View 1 RepliesTHIS TUTORIAL INVOLVES:Docking program (tested on and Objectdock) Stack docklet (I use Stack Docklet For ObjectDock by ~arshi2009 on deviantART on both RD and OD) Link Shell Extension Please choose the appropriate version for your OS. 64-bit programs with troublesome shortcuts Since you're reading this, this author assumes that you already have Stacks docklet installed and have been using it for quite some time now. You are just annoyed why 64-bit program shortcuts give you error everytime you access it inside the Stack. Therefore, THIS TUTORIAL IS NOT ABOUT:Installing Stacks docklet Creating stacks 64-bit application shortcuts are not easy to tame, especially when you use Stack docklets to collect them in groups. Some may work (in my case, Photoshop has been friendly), but mostly they appear as this ugly icon:And when you click it, a dialog will popup to tell you that it can't be opened:A workaround to make 64-bit applications shortcuts operable in Stacks docklet was provided via Aqua-Soft forums. It wasn't their instruction that bugged me but the whole process of creating symbolic links, which involves using the command prompt and selecting a proper handle that is difficult to comprehend and a total pain to newbies like me. So for those having trouble with symbolic links, here's a tip to easily create them.
1) download and install Link Shell Extension. The software will add a context menu item.
2) Head to installation folder of the 64-bit program you'd like to include in Stacks docklet. (In this example, I will use 7-zip)
3) Right-click on the folder and select Pick Link Source
4) Create a folder anywhere. But I advise that this folder should contain symbolic links ONLY so they remain organized. (In my case, I put all my configurations on a separate partition, and my SymLinks folder is placed next to my Program Shortcuts folder so they're easier to reference in case I needed to change something).
5) Open that newly-created folder. Right-click anywhere, and select Drop As then Symbolic Link. (The item you just "dropped" will now appear in that folder and it has a green overlay icon to indicate that it's a Sym Link (for some reason, mine appears in blue. I'll work this out later). It will act as if it's stored there, but it only references the original folder you have "picked". You can open it directly from there and add, delete or edit contained files, and the changes are reflected to the original folder. So it's better to leave it alone unless you know what you're doing.)
6) Open the folder you just "dropped". Find the main .exe file that launches the program and create a shortcut for it.
7)This newly-created shortcut is what you should use in your Stacks docklet. After creating your docklet that include this shortcut, you should be able to see the proper icon of your 64-bit program and click on it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is one of those things that could be worded in so many ways, there may be a solution out there but I have no idea what phrasing may have been used in such a case. Basically, I recently switched to using a vertical taskbar on the left side, more workable area on widescreen monitors. I love it so far, except for the change in system tray behavior. They're doubled up, which is fine, but if I have an odd number of icons it disturbs my general arrangement. This is hugely annoying for me as I frequently use the system tray to open multiple applications I always have open in the background, such as IRC or AIM.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI took some cell phone videos in the portrait position recently which translates to showing only in the horizontal position in MM or whatever editing software I have. Unlike pics, I can't find a plug in or software that will let me flip it from that horizontal to vertical (portrait) position.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a long vertical line (about 4 times the length of the text cursor and about 3/8" to the right of the text cursor) in fields that I would normally enter text. I have tried all of the control panel settings that I think would affect the cursor like themes and mouse pointer settings. This is my wife's computer and she told me that it started doing that a few weeks ago. I am not aware of any new programs except the usual Windows updates and anti-virus updates.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWith widescreen monitors, which are pretty much the standard these days, there is always plenty of horizontal space, it's the vertical space that is at more of a premium. To take advantage of this I've done 2 things - First, I moved my taskbar to the left side of the screen, this gives me that much more vertical space in all programs.
The second thing is program-specific. I use Firefox and I certainly spend more time in it than any other program. I've installed 2 two add-ons, Vertical Bookmarks Toolbar and Compact Menu. They do just what their names imply - the first places my bookmarks toolbar to the left (or right, if you prefer) of the screen, the second compacts my entire Menu toolbar to a small icon that sits in the upper-left corner of the address bar. Getting rid of these 2 horz menu bars gives one a nice little chunk of additional real estate. It takes a bit getting used to, but once you do, it's great.
My mom has a Compaq laptop. It has Windows 7. Yesterday, the screen randomly turned a blue-ish green color. The Google Chrome new tab page is where she first noticed. It's pretty much wherever there should be white, there's that funny color. When I restart it, the white Compaq "Q" logo is green instead of white. The "Starting Windows" text is green and the light inside of the Windows logo is green also.

Locks up or hangs during gaming. Zero activity, temps on my Strike-X drop to ambient, no Ctrl+Alt+Deletes, power button press resets, or power button hold resets. Only option is to flip the power switch on the PSU. Now, here's the kicker, when I lay the case horizontally, it works without a hitch.

A few minutes later, all of a sudden, the monitor screen is filled with colored vertical and horizontal lines...and nothing is working nor is there anything else on the screen but the lines. Manually, shut down and rebooted. Opened with options on how to continue. I chose Normal Mode. Computer and screen now working as they should for the last hour.

I have a computer which is pretty old except for the video card which is 2 years old and the psu which is literally 1 month old.Today morning my girlfriend turned the computer on and it started displaying striped flashing multi-colored lights. I turned it off immediately. When I turned it on after 3 hours, It went to start up repair then it displayed a Fatal Error BSOD. Then it proceeded to switch to flashing multi-colored lights which resulted in burning smell from the computer.
