Hidden Recovery Partition Access

Jul 18, 2011

Got an HP Mini 110 netbook. A person who gave it to me destroyed all the OS system, plus the RAM's were broken. So I replaced them and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Starter 32bit. Everything works fine, but as most new laptops this one has a hidden recovery partition. The problem is I want to restore this machine to factory condition, but I cant access it due to the fact that I dont have HP Recovery Manager or something like that. The recovery partition itself is okay as I saw in Admin Tools. When going to System Recovery Options / System Image Recovery, the process cant detect any image - "Windows cant find a system image on this computer".

what could I use to restore it to factory condition? Maybe there is a software that I can install and use in the same way as HP Recovery Manager? Or maybe I can get HP Recovery Manager somewhere. so that you know, I also tried the F6 and itc methods, no luck.

Creating Hidden OS Install Partition

Oct 17, 2011

I'll make this one short. I had some time ago a GX623 laptop that had a hidden partition from where I installed win7. If anything went wrong, i just asked the laptop on startup to run the recovery manager, and boom, factory settings in 20 minutes flat (cleaned HDD). Now I am planning to get myself a reduced version of the 780DX MSI laptop (normally 2 hdds in raid 0), and i want to get a SSD as boot and a fw extras drive. The problem is i wanted to have that hidden partition on the SSD (and i plan to buy it apart and put it in myself once i figure out the laptop is stable). How to create your own hidden OS install partition...

Acer Aspire 5738G Missing Hidden Partition?

May 23, 2012

my Acer Aspire 5738G to factory settings. (I've done it before and i never seemed to have a problem). I know it should be simple to do this, by simply pressing "Alt" and "F10" at the Acer Splashpage when you bootup, and going to the acer eRecovery page. But when i do this i get the error message."HDD RECOVERY VALIDATION FAILED" I've tried my hardest, searched all over google for a solution, but every problem seems to be different. And i can't figure out what is particularly wrong with my computer. I am only an amateur when it comes to computers, and disks, partitions, locating partitions, etc etc is not my strong suit. Is there anyway i can check if the hidden partition "PQservice" is still in my drives? If it helps in anyway, i though i might mention that the previous time i restored back to factory settings. When i completed it, i didn't fully complete the windows installation process, and now whenever i log into my computer, it mentions that my "windows is not yet genuine, click here to register it blah blah blah". I didn't bother doing it because i assumed it wasn't vital, i was and have still been able to use my computer fine for the past year or so without having to do it.

Can't Format Partition For Install

Jul 19, 2010

I'm trying to install windows 7 64bit OEM but in the custom install options i can't format the partition i want to install to. The partitions were created under XP on a secondary drive, which will now be the primary drive, XP will be wiped later and that drive i have actually disconnected for the time being. The only options i can access are "refresh" and "load driver"

I'm not too sure whether i need an updated sata driver controller (asus M2N AM2 mobo - nforce controller) or i need to make the partition active using something like the diskpart utility.I've looked at the asus website and there are no updated sata drivers for windows 7 or even vista 64bit, only a beta raid driver.

Or is it the partitions themselves since they were created under XP (although i don't think its this)I've found some posts on here with similair sounding problems but hoping someone with a bit more knowledge can tell me which is most likely to be the cause and save me a bit of time.

Unable To Format/Delete Old Partition?

Feb 10, 2011

I recently upgrade my entire computer, with it i brought a 2TB WD HDD. I set everything up, installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers/etc.

I then moved my old 3x 1TB drives over, in it, one partition had my old Windows 7, I am unable to format/delete windows folder/program files. One HDD had my old Vista partition, same story..i can't format/delete.

What i basically want to do is, take those 3 drives, format and re-set them into 1TB 1 Parition drives. Now i have 1.6TB space left on my 2TB drive, so i can put one entire drive over and format the old, repartition to 1...

How can i get about this? I don't understand why the boot system will have problems because when i installed Windows 7 it had no other drives to see..

How To Install Upgrade To Format First Partition ?

Oct 20, 2009

I just tested this with Windows 7 Upgrade disk:

MS makes it clear that using Windows 7 Upgrade disk with XP requires a clean (Custom) install, which most people assume means over the same XP. This can be done, and places your files in windows.old for redistribution. This is only an option for Vista, since you can do an in-place upgrade which reinstalls your programs, files and settings.

You can also direct the clean install to another formatted partition or second primary formatted HDD which allows for a cleaner install. The problem is that you may still have XP in the first partition on the same HDD, which you probably will not want for long, and a laptop is hard to connect to a second HDD. Plus, an OS in an outer HDD partition takes a fraction longer to be read by the laser.

But there is a way to install from XP with an Upgrade disk to to a clean formatted first partition. Here is the way I did it:

Use a Partition manager like Paragon or Easeus to copy your XP partition over to a partition other than the first (or install XP to another partition) then use EasyBCD to Add it to the Boot Menu if necessary.

Now comes the hat trick: Boot into the new XP partition and use Disk Management to mark it active, then go to Control Panel>Folder options and show hidden system files. Make sure boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect.com are in the roots of both OS drives so you can boot back into XP later.

Now delete and format the first partition using Disk Management (or Easeus) from the XP desktop, then without rebooting install WIndows 7 to the first partition. After install, you can copy files over from XP via explorer and then hide or delete the XP partition, because you now have the best operating system ever and it's installed on formatted metal from an Upgrade disk.

Be sure to use Windows 7's great new imaging backup to image your installation after you get it like you want it, so you'll never have to reinstall again.

Cannot Format Memory Stick Or Partition In Windows 7

Jul 17, 2011

Recently, after trying to format a memory stick I have encountered some problems:

- After right clicking on the stick or on a partition and selecting format, nothing happens. Literally nothing, its like I didn't press it.
- Another a bit troubling issue, is that when I tried to scan with my antivirus, I get that the scan engine cant initialize, although the whole software works. I am using Bitdefender Internet Security 2010

I am currently scanning with ESET Online Scanned for viruses, to be sure I don't have a nasty one, but from what I see is that other then that, everything works fine. Finished the scan, with no issues. Also the troubling memory stick, i went to another PC, and was virus free and also was easily formatted. So i am afraid is something related to the system or something like that.

Delete The Partition Or Format During Clean Install?

Once you get to the Custom (Advanced) tab of Windows 7 clean install there are options to delete the partition, format, etc. Assuming I want to delete all of my partitions so that I have one large volume C: is it best to delete the partitions first and then format? Why would someone do one over the other (or both?) Right now I have a C: partition and a D:RECOVERY partition. I want to delete the D: partition and combine it to the C: partition.Don't they do the same thing? Why do you need to format after you delete a partition ? Do I also delete the C: partition and "re-create" it? What about the term "Unallocated Space"

Cloning Windows 7 Partition To External HDD W/ Mac OS Extended Format

Nov 10, 2012

I recently switched from a Mac to a PC. I cloned my system partition of my PC to my external hard disk, and I only realized later that the external HDD was in a Mac OS extended (journaled) format. I thought I would have to format that partition as NTFS and re-clone afterwards. I tried to remove that partition using Disk Utilities on my Mac but got an error message. Surprisingly, though, when I connected the external HDD to my PC, I can access that partition under My Computer, and when I open Disk Management that partition is listed as NTFS.

1) How can I tell if the cloned partition on my external HDD is ok?
2) Should I reformat it and start from scratch instead?
3) If so, should I be making an image OR a clone of my system disk (so that I can boot from my external HDD and restore my system if my internal HDD fails)?
