Computer Freezes Unless Running In SAFE Mode?

Mar 11, 2012

I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 7 (64bit). Lately the computer freezes up in less than five minutes if running in normal mode, leaving only hard-boot option. When restarting, I go to "Safe with Networking" mode, and everything seems to run fine, even internet. I have repeatedly run scans from: Malwarebytes; SuperAntiSpyware; SpyBot; Windows Defender; CCleaner; Periform FixCleaner; TDSSKiller, and probably another half dozen. I have reset the Hosts file, and recovered to a reset point established back in December, before the current problems began. Nothing has solved the problem (any threats found in the various scans were removed, but that had no effect on the current problem). I suspect, from the scan results, that the problem is not malware. I think there may be a corrupt or damaged file or process somewhere in the system. The OS is factory installed, and the laptop did not come with a Windows disk. What's the best way to clean this up

No Malware Laptiop Freezes And Hans In Niormal Mode But Is Okay In Safe Mode

Oct 8, 2012

I own an HP G-62-347 Notebook, Windows 7 64 bit, Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Firewall, no other real time AV, no other Firewalls, Windows Defender disabled as Microsoft instrucs for MSE, 3 GB Raam, 313 GB HDD, AMD Dual Core P-380 processor. My Laptop began freezing 8-10 minutes after bootup logon. No matter what I was doing, Media, Excell, Word, it would freeze up and hang. Sometimes CTL_ALT_DLT would unfreeze it, even before the task manager appeared, but it will take 3-4 minutes with an o[ague screen and the progress "circle" moving then unfreeze, sork 1-2 minutes, freeze, etc. Then all clicks on something to activate would result in loooong (long) delays, 15 to 45 seconds, then the new screen or window or peogram would open, sometimes frozen up.This did not happen in safe mode.I have (on suggestions) removed all things from my start up or programs that other's have suggested, Google Update files, and three or four others that others had issues with that I found on the net. I have also removed programs that I had installed around then.

I have also run, in Safe Mode, MSE, MS Safety Scanner, MS malicious file remover, ESET online Scanner, my laptop is clean.I have used mscong to disable all non-microsoft items to see if that helped. It did not. Same issues.I have used startup repair, and after scanning received a message that there was a problem, but that it could not fix it, did I want to send a report to Microsoft, I checked yes and it sent me to System Restore, ran it for about a week ago which was when I had downloaded some software, and the problem still existed, which sent me back to System Repair, ran it, same error message, reported again.I used a Repair Disk to get back on the laptop a coulple of times when needed, but ultimately, the problem surfaced still.I have used ReImage Plus to rebuild all my defective Windows Files and a lot of my 3rd party defective files. And, I also did a Win 7 repair install.I am pretty convinced something is being loaded somewhere, but can't find where or who or what.Am I on the right track? Have I missed something? Am I wrong? I do not really want to do a clean re-install of Windows 7, for if I do I am reformatting everything to clean any and everything.... sort of NUKE it... but would rather find the culprit (for education purposes). And, I dislike installing and updating and setting up everything again more than I hate "boiled okra!"Anyone and Everyone that has had to do with this or similar sounding issue, please reply. I have two weeks invested, and would like to "graduate" resolving this and getting the learning experience of WHY?

Laptop Freezes Unless In Safe Mode?

Feb 21, 2012

Anyway, my laptop, which is an HP Pavilion (1 year old) with an i7 processor and 500gb hard drive, freezes everytime I start it up. My computer was perfectly functional until a few days ago. The first problem that occured was Safari would freeze on my homepage (google) everytime I opened the program. Every other website worked fine. On google chrome everything was running fine including google.com. Eventually safari would freeze no matter what site I went to, so I started using Chrome exclusively, which worked okay until after a couple hours, when it too began to freeze on any website. I ran a virus scan only to find a few tracking cookies and nothing with a high threat level. Well, the next thing I knew my computer itself became unresponsive. Whenever I start it up it appears everything is working until about 1-2 minutes in. Then everything freezes. For example, if I click the start menu or open a folder, it won't open until 30 minutes later if I'm lucky. So I guess my computer is just extremely slow.

I did not do anything out of the ordinary, so I have no idea what is causing this problem. I also tried a system restore, which accomplished nothing. I did notice, however, that my laptop seems to run at normal speed in safe mode, for whatever reason.

