Classpnp And Start Up Repair
Jun 6, 2012
I recently had a windows 7 start up problem. I tried to boot in safe mode but it hung on classpnp.sys and then went to start up repair. It has been trying to fix errors for nearly 9 hours so i figure its not actually working.I have tried to cancel the operation but when i hit the cancel button it says i cannot cannot cancel the repair operation.I have tried to pull the power, but it then just goes through the same cycle and i end up back at the start up repair screen and in able to cancel it or go any further. I cant even get to the repair menu.I figure that i need to reformat and reinstall windows.

1 year back I upgraded vista to windows 7 Home premium.3 days back I had problem - my starting windows page was hanged and was not proceeding forward, also All types of safe mode was getting stuck on classpnp.sys.After reading many forums I booted with USB (mounted with windows 7) and used command prompt and deleted all "pcmcia" realted files from C drive. Now using F8 function I can't use any option (all option safe mode, low resolution, startup repair, etc won't work, even changes in Bios setting won't work). Also now while booting my PC with USB, after starting windows page, black screen appears with white arrow and it won't go further this black screen so now I can't even use command prompt & Installation option

Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

My dell n5030 laptop isnt getting past the windows start up screen. It boots up fine up to the part where the four balls become the windows logo, but then freezes there everytime. When i try to select the windows start up repair it blacks out the screen and I cant do anything.
I know its not a faulty hard drive because its newly fitted and this problem occured previously on a different hard drive aswell.

Earlier today my second GTX 680 came in the mail. I opened up my PC to install it and after putting it in and attempting to boot my PC it gets stuck while loading windows. I tried safe mode and it got stuck on classpnp.sys. I've attempted removing my second 680, my SSD, put in a boot CD. Nothing seems to be working.

So I really have no idea where to start, I can usually fix things myself but I can't even get to somewhere useful.I have made no hardware or firmware or any changes since last successful boot. Mac OS X boots up fine from my second HDD (my laptop has PC architecture, it's not Apple). Removing this second (OS X) HDD and then attempting boot makes no difference. What gives? If I can't boot from a Windows USB then...it must be hardware related? But Windows was working fine with exactly the same hardware for ages. Plus it's all still recognised in Mac OS X, so nothing has suddenly broken. My 4x4GB RAM SODIMMs are still fine, so is the CPU and GPU, sound card, wireless card...I really don't know what I'm looking for.

I've been scouring the internet trying to fix a boot issue with my Dell XPS 420. It worked fine last week but on Saturday started to blue screen. I installed a new HD and installed a fresh copy of Win7 64-bit. I reinstalled my ATI video drivers but nothing else (e.g. I had to update a load of codecs for Win7 on the other install). I tried booting again from the original hard drive and everything came back with no errors. I left the PC up overnight, and now I get the same blue screen with various errors. So I disconnected from that hard drive and tried to boot from the fresh install, now it blue screens there as well. So I hit F8 and tried to boot in Safemode with Networking. Hangs at the casspnp.sys file. Then tried to boot from the DVD and repair but the repair only gets so far and yet another blue screen.I have 8gb of RAM onboard, and I have an ATI 2400 video card installed that is jacked into a Panasonic plasma display. Other than that, I've not customized anything else. I've ruled out the RAM as I swapped it out. Could be the DVD as it was having what appeared to be I/O issues. However, it seems to work fine with I press F12 and boot from the DVD. I have this PC connected to a Port Authority KVM. I've reset the KVM as well. I also have a USB hub in the mix as well. I reseated my RAM, the DVD cables.

I went into msconfig on the work laptop and changed the boot to safe boot network, as soon as I went to boot up the laptop and get into safe mode, the laptop freezes at CLASSPNP.sys then I have to reboot.I need to get it to boot back into windows normally, but even selecting "Start windows normally" sends it to safe mode because I set it to boot there in msconfig. What can I possibly do? I've tried running start up repair but says it cannot repair the issue. Due to security, the laptop hard drive has been encrypted with truecrypt, and therefore when I put the OS DVD in to try and do something from the command prompt, there are no OS's listed as installed so cannot alter the bootmbr or any windows files.

