suddenly the grey lines engulfed 2-3rd of the screen of my laptop.. I had replaced replaced window vista with window 7 .Now i dnt know how to cope up this problem.

From time to time, suddenly, everything on the screen disappears and I get a screen with only white and grey lines (see picture attached). When this happens, I can't use the laptop anymore and I have to shutdown by pressing the power button. On some days, I have no problems, on other days, this happens several times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't have the model on me now, but recently I worked on a Compaq Desktop computer. At random times (could be any program open), it would go to a grey screen with weird horizontal lines. I upgraded the video drivers, ran a video stress test and it went over 2 hours with no problems.
The customer just reported to me that it happened again so I am thinking that maybe it is a faulty motherboard (video built onto motherboard). What do you guys think? I didn't wanna give the customer the run around saying "Let's try 1) putting in a new video card then 2) lets try reformatting and lastly 3) lets replace the motherboard)"
When I was using the computer just now, the screen just randomly blanked out and showed grey lines instead! I couldn't do anything with the machine, so I switched it off at the wall and restarted it. After a few minutes, the same thing happened again!
I changed the monitor for a spare one, and after about 20 minutes, the same thing happened!
My graphics card is brand new, so it shouldn't be that!
Up until the other day, I've been using my MSI Wind u230 netbook / Radeon HD 3200 to output to my monitor (Acer S243HL - only has 1x DVI and 2x HDMI inputs) and then occasionally swap to a Westinghouse 32" TV.The other day: I was using my monitor then swapped to the tv, and then returned to my room to connect to the monitor and it just won't work. (To note, I've been using Win key + P to set projector only and to disconnect projector before unplugging the HDMI cable.)The netbook screen will turn itself off (as if it detects the HDMI-out) but the screen or TV will just show "No signal."I tried a shorter HDMI cable, tried the other input on the monitor, still nothing. Strangely enough, checking the displays in Catalyst or the Screen Resolution properties, it can detect both the TV and the monitor. There's just no signal coming out.Even stranger: trying to connect another laptop to the monitor (which used to work) displays "No signal" too.

It wont let me play command and conquer 3 even though it appears that it should be able to.
- Win 7 RC 7100 32 bit does not load the correct graphics card driver and even the boot menu is not displayed correctly (fuzzy black screen, issue known from Ubuntu installations where it was solved by adapting boot loader specifications…) I do know however, that the boot menu is loaded correctly as “arrow down” + “enter” starts XP without any issues.
Win 7 is somewhat loaded, when hitting “enter” only in what I think must be the boot menue. Harddrive gets active and for 5 secons I even get a “black screen in normal resolution” with the arrow displayed correctly. Then unfortunately returning to fuzzy mode.
Questions:
- How to boot Win 7 in vga or graphics modus being blinded? When hitting F8 hard drive reacts differently, but how then to select the right boot option without seeing anything?
- Is there an option to install a different graphics card driver into win 7 via the working XP?
- Is there an option to modify the boot menu’s options via working XP, e.g., setting to vga modus (that did the trick for Ubuntu).
- Any experience with Radeon Mobility 9600 (MV350) under Win 7?
I recently updated my windows 7 through Windows Updates, it shows Win7 SP1 in device manager, as soon as i restart my computer after the welcome screen it shows me a grey screen for about 5 mins and shows me the account name that it shouldn't show as there's only one user account, i don't know what to do, please help me, I am on i5 2400, ASUS H61 M-LX, Corsair 4X2 GB DD3 1333 9-9-9-24, Win 7 32bit..

I keep getting this weird grey box that's open in my programs list (when I hit Alt+Tab), but not an application on Task Manager. It doesn't show up on my desktop until I use Alt+Tab to switch to it (here is the image I see from that), when it appears on my desktop and doesn't disappear (see this screenshot). It won't let me click on it; refreshing the desktop doesn't get rid of it either. I tried closing a couple processes on Task Manager, but couldn't figure out what it was.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased an Acer Veriton X275 with Windows 7 Professional and I am experiencing a nuisance issue.The screen background changes from near white to grey either, after a time lapse or on depression of keyboard key.This can be temporarily rectified by switching the monitor off and then on and, occasionally, by depressing Ctrl/Alt/Del, entering Task Manager and then cancelling.It seems as though a screen energy saver is operating but I am unable to locate it to extend the period before it cuts in.

