I ran norton power eraser (had a virus) and it id'd a number of bad things so I said fix it and now windows wont start up. comp says to run startup repair but that doesnt work and I dont know what to do from here
View 3 RepliesWindows won't start. I get a a black screen saying some hardware or software has changed and the only options are to press enter to continue, or escape to exit. I tried booting my Win 7 64 bit recovery disc (aka system repair disc) but in the second screen where it tells you to select an operating system, it is blank! I attempted to add hard disk drivers but i couldn't figure out how. So i pressed next and got to the screen with various options. I selected "Startup Repair" but that won't work. It says that "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had an ongoing war with my PC for four days now. I have Windows 7 and it refuses to start up. Originally I tried starting up normal, it gave me two choices: system repair or start as normal. If I chose normal it would show the windows logo then reset. If I chose repair it would turn black for several minutes, then go to a blue screen for several minutes and wouldn't move past that. So i tried to boot from CD. I have the option of installing windows or repair. I chose repair, once again it goes to the blue screen and nothing happens (and I've left it on this blue screen a good 15 min mind you.) Finally I submitted and decided to just re-install windows. it goes to the starting setup... and sits there indefinably.

It's Speedfan, so I can monitor temperatures. I put a shortcut to it in my Start Menu - Programs - Startup folder. If I click on that shortcut it starts the app. But the app never starts when I log in. It shows in the start menu in MSCONFIG and it is enabled.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is really strange.. i have noticed for a few days that the search in the star menu isn't working... i shrugged this off the last few times because i didn't really need it(just being lazy trying to find a program)... but today... i typed run... and instead of finding run like normal it shows a few options "programs", "control panel", "documents", and "files" now these all have blank icons and when i click on programs(the obvious selection) i get a pop up from windows security that says"These files can't be openedYour Internet Security settings prevented one or more files from being opened."and in "show details"... View 9 Replies View RelatedLast night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

It boots up fine up to the part where the four balls become the windows logo, but then freezes there everytime. When i try to select the windows start up repair it blacks out the screen and I cant do anything.
I know its not a faulty hard drive because its newly fitted and this problem occured previously on a different hard drive aswell.
When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again.The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started my computer this morning and it went straight to a black screen where I have to pick from two options:Launch startup repair or Start Windows normally. If I start normally, it just restarts my computer and goes back to the black screen. If I launch the startup repair, it goes to a screen with a Windows-style background and stays there doing nothing. From what I've seen online, there should be a window where I can choose to repair or reinstall Windows, etc. but I don't even get to those options.
I tried starting in safe mode and it looks like it's going through a long list of system files, then it stops and restarts my computer and it goes back to the black screen. Every solution I've seen online requires that pop-up window, which I never get to.
I also tried booting from my recovery discs and they just take me to the blank Windows background again. My computer was fine last night when I shut it down and I haven't downloaded or installed anything in ages.
I have an Emachines E627 laptop. Last night I was doing some school work on my laptop, but then my laptop freezes, gets the blue screen of death and turns off. I then turned it back on, and the Window's screen pops up, quickly goes to startup repair and then it does the repair thing. After about 5 minutes into it, it freezes for about 10 min, then says: "Your computer will now turn off". So, it turns off, I turn in back on again, it goes to the windows start up screen, and does the same process over again

It just hangs there indefinitely (usually only takes a couple seconds) and doesn't load. I then tried startup repair, and that just takes me to a black screen. After that, I tried putting in my Windows 7 boot disc to do a clean install, told the BIOS to boot to CD/DVD drive. It tells me to press a key, I do. I get "Windows is loading files" and then it goes back to "Starting Windows" forever, yet again. This happened so suddenly, it was working fine just hours before this.

My wife was fiddling on Facebook and her PC crashed. It boots to a repair message, but fails each time with an error about a corrupt registry. I have tried all the "F8" options, but it keeps going to the same repair screen, which fails each time.It has two HDDs, so I am busy (DOS) copying files from the C: drive to the D: drive, but I would rather repair than reinstall.

Today I booted up my computer and got a screen saying something went seriously wrong with my computer and that I should repair it from an installation disk. I load up windows onto a USB, boot it and click the repair option. It's been about half an hour and nothing has shown up. Is it still loading or perhaps something is very wrong with my PC?

When I start windows normally it sends me to the repair screen. And when I select system repair it just freezes at a light blue and geen screen and the only thing showing is my cursor. Ive tried to run the system in safe mode but it freezes at classpnp.sys, and eventually sends me back to the repair screen that is frozen. I don't believe I have my windows 7 installation disk for my laptop so that is out of the equation.
My brother was using my computer and said it was updating when this happened so Im not sure what caused all this.

I kept getting the blue screen of death , ran all the registry cleaners,virus checkers, malware fixers I had, nothing ever showed up. all came back clean. but i still got the blue screen of death.. I even ran Combo fix to no avail. decided to do a Dell system backup restore. Since then I am stuck in a start up loop. I cant even boot from my cd drive succesfully now.Called Dell they ran the typical tests, ( ones I already did) and found nothing wrong with it, told me its not hardware issue that my warranty covers sent me to software issue department. ran the tests again. and he determined he can fix it but its not covered.I could buy their warranty for $250 which will cover me for a year for any software problems.. or pay $150 for the one time help that he could fix it but would not tell me what was wrong with it. I asked for the OS disk to be sent to me so I could try to do a new install from disk.. he said he could but it wouldnt help me so he wont. I am sickened by this customer support its obviously an issue with their backup crap.. I have a win 7 disk from my sons computer and I can't even run it as when I choose boot from CD it still goes right to start up repair so I can even do that.

tried doing a system restore but it got an error. Once that happend i went and tried doing a dell datasafe restore to factory settings from a image file. once it was finished a restart button popped up. once i restarted it the computer still said windows failed to start and it took me to the startup repair option again.Please help me out, this computer is not even a week old. i can't bare tell my mother it already isn't working!edit before i did the dell datasafe factory restore when i would enter the system recovery options it would ask for my user name and password that i had on the computer now that i did the dell datasafe restore it automatically puts "administrator" as the username and nothing as the password and it lets me go to the recovery options. so this makes me believe that it was successful in being restored to factory settings, yet i still have this problem?edit edit- i forgot to mention there is a blue screen that pops up real quick before it restarts and gives the two options. there was a stop code on that screen

I tried to boot in safe mode but it hung on classpnp.sys and then went to start up repair.It has been trying to fix errors for nearly 9 hours so i figure its not actually working.I have tried to cancel the operation but when i hit the cancel button it says i cannot cannot cancel the repair operation.I have tried to pull the power, but it then just goes through the same cycle and i end up back at the start up repair screen and in able to cancel it or go any further. I cant even get to the repair menu.I figure that i need to reformat and reinstall windows.

As it starts up, It takes me to the System Recovery Options menu where I pick my OS. I choose Windows 7 and I am greeted with another window. I can choose to Startup Repair or System Restore, etc. I choose Startup Repair and after it is done, it says,
"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this messgae, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistence."

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I was using a program called TuneUp Utilities, and I used this function called the Disk Doctor to check for errors in my computer.While it was checking for errors, my computer shut down automatically and when I started it up again a black screen appears giving me the option to either load Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. When I start Windows Normally, everything goes fine until I see the cursor. Nothing happens and then the computer restarts on it's own. I've even tried disabling restart on system failure but when I did that the computer just stayed at a dark screen until I restarted it.When I load Startup Repair, it searches for problems for like 5 minutes and then says it can't be automatically fixed.
