For the past day random lines have been appearing on my desktop. The following picture is not my laptop but I found this image and its the same thing that happens on my computer. The lines appear in different spots each time and will stay for a short amount of time.
[code]...
I don't have the model on me now, but recently I worked on a Compaq Desktop computer. At random times (could be any program open), it would go to a grey screen with weird horizontal lines. I upgraded the video drivers, ran a video stress test and it went over 2 hours with no problems.
The customer just reported to me that it happened again so I am thinking that maybe it is a faulty motherboard (video built onto motherboard). What do you guys think? I didn't wanna give the customer the run around saying "Let's try 1) putting in a new video card then 2) lets try reformatting and lastly 3) lets replace the motherboard)"
I've got a scan lines (horizontal) going up as if It's scanning a paper!?This only occurs when playing (all) games without VSYNC. Leaving VSYNC on solves the problem but I'm more used to play on higher framerate. Movements feel very slow when leaving it on (especially on FPS games). I've taken screenshots but it's not visible. Also there's something fishy going on:
Additional info:
-my graphics card is not overlocked
-Not overheating when leaving vsync off (remains below 60C)
-I'm using the official MSI drivers for my MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr OC edition (ForceWare 280.26)
-Using VGA cable with a DVI adapter for my graphics card
Here's the exact problem I've found on the internet: Getting Scan Lines in High End Gaming on GTX 560
I start up my computer, the bios runs as normal detecting drives etc. then it gets to "loading operating system..", from here it either stays that way or changes to a screen with horizontal blue lines and if you wait a little longer still, other colored lines appear aside these blue lines. This all happens at the top of the monitor.I have tried to restart my PC several times and the same thing happens with these lines. I have also tried changing monitors, unplugging all inputs. Nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have horizontal lines that scan my monitor whenever i play a game. I can see the horizontal lines only on darker colors like grey, dark-green etc. I have a Samsung E2220 display that runs at 1080p on 60hz on a vga cable (no hdmi/dvi support on it). I tried another vga cable, i tried another power cable but with the same result.I have all drivers updated (monitor and other hardware). My current PC specs are: AsRock N68-C S UCC, Phenom II x4, 4Gb DDR3, Radeon HD7770, 500gb HDD Sata3 and a power supply Sirtec 500W 80+.If I open Far Cry 3, for example, i get those horizontal lines. If i minimize the game i still get the horizontal lines if i have something dark on my display (a grey/dark-green/dark-blue website). Before the HD7770 i had a GTS 450 and had the same problems. Could it be the PSU, or the motherboard or what? I also tried a different display monitor (on the VGA) and had the same horizontal lines scaning my display monitor.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Monitor model # 1908fwpt and we have used it as an external for a few laptops now, and on the last two hook-ups it has constant, non-flickering white horizontal lines across the screen. The only resolution that doesn't is 1280x1024 for some reason. I have changed the cables, used both VGA and DVI, and run the self-diagnostics and updated all drivers. I have chased this issue up and down and not been able to come up with a way to fix it. The monitor is not old, it hasn't been used very much, and I really don't want to replace it...
Since its done it on a few different computers I tend to think its not a driver issue, or a cable issue... And the one resolution it works on is all stretched out and flat.
OK, just woke computer up from "sleep," and everything is working fine. A few minutes later, all of a sudden, the monitor screen is filled with colored vertical and horizontal lines...and nothing is working nor is there anything else on the screen but the lines. Manually, shut down and rebooted. Opened with options on how to continue. I chose Normal Mode. Computer and screen now working as they should for the last hour.

Every once in a while the entire screen will seem to dim as if you were looking through a cloud. I suspect it is some Aero effect, but I would like to know why it does that as it can happen when I am not using eithre the mouse or the keyboard. It seemingly just does it on its own. It only lasts a second or two.
I have purchased HP Laptop HP630 in Oct 2011. Four gray lines showing in my laptop. repair/ remove the lines.
View 1 Replies View Relatedno matter what i'm viewing, be it a video on Internet/dailymotion/vimeo/wherever or anything on vlc, the second i go full screen i notice horizontal screen tearing across the entire screen. i managed to lessen it to an extent on vlc by switching to directx output, but it still pops up on Internet videos etc.have also just started to notice it on non full screen videos.if it makes a difference it's around 2/3 of the way up the screen on online vids and 90% of the way up on vlc.i know this problem is going to be hard to pinpoint since it could be any number of things, but i have the feeling this is all because i have a setting too high/low somewhere.

When I started my PC this morning, it went on to the blue welcome screen and then suddenly a gray-black screen appears and stays there for a long time. eventually, multiple instances of the same error message pop up with multiple processes:the instruction at 0x referenced memory at 0x. The required data was not placed into memory because I/o error....Upon restarting, I've tried safe mode, repair, last config etc. to no avail. Windows also tries to check c: for errors sometimes, but it just hangs saying some unexpected error was found.

