Dell XPS Windows 7 64-bit Won't Boot Past Classpnp.sys File

Feb 10, 2013

I've been scouring the internet trying to fix a boot issue with my Dell XPS 420. It worked fine last week but on Saturday started to blue screen. I installed a new HD and installed a fresh copy of Win7 64-bit. I reinstalled my ATI video drivers but nothing else (e.g. I had to update a load of codecs for Win7 on the other install). I tried booting again from the original hard drive and everything came back with no errors. I left the PC up overnight, and now I get the same blue screen with various errors. So I disconnected from that hard drive and tried to boot from the fresh install, now it blue screens there as well. So I hit F8 and tried to boot in Safemode with Networking. Hangs at the casspnp.sys file. Then tried to boot from the DVD and repair but the repair only gets so far and yet another blue screen.I have 8gb of RAM onboard, and I have an ATI 2400 video card installed that is jacked into a Panasonic plasma display. Other than that, I've not customized anything else. I've ruled out the RAM as I swapped it out. Could be the DVD as it was having what appeared to be I/O issues. However, it seems to work fine with I press F12 and boot from the DVD. I have this PC connected to a Port Authority KVM. I've reset the KVM as well. I also have a USB hub in the mix as well. I reseated my RAM, the DVD cables.

PC Won't Boot Past Dell BIOS Screen / Just Keeps Rebooting

having problems with my PC rebooting since restarting to finish the installation of the latest Windows Update. Loads only to the Dell BIOS screen and then reboots again. I can hit F2 or F12, but not sure what to do when I do. I thought that running in Safe Mode and uninstalling the last update would be the way to go, but not sure how to get into Safe Mode.

Windows 7 Hangs On CLASSPNP.SYS - Even When Using A Boot Disk?

Sep 10, 2011

So I really have no idea where to start, I can usually fix things myself but I can't even get to somewhere useful.I have made no hardware or firmware or any changes since last successful boot. Mac OS X boots up fine from my second HDD (my laptop has PC architecture, it's not Apple). Removing this second (OS X) HDD and then attempting boot makes no difference. What gives? If I can't boot from a Windows USB then...it must be hardware related? But Windows was working fine with exactly the same hardware for ages. Plus it's all still recognised in Mac OS X, so nothing has suddenly broken. My 4x4GB RAM SODIMMs are still fine, so is the CPU and GPU, sound card, wireless card...I really don't know what I'm looking for.

Classpnp.sys, Black Screen During Startup Repair And Boot?

Dec 20, 2011

1 year back I upgraded vista to windows 7 Home premium.3 days back I had problem - my starting windows page was hanged and was not proceeding forward, also All types of safe mode was getting stuck on classpnp.sys.After reading many forums I booted with USB (mounted with windows 7) and used command prompt and deleted all "pcmcia" realted files from C drive. Now using F8 function I can't use any option (all option safe mode, low resolution, startup repair, etc won't work, even changes in Bios setting won't work). Also now while booting my PC with USB, after starting windows page, black screen appears with white arrow and it won't go further this black screen so now I can't even use command prompt & Installation option

Windows 7 Didn't Back Up Past File?

Dec 19, 2011

I used Windows backup and restore to backup my files, and I let Windows choose which files to back up. Then my boyfriend dropped a heavy speaker on my computer and destroyed my internal hard drive, and when I restored my files from my external hard drive to a new computer, my most recent pst file was missing. There were a couple of old ones backed up, but not the most recent one, and I lost about three years' worth of e-mails.

Windows 7 Dell Inspiron 1545 Won't Get Past Repair Screen?

Nov 29, 2012

I've tried F8, F2, and F12 to get to safe mode or startup options but all I ever get is the option to either start normally or launch repair. The function keys appear to do nothing. Launch normally doesn't work and just cycles me back to the two options again. Repairing just keeps "repairing" with nothing ever happening indefinitely. It will ask in the beginning if I want to restore to a different time, and if I click yes, nothing happens except that it keeps "repairing". There's nothing important on the hard drive that needs to be saved. I want to reformat, but I didn't get any disks with the computer, since it said I could use Dell Restore on my desktop, which of course I can't access now. Is there any free, safe program I can use to boot it up and restore? And can I even use a disk to restore if I can't access the advanced boot options to change it to "boot from disk"?

From the 2 options given I chose "Start Windows Normally"....After pressing Enter it will not go beyond the black screen where it says "Starting Windows" and inmediately reboots to the "Windows Error Recovery" again.I then chose the other option which is "Launch Startup Repair", entered the Disk, wait for it to load system files but it reboots to the Disk loading the files again like an eternal loop.Tried the F8 Advance booting options, chose "boot in safe mode with command prompt", it starts loading but then it reboots itself again!!I don t know what is going on, this is very strange, yesterday I worked all day in the computer..My system specs are these:>XFX Nforce 750i SLI>Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2666 MHz>3x2gb Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 DIMM DDR2 PC2-6400U DDR2-800 (5-5-5-18 3-22-6-3)>ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series>WD Caviar Blue 500gb

Windows 7 Won't Boot Past Bios?

