I have Windows 7 and XP installed on different partitions on the same computer. When I put Windows 7 in hibernation and switch the computer back on, I don't get the dual boot menu which gives me the option to choose between 7 or XP. Instead, Windows 7 starts loading. Is it possible to start XP while 7 is in hibernation, and if so, how can I do this?
I am using below Configuration,OS : Windows 7 HOme Basic 64 Bit Laptop : Sony Vaio - VPCEB44EN I've reistalled OS , after that Win7 is not going to Hibernate mode ..
I have recently moved to Windows 7 (upon getting a new motherboard installed) and 2 weeks later. I cannot start up as I get a 'Restart from Hibernate' message on screen but nothing further happens. I have tried a 'hard restart' from power off several times, allowing plenty of time for capacitor discharge etc but get the same message. More worrying is that I cannot find any way to get the pc to start in safe mode or use restore as Windows 7 seems almost to be bypassing the bios. Holding down delete on startup shows the first line of the bios screen then moves immediately to the hibernate message. It seems to move into that screen before the keyboard or mouse are activated. How I can get out of hibernate?
My Windows 7 is:- x64 Home Premium SP1- the original installed OS on the system.- an OEM version. Came pre-installed on system.- The age of system (hardware) is 8 Months.- The age of OS installation is 8 Months.- Never re-installed.Hardware is:Sony VAIO VPC-EB46FXIntel Core i5 CPU M480 @2.67GHz
After almost a year of "no problems" operation my PC has suddenly developed a strange will of its own on shut-down.I always put my PC into hibernate mode rather than switching it off. I use the START/Shut Down/Hibernate series of steps. Suddenly recently, my PC still goes into hibernate, as previously, but after approx 2-3 seconds the PC suddenly restarts! The only way to end PC use is now to shut it down completely which is a pain as it takes far longer to restart next time I use the machine.
I am currently experiencing a BSOD after I put my computer into hibernate/sleep mode. Model: U46E-BAL6 ASUS, After I restart my computer, the windows crash report says the problem lies in my 080712-18283-01.dmp 080712-18283-01.dmp and a 2nd BSOD happened a little after, and the problem file is 080712-16395-01.dmp 080712-16395-01.dmp I have attached both files below, could someone take a look and solve the problem?
Some weeks ago I made a reinstall of my Win7 Home Premium x64 (a Dell M1330 with 4gb RAM). After then, my machine starts having random BSOD errors when going or recovering from sleep or hibernate mode. The error is a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, with code 0x0000009f.I attach here the info grabbed with W7F Diagnostic Tool, CPU z pictures and RAMmon html report. If it helps, here is the info I see with WinDbg looking the last minidump.

Every evening after hibernation, the computer comes out of hibernation unexpectedly, lights up the screen unasked for!Note: I have adjusted the power settings in control panel to do this w/o a password wake-up. Even the screen doesn't dim with no use! This is a new phenomenon, it was working properly about a month ago. I did at one time in the last month reset everything to defaults, but that was in response to the beginning of this problem !
How a machine Windows 7 or XP once goes to sleep/hibernate mode, can be identified on the network to do a Wake-On-LAN. Because the machine is shutdown, the ping does not give a response. In a DHCP environment, when the machine goes to sleep mode, the ip is released so not necessarily the machine can be identified with its IP.
I am having this blue screen error often occurs during resume from hibernate or sleep. Have been reading bleeping computers.com and figured out where to find the error report, and pasted it below. NO hardware or software changes done, everything seems to be updated from the update advisory. Please help me find a solution, it's getting annoying to have a computer these days and slightest problem.
I had windows installed on a disk (sda) and decided to install ubuntu 10.10 in another disk (sdb). Ubuntu installed Grub2 boot loader in sdb and both systems seem to work fine. Except windows hibernation (which worked normally before the Ubuntu installation). What happens is this:
1. If I set the BIOS to startup from disk sdb, GRUB comes out. When I select windows and try to hibernate, the screen goes black and after a couple of seconds the log in screen appears. So, I can not hibernate windows when I use GRUB. By the way, ubuntu hibernates normally.
2. If I set the BIOS to startup from disk sda, windows load (without GRUB of course) and hibernate actually works. But when I turn on the pc windows resuming is the only option. I can not activate the bbs popup and even if I set bios to boot from the other disk (sdb) the system seems to ignore me and resumes windows without displaying GRUB loader. So, I can either hibernate windows but have to resume before I can use ubuntu or start windows using grub and not have the option to hibernate. From the above I get that windows 7 have a way of controlling the system's BIOS and prevent loading another os when windows are hibernated. I say windows 7 because my laptop has a similar dual boot (vista with ubuntu 9.04) and hibernation works for both systems and I can load whichever I want after that. I tried to find information about Windows 7 hibernation and bios but I couldn't find anything clear enough.
I have also tried EasyBCD but it didn't change a thing. I have already seen the posts about active partitions, boot partitions, boot flag (in ubuntu), turned off hybrid sleep, prevented all devices from waking up windows but nothing works. I started a thread ([ubuntu] Hibernate Problem in Windows 7 but not in Ubuntu 10.10 - Ubuntu Forums) since I though it was a GRUB2 problem but no one seemed to know what to do (or no one cared)... So, I' m left with the above assumption (windows 7 controlling bios).
