Does Windows 7 Delete All The Restoration Points When Disk Is Running
Aug 15, 2012
Wanted to know if Windows 7 has the same feature as windows XP in the case described in the following link? Windows XP deletes all system restoration points when disk space is running low. Does windows 7 do the same thing?
after going through a lot of stress today to fix a certain problem (irrelevant tho') and installed & uninstalled a lot of stuff, I wanted to recover the system to atleast yesterday. But the latest restoration point is today around 7h ago.Is there no way at all to restore the system to yesterday or any day ago? The "error" accured when I shut down my computer yesterday and Windows automatically updatedToday I started the PC and yeah..If there is no other possible way to restore I will explain the problem.
I took the 500GB disk from my dead notebook and decided to keep old data within it as an external storage in a USB case. The drive was bootable as Windows 7 pro x64, but now I want to remove all system folders from it, keeping all backups and private data untouched, but I need special rights for most of the folders/files inside Windows folder: it requests for TrustedInstaller privileges. I'm using a Windows 7 enterprise 32bit, logged in as a AD domain user that is also on local Administrators group. I tried taking ownership, but it failed.
I usually restore machine to factory setting once a year, for various reasons. Although I keep system fairly clean, it still gets slow. I hate spending time to install all the programs and OS updates. Since XP days, I used to take snapshots so that instead of restoring to factory setting, I can restore to a setting where all programs are installed. So far NONE of the programs I used worked as I wished, I could always find some leftover folders/files. I don't remember all the programs I used over the period of time.
Now I am on Windows 7 Home edition 64-bit. I have tried its in-built backup but it just did not work. It failed to recognize the back up. I tried system restore point but its rather pathetic, the system restore points just vanish. I think it keeps last 10 or some restore points. I have not tried any other programs on Windows 7 but Macrium Relfect free edition and Paragon backup and recovery 2012, free edition is under consideration to take a system snapshot.
Bought my new ASUS laptop from Best Buy a week ago. Finally having a chance to get started with it. They gave some good advice, to create a back up disk(s) in case any issues arise. This means I will have to get a USB-operated external DVD drive. Not really a problem, I mean I don't mind doing that. But is it not possible to create the same backup disk on a flash drive?
I just purchased Windows 7 Home Premium to upgrade it from Windows Vista Home Premium, and when I popped in the disc, it does not show up! I tried a different disk, and yes it worked. I also tried putting the Windows 7 disk into my friends computer, and it showed up. I have tried many different things, and nothing works. I've tried re installing the driver, updating it, and several different fixing programs.
I had some files related to my office stored on my computer which i deleted. I want to restore those files back. Is there any way to get back the files on my computer drive.
I had two os partion. C for windows 7 and D for xp. first installed xp on D drive. Then installed windows 7 on C drive. But after installing windows 7 i can't see xp boot option in the boot manager. The system itself is booting into windows 7 only. How can i restore the xp boot options In the windows 7 boot manager.
I was doing a backup of my computer and it did not completely do it, so I have to do it again but the computer is advising I do not have the authorisation to delete the information.
I'm trying to restore my system with recovery cd. The system disc takes but when I put in the first recovery disc it stops and says Restore failed - Error code=1005(the volume does not catain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.)
So I want to perform a disk clean up on my laptop, except I have no idea which items in the list are safe to delete and which are not. I've looked through Google and a lot of sites say it's safe to just delete everything, but I want to make sure.
The following:
Downloaded Program Files - 0 bytes Temporary Internet Files - 0 bytes Game Statistics Files - 3.71 KB Recycling Bin - 0 bytes Service Pack Backup Files - 920 MB System error memory dump files - 5.00 MB
After downloading the latest updates for Google Earth, I began getting a msg saying that "there is not enough disk space on your backup disk." When I attempted to clean it up, I was unable to free up any space. I have a LENOVO 570; the backup disk is labeled: Lenovo: D It says I have @ 10.6MB free out of 29GB Can I delete all the drivers and the applications from the D drive ? And then do a complete restore once the D drive is emptied?
I made a backup image a couple of weeks ago using Paragon Backup & Recovery ,but since that time I have deleted about 80GB of files.
I don't want those files put back on my C drive if I need to do a restore from image. So I want to start fresh with a clean image and then do my scheduled differential back ups.
I can't remember how to wipe the info off the ext. Can't find an answer in the Paragon program.
I have a Dell notebook wiht Windows 7 64-bit that is getting a BSOD (0xF4) and I'm fairly certain is was caused by a rootkit, although I'm not 100% certain. One debugger shows wininit.exe as the culprit and another shows the kernel itself. At any rate, the system will not boot. It gets to where the login dialog is about to show and gets the BSOD. It will not boot in safemode either.Anyway, I've tested the hard drive and memory and I'm fairly certain that it is corrupted and/or rootkit files that is the problem. So I've booted to a Windows 7 repair disk and ran SFC and it tells me that files are corrupted and it can't fix them.Normally I would check the CBS.log file to see what's up, but I'm not sure where the log file is when running SFC from the repair disk. I've searched the "X" drive and the "C" drive, but there's no log files.
