Windows 7 freezes as dots begin to come together, 2 tiny dots (red & yellow), then goes to black screen. Startup repair boots to light Microsoft logo. Won't boot from 3 recovery dvds, or reinstall, goes to same screen. Gateway DX4320, AMD Phenom II, Stock hardware

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine. When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd. I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

View 3 Replies View Relatedam running Windows 7 Home Premium. Aspire, Intel i5-2430M 2.4 GHZ, 64 bit Operating System. We only bought this at the end of December, 2011! When I am on Blogger, I haven't noticed it otherwise, when I move my mouse, sometimes the whole screen goes patchwork. There are squares of yellow, green and orange covering the screen, except for the address bar. (I attached a picture) I can navigate to a new address and it goes away. I am just a bit concerned there is a virus. I have run a full scan with Super Anti Spyware and I quite regularly use Crap Cleaner.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen my computer finishes starting up, it ends with what looks like blobs of colored pixels in a line at the top of my screen. This happened for the first time tonight and I have no clue what happened. I took out my video card and plugged my monitor into the mother boards vga slot. Same result. Then i used a HDMI cable from my monitor to my motherboards HDMI slot. Still, with the same result. I plugged my Xbox 360 up to monitor with the HDMI cable and it looks fine so it's not on the monitor's end.
When the computer is loading, the screen stays black. Then when my desktop would normally show is when the pixels show up and the rest of the screen is black.
the screen going on the fritz only when playing a video. i have not tried playing a video on vlc or wmp to test this but it seems almost every time a video pops up on a website, or if i go to Internet, my screen goes crazy.per the other thread, i swept my old drivers and re-installed the newest (which was 12.9 beta) and everything is ok, cept these videos. to fix it, i have once or twice gotten lucky and been able to hit escape and it goes back to normal. otherwise, i have to hit the power button and make it go into sleep/lock mode. i have a second monitor hooked up and it doesn't do what monitor one does, which is very odd.card is xfx radeon r7770 ultra overclocked black edition (factory overclocked)p.s. tried to use the uploader for pic and it wasn't working for me at all. tried to use imgur also, said it was down for maint.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy mom has a Compaq laptop. It has Windows 7. Yesterday, the screen randomly turned a blue-ish green color. The Google Chrome new tab page is where she first noticed. It's pretty much wherever there should be white, there's that funny color. When I restart it, the white Compaq "Q" logo is green instead of white. The "Starting Windows" text is green and the light inside of the Windows logo is green also.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to do a routine (once a year) chkdsk via the command prompt Code: > chkdsk /r
> shutdown /r /f /t 1 . And upon the reboot, all I get is a black screen, no cursor, with ~4 rows of rainbow, garbled pixels at the very top of the monitor (certain pixels occasionally change colours). This occurs before the windows splash screen. I have left the computer as is, hoping it will eventually boot on its own with no luck. This was just a routine check. Some more information, I dual-boot with Ubuntu. I can mount and access the windows partition from Ubuntu, and I even ran ntfsfix in Ubuntu (which has some analogous functionality to chkdsk), but it didn't notice any problems.
a couple of weeks ago i bought and downloaded a copy of the "aos system optimizer" and after using it to 'optimize' my system it instead screwed it up big time... now my sound crackles and stutters when i play all media, online or offline, dvds, Internet, games, etc.technical support from them didn't solve my problem, needless to say i've asked for( and gotten) a refund from them, but i'm still stuck with this annoying problem..i've tried the usual methods, such as rolling back drivers, uninstalling all the audio drivers (nvidia and realtek) restarting and letting windows 7 reinstall them, all to no avail. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having the most insane issue with sounds in Windows 7. All of a sudden out of the blue it seemed like my headphones started dropping half the channels. I can hear mostly high pitched sounds but bass and especially voices are very quiet, laggy and distorted.
What's killing me is I can't find out why. I've tried different headphones, but every pair does the same thing. I've used different audio jacks (reconfigured in registry) no difference. I thought the onboard Realtek card might have had it so I bought a new Creative sound card. Exactly the same thing.
I've installed and reinstalled new drivers, codecs and anything else I can think of. I even booted into my Vista partition and the sound there is screwed too now. Have I just killed some part of the motherboard somehow?
I use Publisher 2007. Since I started operating with Windows7, the web page preview is distorted. Is there a solution?

