My computer has been acting strange upon start up. It takes a little longer than usuall to show my accounts and once I click them it also takes a bit longer. When the home screen finally comes on its a gray screen. This screen lasts for almost 30 seconds. Is this something I need to be concerned about?
View 1 RepliesI have a desktop, custom built, that has been a nightmare since day one. Anyway, last time I brought it in for repairs they checked the motherboard and RAM- it was all fine, and they replaced my hard drive.For the past month or so, my computer will freeze or hang while I'm in the middle of working on something. I'm a photographer and it usually happens when photoshop is left sitting open for a few minutes. Firefox will freeze and so will PS and Bridge.When it freezes, nothing works. Ctrl+alt+delete will work to open the task manager, but it won't actually end any tasks when I try. I am forced to hold the power button down to shut it off. About 3 days ago I got a message upon start up saying that I needed to check disk but immediately said that it couldn't check disk due to a corruption? Stating that a recently installed software was the problem and I needed to do a system restore. I tried to do a system restore to before I installed my machforms update and it wouldn't let me! Stated that the c drive is corrupt and I need to do a check disk. So it's sending me in a circle and I can't complete either. Today, when I booted I received a lovely grey screen. This happened about 7 times before it booted normally. I tried to boot in safe mode but it froze.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLaptop is connected to wifi but still shows yellow star and grey bars? Title says it all. I've reinstall the drivers, changed the settings in the registry editor that someone on another forum suggested, delete all the wifi accounts and rebooted the computer. No errors in device manager, the Windows wifi connection software is the only one running. Internet is working but it wont allow me to setup a vpn. I've rebooted everything.
I just noticed that no matter what wireless network I connect to it still does this. Also, I connected to a wireless network that this laptop never connects to and it never asks what kind of network it is. It just sets it as a public network. My other laptop connects to both fine.

After a while it started freezing all the time so I decided to clean it up. It had tons of dust that I removed and I even applied thermal paste MX3 to the processor. Everything went well for a few months but now the freezing has restarted. Basically, I turn it on and it freezes while doing small stuff like opening firefox or steam whithin a minutes.
Normally the screen goes black but the lights in the tower stay on and the fans keep working. I have to manually reboot and then it just works normally with no more freezings. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 logged in as an administrator account, but not the main administrator account. I keep getting this weird grey box that's open in my programs list (when I hit Alt+Tab), but not an application on Task Manager. It doesn't show up on my desktop until I use Alt+Tab to switch to it (here is the image I see from that), when it appears on my desktop and doesn't disappear (see this screenshot). It won't let me click on it; refreshing the desktop doesn't get rid of it either. I tried closing a couple processes on Task Manager, but couldn't figure out what it was.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased an Acer Veriton X275 with Windows 7 Professional and I am experiencing a nuisance issue.The screen background changes from near white to grey either, after a time lapse or on depression of keyboard key.This can be temporarily rectified by switching the monitor off and then on and, occasionally, by depressing Ctrl/Alt/Del, entering Task Manager and then cancelling.It seems as though a screen energy saver is operating but I am unable to locate it to extend the period before it cuts in.

From time to time, suddenly, everything on the screen disappears and I get a screen with only white and grey lines (see picture attached). When this happens, I can't use the laptop anymore and I have to shutdown by pressing the power button. On some days, I have no problems, on other days, this happens several times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a new graphics card thinking my old ati radeon 4670 was the problem ( now have geforce GTs 450) and then bought a new 2tb Seagate drive thinking I would just try a new install of windows 7 In case it was a driver/virus etc. issue( didn't want to lose my old partition in case it wasn't )It's only on normal startup, safe mode doesn't give me any problems so I'm at a loss here, I think it may be either a psu or maybe bad memory.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't have the model on me now, but recently I worked on a Compaq Desktop computer. At random times (could be any program open), it would go to a grey screen with weird horizontal lines. I upgraded the video drivers, ran a video stress test and it went over 2 hours with no problems.
The customer just reported to me that it happened again so I am thinking that maybe it is a faulty motherboard (video built onto motherboard). What do you guys think? I didn't wanna give the customer the run around saying "Let's try 1) putting in a new video card then 2) lets try reformatting and lastly 3) lets replace the motherboard)"
When I was using the computer just now, the screen just randomly blanked out and showed grey lines instead! I couldn't do anything with the machine, so I switched it off at the wall and restarted it. After a few minutes, the same thing happened again!
I changed the monitor for a spare one, and after about 20 minutes, the same thing happened!
My graphics card is brand new, so it shouldn't be that!
My netbook froze on friday night. Try to restart, but was stuck at grey screen. It has asus logo and eee pc written. The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. I prefer to do this by myself.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual.It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever.
View 4 Replies View Relatedstarted recently, when I boot my PC, the screen shows message: no signal and screen stays dark.However, in the background W-7 is loading, but in order to get the video functioning, I must restart the PC, turn off the screen, wait till W-7 loads somewhat and (like after 10 sec.) turn the screen on and everything is OK.Monitor is NEW Video card too, I tried with a second one, same problem...My question is, is this W-7, main board, or something else related?

That's the only thing I did.Now when it gets to the login screen, nothing shows up. Just the cursor, the Ease of Access button, and the Shutdown button. No choosing users, no entering passwords, nothing. Which means I cannot log into any accounts. All I can do is shut it down or restart the computer.I'd also turned off system restore a while back because of an infection there, but forgot to turn it back on and so I have no way to roll the computer back.I tried hitting F8 and telling it to boot normally, but it continued through Safe Mode, so no luck there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with the settings trying to get a more clear pricutre, and now the desktop doesn't show any icons, no menu bar, and the background is partially cut out all around (like it's stretched to the original picture size). When I use ctrl alt delete the tv just goes black.The main problem is I can't use the main screen to adjust anything because my friend cracked it bad enough to where I can't make anything out.I have no problems using my friend's 40" tv, so I tried adjusting the resolution to a smaller size, but when I plug it back into the smaller tv it still doesn't work.I think this started happening when I changed some stuff in Asus Utilities Extended Desktop, but disabling that doesn't work.

when I turn on my computer, or bring it back from sleep mode, there are two of the same account. Basically it shows the user boxes with the same name twice, (both with the same password, picture, etc.) It's not really a problem, just kind of annoying to me for some reason.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn startup, the Windows desktop shows up, but after a few seconds the screen went blue, with no text of any kind. When I turned my computer on and off manually, I get a black screen that asks me if I want to go into safe mode. It says to use the arrows keys and press enter to choose which mode to go into, but the keyboard is unresponsive at this screen.
What do I do? How do I get into safe mode? Do I need to bring my computer in to the computer repair shop?

I was trying to setup a laptop to HDTV through mini hdmi/hdmi cable, i was having problems setting the screen up on the HDTV, in several occasion my computer would freeze (no mouse pointer), so i restarted a couple times, now, everytime i restart my computer, i get stuck with a screen that only contains my desktop background. (no mouse pointer, no task bar, no files/programs that are supposed to be on the desktop) I am having a presentation tomorrow, please please please help me out to save me!! btw, i tried to start in safe mode, everything seems fine, but when i start it normally, the problem occurs again .
