View 0 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with some custom themes (I know, I know, but I'm pretty familiar with the process and I try to take extra precautions) and for what seems like no reason, I cannot resize Explorer (not IE, the actual file explorer) windows and if I attempt to use Aero Snap, absolutely nothing happens--I can maximize, minimize, etc. though. However, if I use any other program, I can resize and I can do snap, so obviously the problem is only with Windows Explorer. Another weird issue (besides System Restore not doing anything) is that I even installed another custom theme because I figure that whatever files it gave me would probably fix up the explorer issue--and now the theme is installed but I still can't resize or use snap on Explorer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running an original Windows 7 (I preordered it) and I've updated all graphic drivers, but whenever I want to close a window, Windows Aero lags for a quick second and closes the window, however whenever I minimize a window, it closes down nicely with the effect. Why is this occurring?
My PC Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
3.5GB Ram
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz
NVIDIA 8400 GS 512MB DDR2
I've updated everything, it gets annoying when it lags when it closes.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI recently upgrade from Vista to W7 ultimate. The upgrade, itself, went fine. Once I got to moving around and learning the nuances of the OS, the screen would shake or waver, then, freeze into a reduced resolution or "fuzzy" state. The Vid card is a NVidia 8400 GS. The OS does not report it as not being compatible. I have to reboot when this happens. It can do this an any given time while moving in and out of programs.
Can this be a refresh rate issue, or.....?
This machine built appox. 1 year ago by a local custom builder began experiencing about 6 months ago unexplained and unexpected BSOD's seemingly unrelated to any particular computer function. Refusing to accept further BSOD's without attempting to correct, I've come here hopefully for final resolution and correction. This system was custom built with Win 7 Home Premium x64 as original software.I ran Memtest86 yesterday with both memory sticks in the two Mobo slots...1 mem stick tested well with 4 passes in each slot. Another mem stick threw 122+ errors in both memory slots early on in the test.Attempting to resolve prior to purchasing new mem sticks, thought I'd submit the BSOD issues to this forum, what seems to be required new memory.

I am currently looking a way to enable Aero in my machine. (as note, currently I am missing the Aero Glass, Aero Peek, and Aero Flip.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the machine. Because my screen is WideScreen, at first the graphics are all large and mushy. But at this point I HAVE AERO!
Then, I installed the driver for the gfx card, which was SIS UniVGA3 v.3.85. After installing and restarting, I get the normal resolution (1280x800) but NO AERO.
I thought this was driver problem, so I downloaded UniVGA5 v5.07, UniVGA5 v5.20 (which is the driver for Windows7, according to the site), and the SiS driver update from Windows Update, all of which didn't enable Aero for me.
I am completely stumped on this. I just don't get why the heck I get Aero WITHOUT driver, but no Aero with drivers.

Mozilla on the main screen and outlook express on the slave screen.Ran the usual clear temp files and ran malwarebyes and superantispyware scans.I am not playing any games or music, just browsing one website (secure) and outlook express, why am I getting resource contention on the Desktop Window Manager?

Every time I start up the laptop the desktop is black, there is no icons, and there is no bar at the bottom of the screen, and also the Libraries Window show up at the start up.
This laptop also did not come with any CD so I don't have an option to reformat do I? I think it maybe a virus but I'm not sure and I don't know what to do about it, when I try to open Mozzila Firefox from that Libraries Window i get a msg saying:
Microsoft Secuity Essential Alert (another window)
Detected items: Unknown Win 32/Trojan
Alert Level: Severe
Reccomendation: Remove
Status: Suspended
I click apply and it says Unable to remove threat then it want me to scan online. but i havnt tried pressing that button...
i get exactly this Desktop-Folder-Window just randomly then and when. It pops up in the middle of the work. It puts itself over the active window. It does not seem to be related to any open software or any particular user action, its really just random...Sometimes it does not happen for a while, and then, however, it starts again. We talk about 1 new Window popping up in 5 minutes or so, sometimes more, sometimes less.

It did not go away till the PC was restarted. This was a Windows 7 pop-up, not a software popup.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhy do I get this?. Desktop Window manager stopped working and was closed? I am using motherboard P4S8X with Windows 7 just install. And 2 gb memory.
It maybe a driver issue with the MOBO or some other device. Try and update the MOBO drivers to start with and see if that does anything. If worse comes to worse, you can do a start repair by booting from the W7 DVD.
I was actually thinking this was more specific to the video driver, as DWM has close ties to it...
