So I just finished installing Windows 7 on a Gateway 32-Bit Laptop. It was originally Windows Vista. As it starts up, It takes me to the System Recovery Options menu where I pick my OS. I choose Windows 7 and I am greeted with another window. I can choose to Startup Repair or System Restore, etc. I choose Startup Repair and after it is done, it says,
"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this messgae, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistence."
I really need some help with something and I'm at wit's end with this thing. My Windows 7 Dell laptop refuses to boot up past startup repair. When startup repair finishes, it says it can't fix the problem automatically. Upon reading the logs of startup repair, it says file d: ci.dll is corrupt
I was on my computer when out of nowhere it shutdown and restarted with the satrt up repair. It says it can not fix the computer automatically and says this in the details window
problem event name: startup repair offline problem signature01: 6.1.7600.16385 problem signature02: 6.1.7600.16385

I tried to run a scan in the command promt window but it said that another repair was running and the computer needs to be restated which i did and the whole thing just starts over again. I dont want to lose any of my pics so i dont want to have to reinstall anything
My boys PC is running windows & and is stuck at Startup Repair, it runs, then comes up with "Sratup repair cannot repair this computor automatically" He did have that wonderful AV suite virus on there which i managed to get rid of, then this happened. A few people have said do a fresh install of W7 but he has loads of pics and music on there that i dont want to lose. Can i do an reinstall without losing data? ah, but, plum of the day award could go to me as the problem could be hidden in one of those files??OR do i take his HDD out and back up only the necessary files he wants to keep, then put it back and do a custom install from there?

So earlier on, my laptop wouldn't respond so I shut it down. When I went to turn it off again it came to a screen saying "Windows failed to start up, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause". There is two options: Start Windows Normally, or Launch Start up repair, which is recommended. When I click on Start Windows Normally, it loads for about 20 minutes then restarts itself and lands back at the windows failed to start up page. When I click on Launch Startup Repair, it says "Loading windows files" and loads for a few minutes before showing the windows loading symbol, and then it goes to a black page with a cursor pointer on it. I can move the cursor about, but no matter how long I wait, it doesn't do anything. There is no F8 option ever when I start up my laptop, even when it was working. I am using windows 7.
My problem is this; a freind has got a HP Laptop, 2gb memory, 80gb hard drive, Intell graphics and Win 7 Home Ed as his O/S.He lent his laptop to a freind who seems to have screwed it up as for some reason when it starts up, it wont now go beyond StartUp Repair. I have tried both system restore as well as command prompt to format the disk to no
Okay, so I woke up my computer from sleep mode yesterday, and it worked perfectly fine for all of five minutes before everything except my cursor froze. I waited for it to unfreeze or give me a "not responding" message for about twenty minutes, but when it didn't, I manually shut it down by pressing the power button, since I couldn't get to the start menu. But when I turned it back on, an error message appeared. I don't remember exactly what it said, but it gave me the option to either: "Launch startup repair (reccomended)" or "Start Windows normally". So I chose to launch the startup repair since it said that it would fix anything that had caused my computer to stop working, but it's been "searching for problems" for about five hours now! The blue bar just keeps scrolling past, but other than that, nothing's happening. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or should I call someone to check it out? Will I lose my files? I tried to "Start Windows normally" as well, but nothing happened at all... Oh, and it's an Acer laptop with Windows 7 on it
I've tried F8, F2, and F12 to get to safe mode or startup options but all I ever get is the option to either start normally or launch repair. The function keys appear to do nothing. Launch normally doesn't work and just cycles me back to the two options again. Repairing just keeps "repairing" with nothing ever happening indefinitely. It will ask in the beginning if I want to restore to a different time, and if I click yes, nothing happens except that it keeps "repairing". There's nothing important on the hard drive that needs to be saved. I want to reformat, but I didn't get any disks with the computer, since it said I could use Dell Restore on my desktop, which of course I can't access now. Is there any free, safe program I can use to boot it up and restore? And can I even use a disk to restore if I can't access the advanced boot options to change it to "boot from disk"?
Yesterday I was playing, surfin on my PC. Now when i tried to start windows it would not come pass the loading screen to my desktop. It will just restart the PC over and over again. I have tried to repair windows with my install CD but it cannot repair the problem. I have checked my boot device priority and it is in place. no strange configts or anything.
I am having issues with my computer. I turned it on and logged in, and then the screen stays on welcome for a long time if not forever. I have tried to wait it out a few times and after 15-20mins it just turns black with a white mouse I can move around.