Aug 6, 2012

In the chaos of moving to a new house yesterday, a box my friend was moving ripped and a bottle of beer smashed onto my open and powered on laptop, scattering both liquid and glass everywhere. We immediately powered down and removed the battery, and placed the laptop upside down and mopped up the excess liquid from the outside as much as possible, and set it to dry upside down on a towel. My laptop is a Lenovo U330, I had my brother install Windows 7 on it for me last year, but he kept the disks so I don't have any of them.Several hours & some blowdrying later, we attempted to start up the laptop (I would have preferred to wait longer, but I needed to know if mine would work in case I needed to borrow my friend's for the week). The laptop will load the lenovo startup screen, and then flash the windows loadings screen (with the option to press f2 or f12) for a few seconds before recommending that I run startup repair. Which if I select it, will freeze after a few seconds. Usually my laptop's pretty noisy, but while the battery light flashes as if there is activity going on, there's no noise coming from it at all.

Windows 7 Won't Boot Past EVGA P55 Splash Screen After Update

Jul 18, 2010

I have been using my Windows 7 x64 system for about 5 months without a problem. I booted it yesterday, and an autoupdate occurred as soon as Windows 7 started up. It looked like this autoupdate made changes to /COMPONENTS. As soon as it finished, the system rebooted, and got stuck on the eVGA P55 splash screen. It was stuck there for about 10 minutes, so I manually shut down the computer. Every time I turn it on now, I get stuck on the eVGA P55 splash screen. I can not get into safe mode or anything. Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this? Did some stupid Windows autoupdate crash my new computer? I am turning those off if that is what happened.

Windows 7 Newly Built Computer Won't Boot Past Logo Sometimes

Feb 23, 2012

Alright I am running Windows 7 ultimate x64 on my newly built computer. My computer can successfully boot past the bios and get to the logo screen. Then I get to the Windows logo which is a hit or miss. Sometimes it will boot successfully and I will have no problems whatsoever and I can enjoy my computer without worrying about anything. Then sometimes it will get hung on the logo and it will just stop responding. I don't know if this is an issue with my HDD or maybe my power supply. I think that this may be a problem with my power supply because I notice that my keyboard LED turns of when it hangs like that. The only question then is "why is this not a consistent problem that I can isolate?"

Here are my specs:

Windows 7 Stuck In Safe-mode Loop CLASSPNP.sys

Oct 19, 2012

I went into msconfig on the work laptop and changed the boot to safe boot network, as soon as I went to boot up the laptop and get into safe mode, the laptop freezes at CLASSPNP.sys then I have to reboot.I need to get it to boot back into windows normally, but even selecting "Start windows normally" sends it to safe mode because I set it to boot there in msconfig. What can I possibly do? I've tried running start up repair but says it cannot repair the issue. Due to security, the laptop hard drive has been encrypted with truecrypt, and therefore when I put the OS DVD in to try and do something from the command prompt, there are no OS's listed as installed so cannot alter the bootmbr or any windows files.

HP G62 - 144DX Won't Boot Past HP Screen?

May 16, 2012

I can't get into the BIOS options to see what's wrong or to boot from a flash drive or CD, either. It just sits at the startup screen with the HP logo and says something to the effect of "Press the ESC key for startu options". Pressing ESC, however, does nothing (none of the F keys help either, I tried that).Anyway, here's how I messed things up. I was trying to install openSuse to my Windows 7 computer. First I went into my start menu and searched partitions, so I could change those. When I was first installing openSuse told me it was going to format all of my partitions, so I backed out to change those manually. I shrank my largest partition, which has the Windows operating system on it by the maximum it allowed (16,142 MB or something like that. It was a little under 16 gigs).

After doing that openSuse told me it was going to install to sda6, I believe, and when I checked the memory of the partitions it seemed to match up. When I went to install it after making the changes, it didn't say that it would format my partitions. I figured that this meant I was good and everything would install fine, and it definitely appeared to. I didn't change any settings or anything, but instead just installed everything as default from my flash drive using the 4.7 GB DVD download for a 32 bit PC (mine is a 64 bit, but I wasn't paying attention).

Will Not Boot Up Past Loading Screen

Nov 15, 2009

Ok, so iv put this computer together, installed windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and i got it up and running perfect for like a day.

The next morning i switched it on and was working good for couple of hours then it seemed like the whole computer started to slow down and i got a blue screen error. so i rebooted and tried to start windows but, it then says windows is loading files then goes to the logo loading and after that it just goes to a black screen!? iv tried everything to get it back running safe mode, low res mode, repair, boot from disk etc but nothing.

So i thought i would try and put the HD in another computer and wipe it to re-install windows but when i put it in another comp it does the same thing.. does the logo loading and then to black screen

Iv found that when i remove the HD from my PC and boot from the windows 7 disk then it gets to the windows 7 installation bit so do you think it could be a problem with the HD?

