Failure To Exit Hibernate Mode Running Windows 7?
Dec 2, 2011
I have recently moved to Windows 7 (upon getting a new motherboard installed) and 2 weeks later. I cannot start up as I get a 'Restart from Hibernate' message on screen but nothing further happens. I have tried a 'hard restart' from power off several times, allowing plenty of time for capacitor discharge etc but get the same message. More worrying is that I cannot find any way to get the pc to start in safe mode or use restore as Windows 7 seems almost to be bypassing the bios. Holding down delete on startup shows the first line of the bios screen then moves immediately to the hibernate message. It seems to move into that screen before the keyboard or mouse are activated. How I can get out of hibernate?

First the system specs:
Intel DX48BT2 motherboard
Intel QX9770 3.2 GHz Core 2 Extreme
Nvidia GTX 295
8GB of OCZ 1333MHz DDR3 Gold Series RAM
30GB OCZ Vertex SSD
1TB Samsung HD103UJ HDD
Windows 7 SP1 Public Beta
For two nights in a row whenever I have put my computer to sleep before I go to bed it has not been able to exit sleep mode the following morning. The screens get no signal even the the computer is on. I should note that I have hibernation disabled on this computer due to the fact that the SSD boot drive is so small and an 8GB hibernation file would be too large. Instead I enter standby. I should note that last night as I was entering sleep mode I accidentally hit a key which caused it to come right back out of sleep mode before the fans had turned off.

The monitor seems to go into power saving mode when entering/exiting a game such as a game in steam. (But it doesn't happen every time) the only way to get it out is hard restart. Yes I've tried other monitors, as well as display drivers, and there also seems to be nothing wrong in the Bios.

I have Windows 7 and XP installed on different partitions on the same computer. When I put Windows 7 in hibernation and switch the computer back on, I don't get the dual boot menu which gives me the option to choose between 7 or XP. Instead, Windows 7 starts loading. Is it possible to start XP while 7 is in hibernation, and if so, how can I do this?

After almost a year of "no problems" operation my PC has suddenly developed a strange will of its own on shut-down.I always put my PC into hibernate mode rather than switching it off. I use the START/Shut Down/Hibernate series of steps. Suddenly recently, my PC still goes into hibernate, as previously, but after approx 2-3 seconds the PC suddenly restarts! The only way to end PC use is now to shut it down completely which is a pain as it takes far longer to restart next time I use the machine.

Some weeks ago I made a reinstall of my Win7 Home Premium x64 (a Dell M1330 with 4gb RAM). After then, my machine starts having random BSOD errors when going or recovering from sleep or hibernate mode. The error is a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, with code 0x0000009f.I attach here the info grabbed with W7F Diagnostic Tool, CPU z pictures and RAMmon html report. If it helps, here is the info I see with WinDbg looking the last minidump.

Every evening after hibernation, the computer comes out of hibernation unexpectedly, lights up the screen unasked for!Note: I have adjusted the power settings in control panel to do this w/o a password wake-up. Even the screen doesn't dim with no use! This is a new phenomenon, it was working properly about a month ago. I did at one time in the last month reset everything to defaults, but that was in response to the beginning of this problem !

How a machine Windows 7 or XP once goes to sleep/hibernate mode, can be identified on the network to do a Wake-On-LAN. Because the machine is shutdown, the ping does not give a response. In a DHCP environment, when the machine goes to sleep mode, the ip is released so not necessarily the machine can be identified with its IP.

After trying to scan my computer with tdskiller (I believe its called) to remove some viruses, I was asked to reboot. When I did, my backround desktop picture turned black, files seemed to be missing from my desktop and a window poped up scanning and telling me how many errors I had. Shortly after I got about 20 error pop up messages. I rebooted my computer and more files were missing to the point all I had was recycle bin, and two other programs.
Now the computer runs only in safe mode, No matter what I do (pressing f8 - start in normal mode) nothing works. I cant get internet access, and worst of all, I cant even system restore or even recover it back to to the malfunctioners option due to errors. I am stuck and do not know what else to try.
Ive tried the repair option in dos aswell and it just keeps me in the "Loading window files" screen, as I left it there for nearly four hours im guessing that was not going to work.

After having set up XP in virtualisation mode and had it working more or less satisfactorily. Even got a USB sound card working. I find today that after getting into it, a major programme would not launch.
I launched a second one, which ran but which locked up and could not be stopped.
Exit XP. Reboot the Windows 7 machine. Start XP, get error "Terminal connection is busy processing another connect operation" followed after a time by the login screen.
Enter password and get the same error.
One time I did get into XP, but every app lauched gave error "App failed to init as the window station is shutting down". I noticed that the locked-up app from the first session was still on the taskbar and still locked up and unable to be stopped.

I have an Acer Aspire timeline computer I bought 2 years ago. This computer advertised great battery life, internal cooling, and all sorts of other cool things....unfortunately, it was all a lie. But enough about that, As of like 3 days ago, I noticed my computer would respond slowly and take forever to complete a shutdown. I thought nothing of it until I decided to scan it usingSuperAntiSpyware. It came back with 40 tracking cookies, which I deleted. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed it was still running slowly. So I decided a system restore would be niceI tried the first availible restore date. That apparently failed. Then I tried several others, with no success. I kept getting error codes telling me that the system restore failed to extract the file. It said the disk failiure might have been caused by bad sectors....I have no idea what that means. Ive tried multiple restore dates, they all come back with the same message.
I do not have Norton on my computer ( I read this was part of the problem in many other machines with the same restore error, but just to make it clear, that is not part of the problem with my computer). I can only use my computer in safe mode, because the regular boot mode is wayy too slow and laggy. Also I have plenty space on my computer so it couldnt possibly be slowing down because its getting full or something.