A month ago, I've started seeing those blinking horizontal lines on my screen. Almost half of my screen is affected. I wonder if it is a problem with my video card or just some viruses. Well when I print screen, the lines are not showing. The same as when I connect my netbook to a projector

View 9 Replies View RelatedSince a couple of weeks, I have a problem with my laptop screen. From time to time, suddenly, everything on the screen disappears and I get a screen with only white and grey lines (see picture attached). When this happens, I can't use the laptop anymore and I have to shutdown by pressing the power button. On some days, I have no problems, on other days, this happens several times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my computer. I just restarted it, and it ended up booting with purple/blue lines all over the screen.
So the first thing i did was go into device manager. All it told me was a caution symbol next to my NVIDIA geForce 8500 GT. so i downloaded and reinstalled the drivers for it. No effect.
Then i booted into safe mode to find if it was a motherboard issue. The lines remained.
I recently made a thread on this forum talking about how my new PC setup has suddenly started creating lines on my screen
Link: Wavy lines across screen, (usually grey-ish colours) on new setup.
After trying a full list of things; 2 different monitors 2 different VGA cables 3 different mice 3 different keyboards change power supply change graphics card used onboard graphics switched ram sticks and removed one at a time reformatted a dozen of times unplugged all sound from computer checked motherboard for any visual problems and couldn't see any updated all drivers I could possibly think of Ran Memtest for 7 passes with no errors I've finally found out the problem and that was when I connected my graphics card using HDMI to a HDMI compatable monitor it worked fine and I had no more lines!
So it seems that using HDMI is working fine but soon as I use a VGA cable its not working and the lines are back. It only confused me more when I connected a VGA cable from another computer to the monitor it all worked fine.
As far as I can tell it's something to do with my computers VGA/HDMI settings, I've tried onboard VGA and that still didn't work so it doesn't seem to be a graphics card problem just something is stopping VGA working properly but HDMI is working.
I'm gonna have to go buy an expensive new monitor with HDMI compatability.
Alienware PC will not boot up has white lines accross the screen. Running windows 7
View 3 Replies View RelatedI built up a PC a couple of months ago. It has an ok spec, Phenom II 550 x2, NVidia GTX 250, 4b ram, 500gig HD, 620w PSU. Windows 7 Eval. 7100.
From the first couple of days I noticed an issue that looked like incorrectly setup refresh rates - there are wavy lines accross the entire screen, and is particularly noticeable on highlighted text and the side edges of windows. I made sure the frame rate was correct, both in Windows and according to the GFX Card. I have tried all the settings but have settled at 75hz. This is the best setting but does not get rid of the problem.
I have the most up to date drivers for my GFX Card and Windows 7 is up to date too.
The intensity of the problem can fluctuate. Right now, its fairly minimal and only visable if you are looking. It can however get to the point where its becoming hard to read text, or at least tiring because you have to strain some more. This can happen at any time. The only link I have found is to games, as both World of Warcraft and Borderlands will intensify the isse, both ingame and in Windows. I am fairly sure they are set at the correct resolution and refresh rate where possible.
What could this be?
Further info, three weeks ago I turned the PC on in the morning to find the 'power' button unresponsive. After some waiting and several attempts it eventually turned on but I got a 'no signal' display on screen. Later I resorted to jump starting the PC without the power button, using a screwdriver to connect the prongs - after doing this, the power button has been fine although it took another day for the no signal message to go away and normal viewing return. This problem has not repeated since.
During this the fans were fluctuating a lot, audibly so. This dissapeared mostly along with the above problems, but I still think it sounds like the fans are fluctuating infrequently, particularly on initial bootup. I have no software for changing fan speeds, as far as they know they run at the speed I set physically.
A lot of this seems to point at the GFX Card, although I am a little more inclined to think it is the power supply, or the availability of power for each unit. But I really don't know. Either I can find the solution online or I take it to the shop and pay for a repair, not that its easy to even tell them what they need to repair.
The PC runs fast and with relatively few crashes besides that one weekend and this persistant display problem.
ok almost 2 months ago my computer blinked came back on and said a display driver had crashed ans was succsesfully recovered, well from then on out my screen was weird looking with lines ,text would dissapear ,and it was like this for a long time,so the other day my screen blinked and when it came back on my whole screen was multi colored and i could not see my desktop at all, now i read that it was probably just my video card going out so i uninstalled it thinking that .and it did,,for about 10 minutes and it did it again..i know i dont want to hear windows registery error cause i have alot on my comp that i would have to have saved and i shiver at the thought of the price of that...i mean i cannot see anything at all just alot of colors in small thin lines,.this is a home built comp, but it was made by someone who has been makeing comps for years so he knows what he is doing...
View 5 Replies View Relatedhorizontal faint lines when in full screen games. using d3doverider(bundled with rivatuner) calms it alot and makes it dissapear in alot of games. I upgraded from my 5870 which was fine to my new ATI 6990. tested it on several screens and it makes no difference. So V-Sync and triple buffer has a positive effect on calming it. Often have to force it with third party softwarerar a milder version of this that is harder to see.i'm convinced it's to do with the graphics card being too fast or ''too good' for the screen and the image somehow can't keep up which causes the lines. was thinking about getting a 100hz refresh rate. The Card is brand new and works(with lines ) anyone know any work arounds like other cables that work like
