BSoD Debugging
Dec 20, 2009Hey guys I'm looking for some help debugging a BSoD. I installed Windows 7 64 Bit on my neighbors computer and everything was running fine. After updating drivers and doing windows updates she got a BSoD with something about MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. The BSoD only seems to come up when the comp is idle. I was on it for hours straight with no problems and after 10 mins of idle it popped.
I tried to debug it myself but I kept getting errors that I downloaded the wrong symbols. I failed many times, so I was wondering if somebody could figure it out and perhaps give me a better place to look. I doubt it is the actual RAM as it was running flawlessly on XP a couple days ago and fine on 7 until I did some updates.

Debugging Simple .bat That Worked On XP?
Jun 1, 2011I have a backup .bat that I have hobbled together from forums such as this. The original was made a few years ago. It worked flawlessly, until I brought it to windows 7. Very funny, now, it only works between 10am and midnight. This has been hell to figure out because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I know it has something to do with the context of the "set hour" or "if "%hour.." part, but I can't figure it out. Should be an easy fix for someone familiar with .bat programming. Here is the relevant part:

Oct 5, 2012I can't boot my computer in normal mode or safe mode. When I try to do so, after the "starting windows" page the only things that come up are my mouse, a black screen/background, and a "logonui.exe-bad image- Authui.dll isn't designed to run on windows" error/message (not the exact message). I can't use a system restore (it can't find a restore point), the image recovery tool finds no image to restore from, system repair either doesn't find a problem or can't fix the problem, and basically nothing else works (none of the advanced boot options or other various buttons and tools do anything noticeable). I've even tried to use sfc in command prompt, but whenever I do any sfc things at all (/scannow, verifyonly, verifyfile, etc.) it says there is a system repair pending that requires a reboot. I've restarted 7-8 times and the exact same message keeps coming up. I'm looking for any general help I can get right now, [I can post my computer specifics in an hour when I have time](posted a few). I have an HP pavilion dv6-6135dx wiht Windows 7 x64.Processor: AMD a8-3500m APU, raedon graphics bios vender/version: insyde, f. 20.I'm having trouble getting more info because my computer is still crashing occasionally and I don't really know what else is relevant; if you need more, I might need directions on how to get it. Especially if it involves command prompt.I should also add that it has been crashing more often than I think is normal ever since I got it, but recently it BSODed 3-4 times a day. I have antivirus and also ran a full malwarebytes scan yesterday, and it only found one little issue which was resolved.

May 24, 2012I seem to be having quite the problem on a computer of mine. After recently installing the directx sdk I am unable to logon through normal or safe mode. When I try to boot up normally, I log in but then the monitors go black but everything else seems to run. Pressing ctrl alt delete works and brings up the screen again but if I try to select task manager for example the screen goes black again. When I boot up through safe mode the computer restarts seconds after loading the windows logon screen.

The error was that it the boot.ini was missing. So I booted it up with ubuntu, and created an empty boot.ini file, then booted the minitool partition wizard (Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.) and configured the boot.ini. But still no luck. It's booting into recovery mode because that is the first partition.

Aug 11, 2011The other night I hit the reset button at the wrong time and ever since then I'm only able to boot W7 in safe mode. I've tried all of the restore points and repair options but nothing works.
I ran chkdsk from safe mode command prompt and corrupt files were found but I can't run chkdsk /F because the partition is in use. When asked if I'd like to schedule one on next start up I say yes but the restart doesn't get far enough to initialize one. It just hands at "Loading Windows" just after the keyboard lights blink.
I've tried to do an upgrade install but you can't do that while booting from the cd or while in safe mode either.