PC Freezes In Safe Mode On MUP.SYS File

Dec 6, 2011

I have a PC that froze up during use. No new software has been added, with the exception of Critical updates released over the past month. After a hard reboot, the PC would freeze up during the Windows boot screen - and in safe mode, it freezes while loading MUP.SYS.

here is what I've tried so far, each failing to resolve my issue:

* Clear BIOS by removing CMOS battery * Performing a CHKDSK of the system drive. - no issues found after running for 1.5 hours * Moved the one memory module to the other available slot. * fitted different HDD preloaded with fresh XP SP3 from a working PC

I even tried to do a fresh install, it picks up the disc and starts to download the files then the Windows logon screen appears again and it freezes up again I left it for 2 hours last night and it just sat there!

Laptop Running Slow, Will Not Boot In Safe Mode?

Feb 14, 2013

I happened to run across this forum while searching for answers to my computer troubles through Google. Here's the issue, my laptop is no more then a year old.  It's a Dell Model N5040 running Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1.  For the past week or so my computer has been running increasingly slower, and i cannot for the life of me figure out why.I am only using 36gb of a 446gb hard drive, I have 4gb of ram and have run a virus scan, disk cleanup, and a disk defrag..  It does not run slower while doing certain things infact it seems to selectively slow down.  I attempted to complete a disk check of my C drive.  This has found a few bad sectors which have been either removed during the check or manually however after a week of attempting to run the disk check I have yet to fully complete a single check.  It will freeze at some point on every step and never recover.

I use Trend Micro Titanium as my virus protector and I have even attempted to use their house call software to check if maybe my virus softare was compromised   I have used Spybot search and destroy and CCleaner in an attempt to clear up any clutter and/or spy/malware.  My only conclusion is that maybe some Windows driver was deleted by mistake through CCleaner.  I have attempted to start my computer in safe mode however even this cannot be completed, it freezes and never recovers.Nevertheless, I am at an impass i am unsure on where I go from here and would obviously prefer to fix this myself rather then let some self proclaimed "tech" at a shady I.T. company tell me i need a new computer because they cant figure it out either.

PC Freezes Within Seconds After Boot When Not In Safe Mode?

Apr 6, 2012

I got a BSOD yesterday which was most likely from overheating and now 30-60 seconds after I boot it normally, it freezes yet my mouse still moves. Ten second later, all the screen shows is my background. I've tried system restore, then I went it BIOS and ran a test on the system memory which passed, scanned for malware and spyware, used both CCleaner and IObit Advance SystemCare to clean up registry and junk files, and then defragmented the hard drive expecting that might do something and it still freezes.Edit: I've been looking at the start ups and don't see anything that suspicious.[CODE]

Laptop Freezes Upon Startup Unless In Safe Mode?

Feb 2, 2011

My Toshiba laptop has been overheating lately. Looked online and saw that this is a common problem with Toshibas. As I currently live in Indonesia (from Tennessee originally) I dont know where to buy the spray cleaner things (yes, thats what I call them...lol i dont know the technical name or brand name.) So when it overheats I usually let it cool down for a bit then restart and just try and keep the bottom elevated so it can cool consistently.

Tonight it overheated and when I went to restart, it restarted normally until it got to the main screen. Things looked ok, but when I moved the mouse it moved for just a second and then everything froze. Not just the mouse, I tried hitting tab,etc to make things move but nothing would happen. Not even the trusty ctl-alt-del magic would happen. I restarted into safe mode and things are ok.

Windows 7 Taskbar Freezes (even In Safe Mode)

Jan 8, 2011

About 2 weeks ago my Windows 7 taskbar started to freeze randomly and sometimes many times in a row. I can't click on any taskbar icons or start menu, also I can't close the window currently open, but windows itself works.(ex. i have Firefox open and then comes the freeze, but i can still scroll the page up and down and click on the links, but i can't close/minimize etc.) Only way to unfreeze is press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and open Task Manager and then Close it. I have looked for solution in the internet and. I found that causes of this may be wireless mouse(i don't have wireless mouse), file at C:Program Files (x86)RelevantKnowledge lvknlg.exe and for someone deleting it in Safe Mode has solved the problem, but I don't have such file. I discovered that it freezes even in Safe Mode. I already reinstalled windows and still have freezes. I tried to reinstall graphic drivers but this too didn't help.

When I do this in safe mode, it does not freeze, so that tells me there must be a conflict on my system. I have a suspicion that it's something to do with my ATI graphics driver.