When I lost my internet connection I tried to uninstall my wireless program to re-install it. The windows installer wouldn't uninstall so I loaded files from the computers internal restoration disk to repair some old files. Now my computers not working at all. It won't boot up to install the restoration files. It might tell pop in a restoration disk and then say it can't boot up from a dvd drive. How do I boot up my computer and install the new system?
I recently had some problems with my computer and I ended up restoring the computer to its original factory settings. I chose the option of restoring it while keeping user files and what not. Anyways everything was going well up to this point. The screen has been stuck on "Setup is starting up services" (with that loading bar underneath the text) all night.
I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I unplugged everything, except the keyboard, monitor, and the mouse. I did not insert the Windows 7 recovery disc, but I was under the impression that I didn't need them for what I was doing. Do I just manually shut the computer down? Is there something on the keyboard that should abort the process? My computer is a Gateway and I'm using Windows 7.
I have an OCZ Agility 3 as well as a Crucial M4 SSD I thought Id setup everything right but then noticed that the drive only had 100 mb available while following some steps from Seans SSD Optimization guide (I finished Step 3, didn't go to Step 4). I went into disk management, saw that the Agility drive was unallocated and that the drive I was seeing iComputer was actually just a 100 mb partition of the Crucial M4.I then created a new simple volume for the Agility, unassigned the partition drive letter, then tried to delete the partition, though the system didt allow me to (I had confused enabling the Agility drive with simply creating a partition so I thought I should get rid of the partition). After restarting, Im getting the bootmgr missing error, which leads me to the conclusion that I definitely messed something up.
* Ive tried using my original install disc to do a recovery install but then I get the error that:his version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows* Ive also skipped to the command prompt and tried to run the bootrec commands to no avail. The bootrec /scanos command recognizes that Windows is installed on the Crucial M4 but I can't rebuild anything off of it.* I also tried to Custom Install on my drives and am told that I cannot install Windows on either Partition 1 or 2 of my Crucial or the Agility 3. I still see the 100 mb partition there marked as "Primary" while the bigger partition with the actual OS files is marked "System. The error message reads:Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disksI'm not sure what else I can do at this point. I just tried unplugging the drives and observed the following:* If both drives are plugged in, then I am unable to do a custom install of Windows onto any of the M4 partitions or the Agility* If the M4 is plugged in (but the Agility is not), then I also cannot install onto either partition* If only the Agility is plugged, then I **can** install Windows and go into the repair install windows but there is no OS, obviously.
A week ago my hard disk has begin to always running. First I've formatted and for two days always is ok. But now hd has begin to run again. I have stopped windows search service and it's seem to go well. Is there a solution that not involved stopping windows search service? My PC seems slow and sometimes I have to reset. I've checked for virus and there are no weird process in background. I think that perhaps is ccleaner with ccenhancer: perhaps it have cleaned some cache and pc is now rebuilding this cache.
Disk checker was running and my laptop shut off midway through, since then my laptop hasn't been working because windows explorer is not responding. Safe mode works perfectly fine. What could be the problem and how should I resolve it?
Can i run my Asus oem win7 upgrade disk to install win7 on my dell machine? My asus c-mos crashed because of a factory defect before i installed it so now im left with the disk.
So when I leave my computer it goes into hibernation mode, how ever when I come back it acts like its loading and then the POST comes up after that it says: "Your computer can't come out of hibernation.
Any information that was not saved before the computer went into hibernation will be lost."It does this ever time it goes into hibernation, I disabled it and I have no problems now but I want my computer to hibernate because I leave it on all day long and it will wear components out faster and waste power.I have tried updating all the drivers and hardware drivers from the website for the HD but nothing helped.
The " Files to Delete" on disk cleanup are automatically recreated.? Because I check all and some dont appear anymore and other yes are still there but with 0 bytes.

When I try to run Disk Defrag I get this error message, "Disk Defragmentation cannot start because the Task Scheduler service is not running. Start the Task Scheduler service and try again." How can I correct this problem?
Have had this message on my Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop... Cannot not get into the system at all... I have tried the Dell start-up disk, tried the F8 on intial reboot and nothing is working...
I turned my computer on today. When I checked it some time later, I had an error of messages saying lots of files (mostly .dll) could not be found (or something along those lines). Explorer.exe kept crashing, before a constant bombardment of similar messages came up. After a while, clicking ok to all of them, the computer froze. When I tried restarting, I got the message "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"
