Start / Help And Support Doesn't Work In V7000
Jan 18, 2009I just realised that H & S, which was sketchy but at least worked in all pre-betas is now not working at all. I get the attached result no matter what I type in. Comments?

Add To Start In Windows 7 Doesn't Work
Apr 26, 2011I have many years of experience with Windows OSes, but one thing about Win7 is stumping me. I have an application that I want to open when I log in. It's Speedfan, so I can monitor temperatures. I put a shortcut to it in my Start Menu - Programs - Startup folder. If I click on that shortcut it starts the app. But the app never starts when I log in. It shows in the start menu in MSCONFIG and it is enabled.

Jul 23, 2012This is really strange.. i have noticed for a few days that the search in the star menu isn't working... i shrugged this off the last few times because i didn't really need it(just being lazy trying to find a program)... but today... i typed run... and instead of finding run like normal it shows a few options "programs", "control panel", "documents", and "files" now these all have blank icons and when i click on programs(the obvious selection) i get a pop up from windows security that says"These files can't be openedYour Internet Security settings prevented one or more files from being opened."and in "show details"... Jan 22, 2011Windows won't start. I get a a black screen saying some hardware or software has changed and the only options are to press enter to continue, or escape to exit. I tried booting my Win 7 64 bit recovery disc (aka system repair disc) but in the second screen where it tells you to select an operating system, it is blank! I attempted to add hard disk drivers but i couldn't figure out how. So i pressed next and got to the screen with various options. I selected "Startup Repair" but that won't work. It says that "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

Oct 24, 2009I have had Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RTM installed for a couple of months now, but there is one issue that I have not been able to solve for this whole time.
When I first went to install Windows 7, I had to remove a 2GB stick of RAM in order for the installer to even start without blue screen-ing on me.
So I took the RAM out and managed to get 7 installed (yay!). However, when I tried to reinsert the RAM, I got the same BSOD that I would when trying to install 7 with the other 2GB in. I gave up after a couple of tries, and it has taken me this long to try to solve the issue.
I am pretty sure that my specs are 7 Ultimate x64 compatible? Because if not, that is most probably the source of the error.
Otherwise, could anyone lend a hand? It really hurts having 2GB of RAM lying around in a drawer being useless.

Feb 1, 2011I have an HP AIO touchscreen computer that comes preloaded with win7 pro and works fine. It also has a vga in, so i can plug it in as a secondary monitor on my other computer, but touchscreen doesnt work when i do. I called HP and asked for the touchscreen driver (some touchscreens have special drivers), but they had no clue of anything like that. I thought WiN7 was supposed to come preloaded with it, but if i look for "tablet" settings in my computer, its just not there, even though i see it on my AIO. I dont get it, where is the driver for touch? And will touchscreen still work plugged in as a VGA?

When I "upgraded" though I chose to completly reinstall my OS.Anyways I used to have transparency, but when I try to get that same effect it says "The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."and then when I try to troubleshoot it says "Video card driver doesn't support Aero effects" . I've tried the "Fix it" options, but that doesnt work. I just don't see how transperancy would work on vista but not with windows 7... do I seriously have to purchase a new video card?

usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.

Feb 2, 2012I entered the CD and then it automatically booted, and then it went through the usual setup routine and the problem started when it reached the part where I'm supposed to choose where to install Windows.I formatted Local Disk "C" and then chose it to install there, it then said: This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.I then shut down the PC and then re-booted it, it read the CD and then went to "Windows is loading files" then skipped the installation and went for the normal "Starting Windows"... It's weird because I don't have a "C" so how come it says that without having windows? Anyway, it passes this screen and suddenly it just glows in multi colors until I have to shut it down myself. Trying again gave the same response (Which means I can't access the install screen. All what I have is the BIOS menu)There is no way I can return the CD at the moment, and I lost the previous Windows disk...

Nov 13, 2009i installed windows 7, and everything seemed to work fine.
installed a bunch of programs, they also all seem to work.
but then i decided to do some backups; i created the rescue cd using windows, and then cloned the hard drive also using windows 7.
but then i noticed the backup program, and decided to click on "set up backup"; nothing happens.
if i try the same from a disk drive/properties (ie click on backup there) nothing happens either.
any ideas? maybe something i installed broke this, but it seems like a pretty basic function to break like this.
Touchpad Often Doesn't Work?
Jun 28, 2012Recently, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my MSI GE600. At first, the touchpad behaved the way it should. But now, it is not even detected. I rebooted the laptop and it worked again. Most of the time it doesn�t work though.

USB Stick Doesn't Work
Aug 8, 2012Basically, I bought a new USB stick and plugged it in. My computer would search for windows updates, but it would never find the ones required, and the USB wouldn't install. When I unplug the USB and plug it back in again, the computer doesn't even recognize it, and nothing happens. Currently, my computer is not updated, so that's one thing I won't try. I've installed windows 7 updates numerous times in the past, and every time I did, my computer would have problems starting up (i.e. my desktop would be a black screen when it starts and I can't do anything, or the place where I enter my password to log in doesn't load at all).

Feb 24, 2012I'm unable to play games requiring DirectX 11, even though I've downloaded it perhaps half a dozen times. Having stumped myself I decided I may as well ask here. The only feedback I've received from things not working is Civilization V says "Requires Service Pack 2 or greater" As far as I know DirectX doesn't update in the Service pack format, and that Windows 7 SP2 doesn't exist yet, and shouldn't be needed for a game of early 2010 as-is. I have an ASUS U56E, with the on-board i5 graphics(I thought it might be that, but my brother's i3 runs said DirectX fine, so maybe mine is damaged) and I, quite frankly, do not want to run it back into Best Buy and hope that it's covered by warranty.
