What are my options for connecting a laptop wirelessly to a workstation that is connected to a wired LAN and has no router?Essentially, I want to add wireless connectivity to the workstation so that the laptop can connect to the wired LAN via the workstation.

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust did a clean windows 7 x64 installation on a build a box computer with a new hard drive. Install went fine. Plugged it in to my 3 month old Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router (WRT54GL) and it doesn't recognize that there is any connection at all. Windows says "No connections are available" and troubleshooting can't identify the problem. The light on the router and on the computer comes on. I am running a wired connected XP computer and 2 Win 7 x32 wireless connected computers just fine. Ran ipconfig /all and it came up as follows:

All wires are connected. I've tried booting in Safe mode with networking. I've even connected the computer directly to the cablevision modem. I've installed a USB Linksys wireless adapter and although it installs fine, it doesn't see the router at all. I've also tried reinstalling the router directly on this computer but it doesn't see the router at all.
I've tried setting up a new connection or network, Connecting to a network and choosing a homegroup and sharing option but since you need a network to connect to first I couldn't do it.
i have a windows 7 laptop and all of my computers at home are connected to my dell server which is running windows server 2008 r2 threw wires that go to my router, now i want to add my labtop to my server connecting the labtop wireless to my wireless router and from there adding it to my server. The Connection was working about ten days ago and then suddenly stopped and read as an unidentified network no internet access. at one point is was not receiving packets but now it is but it still says no internet access on the IPv4 Connectivity. Media state is also enabled and the speed is 100.0 Mbps when i troubleshoot it says windows cant identify problem but in the details it says default gateway is available. when i use the cmd prompt ipconfig/all my local ethernet adapter has a physical address of all zeros.
My daughter got a Security Shield virus on her laptop and I managed to remove it using this BC thread: [URL]. The laptop uses Windows 7. The removal seemed to work fine, although one slightly odd thing (compared to the thread's advice) was that I didn't have to change the LAN settings/Proxy server when I booted up in Safe Mode - the virus was preventing internet access but didn't appear to be doing so by the Proxy server change. So I was able to access the internet perfectly well when in Safe Mode with Networking.
I downloaded everything I needed using the laptop wirelesly and scanned/removed the 2 security shield virus files using malware bytes. Then, when I rebooted as normal in order to complete the process and update the HOSTS files, I couldn't access the internet wirelessly. The router is working fine and when I connect via ethernet cable the laptop communicates fine with the internet. It just refuses to let me connect wirelessly.
I have tried:
- Checking all firewall options in McAfee (though I guess this wouldn't enable a wired connection either if it was the problem)
- Removing and reinstalling the wireless device (via device manager)
- Deleting and resetting up the wireless profile
Just not sure what to do next....
I have a Sony Vaio with windows 7 OS (64bit), I have installed and ran several differnet antivirus and malware programs and found nothing. I ran a full virus Scan (Kasperksy anti-virus 2012) and no issues found, I tried to do a System Restore to earlier date (it failed), I can see that i have an issue with the WAN Miniport IKEv2 (It will not deinstall...to try and reinstall...it just errors), I get "Diagnostic Policy Service not running" every time i try to trouble shoot. I have even performed a system scan, (cmd.exe....cfs/scannow) and it found nothing. I even bought a new USB wirelss adapter to try and get online and it doesnt work. I have tried to log on to the internet at work through our network as well as at home through my home netowork (two different providers) and nothing works

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble connecting my girlfriends laptop to the internet using her Windows 7 laptop via a Dlink router with Virgin Media. The laptop previously had Windows Vista installed but I recently upgraded it to Windows 7. For about 2 weeks the laptop connected to the wireless router fine, but stopped working about 4 days ago for some unknown reason out of the blue.
We have tried various methods to fix it, including disabling the wireless network adapter and enabling it again, we have tried updating the driver for the adapter but we get a message saying that the driver currently installed is the latest driver. It also won't let me roll back to the previous driver as that option is faded out in the properties box.
I have took her laptop to my house today to try and connect it to my router (which is also with Virgin and is working fine on my computers at my house) and the laptop won't let me connect to the network and it keeps saying there are no network connections available. I understand that usually it displays a list of connections you can log on to, but the laptop is not finding any connections at all.
On Thursday we attempted to connect to the internet by plugging in the blue wire that came with the router and that works fine. It's just it will not connect wirelessly. What really baffles us with this problem is that it worked fine for a couple of weeks then suddenly stopped working. Could it be an update that was installed that has caused the problem perhaps?
I have also tried using System Restore but that hasn't fixed the problem either. The wireless adapter is called: Atheros AR5005G Wirelss Network Adapter.
Windows 7 laptop will connect to the wireless router but no internet access. The MAC in my house as well as the xbox both have internet via the wireless router. I just altered my internet by making it password protected and changed the name (SSID) Is this the problem?

View 4 Replies View RelatedBeen tackling this problem for over a year now, with a few installs of Windows 7 that ended up making me go back to XP. Well now I have a dual boot with XP SP3 and Win 7 HP x64. The problem is that I can't connect to the internet while using a wireless adapter on Win 7, the wired connection works with Win 7 though, and the wireless USB adapter (Zonet ZEW2546) works on XP. The only pair that doesn't work are the zonet and Win 7. I've tried just about solution I could find, to no avail. I have an EVGA P55v SLI mobo - which I've heard isn't great with wireless, but if it works with XP it should be possible with 7 too. Win 7 is a fresh install so the problem is not antivirus or another program. here is a copy of ipconfig /all (The Realtek wireless LAN utility is the USB adapter, and I am connected by wire.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed my dell v305w on my new laptop successfully and was happily using it until recently. It was suddenly offline. I tried updating the drivers to no avail. So after several attempts, I removed the printer and drivers and downloaded and installed them again. I then went to start -> all programs -> dell printers -> v305 -> dell wireless setup utility and ran the utility. The wireless network was added successfully, and the wifi light on the printer was blue. Success... However, despite the signal strength on both laptop and printer being consistently good, when I attempt to print wirelessly, the laptop lists the printer as "offline". VERY FRUSTRATING! I have been trying to sort this out for 2 days! I have rebooted both printer and laptop, and that didn't work either..I can use the printer wired, but I bought it specifically because it was wireless.

In device manager, there is a yellow triangle and ! against network controller. I have no idea what network controller I have. Speccy can only identify a Marvell Yukon network adapter but no network controller.how I can locate the driver for the controller? I have a netgear wireless router upstairs. My dell laptop, my iMac (which is downstairs) and my iPad/iPhones all connect anywhere in the house. My Toshiba laptop and my work dell will not connect or it connects very intermittently. I can stay connected for days on other wifi networks, just not at home. Any ideas?

My pc which only has a wired NIC, connects with no problems.I recently bought a tplink wireless router. I changed it so the ip is now 192.168.1.254 (it was 192.168.0.254 originally which meant I couldnt access settings to change from the default password, SSID).
I got the tplink wireless router, so I wouldnt have to be tethered with a wire on my laptop for internet. However, I've wasted time with tech support which I can barely hear or understand.I'd like to get this working, otherwise I'm sending everything back, wireless router and laptop.I can ping both the linksys and tplink from my laptop with no problems.I can get connected to the tplink wireless router without a problem but I cannot get to the internet.
I have been trying to set up a router at my girlfriend's apartment. I first tried a Linksys router that I had brought from home. I hooked it up from the wall port, to the router, to my computer. I was able to access the normal Linksys wireless setup page at 192.168.0.1 and set up a network fine. I then unplugged my ethernet cable and attempted to connect to the network and was not able to. If I recall, it 'connected' but there was no internet connection.