I have an issue which I need resolved. My hard drive had about 5 different partitions, one for Win7 x86, Win7 x64, Misc, Encrypted Data and Virtual Machines. The Encrypted Data partition was secured with BitLocker - The OS-partitions was _not_ secured with BitLocker. Now what happened was that I had to run the startup repair utility on my Win7 x64 installation and this completely messed up things for me. I have lost the Encrypted Data and Virtual Machine-partition.
I do not care about the VMs, but the Data contains vital information which I have not backed up yet. On top of losing the two partitions, a new partition called HP_tools re-appeared. This partition was removed when I scratched the OEM-installation approx. a year ago. I urgently need to recover this Data-partition. I do have unallocated space (between other partitions) on my hard drive, but none at the exact size of my encrypted partition.

I ran into a problem with a friend of mine. She was having problems with her computer trying to run programs when her computer desktop was running in basic mode and not in Aero mode. There was 2 accounts on the computer one in Aero and one in basic. When she logon on to the one in Aero everything ran fine. When she logon on to the one in basic her account. Everything she tried to run didn't work or couldn't change or update.
I ask her if she always ran it in basic and she said she had never change the desktop. As soon as we change it back to Aero than everything was fine. I might be wrong but you should be able to run in the basic mode with no problems right. Does Win 7 change all the programs to run in basic mode and do you have to setup those programs to run right in basic mode. Or is this a commom problem with Win 7.

If you have, I would like to have a screenshot of your desktop with the picture below as a desktop background. My intention is to promote virtualization technology and demonstrate graphically how you can run several operating systems on the same machine at the very same time. Here are the instructions:
1. Make sure that your screen mode truly is 1920x1080, (I don't want to have the wallpaper rescaled in the screen shot). Make the following picture temporarily your desktop wallpaper:
2. Open a window and arrange it as the black rectangle in green in the following picture:
This window could be paint, notepad or any software that opens a standard windows 7 window with Aero translucency. I want this window to look like a typical hardware demanding FPS game (such as Crysis 2 och Battlefield 3 or similar) running in windowed mode in Windows 7.
3. Make sure there are no desktop icons covering the green shaded parts of the image above and make sure that the window you have added is active. Press "SHIFT + PrintScreen" to capture the screen.
4. Open Windows Paint or similar software and paste the screenshot by pressing "CTRL-v".
5. Save the picture as 24-bit PNG, BMP or TIFF (NOT JPEG or any image format below 24-bit!), and submit it as is back onto these forums. You can upload it to e.g. "imageshack.us" but make sure you set the "Do not resize" (!) option.

I'm having trouble with CS 1.6 . The game would only run in Software Mode and whenever I try to run it in OpenGL this error message appears:The specified video mode is not supported. The game will now run in Software Mode..Mobile Intel(R) 945 Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation Pre-release VDDM1.0) is what I have. I think that maybe the problem could be that it's a Microsoft prerelease driver version or somewhat. I've tried checking on Intel's website but I've only seen either Intel 945GM or Intel 945GMS or something like that.

At my work we are in the process of upgrading our network from server 2003 and xp on the clients to server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 on the clients. We have some productivity software that will not run on windows 7 64 bit so we have installed the XP mode virtual machine in order to run that software. The software installs fine and runs fine. The problem we are having is some of the software is used to program PLC's and so we need to be able to talk with these devices over the network at their IP addresses. I have configured the "virtual" ethernet adapter and windows 7 ethernet adapter the same. From the cmd prompt in win 7 i can obviously ping the devices and communicate with anything on the network however when I am running the XP mode I cannot access anything on the network. The virtual mode isnt recognizing any of the physical computers resources. Is there a way to make it so when running XP mode and the programs in XP mode the computer can communicate with other devices over the network?

I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 7 (64bit). Lately the computer freezes up in less than five minutes if running in normal mode, leaving only hard-boot option. When restarting, I go to "Safe with Networking" mode, and everything seems to run fine, even internet. I have repeatedly run scans from: Malwarebytes; SuperAntiSpyware; SpyBot; Windows Defender; CCleaner; Periform FixCleaner; TDSSKiller, and probably another half dozen. I have reset the Hosts file, and recovered to a reset point established back in December, before the current problems began. Nothing has solved the problem (any threats found in the various scans were removed, but that had no effect on the current problem). I suspect, from the scan results, that the problem is not malware. I think there may be a corrupt or damaged file or process somewhere in the system. The OS is factory installed, and the laptop did not come with a Windows disk. What's the best way to clean this up

Don't know what happened but some things got changed. The transparent mouse selection thingy when you drag your mouse on the desktop is the normal Windows XP/Basic one where it's just the dotted line. Also, the desktop wallpaper slide show doesn't fade into each picture it just does a quick switch. So what I'm thinking is that my computer is running in a low visual appearance mode or something like that. Can I switch it back?