Anyway, last time I brought it in for repairs they checked the motherboard and RAM- it was all fine, and they replaced my hard drive.For the past month or so, my computer will freeze or hang while I'm in the middle of working on something. I'm a photographer and it usually happens when photoshop is left sitting open for a few minutes. Firefox will freeze and so will PS and Bridge.When it freezes, nothing works. Ctrl+alt+delete will work to open the task manager, but it won't actually end any tasks when I try. I am forced to hold the power button down to shut it off. About 3 days ago I got a message upon start up saying that I needed to check disk but immediately said that it couldn't check disk due to a corruption? Stating that a recently installed software was the problem and I needed to do a system restore. I tried to do a system restore to before I installed my machforms update and it wouldn't let me! Stated that the c drive is corrupt and I need to do a check disk. So it's sending me in a circle and I can't complete either. Today, when I booted I received a lovely grey screen. This happened about 7 times before it booted normally. I tried to boot in safe mode but it froze.

The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. View 7 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday I've noticed that whenever I access a page with grey and white colors (Hotmail, Messenger, Latest news, Sport, Music, Movies, Money and Cars from MSN UK this one is the only one so far) some lines appear and they blink, this does not happen in white or black backgrounds, I've tried removing video drivers (when these were uninstalled there were no lines, but when I installed them back again the lines came back too ), doing a flash player clean install and restarted in safe mode (when in safe mode the lines did not appear) ,My GPU is a RADEON HD 6850, and I've tried with an old driver and with a new one but no ; I don't have any other PCs so I cannot try the monitor in another one unfortunately?
View 9 Replies View RelatedLaptop is connected to wifi but still shows yellow star and grey bars? Title says it all. I've reinstall the drivers, changed the settings in the registry editor that someone on another forum suggested, delete all the wifi accounts and rebooted the computer. No errors in device manager, the Windows wifi connection software is the only one running. Internet is working but it wont allow me to setup a vpn. I've rebooted everything.
I just noticed that no matter what wireless network I connect to it still does this. Also, I connected to a wireless network that this laptop never connects to and it never asks what kind of network it is. It just sets it as a public network. My other laptop connects to both fine.
I just installed my windows 7 ultimate edition and noticed that something was going wrong. Look at the picture below. Look at the color lines.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to upgrade from 32-bit Vista Home Premium to Windows 7. I used the 32-bit disk to avoid having to do a full clean install, but every time (4 tries so far) that I've done it, it will get to the last portion of the upgrade where it transfers over all the old documents and programs. At that point the screen turns into a weird pattern of diagonal lines. Sometimes they are white and blue lines 1 inch thick, other times they are really thin lines. The machine is fairly new and high-end for a Vista machine, so the graphics card should be perfectly. I've run the Upgrade Advisor and it only mentions a couple software issues such as iTunes which I can't see as prohibiting the upgrade.

Theres nothing else on the screen, i have to reboot the laptop and then it starts up fine. laptop was running Vista and it happened then aswell. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my computer. I just restarted it, and it ended up booting with purple/blue lines all over the screen.
So the first thing i did was go into device manager. All it told me was a caution symbol next to my NVIDIA geForce 8500 GT. so i downloaded and reinstalled the drivers for it. No effect.
Then i booted into safe mode to find if it was a motherboard issue. The lines remained.

After trying a full list of things; 2 different monitors 2 different VGA cables 3 different mice 3 different keyboards change power supply change graphics card used onboard graphics switched ram sticks and removed one at a time reformatted a dozen of times unplugged all sound from computer checked motherboard for any visual problems and couldn't see any updated all drivers I could possibly think of Ran Memtest for 7 passes with no errors I've finally found out the problem and that was when I connected my graphics card using HDMI to a HDMI compatable monitor it worked fine and I had no more lines!
So it seems that using HDMI is working fine but soon as I use a VGA cable its not working and the lines are back. It only confused me more when I connected a VGA cable from another computer to the monitor it all worked fine.
As far as I can tell it's something to do with my computers VGA/HDMI settings, I've tried onboard VGA and that still didn't work so it doesn't seem to be a graphics card problem just something is stopping VGA working properly but HDMI is working.
I'm gonna have to go buy an expensive new monitor with HDMI compatability.
I keep getting what seems like static line horizontally across my screen I just bought this laptop a couple months ago?
