I have a Acer Aspire 5542-1462 laptop, windows 7. One out of every 3 boot-ups the comp. freezes at the desktop with the screen shaking with long colored lines or short lines in a small area of the screen.
View 3 RepliesI've been using my PC fine for the last 3 years. A month or so ago I updated to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. That too has been running fine, then today, after about 3-4 hours of use, in the middle of a game, my PC screen suddenly got weird wavy lines and colours all over it and crashed. Long story short this has now happened about 10 times. Interestingly, I thought it was a graphics card problem, so I tried it on my HD TV (both TV and monitor connected via HDMI) and it did it on the TV too. I then uninstalled the nvidia (8800gt) drivers and restarted my PC. It works fine in safe mode, and in normal mode, but I can't change my resolution to 1680x1050, (it's native resolution) without installing the nvidia drivers.
I don't know if the problem is the drivers, (but never had an issue before?) or with resolution, (monitor problem?) Every time I do install the nvidia drivers the PC restarts normally, screen looks fine, and the PC seems to run, until I click on anything with the mouse and then the wavy lines and weird colours appear again and I can't CTL-ALT-DEL, I have to hard reset it every time. Once I left it for 5 mins. and moved the mouse a little every min. or so and that was OK, but as soon as I click on anything, it freezes and artifacts again. Also, my antivirus flashed red a few times and so did the windows clock in the bottom right corner of the screen, (very odd!) when the PC first starts windows.
That made me think it could be a virus, (even though I'm very careful about what I DL), but I had Avast run through a deep clean check and it found nothing. I also tried to get Win 7 to repair itself, which did nothing either! I've tried reinstalling the drivers, using newer and older nvidia drivers and I've tried to install my HG216 monitor driver, but since it's a few years old there is no official Win 7 support and all I have is an inf. file I can't install on Win 7. I haven't included a dump file, I know a fair amount about computers but I haven't worked out how to do that yet. Also, since I have to hard reboot everytime, in my event view the only errors listed seem to be about 'power failure', so I don't know if the bug or whatever would show up in the dump file?
I just installed my windows 7 ultimate edition and noticed that something was going wrong. Look at the picture below. Look at the color lines.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy mom has a Compaq laptop. It has Windows 7. Yesterday, the screen randomly turned a blue-ish green color. The Google Chrome new tab page is where she first noticed. It's pretty much wherever there should be white, there's that funny color. When I restart it, the white Compaq "Q" logo is green instead of white. The "Starting Windows" text is green and the light inside of the Windows logo is green also.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine. When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd. I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

I have an issue and think noone can solve it. This problem is randomly occured during commonly pc works such as web browsing, gaming, typing in notepad ,etc ; Freezing with Colored Vertical lines.Somtimes this ballon appears with such a message like "Display driver has stopped working and has been recovered".

A few minutes later, all of a sudden, the monitor screen is filled with colored vertical and horizontal lines...and nothing is working nor is there anything else on the screen but the lines. Manually, shut down and rebooted. Opened with options on how to continue. I chose Normal Mode. Computer and screen now working as they should for the last hour.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently built my own desktop. Not my first build but a relatively new builder. Everytime I am on it it freezes up and restarts itself and goes into the black windows recovery screen. My new build was fine and now all of a sudden I am having this issue.

In the last few days my Toshiba Satellite L745-S43210 hasn't been working right. Recently it won't boot up properly. It started to boot up and then it would freeze up seconds after showing my desktop. I managed to go into safe mode and use msconfig to change start up programs and turn it to only the essential items. After that it worked and I tried turning everything back on and it worked fine last night. I assumed it was just overheating from being used so much in the last few days. Now today when I tried starting it up I was able to enter my password but the screen went black with my mouse pointer working. I turned it off and tried again a few times before going into safe mode.
I went back into msconfig again and turned it back to only essential programs and I performed a virus scan with Super Anti-Spyware and Malware Bytes and the only thing that they found were cookies. I cleared them out and booted up windows again and it worked fine. Now I am trying to select only certain programs and choose only the Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba programs/services and now when I boot it up I don't even get the the text box to enter my password, it just shows the blue windows start up screen. Right now I am using Safe Mode With Networking to type this and try messing with start up programs again.
am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Aspire, Intel i5-2430M 2.4 GHZ, 64 bit Operating System. We only bought this at the end of December, 2011! When I am on Blogger, I haven't noticed it otherwise, when I move my mouse, sometimes the whole screen goes patchwork. There are squares of yellow, green and orange covering the screen, except for the address bar. (I attached a picture) I can navigate to a new address and it goes away. I am just a bit concerned there is a virus. I have run a full scan with Super Anti Spyware and I quite regularly use Crap Cleaner.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen my computer finishes starting up, it ends with what looks like blobs of colored pixels in a line at the top of my screen. This happened for the first time tonight and I have no clue what happened. I took out my video card and plugged my monitor into the mother boards vga slot. Same result. Then i used a HDMI cable from my monitor to my motherboards HDMI slot. Still, with the same result. I plugged my Xbox 360 up to monitor with the HDMI cable and it looks fine so it's not on the monitor's end.
When the computer is loading, the screen stays black. Then when my desktop would normally show is when the pixels show up and the rest of the screen is black.