Ok I have a Dell Inspiron N7110. I kept getting the blue screen of death , ran all the registry cleaners, virus checkers, malware fixers I had, nothing ever showed up. all came back clean. but i still got the blue screen of death.. I even ran Combo fix to no avail. decided to do a Dell system backup restore. Since then I am stuck in a start up loop. I cant even boot from my cd drive succesfully now.Called Dell they ran the typical tests, ( ones I already did) and found nothing wrong with it, told me its not hardware issue that my warranty covers sent me to software issue department. ran the tests again. and he determined he can fix it but its not covered.I could buy their warranty for $250 which will cover me for a year for any software problems.. or pay $150 for the one time help that he could fix it but would not tell me what was wrong with it. I asked for the OS disk to be sent to me so I could try to do a new install from disk.. he said he could but it wouldnt help me so he wont. I am sickened by this customer support its obviously an issue with their backup crap.. I have a win 7 disk from my sons computer and I can't even run it as when I choose boot from CD it still goes right to start up repair so I can even do that.

My dell inspiron n5110 is having issues starting up!I was using the computer when all of a sudden it turned off and restarted itself. as it turned on a window popped up named "windows error recovery" with in that it says "windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.IF windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. if power was interrupted during startup, choose stat windows normally." The two options i have are launch startup repair or start windows normally. if i do start windows normally it restarts and goes back to this screen. when i did launch startup repair it did its thing and once it was done it said "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"then i clicked on show problem details and this is exactly what it saysProblem signaturei

tried doing a system restore but it got an error. Once that happend i went and tried doing a dell datasafe restore to factory settings from a image file. once it was finished a restart button popped up. once i restarted it the computer still said windows failed to start and it took me to the startup repair option again. Please help me out, this computer is not even a week old. i can't bare tell my mother it already isn't working!edit before i did the dell datasafe factory restore when i would enter the system recovery options it would ask for my user name and password that i had on the computer now that i did the dell datasafe restore it automatically puts "administrator" as the username and nothing as the password and it lets me go to the recovery options. so this makes me believe that it was successful in being restored to factory settings, yet i still have this problem?edit edit- i forgot to mention there is a blue screen that pops up real quick before it restarts and gives the two options. there was a stop code on that screen

So I just finished installing Windows 7 on a Gateway 32-Bit Laptop. It was originally Windows Vista. As it starts up, It takes me to the System Recovery Options menu where I pick my OS. I choose Windows 7 and I am greeted with another window. I can choose to Startup Repair or System Restore, etc. I choose Startup Repair and after it is done, it says,
"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this messgae, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistence."

I got the "infinite repair start up" sequence on my laptop. I googled and tried all the fixes, but none seemed to work for me. So, I got a fresh download of Win 7 (it's the free trial version) and am trying to install it.It seems to go fine, but then it says it cannot find the drivers for my dvd drive. I have the Dell drivers disk (not sure if the driver is even on there... never used it before) but it doesn't seem to find anything on it.

Problem: This morning I had a brief 1 second power outage while I was using my computer which forced it to shutdown. It just stood there shutting down for about 15 minutes when i decided to click force shutdown. After restarting, computer ran checkdisk and startuip repair because windows was not loading.
Issues; I ran chkdsk a couple times, lots of bad sectors./index files repairing recovering, but it ends up hanging at stage 4 at a certain spot. I left it running at that spot for over 5 hours and just stood there(I went to sleep and woke up at same spot). I booted with windows 7 cd and tried startup repair, the first 3 times it said it couldnt repair. It only showed 2 restore points available and both gave error messages saying they couldnt load. I ran a checkdsk /r again and was fixing a lot of stuff and hung at same spot again. Tried another startup repair, this time it said it worked but still the same problem, windows isnt loading. However, I am able to get to the login screen now after waiting about 10 minutes at the windows logo however my kieyboard/mouse functionaility seems to be gone so i cant even type my password to login at that point. I ran a diagnostic in the boot menu, when checking the harddrive it gave me an error. Ive tried booting to every option available, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt etc, nothing works. It brings me to logon screen after a long time but keyboard./mouse dont work at that point. Now, like i said i dont want to reformat my computer and lose all my files. My keyboard/mouse work with the windows 7 bootup cd doing those menus but not when it gets to logon screen booting the normal way. I was thinking of buying an external drive and installing windows on there and booting from there but im not sure if my computer would recognize it since it wont recognize my keyboard and mouse at login screen.

