I had two os partion. C for windows 7 and D for xp. first installed xp on D drive. Then installed windows 7 on C drive. But after installing windows 7 i can't see xp boot option in the boot manager. The system itself is booting into windows 7 only. How can i restore the xp boot options In the windows 7 boot manager.

I chose the option of restoring it while keeping user files and what not. Anyways everything was going well up to this point. The screen has been stuck on "Setup is starting up services" (with that loading bar underneath the text) all night.
I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I unplugged everything, except the keyboard, monitor, and the mouse. I did not insert the Windows 7 recovery disc, but I was under the impression that I didn't need them for what I was doing. Do I just manually shut the computer down? Is there something on the keyboard that should abort the process? My computer is a Gateway and I'm using Windows 7.
I usually restore machine to factory setting once a year, for various reasons. Although I keep system fairly clean, it still gets slow. I hate spending time to install all the programs and OS updates. Since XP days, I used to take snapshots so that instead of restoring to factory setting, I can restore to a setting where all programs are installed. So far NONE of the programs I used worked as I wished, I could always find some leftover folders/files. I don't remember all the programs I used over the period of time.
Now I am on Windows 7 Home edition 64-bit. I have tried its in-built backup but it just did not work. It failed to recognize the back up. I tried system restore point but its rather pathetic, the system restore points just vanish. I think it keeps last 10 or some restore points. I have not tried any other programs on Windows 7 but Macrium Relfect free edition and Paragon backup and recovery 2012, free edition is under consideration to take a system snapshot.
So when I leave my computer it goes into hibernation mode, how ever when I come back it acts like its loading and then the POST comes up after that it says: "Your computer can't come out of hibernation.

Wanted to know if Windows 7 has the same feature as windows XP in the case described in the following link? Windows XP deletes all system restoration points when disk space is running low. Does windows 7 do the same thing?

1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)
2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"
3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).
4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.
I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.

I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.
If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?
Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?
I wanted to create a new partition to try out linux. So I decided to shrink E: by 20 GB. I then formatted the free space into a new drive by right clicking and creating new simple volume. I was warned that the drive would be made "simple", but not knowing the implications, I went ahead with the procedure. Now on rebooting, windows won't load. I had made a repair disc, so was able to use it to check for any start up errors. It reported none. Moreover I used "diskpart" through cmd to find volume c: is dynamic.

After the resizing a message appeared, which told me that the system information couldnt be updated. After a restart, it - well, it didnt restarted. I tryed to format my C:Windows partition, but Easus decided to randomly format my linux partitin, too. Yey. After that i just formated everything, so i can create one big partition so this never happens again :P. To put it in a nutshel, there is no way to boot besides from booting from a cd. The diagnostic tool of the fabricator is giving me the "error code: BIOHD-3 No bootable drives detected" message.I tried to fix it with a win7 repair disk (just realized, that the disk is for 64bit, i have a 32 bit os - i think it doesnt matter, because there isnt any os installed at all). I used pretty much every "bootrec" command, sucessful, but no change. The startup repair gave this message: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" diskpart - act isnt helping either: "The specified partition type is not valid for this operation."I dont know if i could install any os from a disk - i dont have a bootable installation cd/dvd. Unfortunately as my computer is quite old my hard drive is not very big and with it being partitioned I am fast running out of disk space. So I tried to shrink the XP partition to allow me more disk space for Windows 7. Unfortunatley this would only let me shrink it by 83mb for some reason. I decided that since I barely use XP anymore that I would simply reformat the XP drive then try and merge them together. When I tried to format the partition it just gave the error "Windows was unable to complete the format". I then discovered in Disk Management that the Windows XP partition was the system partition which was causing the problem.
