I just purchased Windows 7 Home Premium to upgrade it from Windows Vista Home Premium, and when I popped in the disc, it does not show up! I tried a different disk, and yes it worked. I also tried putting the Windows 7 disk into my friends computer, and it showed up. I have tried many different things, and nothing works. I've tried re installing the driver, updating it, and several different fixing programs.

I bought a ASUS that had a failed c-mos from the factory. only 2 months after i bought it. Before that happen i ordered the asus OEM Windows 7 upgrade disk then my computer crashes now today the disk came. Can i use this asus oem upgrade disk to upgrade my dell vista to Windows 7? Will it change my needed drivers for my dell and install asus drivers.
Or is this simply just an upgrade disk similar to the one you buy retail expect for the key restrictions and will work to upgrade my other computer? both are x64 my dell vista and the asus Windows 7 upgrade.

when I booted up my computer, I got a message saying "You're copy of windows is not genuine". So now the back of my desktop is black and says "Windows is not genuine". So then I downloaded the update from microsoft. Now so when I try to enter my key I get the error "0xC004F074 The Software Protection Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information." So I ran my AVS and found quite a few threats and removed them. But still I get that error.

I am about to install Windows 7 64 bit on a new-build PC, so it will be a new install and on a new formatted hard drive. I have three other hard drives on which all the program and other files were created under Vista 32 bit. I know I can transfer the files which are installed on my Vista boot hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer, but when I am running Windows 7 will it recognise all the programs and files on the existing drives if I just leave them there?

I have a Sony VAIO notebook, Model VGN-AR52DB, which I bought in Japan about 5 years ago. The computer has an Intel Core 2 CPU; T5500 @ 1.66 GHz; 2046 MB RAM; 32 bit OS; Direct X 10; Phoenix NoteBIOS 4.0, Release 6.1.I've never used the computer much, mainly because it runs Vista (Home Premium), which I don't like. The computer is still in great shape, so I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 (or maybe 8?).
The Microsoft website tells me that if I want to run Windows 7, I need a 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) processor; 1 GB RAM; and DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver. So it looks like the computer will handle Windows 7. Right? (But I'm not sure what the "WDDM 1.0" signifies....) My main question is this: Given the above-mentioned specs, would Windows 7 (either Home Premium or Professional) run alright on my Sony VAIO VGN-AR52DB? Also, for the new Windows 8, the minimum hardware requirements also appear to be IA-32 architecture; 1 GHz (with PAE, NX and SSE2 support) processor; 1 GB RAM; and DirectX 9 graphics device, again "with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver." Here, I'm not sure what the "with PAE, NX and SSE2 support" means.
Question #2: Would Windows 8 also run on my machine and, if so, would it be better to wait and get Windows 8, or just go with Windows 7?

I have a Dell notebook wiht Windows 7 64-bit that is getting a BSOD (0xF4) and I'm fairly certain is was caused by a rootkit, although I'm not 100% certain. One debugger shows wininit.exe as the culprit and another shows the kernel itself. At any rate, the system will not boot. It gets to where the login dialog is about to show and gets the BSOD. It will not boot in safemode either.Anyway, I've tested the hard drive and memory and I'm fairly certain that it is corrupted and/or rootkit files that is the problem. So I've booted to a Windows 7 repair disk and ran SFC and it tells me that files are corrupted and it can't fix them.Normally I would check the CBS.log file to see what's up, but I'm not sure where the log file is when running SFC from the repair disk. I've searched the "X" drive and the "C" drive, but there's no log files.

A week ago my hard disk has begin to always running. First I've formatted and for two days always is ok. But now hd has begin to run again. I have stopped windows search service and it's seem to go well. Is there a solution that not involved stopping windows search service? My PC seems slow and sometimes I have to reset. I've checked for virus and there are no weird process in background. I think that perhaps is ccleaner with ccenhancer: perhaps it have cleaned some cache and pc is now rebuilding this cache.

Right now I will upgrade my Vista laptop to Windows 7 . I already did it before with the RC and worked great.
Anyways there are certain functions on my laptop I use . So that's why I didn't do a clean install. But if there is any problem and I need to reinstall windows. I will have to install Vista first . Till SP1 is the best I believe and then again Windows 7 .
A big hassle if you ask me?
Is there a way to make a boot-able DVD or something of my laptop once I upgraded to windows 7 and I take kind of a snapshot of that moment.
or something else'
Like when i got my laptop I had to make 2 DVD's so I could reinstall windows. Was hoping I could do the same with Windows7 somehow.
Another thing is. I have an English Windows Vista on a machine but will get a Dutch windows 7 upgrade. I don't think I can upgrade from a English to Dutch right? Although the upgrade is Ultimate?
I also can install an English version of Ultimate and use the key from the Dutch ultimate? or is the key from the box really only for the DVD that's in the box ?

After I got my new laptop, I installed antivirus, windows updates, etc, removed bloatware and installed the software that I actually use. Then I created my System Repair disk (single disk). Does this disk include all software and windows updates that were on my computer at the time I created the disk? I have read that System Repair disks will only have the factory settings of Windows 7, but I don't know if this is the case for all System Repair disks or only those that came with the computer and were made before the computer was purchased?I've also read that a System Repair disk could include a system image. Is this true and done by default when the System Repair disk is created?

Bought my new ASUS laptop from Best Buy a week ago. Finally having a chance to get started with it. They gave some good advice, to create a back up disk(s) in case any issues arise. This means I will have to get a USB-operated external DVD drive. Not really a problem, I mean I don't mind doing that. But is it not possible to create the same backup disk on a flash drive?

I have a workstation on a gaming rig. I work and play games on it. I wanted to ask if I could separate my work files and GAMES setups (installed files) so they don't harm my work data.I do play games with cheats/hacks and they mostly contain malicious files which can damage my operating system. I want to create a seperate DISK image like Vmware in which I can run games without being worried about any harmful files accessing my work partition.

Its a bit complicated to state my situation, anyways, I have 2 HDD, and the PC won't boot if I removed the old HDD even though I've formatted the old HDD and win7 is on the new HDD.I have 2 physical HDD in PC
(1) 80GB old hdd and noisy. (not SATA)
(2) 500GB SATA hdd and sexy.
My powersupply only supports 1 SATA connection, and I don't have a DVD-Rom.I've unpluged the (2) and replaced it with my dad's SATA DVD-Rom to clean install Win7 64bit on the old (1), after I've finished, I removed the SATA DVD-Rom, I plugged back the (2), installed Win7 64bit ISO again from the (1) on (2), then I organized everything and split the (2) to E: and F:.
Everything's fine until I wanted to remove the old noisy hdd. When I did that, the PC started to bitch on me and didn't want to boot from (2).I've tried to rename (2)'s letter to C:, but it gave me 'invalid parameter' error. I doubt that it'll work by itself since it'll need to rename all the softwares' locations and stuff.so I went through another way, renaming (1) to a random letter like K: and wishing that'll work, I've restarted, shutdown'ed, and unplugged (1), didn't boot from (2).So it left me with only and only solution is by clean install, -but- I can't do it since I don't have an old dvd-rom nor do I have 2 SATA PSU cables... so I go back to the begging and...know that I have only 1 option by installing the win, is by the iso.
Now, what I'm thinking is that there's a possible way(maybe?) that I can replace Disk 0 box by Disk 1 box. Here's a picture to clarify it.So that's it, notice the 2 boxes down there? I'd like to switch Disk 0 by Disk 1 and then remove the old crappy 80gb hdd.
