Windows 7 Home Premium Multi-Colored Swipe Error
Apr 29, 2012
I have a dell inspiron notebook less then one year old. Every time I attempt to start up it suggest start-up repair or start normally. If I choose start normally it begins to load with the microsoft symbol when all of the sudden a multi-colored streak runs across the top half inch of the screen and it freezes for good. I have used startup repair and the computer is unable to automatically repair it, I have tried to reboot from an image of the computer and the same error happens at start-up. I have even gone as far as restoring the factory settings but there is nothing that will prevent that little streak from showing up and freezing my computer mid start up.

I have done a Google search and been the the Microsoft site. I have tried every suggestion: clean boot, MS Update Readiness Program, MS Fix-it Program, Update Reset, disabling my AV and Firewall, Manual and Automatic Update but nothing allows me to update KB2484033, KB2511250, or KB2522422. I have tried 3rd party programs to include: HijackThis, MT RUbot, ComboFix, and FixCleaner and they haven't helped. I have Spybot, McAffee, MS Defender, and I use Windows Firewall. All of these are current and update with no problem.

I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.
When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???
Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.
Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?
Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!
I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.

I purchased an HP slimline back in January of 2010 for $540.00 at Best Buy and I never turned it off ever since except for power failures in my area. Last month the screen was going off and on. Strange cuz I never encountered this before. I opened it and everything seems to be in place like all cables from the switch to the motherboard was okay and nothing seems to have loose wiring. I disassembled it to make sure the wires are tightly connected.Whenever I turn it on it would only give me one blue blink. So, I opted to have it repaired. Couldn't really do much in search for a reasonably priced technician and so I called this guy from the Yellow Pages of my iPhone He and diagnosed it as a dead power supply. I came to agree with him and told me it will be $160 and he is willing to bring it down to go down to $140.00. In short he did the haggling by himself. He said that it will take a couple of days to get my computer running in hood condition and that the part (power supply) and told me this part is never sold at stores. I wanted my computer fixed so I wrote him a check for $140.00. In 4 days he calls me and tell me everything is fine. He gave me ack the computer on Friday past 11:00PM.I checked it out the next day and it was glacier-fast but I did not give up on it especially after spending that much. It took me a loooong time to get from website to another and after a few days I realized that I am waiting for eternity to get to another site. Btw. I never had seen a working You Tube at all. It just gives E a snowy screen which says an error has occurred. I am getting impatient so I had emailed the technician every time I come to a road block.I could not get anywhere with this computer so I tried System Restore which did not work so I finally decided to Recover to factory settings and willing to lose all my data of 2 years. Now that Recovey finished my computer's password and probably the username are not recognized by the homegroup network and I am getting an Error 651.I emailed the guy and told him everything.

My family have growing computing needs - 2 kids, plus my wife and I, and frequent visitors like grandparents. All of want access to a PC, but I don't want to administer 5+ machines around the house. How can I roll out a central server for the family to access their own portfolio of applications? The kids' school uses Windows. I want to allow my wife the freedom of a power user, secure the kids surfing an allow everyone to keep personal files centrally. Also, given my eldest is a tinkerer, I want to allow her to experiment within her own pc environment - but be able to kill an environment and deploy a fresh instance (she has an old mac now, and managed to change the o/s to Spanish - took me over an hour to work out to fix it).

The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.
I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.
I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.
I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.
It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.
Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

I have sort of a special case here. I purchased my HP laptop in Thailand, and much to my chagrin it came installed with Windows 7 Home Basic. In addition, the HP store which sold me the laptop installed 4gb of RAM neglecting to tell me that the 32bit version of 7 only supported up to 3. At any rate, I am hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit edition. But while there is a glut of information online about how to upgrade from Starter, there is little to nothing about Home Basic. Do I have to buy a full copy of 7 Home Premium 64 Bit? Can I buy an Anytime Upgrade that is meant for Starter and apply it to my computer?

Installation copiers Multi Boot OS with Multi software?
I have just just purchased some new PC with different configration AMD Phenom II X4 965, Gigabyte 890GLX Motherboard, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and 2nd AMD Athalon 635 with Gigbyte 875 Mothboard -4 GB RAM, 500GB HDD.I want to use these machines for Gaming as well as for teaching and for Internet browsing and web site development
What i Did i had Installed Multiple OS Windows XP SP3 32Bit, Windows XP SP2 64 Bit, Windows 2003 server 32 and 64 bit, Windows Vista 32 & 64 Bit, Windows 2008 server 32 and 64 bit , Windows 7 32 and 64 bit.
Now i want to install general softwares like Office, Adobe Master collection cs5 , Autocad, Coral , Visual studio Java, C, SQl Server, Oracle and the list caries on
I want that i dont have to install these software again and again on every software so that the space is not occupied and i can use same program files folder for each and every OS and time is also saved from installing the software.
For that i have seen some installation copiers (backups) which remain in memory before installation and records the information of registry and system files being copied and records and the can again be copied to the different OS.
Is there any ways to do these which installation copier backup is good for doing this . finding such softwares which can copy or backup installation files registries and i can just use the same installers.

Is it possible to emulate that "sliding" feature where you can switch to different windows so easily? I can't believe it's not a built in feature it would be so much easier to navigate through windows than having to point and click on them!

Had Windows 7 home premium for around 2 months on a brand new desktop. Never had a single problem with it untill today. Turned it on as normal, got to the log in screen where i click on the required user. As the pc is only used by me I only have 1 user availiable. I click on it like normal but this time i get a message saying 'The user profile service service failed the logon' 'user profile cannot be loaded'. It then refreshes the page and returns me back to the logon page and if i press enter the same thing just keeps repeating itself. Other option on this page are the shutdown/sleep/restart option and a little box in the bottom left corner called ease of access with various options, but none that seem relevant to the situation.

I came to my laptop about five hours ago and have not been able to do anything with it since. I had it in hibernate and as I flicked the lid up it shut itself down - I assumed for updates. Nothing happened.I turned it on, started windows normally as it hadn't shut down properly and waited for the log on screen. It hung on "Please wait" for about five minutes with the circle going round and round and round, then nothing, just the home page no user no password no log on. I turned it off and turned it on again while Google'ing for answers. Seeing as I haven't been able to log in at all a lot of the answers I haven't been able to try, so far I have tried: to boot normally and end up with the hanging screen.booting safe mode, it loads files, finishes with windowssystem32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS then restarts and I'm back to square one.booting in safe mode with networking and command prompt - same as above. F8, repair, system restore, tried all points with errors:System restore failed to extract the file (C:) from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x8000ffff) [code]I downloaded Windows 7 about 18 months ago from a student offer while I was at university - I was sent a CD/DVD and put it somewhere very safe, so safe I don't even know where it is!If it is any help, I also hear a ticking noise from the laptop when it gets to the start up screen just as it begins to hang, it then stops and I end up having to turn it off or it restarts itself.

I'm attempting to do an upgrade/update install of Windows 7 Professional over Vista Business. Everything checks out with the update advisor, the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs have been turned off (I have, however, left the Windows home-grown firewall on), but shortly after the temporary files have been copied and the setup begins, I received a dialog box saying that an unexpected error has occurred and that I should retry the installation.
My system is multi-boot with the first partition for Windows XP Professional, the second with Vista Business, and the third and fourth with OpenSuse Linux. I'm trying to upgrade/update the Vista partition. SP1 has been installed for Vista, and all of the updates contained in SP2 have also been installed.