the screen going on the fritz only when playing a video. i have not tried playing a video on vlc or wmp to test this but it seems almost every time a video pops up on a website, or if i go to Internet, my screen goes crazy.per the other thread, i swept my old drivers and re-installed the newest (which was 12.9 beta) and everything is ok, cept these videos. to fix it, i have once or twice gotten lucky and been able to hit escape and it goes back to normal. otherwise, i have to hit the power button and make it go into sleep/lock mode. i have a second monitor hooked up and it doesn't do what monitor one does, which is very odd.card is xfx radeon r7770 ultra overclocked black edition (factory overclocked)p.s. tried to use the uploader for pic and it wasn't working for me at all. tried to use imgur also, said it was down for maint.

When I go into task manager it says that they are continually running and I need to end task. This still won't allow me to access them. It also happens on folders from a USB stick or when I go into computer with start main menus also. I am pretty sure it is Windows 7 I am using.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a used Samsung Series 3 Laptop and had an issue with the keyboard not working properly. While reinstalling some drivers the computer re-started itself and then proceeded to freeze on the "starting windows" screen. I tried to run the windows repair option, it boots into a green background which says'please wait'...well I waited and waited and nothing happened so I kept retrying it. Eventually I left this on for a half hour or so and it actually finally went into the windows repair option!
I chose to re install windows from the partition and thought everything was fine, it went through the downloading and installing of those files and restarted, froze on the 'Starting windows" screen. I left it there for 40 mins plus, thinking maybe it just needed time, the only thing it did was reset itself after 30 or so minutes and froze again. I tried going into Bios and resetting the defaults, I don't even care about the keyboard not working anymore, I just want to get the computer functioning again!

> shutdown /r /f /t 1 . And upon the reboot, all I get is a black screen, no cursor, with ~4 rows of rainbow, garbled pixels at the very top of the monitor (certain pixels occasionally change colours). This occurs before the windows splash screen. I have left the computer as is, hoping it will eventually boot on its own with no luck. This was just a routine check. Some more information, I dual-boot with Ubuntu. I can mount and access the windows partition from Ubuntu, and I even ran ntfsfix in Ubuntu (which has some analogous functionality to chkdsk), but it didn't notice any problems.
My laptop freezes on the welcome screen, windows7 home premium. Start up menu does not work in any safe mode. Would it be in my best interest to restore to out-of- box status?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with this laptop after changing out the ram. It's a Lenovo 3000n100, running Windows 7 32bit. ( I upgraded from Vista.)
It originally came with 1GB ram, I increased it to 2 GB. It shows in the bios as 2 and also in belarc.
After changing out the ram, about every other time I start it up, when it gets to the logon screen, the pointer is frozen. I can log in, and on the desktop it's also frozen, so I have to use the win key and arrows to restart then it starts up normally. Once in a while, when it get to the logon screen, it's just black and then I have to do a hard shut down.
I changed the ram sticks around, made sure they are seated properly and I still have this problem.
Before buying the ram, I ran the crucial advisor and bought [URL] Crucial 2GB Set(2x1GB) 200-Pin PC2 5300 667Mhz SODIMM DDR2 RAM: Electronics IRC, I didn't have this problem with the original ram 512x2. Not even sure if it's a ram problem or not, but I haven't been able to figure out what's going on.
I have also checked the intel drivers and they are up to date.
i did try every single option to fix my laptop ,even safe mode is not working and also i cant reboot , because nothing comes up, just freezed starting up screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is the right section to post this but, ever since I reformatted my laptop, it randomly freezes for about a second and a stuttering noise comes up. Then the screen turns black. It doesn't shut off because I could see the back light, it just turns completely black. What's causing this problem and how do I fix it? I checked the Event Logger and there are tons of errors and some critical kernal-power things.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to upgrade from 32-bit Vista Home Premium to Windows 7. I used the 32-bit disk to avoid having to do a full clean install, but every time (4 tries so far) that I've done it, it will get to the last portion of the upgrade where it transfers over all the old documents and programs. At that point the screen turns into a weird pattern of diagonal lines. Sometimes they are white and blue lines 1 inch thick, other times they are really thin lines. The machine is fairly new and high-end for a Vista machine, so the graphics card should be perfectly. I've run the Upgrade Advisor and it only mentions a couple software issues such as iTunes which I can't see as prohibiting the upgrade.

Theres nothing else on the screen, i have to reboot the laptop and then it starts up fine. laptop was running Vista and it happened then aswell. It can happen while playing vdeos or just surfing the net.