Windows 7 Will Not Boot Past Starting Windows Or In Safemode

Jan 6, 2012

I am trying to fix a friends labtop. I have been on the internet trying to find an answer but nothing works from answers on internet. When you turn the computer on it shows, Windows Error Recovery. Either Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. I use Launch Startup Repair and the screen goes blank after a couple of minutes the mouse comes up and can be moved but the screen stays blank. I have pushed buttons nothing has happened, it stays here, so I have to turn it off. It starts all over again. So I try Starting Windows Normally, it will just stay at the Starting Windows logo. It will stay here forever. The windows logo will fade with the color but it will stay here. I will then turn it off and try booting in Safemode. It starts with the drivers loading but then it freezes on Loaded:windowssystem32DRIVERSAtiPcie.sys. This is for all three of safemode options. I have tried all the other boots in the options and none of them work. They all will just freeze on starting windows or go to blank screen. So I tried to boot to Windows 7 CD. I put it in and nothing comes up. There is no Click on keys to boot from cd, but the cd does make noise like it is doing something. It will just be on a blank screen. I have also reset the bios to factory.

Windows 7 Hangs At 'Starting Windows' CLASSPNP.SYS?

Sep 3, 2012

I upgraded my Phenom and MSI mobo to a Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 & FX-6200 Bulldozer. ll worked relatively okay. It would crash after around 2-3 hours use, consistently.Temps were not too high, but very very strange, they were fluctuating around 7-8 degrees a second, never going above 35 or below 25 celsius, but every second it would drop or incresase by around 7 degrees and the fan would spin much faster/slower in parallel with this.I updated BIOS using @BIOS (Which I know learn doesn't work) which gave me many issues. I managed to load the original F2 BIOS back on via usb, however that left me in a state where my PC would turn on (lights/fans on) but nothing more, nothing on display or anything. Using my old Phenom I managed to update the BIOS to the latest (F12), where it would now boot with my bulldozer.

When I say boot, it was not recognising my HDD. It is recognised in BIOS and in command prompt, but it is not deteced via the windows installer. After many attempts to resolve this the one that worked was the cleanall function in command prompt. SInce it has been detected I have installed and reinstalled Windows about 3-4 times (setting the drive as AHCI, IDE, using optimisid defaults etc) but it now has this issue where it either hangs at 'starting windows', it hangs for a second at 'starting windows' and then BSOD's and reboots, or (when i try to boot into safe mode) it stops at the CLASSPNP.sys driver and then BSOD's and reboots. As I have said my BOIS is fully up to date and functional, and I have tried all the different settings, in particular AHCI/IDE and the optimised and fail safe defaults. I have also ensured all unecessary USB drivers or accessories are disconnected on boot/windows install

Cannot Boot Into Windows 7 / File /boot/BCD Is Missing With An Error Code Of 0x0000007

Mar 26, 2011

I cannot boot into Windows because it says that the file /boot/BCD is missing with an error code of 0x0000007. If I run Repair from my installation disk and in System Recovery Options, it says that it has detected problems and asks if I want to repair it. The items it wants to repair are: " The following startup option will be repaired:Name: {bootmgr}Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}

The following startup options will be added:

Name: Windows 7 Ultimate (recovered)
Path: Windows
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)
Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recovery9426aa67-30ff-11e0-a348-506313b5e718Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as C:BootBCD.Backup.0002"If I click yes, it says that it cannot save the current settings for the BCD and refuses to continue. When I choose Startup Repair, it attempts to fix the problem but fails.

The problem details are:

Root cause found:
No OS files found on disk.
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code: 0x3bc3

I think that this is because Startup Repair is trying to fix the thumbdrive that I keep my Windows 7 install files in. I am overseas now and as my computer does not have an internal optical disk drive and my external drive is back home, thus using my thumbdrive is the only way to access the repair console.

I tried running a few commands, namely:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Fixmbr and fixboot work, but when I run RebuildBCD, it detects C:Windows as having a Windows installation, but if I type Y(yes) or A(all), it says that the requested system device cannot be found.

I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I am able to access the BIOS setup, but can't make any changes because the touchpad will not move the pointer. A USB mouse will allow the pointer to move, but not when I'm in the BIOS setup.

How To Boot Windows 7 From A File And Not From A DVD Or Bootable USB

Oct 25, 2012

My DVD ROM is causing problems and frequently not working. I am currently using Windows 7 32 bit. I would like to perform a clean reinstallation of Windows 7 on my PC. I have the Windows 7 DVD.

I know about creating a bootable USB or a bootable DVD. But I dont want to format my USB drive to make it a bootable USB device. My Questions are--

1. Instead are there any ways to boot from a file in a USB flash drive, without formatting and making a bootable USB device?

2. I would also like to learn about the basics of high level formatting. I searched google and have read articles at kioskea and howstuffworks, but none has exclusive easy articles on How Formatting Works and How to Format any Disks (including USB drives).