I have a Dell notebook and am not computer savy at all. I posted on another forum and was wondering what you guys think. They were very nice but it has been days now and I am lost on how to do this next step. Getting a second opinion, hope I don't offend them....

You might have to scroll to read the entire thing, it is about two pages..
I use Windows 7 64-bit and it wont get past the start-up screen. I would like to retrieve some personal files from my hard drive before i reinstall windows, is there any way i can do this without removing my hard drive and as a last resort could you guys link to some good videos/guides that are in detail about removing your hard drive and inserting it into another computer.
I just reformatted my computer everything running fine until I accidentally in installed a Microsoft thing I don't remember the name... After uninstalling it quickly went to blue screen of death and now when I try to boot the oc it goes to the loading windows then blue screen of death and restarts. I've tried putting a disk in to reformat but it won't load the disk, it just shows the blue background you get while installing windows.
That's basicly it. Running Windos 7 Home Premium on a newer Toshiba computer. Startup will act all fine and dandy until it reaches he part where the Windows sysmbol shows up is says Starting Windows. From there... well, that's it. I've left it there for 20 minutes and nothing happened. It does launch in safe mode.
Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.
I have an error that system32/hall.DLL is missing so I put in my windows 7 DVD ( I Have 4 DVDs for my windows, gateway, I always put the first one) so I could start start-up repair but when the windows files is loaded it keeps starting recovery mangment which gives me options to recover my hard drive to factory defaults (ie delete files on c and reinstall windows) ,why I don't get options to choose startup repair, how can I get it to start start-up repair?
My dell n5030 laptop isnt getting past the windows start up screen. It boots up fine up to the part where the four balls become the windows logo, but then freezes there everytime. When i try to select the windows start up repair it blacks out the screen and I cant do anything.
I know its not a faulty hard drive because its newly fitted and this problem occured previously on a different hard drive aswell.
I was browsing the web and my laptop froze. I held the powe button to turn it off and now when i turn it on, it only goes to the windows logo and no farther. If i leave it alone, after 20 minutes it goes to a black screen with a cursor. I have tried starting in safemode as well and it only loads some of the files before freezing. I have also tried startup repair. After a few minutes it gives a few options such as system restore. I tried a restore and it still doesn't load.
I am currently trying to talk someone through getting past fatal error code 197 (attempting to talk them through via telephone, so not that easy). They can't get past the opening screen which states that windows is trying to repair.
Information available from user: using HP Pavillion Laptop with Windows 7.
I am trying to get them to do a clean reinstall but this isn't working as they cannot get past this error message:
'Fatal Error C0000034. Applying Update Aspect 197 of 96381 (00000).
I have tried to get them to press F8 and move forward that way, but this is not working. I have also tried to get them into the BIOS, but again, it seems as though they are not even getting the option.
I have a laptop with Windows 7. I was playing games on it today and suddenly browser closed. Then everything else closed and logged out and my laptop completely shut down. When I tried to turn it on again, a blank black screen with a flashing underscore "_" comes up and none of my keys work. The F8 key does nothing. I have turned it off and on many times.
Ok I have a Dell Inspiron N7110. I kept getting the blue screen of death , ran all the registry cleaners, virus checkers, malware fixers I had, nothing ever showed up. all came back clean. but i still got the blue screen of death.. I even ran Combo fix to no avail. decided to do a Dell system backup restore. Since then I am stuck in a start up loop. I cant even boot from my cd drive succesfully now.Called Dell they ran the typical tests, ( ones I already did) and found nothing wrong with it, told me its not hardware issue that my warranty covers sent me to software issue department. ran the tests again. and he determined he can fix it but its not covered.I could buy their warranty for $250 which will cover me for a year for any software problems.. or pay $150 for the one time help that he could fix it but would not tell me what was wrong with it. I asked for the OS disk to be sent to me so I could try to do a new install from disk.. he said he could but it wouldnt help me so he wont. I am sickened by this customer support its obviously an issue with their backup crap.. I have a win 7 disk from my sons computer and I can't even run it as when I choose boot from CD it still goes right to start up repair so I can even do that.
