Windows 7 laptop will connect to the wireless router but no internet access. The MAC in my house as well as the xbox both have internet via the wireless router. I just altered my internet by making it password protected and changed the name (SSID) Is this the problem?
View 1 RepliesI am having trouble connecting my girlfriends laptop to the internet using her Windows 7 laptop via a Dlink router with Virgin Media. The laptop previously had Windows Vista installed but I recently upgraded it to Windows 7. For about 2 weeks the laptop connected to the wireless router fine, but stopped working about 4 days ago for some unknown reason out of the blue.
We have tried various methods to fix it, including disabling the wireless network adapter and enabling it again, we have tried updating the driver for the adapter but we get a message saying that the driver currently installed is the latest driver. It also won't let me roll back to the previous driver as that option is faded out in the properties box.
I have took her laptop to my house today to try and connect it to my router (which is also with Virgin and is working fine on my computers at my house) and the laptop won't let me connect to the network and it keeps saying there are no network connections available. I understand that usually it displays a list of connections you can log on to, but the laptop is not finding any connections at all.
On Thursday we attempted to connect to the internet by plugging in the blue wire that came with the router and that works fine. It's just it will not connect wirelessly. What really baffles us with this problem is that it worked fine for a couple of weeks then suddenly stopped working. Could it be an update that was installed that has caused the problem perhaps?
I have also tried using System Restore but that hasn't fixed the problem either. The wireless adapter is called: Atheros AR5005G Wirelss Network Adapter.
why do i have to place my laptop very near to the wireless router in order to get the signal? Please help. Will this be driver related issue? or the wireless hardware inside of my laptop? I have installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no real problems. Except the internet connection! I have Sky Broadband which has a Sky router. I can connect my laptop wirelessly so i know it works ok. The only way my 'new' desktop will connect to the Sky router is by using an Ethernet cable. It simply cannot connect to it wirelessly.
Got a new Asus laptop. Tried to connect to wireless router, but I always get no network access and an unidentified network. Some data points: I have a D-Link DIR-625. This could be the problem since it is from 2007, but technically it is compatible with Windows 7. All other devices (Windows XP laptops, smartphones, etc.) connect with no problem to the wireless router. The LAN on the new laptop connects fine to the router when I plug it in. Only the wireless does not work. I have read online forums for 4 hours trying to figure things out but haven't had luck. I think I've tried everything. I have attached the ipconfig /all below. Oh, and my computer does not have Bonjour installed, which apparently has caused this issue for others.

I recently started using a computer with Windows 7. I have a linksys modem that is wired to a Wireless router and the computer is wired to the router.
After the Windows 7 upgrade, the wireless router stopped working for both wired computers and wireless connections. If I bypass the router and run directly from the modem I get Internet connection again.
I attempted to replace the wireless router with a new one and it's the same issue.
I've disabled IPv6 and tried to manually configure DNS and still no go.
Any thoughts on what may have gone wrong after upgrading to Windows 7 or why the router would suddenly stop working?

About 2 days ago it was giving me sporatic messages after a restart claiming my network settings did not match the ones saved on my laptop. The only change that was made was adding all but one roomates devices to an access list on the router (since the jerk wouldnt shut off bit torrent while people were working). Some other people were noticing some screwy occurances too but dont recall the symtoms so I just set it back to factory default and removed the access list. Everyone else seemed to be fine
Yesterday I cannot see the router on my laptop, I cannot see my neighbors (sporaticly I usually would see 1 bar pop up but now I can't find it at all) I can pick up my router wirelessly only when I have direct line of sight to the router and only 4/5 bars 0,o , so that rules out a lot of choices in its self since it sees it, just not very well.

This happens and random times, at least once a week, and for exactly 24 hours between 1 a.m. one day to 1 a.m. the next day. I can connect via ethernet cable just fine. My phone and TV can connect wirelessly, but not my internet.I have tried resetting my router/modem multiple times when this has happened to no avail. I have factory restored my computer. I have deleted my driver and reinstalled it. Literally the only thing that has worked thus far is connecting to an ethernet cable. I called my ISP and they said my router is fine and nothing is wrong with it.Before you ask, NO, I don't have any monitoring software or any software that prevents the use of internet after a certain time. Keep in mind that my computer is totally factory resetored, totally clean, nothing on it but what it came with.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for 2 days now. My computer was working fine, and I went to go do something, so I shut my laptops lid to put it to sleep. I came back about 5-10 minutes later, and it had a red cross on the network button, at the bottom right of my desktop. I tried turning the Wi-Fi on/off with F2 + Fn, but that didn't work. I have checked in device manager, and everything seems to be working. My wifi card is an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN.
Currently running this on a Dell Studio 1557, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I've had this laptop for almost 3 years now, and it has never been a an issue. I've tried restoring my laptop to a couple of days ago, but that has given me no results. I tried running the computer in safe mode with networking enabled. I enabled my wifi with the fn + f2, and I saw my wifi network. However, while it was connecting, the connection was lost again, and I'm yet to see it.
After disabling and then enabling the driver, it would show the network for about 20 seconds, then it would be missing. Now, I can't even see it at all. All my other computers/devices can see my network, and it can still connect with it's Ethernet port. This problem is really starting to be a pain, since my laptop is pretty useless if it can't have portable internet.

i have a toshiba windows 7 Laptop, and its always been connected to my Virgin Internet wirelessly for bout 2 years. However now when i switch the laptop on, it does not connect to the wireless internet anymore. My network comes up in the wireless network connections box but as soon as i click on it it pops straight up and says windows was unable to connect to xxxxx etc.I have tried turning of router etc for 10 seconds and plugging it back in but nothing. i have checked my wireless adapter card for drivers and it says i have latest drivers.Everything else in the house, ie phones, playstation etc connects to the network fine, and when i hard wire my laptop to the router again it works fine (am using laptop now to type this)
View 1 Replies View Relatedbrand new lappy. its the Acer travelmate 5740G fantastic specs - everything is nice and responsive, except that i can't connect my wireless at uni. the tech guy had a look at it and he can't figure it out either. we did everything, including shutting down (eventually deleting) the AV because of its firewall. we set up the network exactly as everyone else does (and it works for everyone else).
the computer keeps suggesting that we check the router (but the router works). i can get net through RJ45 no worries but... i want my wireless to work.
My Desktop is connected to a NetGear Router and is on a DLS line to internet. My wireless laptop picks up signal ok and goes online, it also "sees" desktop name, but I can't connect to it for file and printer sharing.
