View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a long vertical line (about 4 times the length of the text cursor and about 3/8" to the right of the text cursor) in fields that I would normally enter text. I have tried all of the control panel settings that I think would affect the cursor like themes and mouse pointer settings. This is my wife's computer and she told me that it started doing that a few weeks ago. I am not aware of any new programs except the usual Windows updates and anti-virus updates.

I just installed windows 7 64bit and have been further installing anti-malware and essential programs and drivers but have not finished (I still have unrecognized devices and am mostly using whatever drivers that Windows found on its own.
Every once in a while the entire screen will seem to dim as if you were looking through a cloud. I suspect it is some Aero effect, but I would like to know why it does that as it can happen when I am not using eithre the mouse or the keyboard. It seemingly just does it on its own. It only lasts a second or two.
There was a quick power outage and the computer was forced off. I rebooted and now after the windows logo there is a gray screen that remains a very long period of time before the desktop appears. I am able to move the mouse but that is the only functionality I have.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing a strange problem all of a sudden. When I started my PC this morning, it went on to the blue welcome screen and then suddenly a gray-black screen appears and stays there for a long time. eventually, multiple instances of the same error message pop up with multiple processes:the instruction at 0x referenced memory at 0x. The required data was not placed into memory because I/o error....Upon restarting, I've tried safe mode, repair, last config etc. to no avail. Windows also tries to check c: for errors sometimes, but it just hangs saying some unexpected error was found.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy mom has a Compaq laptop. It has Windows 7. Yesterday, the screen randomly turned a blue-ish green color. The Google Chrome new tab page is where she first noticed. It's pretty much wherever there should be white, there's that funny color. When I restart it, the white Compaq "Q" logo is green instead of white. The "Starting Windows" text is green and the light inside of the Windows logo is green also.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk I am at my wits end with this computer. I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 from a thumb drive, I have used this thumb drive for several successful installs, including one after my issue just to make sure it wasn't corrupt.
PC details Foxconn A74ML-k Motherboard with a Dual Core Amd proccessor, sorry cant find the model off hand. using on board graphics card, and a Western Digital WD6401AALS hard drive and 2 gigs of gskill ram.
This PC was running windows vista just fine before I attempted to Install Windows 7, I have tried to install Windows twice, once with the usb drive and once with a dvd disc both end results are the same. The install will go perfectly smooth, all the way til the final reboot. Once the actual install is complete when it try to first boot all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor, I cant seem to enter safe mode.
I have searched and while it seems many have run into similar issues is usually due to things such as dual monitor set ups etc. All I have connected is a mouse, monitor, and keyboard. Microsoft lists the motherboard as compatible, I have reset the bios, tried a different hard drive, ubuntu live works just fine, the file system is there. I even pulled the hard drive out of my laptop and plugged it into the pc and I get the same result. Also I tried windows start up repair from the discs, it found no issues.
I would like to know if its possible (and how to do it if so) to justify a paragraph of text in Word 2007 to gradually get narrower. What I mean is, id like the first line of text to be longer than the one after and so on until I end up with something like this,I want the 2nd line to start further to right of first line and end closer to left and so on. Im struggling to show an example but hope you know what I mean. Basically centre justified but going down in a V shape
View 1 Replies View Relatedafter one day of upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 yesterday, my computer's screen saver stopped and had this weird colored line across the top of my laptops monitor...I restarted and right after the boot up screen it shoots the color line across the top of the screen. No matter what I do it just ends with the line at the top. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW285J laptop. The thing ran amazing until just a little while ago. I've read that it might be my graphics card, but if that's the case then why does it show the windows 7 setup stuff when I try to reinstall windows 7. I'd dona clean install to see if my problem is fixed (though I doubt it), but I'm afraid of it resulting in my wifi and LAN not working. url...