Jan 12, 2012I access the safe mode boot menu by pressing f8 during start up. Once there I choose boot in safe mode, hit enter and then windows lists the drivers it is booting with. The boot continues, however once done, the computer is not in safe mode, but is in normal operating mode (i.e. there are no "safe mode" indications at the perimeter of the screen, and all apps are up and running as usual).
I am not trying to fix any problem, I just wanted to be sure safe mode was there in case I needed it. A couple of days ago I actually had a piece of malware that disabled my Avast anti-virus and was preventing me from accessing the internet, and at that time I tried to boot into safe mode and had the same problem. I restored the computer with an image I had taken when the machine was new, which resolved the malware problem, but not the safe boot problem.
Incidentally, I have looked at the registry and the safe boot entries are intact:
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBoot is there along with it's subkeys Mininal and Network).
I am using Avast anti virus (paid version), Libre Office, Skype, Firefox and have a HP office jet 4500 printer. The machine is an ASUS U43F with an I5 processor.
Windows 7 Refusing To Boot In Normal Mode
Jul 7, 2012I have a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 installed on it. Recently, my computer was attacked by a virus. As soon as I noticed, I turned off the computer manually, and booted back up in safe mode. I ran Avast, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. All 3 found a couple of threats, which I deleted. I tried restarting my computer, and then running these 3 again in safe mode (with network). I did it as long as threats were found. Once the computer felt safe, I tried booting in normal mode.
Here's the problem : I get to the "Welcome" page, and then everything goes black but my cursor. What's strange about the problem : For some reason, I did succeed to get it to open normally 2 or 3 times, but every single time it would be crazy laggy. Internet Explorer wouldn't work either. It freezes as soon as I try to access anything. And now it's back to a black screen after the "Welcome" page when I try booting in normal mode. Only my cursor appears (I can move the cursor). Safe Mode works just fine too, only Normal mode has a problem.

Mar 27, 2012Win 7 Normal Mode won't start, will go past Starting up Screen and just hit a Black screen and will hit a Crash Dump (blue error screen)..... I can boot into safe mode fine and I have fun CHKSDK and after a reboot it fixed a few problems but I hit the same Crash Dump Screen. I have also made sure my whole pc is all clean and connected, no corroding parts etc etc, made sure my pci-e slot is default etc etc, no luck at all...Its a new installation and worked fine last night and early this morning after separate boots. Dec 27, 2011So I have been trying to get my computer running for a few days now. At first it wasn't booting at all, it would be a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have cleared cmos a few times, turned psu off, drained charge from psu, turned psu back on and got it working that way for about 10 minutes, then it crashed. Ever since then I can't get it to get running again. I think it says something about "fatal error" and then goes on telling me to boot into safe mode to remove any new hardware. Is it a hardware problem I'm having? If so, I'm screwed, too broke The best I can get is the screen where it says run windows normally or run in safe mode. But it will just crash on either option I pick. And when I try to run from the dvd drive with my windows 7 disc it's just a black screen with a blinking cursor. I'm not sure what to do...ugh I feel like it's something really simple to fix. I left my computer sitting for a few months and havn't tried to boot it until recently, so I don't remember if I put any updates on it or not.

May 25, 2011I have win7 on C drive and WinXPsp3 on D drive. Drives are separate. You can see full specs below.
I boot into XP on D fine. I can also boot into Win7 on C fine, but here is the catch. The computer wants to go into a chkdsk if I boot into win7. If I let the computer do this it goes through a very long process and when it comes out of that process it reboots and goes through its normal procedure.
But then when it gets to the very last step, the step where it shows the wallpaper, icons and taskbar, all I get is blank screen.
If I boot into safe mode I can see everything. If I boot into safemode with networking I can see everything. As a matter of fact that is how I am typing this message now.
What do I need to do to get my computer to boot correctly?

Mar 31, 2010I have a laptop with twin HDDs and I have Vista on the C: partition on Drive 1. I created a new partition G: on Drive 2 and, while Vista was running, inserted the Win 7 disc and started installation to G:. All went perfectly and I have retained my original partitions with drive letters and labels, plus a new G: partition labeled Win 7. All seems to be working fine.Now I heard from a geeky friend that BOTH OS should be running on C: and that windows has some clever way of making that work. Is this true - and are there any disadvantages continuing installing MANY apps on G:?

Apr 11, 2012When I turn it on, it loads the compaq screen, then says "windows is loading files". It then attempts to take me to the startup repair screen, but cannot load the startup repair options and just stays at a blue screen (NOT the blue screen of death).
I am unable to start the computer in safe mode as it gets to the same screen and does the same thing.
I have accessed the boot options screen and loaded windows from the disk in an attempt the repair it that way but I can not restore the computer from an earlier point in time and startup repair does nothing but search for problems for hours with no progress.
Im running windows 7 home edition 32bit The computer is a compaq presario CQ42