My dell inspiron n5110 is having issues starting up!I was using the computer when all of a sudden it turned off and restarted itself. as it turned on a window popped up named "windows error recovery" with in that it says "windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.IF windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. if power was interrupted during startup, choose stat windows normally." The two options i have are launch startup repair or start windows normally. if i do start windows normally it restarts and goes back to this screen. when i did launch startup repair it did its thing and once it was done it said "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"then i clicked on show problem details and this is exactly what it saysProblem signaturei

tried doing a system restore but it got an error. Once that happend i went and tried doing a dell datasafe restore to factory settings from a image file. once it was finished a restart button popped up. once i restarted it the computer still said windows failed to start and it took me to the startup repair option again. Please help me out, this computer is not even a week old. i can't bare tell my mother it already isn't working!edit before i did the dell datasafe factory restore when i would enter the system recovery options it would ask for my user name and password that i had on the computer now that i did the dell datasafe restore it automatically puts "administrator" as the username and nothing as the password and it lets me go to the recovery options. so this makes me believe that it was successful in being restored to factory settings, yet i still have this problem?edit edit- i forgot to mention there is a blue screen that pops up real quick before it restarts and gives the two options. there was a stop code on that screen
I recently had a windows 7 start up problem. I tried to boot in safe mode but it hung on classpnp.sys and then went to start up repair. It has been trying to fix errors for nearly 9 hours so i figure its not actually working.I have tried to cancel the operation but when i hit the cancel button it says i cannot cannot cancel the repair operation.I have tried to pull the power, but it then just goes through the same cycle and i end up back at the start up repair screen and in able to cancel it or go any further. I cant even get to the repair menu.I figure that i need to reformat and reinstall windows.
I got the "infinite repair start up" sequence on my laptop. I googled and tried all the fixes, but none seemed to work for me. So, I got a fresh download of Win 7 (it's the free trial version) and am trying to install it.It seems to go fine, but then it says it cannot find the drivers for my dvd drive. I have the Dell drivers disk (not sure if the driver is even on there... never used it before) but it doesn't seem to find anything on it.
Problem: This morning I had a brief 1 second power outage while I was using my computer which forced it to shutdown. It just stood there shutting down for about 15 minutes when i decided to click force shutdown. After restarting, computer ran checkdisk and startuip repair because windows was not loading.
Issues; I ran chkdsk a couple times, lots of bad sectors./index files repairing recovering, but it ends up hanging at stage 4 at a certain spot. I left it running at that spot for over 5 hours and just stood there(I went to sleep and woke up at same spot). I booted with windows 7 cd and tried startup repair, the first 3 times it said it couldnt repair. It only showed 2 restore points available and both gave error messages saying they couldnt load. I ran a checkdsk /r again and was fixing a lot of stuff and hung at same spot again. Tried another startup repair, this time it said it worked but still the same problem, windows isnt loading. However, I am able to get to the login screen now after waiting about 10 minutes at the windows logo however my kieyboard/mouse functionaility seems to be gone so i cant even type my password to login at that point. I ran a diagnostic in the boot menu, when checking the harddrive it gave me an error. Ive tried booting to every option available, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt etc, nothing works. It brings me to logon screen after a long time but keyboard./mouse dont work at that point. Now, like i said i dont want to reformat my computer and lose all my files. My keyboard/mouse work with the windows 7 bootup cd doing those menus but not when it gets to logon screen booting the normal way. I was thinking of buying an external drive and installing windows on there and booting from there but im not sure if my computer would recognize it since it wont recognize my keyboard and mouse at login screen.
I have a Toshiba Satellite that started freezing up after some windows updates. It would run fine in safe mode but now it gets stuck on the windows startup screen. If I choose startup repair it just keeps searching. I had tried to restore when in safe mode but the computer old me it. Could not find restore point. I have been trying to backup files that I needed before doing a factory restore but now I am lost...
my acer aspire 5535 laptop wont boot up at all even in safe mode it just keeps running the repair loop ive tried dskchk several times using different swiches to no avail ive tried the regback tutorial again no joy.I have noticed an anomaly thow when you let windows start and automatically go to start up repair the message says windows cannot repair this computer automatically .however if you press f8 and go to the repair screen then start up repair the message comes up saying startup repair cant find anything wrong with this computer. When you look at results it says windows os booted correctly
K I have a serious issue right now.. I just put in a new mobo and cpu into my pc...My pc was running oem windows before the upgrade now i cant start windows up nor do startup repair... (im on my laptop) so my main concern is how am i going to get my pc up and running with little to no pain.
I ran norton power eraser (had a virus) and it id'd a number of bad things so I said fix it and now windows wont start up. comp says to run startup repair but that doesnt work and I dont know what to do from here