View 5 Replies View Relatedi've gone to microsoft for help with this issue, been to several tech forums, and even sent a request for help to adobe flash player for help but i have had absolutely no luck.
basically this is my problem...i am a student and i just upgraded my gateway laptop to windows 7 home premium x64-bit for that $30 deal. everything is running perfectly except my on-line videos.
every single time i click on "full screen" to maximize the video size i start having sound distortion after about 30 or 40 seconds. i've checked and it's not my browser (i've tried it with firefox and ie). i went to upgrade my sound driver but i got a message saying that my driver is already up-to-date. i also thought that the problem might be the flash player but i checked on that too and it was also up-to-date.
the best way that i can describe the distortion is that i have this sound that makes all of the noise in the video sound like everything is cracking up under water. hope that makes sense. oh, and to make things even worse...i don't have this problem on Internet. i don't know if Internet formats their videos in a certain way but i can put videos on full screen without the sound distortion. if you'd like an example of the type of videos i'm talking about go to msn.com and look at the tiny little video that they always have on the left side titled "video highlights".
any help would be greatly appreciated...i really don't know what to do. i have a small bit of understanding of computers but i'm not that tech savvy.
my desktop screen suddenly has a 3 inch vertical black line which splits the screen in two and makes it impossible to move the cursor from the right side to the left.

There is a gray box appearing at the top of the desktop over top of the desktop icons. It is about 2" x 3", solid gray, with nothing on it (no text or buttons). It doesn't appear when windows first starts, and the only way to get rid of it is to restart the computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMaybe this has something to do with the last round of updates. There are now transparent gray x's on the corners of the documents on my desktoop. They are on both .docx and Wordpad documents. I opened one of the documemts and it opened find but I cannot understand the purpose of these odd gray x's.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving a bit of a problem with my taskbar. Its looking kinda strange. That is, it has changed from the theme colour to a grey colour and the graphics have become basic. It looks like the taskbar from something like Windows '98, to be honest. Also, the actual windows that programs open in are also a grey/white colour, like the taskbar. I'm not really all that computer smart. My PC is an ACER Aspire5738Z.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is one of those things that could be worded in so many ways, there may be a solution out there but I have no idea what phrasing may have been used in such a case. Basically, I recently switched to using a vertical taskbar on the left side, more workable area on widescreen monitors. I love it so far, except for the change in system tray behavior. They're doubled up, which is fine, but if I have an odd number of icons it disturbs my general arrangement. This is hugely annoying for me as I frequently use the system tray to open multiple applications I always have open in the background, such as IRC or AIM.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI took some cell phone videos in the portrait position recently which translates to showing only in the horizontal position in MM or whatever editing software I have. Unlike pics, I can't find a plug in or software that will let me flip it from that horizontal to vertical (portrait) position.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy browser recently glitched out, now when I click anywhere in my browser, the vertical | bar that's supposed to appear when you click something such as a search bar pops up. How would I fix this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith widescreen monitors, which are pretty much the standard these days, there is always plenty of horizontal space, it's the vertical space that is at more of a premium. To take advantage of this I've done 2 things - First, I moved my taskbar to the left side of the screen, this gives me that much more vertical space in all programs.
The second thing is program-specific. I use Firefox and I certainly spend more time in it than any other program. I've installed 2 two add-ons, Vertical Bookmarks Toolbar and Compact Menu. They do just what their names imply - the first places my bookmarks toolbar to the left (or right, if you prefer) of the screen, the second compacts my entire Menu toolbar to a small icon that sits in the upper-left corner of the address bar. Getting rid of these 2 horz menu bars gives one a nice little chunk of additional real estate. It takes a bit getting used to, but once you do, it's great.
I'm running a homemade rig, which worked fine on my 42" TV as a "HTPC/Gamer." Moved it from its spot in the entertainment center to my desk and BAM! Locks up or hangs during gaming. Zero activity, temps on my Strike-X drop to ambient, no Ctrl+Alt+Deletes, power button press resets, or power button hold resets. Only option is to flip the power switch on the PSU. Now, here's the kicker, when I lay the case horizontally, it works without a hitch.
