was determined that the code made reference to the fact that a necessary service was not running, in this case the Task Scheduler.I have used the Services program (as an administrator) to attempt to restart this service, but in the properties every option in grayed out. I have checked and all dependant services for the Task Scheduler are running normally. I have run the checkdisk utility from the command prompt, and it did fix some corrupted files, but even after that the options are still greyed out.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the past, when client workstations were running Windows XP Pro, we could use Terminal Services Manager and take remote control over the user logged into the workstations.
Now that client workstations are upgrading over time to Windows 7 Enterprise (both x64 and x86), I cannot get remote control to work. When I open Terminal Services Manager on a Server 2008 box or Remote Desktop Services Manager on a Server 2008 R2 box and right-click, choose 'connect to Computer' and enter the IP or name of a workstation to connect to, I get 'Access is Denied'.
Every service I can think of on the client is running - remote registry, rpc, remote desktop is allowed, i can remote desktop into the machine (mstsc), no permission issues, etc. The firewall is turned off, etc. but I never get anything other than 'Access is denied'. Neither machine is running multiple monitors, both are updated as much as they can be.
Is there anyone doing this with Windows 7 workstations? There doesnt seem to be a slick alternative to this built in functionality - vnc is not close, logmein rescue is just an added cost, etc.
And now I am so screwed. I can't even open services.msc, I can't install an update, I can't run updates and I can't re enable anything because I can't get into services to do it. Please don't say system restore because I disabled it.

I have window 7 64 bits works on hp pavilion dv3 laptop The problem is that every time I push F2 or F4 or F4 or F6 .....F8 F10 .......etc I see the "window boot manager " screen it does not work like before whereas every single key takes you to a specific screen How to get rid of this problem ?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI made the choice to reinstall Windows 7 after finding my pc picked up Trojan Dropper/Gen-C according to Superantispyware. After installation I disabled unneeded/unwanted services, one of which is Remote Desktop Services. I did this on the original installation with no glitches. With the reinstall, this particular service 'resets' itself to the default(Automatic/Started)after every reboot even though I disable it. I have to re-disable it every time. According to Task Manager, any remote services listed are still Stopped.

1 - It is running windows 7 ultimate so supports aero over RDP.
2 - This system running same
3 - aero is actually running the windows are transparent.
4 - desktop composition is enabled in remote desktop options and on host system.
5 - it was working fine yesterday and possibly even earlier today.
However when I select my theme it doesn't change the colour of the windows and disable glass effect and I see this in the personalization window. "One or more of the themes has been disabled by remote desktop settings". I can select and use all the default aero themes, my theme doesn't work however.
I got this PC 3 weeks ago. For two days now Several of my devices have a Code 10 on start up. For instance my mouse in the Device Manager window has a code 10 and will not work until I use the trouble shooter and it re-installs the driver. I have tried updating the USB drivers as many recommend but there were no updates. I tried Microsoft's fix it, and it was not fixed.