If I choose start normally it begins to load with the microsoft symbol when all of the sudden a multi-colored streak runs across the top half inch of the screen and it freezes for good. I have used startup repair and the computer is unable to automatically repair it, I have tried to reboot from an image of the computer and the same error happens at start-up. I have even gone as far as restoring the factory settings but there is nothing that will prevent that little streak from showing up and freezing my computer mid start up.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using my PC fine for the last 3 years. A month or so ago I updated to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. That too has been running fine, then today, after about 3-4 hours of use, in the middle of a game, my PC screen suddenly got weird wavy lines and colours all over it and crashed. Long story short this has now happened about 10 times. Interestingly, I thought it was a graphics card problem, so I tried it on my HD TV (both TV and monitor connected via HDMI) and it did it on the TV too. I then uninstalled the nvidia (8800gt) drivers and restarted my PC. It works fine in safe mode, and in normal mode, but I can't change my resolution to 1680x1050, (it's native resolution) without installing the nvidia drivers.
I don't know if the problem is the drivers, (but never had an issue before?) or with resolution, (monitor problem?) Every time I do install the nvidia drivers the PC restarts normally, screen looks fine, and the PC seems to run, until I click on anything with the mouse and then the wavy lines and weird colours appear again and I can't CTL-ALT-DEL, I have to hard reset it every time. Once I left it for 5 mins. and moved the mouse a little every min. or so and that was OK, but as soon as I click on anything, it freezes and artifacts again. Also, my antivirus flashed red a few times and so did the windows clock in the bottom right corner of the screen, (very odd!) when the PC first starts windows.
That made me think it could be a virus, (even though I'm very careful about what I DL), but I had Avast run through a deep clean check and it found nothing. I also tried to get Win 7 to repair itself, which did nothing either! I've tried reinstalling the drivers, using newer and older nvidia drivers and I've tried to install my HG216 monitor driver, but since it's a few years old there is no official Win 7 support and all I have is an inf. file I can't install on Win 7. I haven't included a dump file, I know a fair amount about computers but I haven't worked out how to do that yet. Also, since I have to hard reboot everytime, in my event view the only errors listed seem to be about 'power failure', so I don't know if the bug or whatever would show up in the dump file?
I have an odd problem whenever I am listening to music, or whenever windows makes any sort of sound (like error alerts, log off sound etc)Any sound is played distorted and is completely beyond recognition. I noticed that this only happens when I have an AVG scan running and if I pause/continue the scan, the music will change almost instantly. This suddenly started about a week ago and I hadn't installed any new software or anything.
View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently got a Toshiba L755 and have been having an issue with audio & video playback since I got it. I have updated the latest drivers for the Conexant HD Audio card and this made no difference. Basically during playback there is an intermitant distorted sound during mp3 playback, video playback and online streams.
I have tried different programs and the same thing happens, however, when I have a LAN cable plugged in there is no issue - it is only when im connected to the net via wireless. I have a netgear router which is working fine.
After installing Windows 7 - 64 bit 7077
my sound is somehow distorted (and not clear).
I have
Creative SB - Live! Value , PCI
I checked on creative website, and I installed the following
SBL_PC64DRVBETA_LB_2_03_0005.exe
LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe
Same thing!
I saw that windows update installed and updated 2-3 times the driver but still the same thing.
Also at one point the sound stops completely.
Then if I go to :
Sound - Playback - Speakers (of the creative device) - Properties - Custom
Then uncheck and check "Digital Output only" the sound is back for a bit.
For now Im working with an older C-Media 8738 card wich had good drivers on its website and works for now.
It has another problem - if I click on the icon of C-Media software in the system tray it freezes.
From this icon I can switch between 2 and 4 speakers etc etc
For now I do not click on this icon ...
I can not upload publisher and the web previews are distorted. Pass use was on XP with no issues

Now when using the computer it sometimes becomes very slow and the mouse lags and if I am playing music at the time, the sound becomes slow and badly distorted high screeching sounds. I have tried system restore, hardware diagnostics and factory reset but the problem is still there. This problem(s) don`t occur all the time, just when I think everything is ok it starts again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy wife did something on her PC (she doesn't know exactly for sure what & can't explain it completely me), and now she can't boot up her PC. She says it had something to do with changing the security settings for a program she uses a lot so it wouldn't keep asking her if she wanted to launch it, and that's when it told her to restart the PC, then it wouldn't boot up anymore. When you reboot, the screen eventually goes to a black screen saying "Windows failed to start. A software or hardware error may be the cause" or something to that effect. It offers me the option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally".If I Launch Startup Repair, nothing much happens --- it says it's adding files, then it looks like Windows is about to boot up, then it goes to a black screen for a long time & nothing happens.
If I choose Start Windows Normally, it simply reboots & eventually brings me back to the same screen again.I've tried using rebooting and selecting ESC to get to the boot menu, then installing the Win 7 installation disc & selecting the DVD drive, then I select thelanguage, then I click Repair, but it sits there forever with nothing happening.I also tried an outside boot disc I found on the web & it doesn't launch.
My son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?