I have a Dell laptop that freezes one out of every 6 or 7 boots. This includes reboots and resume from hibernate. In both cases the system ALWAYS boots fine on the next attempt.I have yet to find a tool that will give me a bootlog ala WinXP so that I can see where the previous boot failed. I tried running a trace, but the trace doesn't seem to complete until the system properly boots, and the trace doesn't show which driver hung the previous boot attempt. It only seems to show the trace from the current successful boot. This used to be a basic function in XP. Does anyone know how to achieve a detailed text bootlog for boot and/or hibernate?
My computer suddenly won't boot after I left it sleeping/hibernating for a few hours. When I came back, I moved the mouse and press the 'esc' button and there was no response. I then decided to do a restart and it shows the windows logo then it shuts down on its own after. I've tried several restarts but it just stuck on this loop every time I do it. I also noticed that the windows logo is not on the center of the screen(it's a bit off to the left). Is this a graphics driver problem? It has been working properly since I installed windows 7 on my machine. I have an ati radeon 4650 HD graphics card.
So far, I've tried booting into safe mood and downloaded the latest catalyst but It failed to install. I also tried system restore from different restore points and failed. I've ran start up repair and it says it wont be able to repair it. (Start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically)
I can't boot my computer in normal mode or safe mode. When I try to do so, after the "starting windows" page the only things that come up are my mouse, a black screen/background, and a "logonui.exe-bad image- Authui.dll isn't designed to run on windows" error/message (not the exact message). I can't use a system restore (it can't find a restore point), the image recovery tool finds no image to restore from, system repair either doesn't find a problem or can't fix the problem, and basically nothing else works (none of the advanced boot options or other various buttons and tools do anything noticeable). I've even tried to use sfc in command prompt, but whenever I do any sfc things at all (/scannow, verifyonly, verifyfile, etc.) it says there is a system repair pending that requires a reboot. I've restarted 7-8 times and the exact same message keeps coming up. I'm looking for any general help I can get right now, [I can post my computer specifics in an hour when I have time](posted a few). I have an HP pavilion dv6-6135dx wiht Windows 7 x64.Processor: AMD a8-3500m APU, raedon graphics bios vender/version: insyde, f. 20.I'm having trouble getting more info because my computer is still crashing occasionally and I don't really know what else is relevant; if you need more, I might need directions on how to get it. Especially if it involves command prompt.I should also add that it has been crashing more often than I think is normal ever since I got it, but recently it BSODed 3-4 times a day. I have antivirus and also ran a full malwarebytes scan yesterday, and it only found one little issue which was resolved.
I seem to be having quite the problem on a computer of mine. After recently installing the directx sdk I am unable to logon through normal or safe mode. When I try to boot up normally, I log in but then the monitors go black but everything else seems to run. Pressing ctrl alt delete works and brings up the screen again but if I try to select task manager for example the screen goes black again. When I boot up through safe mode the computer restarts seconds after loading the windows logon screen.
Every time I boot my computer, it come up loading files, the open the boot recovery mode. If I leave it, it says that it fix one error, then it restarts and does the same again. The error was that it the boot.ini was missing. So I booted it up with ubuntu, and created an empty boot.ini file, then booted the minitool partition wizard (Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.) and configured the boot.ini. But still no luck. It's booting into recovery mode because that is the first partition.
WIndows 7 premium home version on a lenovo laptop freezing at splash screen. I can boot into safe mode just fine. Whereby I have to run a system restore back to an older date but the issue still comes back up and this seems to be especially true when trying to wake it from sleep mode.
I bought the bleeping Dell Inspiron 560, was to rapidly tap F8 during startup to bring up the "Advanced Boot Options." I saw the guy at Best Buy do it but it did not work on my machine when I got home. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium. The computer came without a manual or any disks.
I have a laptop with broken lcd. So im using it now as desktop, connecting it to an external lcd monitor.Last night I suspected a worm and tried to boot up in safe mode by pressing F8 but couldn't make it work because windows only activate the external monitor by the time it has finished loading drivers. The result was it keeps booting into normal mode. So, I remembered there's another way to boot into safe mode by accessing boot options in msconfig...Now I'm stuck with safemode and cannot do anything because safemode doesnt enable external monitor. I know for sure that I could enter password and get into safemode but I can't tell what should I press or click to access to that msconfig windows again to return boot options to normal state.
When I turn on my Acer laptop normally it loads but then completely freezes, not letting me do anything. The only way I can use it is through safe mode. It was working fine before it suddenly broke and it is only a few months old. I thought it might be a virus? I do have up to date anti virus thoug
I cannot boot into Windows 7 on my buddies laptop. It will boot fine into Windows 7 Safe Mode however when I boot into regular Windows it wont. Can a battery thats dying prevent it from booting into Windows?
I have just reformatted my pc and know i cannot boot into safemode, whenever i try to load up safe mode the pc just resets once i actually getthe windows welcome logo come up just as im about to enter safemode desktop,i have scanned for malware using malwarebytes, bitdefender and superantispyware, but have found nothing
The other night I hit the reset button at the wrong time and ever since then I'm only able to boot W7 in safe mode. I've tried all of the restore points and repair options but nothing works.
I ran chkdsk from safe mode command prompt and corrupt files were found but I can't run chkdsk /F because the partition is in use. When asked if I'd like to schedule one on next start up I say yes but the restart doesn't get far enough to initialize one. It just hands at "Loading Windows" just after the keyboard lights blink.
I've tried to do an upgrade install but you can't do that while booting from the cd or while in safe mode either.