Can't Boot Computer In Normal Mode Or Safe Mode

Oct 5, 2012

I can't boot my computer in normal mode or safe mode. When I try to do so, after the "starting windows" page the only things that come up are my mouse, a black screen/background, and a "logonui.exe-bad image- Authui.dll isn't designed to run on windows" error/message (not the exact message). I can't use a system restore (it can't find a restore point), the image recovery tool finds no image to restore from, system repair either doesn't find a problem or can't fix the problem, and basically nothing else works (none of the advanced boot options or other various buttons and tools do anything noticeable). I've even tried to use sfc in command prompt, but whenever I do any sfc things at all (/scannow, verifyonly, verifyfile, etc.) it says there is a system repair pending that requires a reboot. I've restarted 7-8 times and the exact same message keeps coming up. I'm looking for any general help I can get right now, [I can post my computer specifics in an hour when I have time](posted a few). I have an HP pavilion dv6-6135dx wiht Windows 7 x64.Processor: AMD a8-3500m APU, raedon graphics bios vender/version: insyde, f. 20.I'm having trouble getting more info because my computer is still crashing occasionally and I don't really know what else is relevant; if you need more, I might need directions on how to get it. Especially if it involves command prompt.I should also add that it has been crashing more often than I think is normal ever since I got it, but recently it BSODed 3-4 times a day. I have antivirus and also ran a full malwarebytes scan yesterday, and it only found one little issue which was resolved.

Keyboard And Mouse Do Not Work When Booting/Desktop Freezes/Safe Mode Does Same?

really have never seen anything quite like this. When I boot up my PC and it gets to the desktop, a program window pops up and the mouse and keyboard will not work. Therefore, I cannot clear the program from the desktop or go anywhere to run scans or the like to see if the problem is virus related. When I go into safe mode, it does the same thing. I tried restoring to last known configuration with no System Restore shows no restore points. I can't do anything including get you information on my PC. I am running Windows 7 32 bit on a HP/Compaq DC 7600 C/PD 950. I am running Avast Anti-Virus Suite Pro. Windows 7 Freezes / Loaded Programs Does Not Work - Fine In Safe Mode

Jun 5, 2012

My computer runs like grease lightning in safe mode, and my internet speeds are marvellous also, but alas when not in safe mode I have on quite a few occasions lately had my Windows freeze, my Windows Live Mail also freeze. I will define freeze, everything just does not work, my browser Firefox/Google, none of my loaded programs.

I have to leave the computer for about 10 minutes, and then it is perfect all day!, so I am guessing a program is causing the dilemma, but which one? I have about 60 applications running and I haven't loaded a new one in about 6 months. Is there a program I can purchase/download that would seek out the rogue program if indeed it is a rogue program.

Windows 7 X32 Hangs/freezes Randomly, Only Safe Mode + Networking Works

Sep 3, 2012

I've got a new copy of windows 7 (32 bit version) I have got 4 GB ram only 3,25 in use (like I had on the XP version, running on the same PC) and after I boot up the PC I just look at the desktop, play with some random games, create and delete folders, do some little stress to the RAM or sometimes just doing nothing. The only boot that works is safe mode and its variants.

Things that I've done in the past 7 days:

-I checked RAM integrity - no errors

-Everything is up to date (drivers, everything) - it hanged/froze even with a fresh copy of Windows 7

-I use wireless if that is a problem, found some errors about it and will post them after this list

-enabled services and disabled them VIA msconfig (toying around I found out that it WONT CRASH with any internet service on normal mode)

-I checked Windows 7 compatibility and it's 100% compatible

-Tried to update BIOS but I don't think it will solve anything anyways

-Used dozens of registry cleaners (CCleaner and lots; lots more) - still nothing

-Put a second HDD on my machine with Windows 7 same version, it still crashed, but on the second machine the second HDD works great.

Event 7001: The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start.

Event 10005: DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server: {9E175B6D-F52A-11D8-B9A5-505054503030}

I know that in safe mode, you are limited to what you can do, so I'm not sure if having no sound also is because of the safe mode or if it's related to what ever the problem is with the lap top as a whole.I have talked to a few people about it, some say I may have a virus that has frozen my drivers.I have Malawarebytes, and have run a full scan and nothing came up. Computer Will Only Boot In Safe Mode

Aug 7, 2012

my Sony VAIO VGC-LA3 seems to have a problem. I recently did a clean install of windows 7, which was no problem and completely drama free. I then sourced all the relevant drivers and installed a few essential programs and updates to get the machine up and running. I was then prompted into doing a restart so the updates could be installed. Upon restart the machine came on, start up options flashed up as normal and proceeded to the windows loading screen. The screen then goes black and shows no sign of coming back on until I bet the 'blue screen of death' 5 minutes later. The HDD and WIFI light do flash during these 5 mins. Then the computer restarts after the BSOD and says that Windows wasnt shut down correctly etc I chose to start normally and the same thing happens again. I then chose to start in Safe Mode With Networking and the machine would go through the start up procedure as expected, loading the OS with only basic drivers. I have tried wiping the hard drive and doing another installation of 7, with no success, and have also tried Vista, with the same result.