The Auto repair was useless, and to make matters worst, I started getting the evil blue screen. After a week of headaches, I decided it wasn't worth it. So, I used safe mode to save all our pictures and my books on a flashdrive(nothing else, just so it whatever was hurting the comp wouldn't come back on). Then I decided to recover the comp so I could rid it of whatever was causing the awful blue screen. It fixed it, until recently. Now understand, I didn't put anything back on the comp(not even the stuff I saved to my flashdrive) since it irritated me so much before, so I know I didn't do anything to cause this. See, now the comp won't start up at all without the Auto Repair coming on. Even when I get the option to start up windows normally and bypass the auto repair, I still end up back on the auto repair. I'm totally lost on what to do.

I've had prolonged problems with my computer; blue screen crashes around 5-10 times a day, everyday for past 2 years. Anyway my problem today is that finally it will not start up. I get the start repair (recommend) or start windows normally. The latter of the two just fails and restart the computer. When clicking repair it say it cannot repair automatically, I have also gone into advanced boot settings and tried safe mode which also failed and restarted the computer the same goes with trying last good configuration which also does the same. I have also tried repair disc and back up disc I have but I don't if it some I'm doing wrong but they are not loading.

I'm trying to get my nephew's laptop (acer aspire 5749) to boot up (apparently battery ran out during shutdown and not worked since) - on power up it gives the option to repair or start as normal. Repair takes you (eventually) to a grey screen with wavy ribbons at the top, a moveable mouse cursor but nothing else happens (even after leaving it for 24 hours). "Start windows normally" takes you to the loading windows screen, then it reboots itself (and the repair options come up again...).
Have booted with a windows repair cd but the same grey screen/wavy ribbons thing happens again and nothing happens (even after leaving it 24 hours).
Booting into safe mode gives no joy either and stops the boot up process during the drivers loading up. It used to stop at one of the AVG drivers so I used the AVG repair utility (midnight commander) to rename all the AVG stuff but then it just stops at another driver instead (now it stops at classpnp.sys).
I've done the memory check on the AVG disk which passes fine so I'm guessing I need to run some checks on the hard disk itself. I've just downloaded the Ultimate Boot CD ( Ultimate Boot CD - Overview ) but don't know which of the utilities you'd recommend I try first?

I clicked the repair box, but it didn't wanna do that. So I went into the system recovery tool to go back to (the only restore point) which is yesterday, but when I try and do that, it says "Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. On my PC with gigabyte motherboard, quad core processor, 4gb ram 32 bit Windows 7 when I start up it goes into the windows 7 automatic repair mode. After running it's tests I'm told microsoft cannot fix this do I want to send the information to MS - (with no internet). I've tried inserting the program cd but no restore points are found and no repair can be completed. Nor are there any backups. Is there a way to run the install -I have an OEM version- as a repair so I don't lose any data?

I changed explorer.dll in Windows 7. Then explorer wouldn't start when I tried to do so from task manager. So I tried to reboot. After also being unable to make headway in safe mode (using msconfig), as that also requires explorer, I launched startup repair using my windows 7 CD. Then after it said that it would reboot and fix any additional problems, it has kept rebooting and failing. I can't get to safe mode using f8 either, it just comes up with boot options 'Boot from CD' and 'Boot from HDD'.f I can get out of startup repair, that would be tremendous. At least then I can activate word from task manager and save my coursework!'m going to try using Ubuntu's explorer to change the files back. I'll post back any progress! I'll be checking this wall at least 5 times a day until a solution is found.

I shut down my computer by pressing the power button, the next day when I turned my computer (toshiba, windows 7) it said loading files and then went to start up repair, after a short while start repair said it couldn't fix the problem automatically, it said to click finish which would restart my computer, I've restarted my computer multiple times but it always comes up with the same thing.
I clicked on advanced options for system recovery and support and it comes up with language and key board inout which is all right, click next and it says to access recovery options, log on as a local user, to access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account, I've tried my computer account password using the administrator option but it doesn't work, the other options are ASPNET and SophosSAUNB-(my last name goes here). I've tried each option with my password and it doesn't work, am i supposed to use a special password? I don't know what to do.
