Desktop Window Manager Is Disabled
Jul 9, 2010I updated the driver for my PCI-e video card and it worked good, but got a message that said my "Desktop Window Manager is disabled". What does that mean and should I have it enabled?

Mar 6, 2011Ive got a problem with my aero, It turns off after a couple of seconds on power up.Getting a massage that Desktop Window Manager is disabled, while its started in services. Event viewer shows error message : (0x88980406).

Jan 5, 2012[code] On checking my event log after some slow response, I noticed that I am getting: Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.Reason : Graphics subsystem resources are over utilised.I am using Windows recommended settings. Mozilla on the main screen and outlook express on the slave screen.Ran the usual clear temp files and ran malwarebyes and superantispyware scans.I am not playing any games or music, just browsing one website (secure) and outlook express, why am I getting resource contention on the Desktop Window Manager?

Dec 2, 2009Why do I get this?. Desktop Window manager stopped working and was closed? I am using motherboard P4S8X with Windows 7 just install. And 2 gb memory.
It maybe a driver issue with the MOBO or some other device. Try and update the MOBO drivers to start with and see if that does anything. If worse comes to worse, you can do a start repair by booting from the W7 DVD.
I was actually thinking this was more specific to the video driver, as DWM has close ties to it...

When I come back to my user account, there are two messages on my taskbar that both say "Desktop Window Manager stopped working and was closed". I have uninstalled and reinstalled my Nvidia driver and updated to the latest driver version. I have even went to "task manager" and located the dwm.exe and made a dump file.

After searching this forum, It was determined that the code made reference to the fact that a necessary service was not running, in this case the Task Scheduler.I have used the Services program (as an administrator) to attempt to restart this service, but in the properties every option in grayed out. I have checked and all dependant services for the Task Scheduler are running normally. I have run the checkdisk utility from the command prompt, and it did fix some corrupted files, but even after that the options are still greyed out.

May 10, 2011It seems my remote desktop running on my test pc in the other room has locked my theme down.
1 - It is running windows 7 ultimate so supports aero over RDP.
2 - This system running same
3 - aero is actually running the windows are transparent.
4 - desktop composition is enabled in remote desktop options and on host system.
5 - it was working fine yesterday and possibly even earlier today.
However when I select my theme it doesn't change the colour of the windows and disable glass effect and I see this in the personalization window. "One or more of the themes has been disabled by remote desktop settings". I can select and use all the default aero themes, my theme doesn't work however.

For instance my mouse in the Device Manager window has a code 10 and will not work until I use the trouble shooter and it re-installs the driver. Every time I start up the laptop the desktop is black, there is no icons, and there is no bar at the bottom of the screen, and also the Libraries Window show up at the start up.
This laptop also did not come with any CD so I don't have an option to reformat do I? I think it maybe a virus but I'm not sure and I don't know what to do about it, when I try to open Mozzila Firefox from that Libraries Window i get a msg saying:

Dec 14, 2011i get exactly this Desktop-Folder-Window just randomly then and when. It pops up in the middle of the work. It puts itself over the active window. It does not seem to be related to any open software or any particular user action, its really just random...Sometimes it does not happen for a while, and then, however, it starts again. We talk about 1 new Window popping up in 5 minutes or so, sometimes more, sometimes less.
