I have a wireless router linksys connected to the modern witch is on the second floor. I want to connect another router linksys on the same network that the one on the second floor is on, wirelessly without any cords on the first floor.
View 15 RepliesMy Nephew has a very long house and a computer cannot get a signal from the wireless router which is at the other end of the house. He doesn't want to run RJ45 cables. Could he use 2 routers so the second one connects wireless to the first one which is connected to his adsl phone socket by a ethernet cable. If so how would I go about setting them up, settings wise. If so would the computer also be able to talk to each other to be able to transfer files etc to each other.. (enable workgroup & sharing drives/folders) I know how to setup this bit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having to write this because my old bridged network worked so well for so long that I totally forgot how I ever set it up in the first place, but I recall that it was simple and involved:
- The two were connected via wifi - the primary one having a physical connection to roadrunner modem
- The two had the same SSID, same Security method and passkey, different base IP addresses [192.168.1.1, and 192.168.1.21]
- beyond that it gets hazy... what "mode" was the secondary in? somewhere I input to the subordinate router the MAC address of the primary router... dunno where/which field accepted that
- do both need to be set to a fixed & same channel, as opposed to variable/Auto?
- what all was turned off on the secondary?
- both had full use of both their wired connections/clients and wifi
- one of these is N-300mbps, and g/b, the other is g/b. do I need to limit anything?
Its not necessarily important to me that the connected devices all share with one another - I have strange clients anyway and its not needed. the windows 7 devices will be ok on the homegroup.
Been tackling this problem for over a year now, with a few installs of Windows 7 that ended up making me go back to XP. Well now I have a dual boot with XP SP3 and Win 7 HP x64. The problem is that I can't connect to the internet while using a wireless adapter on Win 7, the wired connection works with Win 7 though, and the wireless USB adapter (Zonet ZEW2546) works on XP. The only pair that doesn't work are the zonet and Win 7. I've tried just about solution I could find, to no avail. I have an EVGA P55v SLI mobo - which I've heard isn't great with wireless, but if it works with XP it should be possible with 7 too. Win 7 is a fresh install so the problem is not antivirus or another program. here is a copy of ipconfig /all (The Realtek wireless LAN utility is the USB adapter, and I am connected by wire.)

Well, I have a Satellite I355D-S7825. I checked under Device Manager and I only see the local ethernet connection I'm using, and it won't wirelessly connect anymore...I'm not sure what to do, or what driver to update or how.

I am using Windows 7, and my brother in-law is using windows Vista. We all play WoW or Heroes of Newerth together in my bro's house. So I am wondering if this would work for all the three computers. I've had it since 2003 or 04. when I got it my network seemed to be fast and connections to it quick.now sometimes my wireless seems to have a moment or two where it searches for a connection. I figured that was due to all of the neighbors who now have wireless too. and sometimes now devices are having ip conflicts. for example my printer is set to use a static ip and the router will often give that ip to my laptop. so then the printer will not work unless I restart the laptop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed my dell v305w on my new laptop successfully and was happily using it until recently. It was suddenly offline. I tried updating the drivers to no avail. So after several attempts, I removed the printer and drivers and downloaded and installed them again. I then went to start -> all programs -> dell printers -> v305 -> dell wireless setup utility and ran the utility. The wireless network was added successfully, and the wifi light on the printer was blue. Success... However, despite the signal strength on both laptop and printer being consistently good, when I attempt to print wirelessly, the laptop lists the printer as "offline". VERY FRUSTRATING! I have been trying to sort this out for 2 days! I have rebooted both printer and laptop, and that didn't work either..I can use the printer wired, but I bought it specifically because it was wireless.

Yesterday couldn't do either and found it nearly impossible to get into the routers settings to check them. Kept saying limited access. I've tried various things to no avail. Then I noticed that my iphone could connect to the router, so I ruled out a router problem. I brought the laptop home and it wouldn't connect to our router, so I'm presuming it's a settings problem. But now I'm stuck!

In device manager, there is a yellow triangle and ! against network controller. I have no idea what network controller I have. Speccy can only identify a Marvell Yukon network adapter but no network controller.how I can locate the driver for the controller? I have tried every trick I could find on different forums, to no avail so far.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy daughter got a Security Shield virus on her laptop and I managed to remove it using this BC thread: [URL]. The laptop uses Windows 7. The removal seemed to work fine, although one slightly odd thing (compared to the thread's advice) was that I didn't have to change the LAN settings/Proxy server when I booted up in Safe Mode - the virus was preventing internet access but didn't appear to be doing so by the Proxy server change. So I was able to access the internet perfectly well when in Safe Mode with Networking.
I downloaded everything I needed using the laptop wirelesly and scanned/removed the 2 security shield virus files using malware bytes. Then, when I rebooted as normal in order to complete the process and update the HOSTS files, I couldn't access the internet wirelessly. The router is working fine and when I connect via ethernet cable the laptop communicates fine with the internet. It just refuses to let me connect wirelessly.
I have tried:
- Checking all firewall options in McAfee (though I guess this wouldn't enable a wired connection either if it was the problem)
- Removing and reinstalling the wireless device (via device manager)
- Deleting and resetting up the wireless profile
Just not sure what to do next....
setup two routers (Netgear N600 routers)? In House A (My Barn) I have 3 camera's hook up to my router. In House B (My House), I have a N600 hookup to my modem and 3 of my computers. What would it take to be able to hook up House A to House B, so that I can view my House A camera's?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy operating system is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I recently bought a new laptop (not a Dell) and so wanted to link this up and synchronize it with my Dell 305w all in one Wireless printer so it prints and scans wirelessly. I put in the CD that came with the printer and I downloaded the most recent driver (or so I thought). Anyway, after all that was done it prints wirelessly no problem. The trouble came when I wanted to scan a document from the Dell Imaging Toolbox. On my old laptop (that is a Dell) and my daughter's laptop (that is a Samsung,) this works wirelessly no problem at all from the Dell Imaging Toolbox.
On this new laptop, it doesn't scan wirelessly although it does print wirelessly. Every time I tried, first a message came up giving me a choice of two printers to use yet only one is showing in Devices and Printers in the control panel. So I chose one. (This message never came up before on my other laptop and I never had a choice). After choosing one, I then chose 'scan' and then 'start' from the Dell Imaging Toolbox. This then brought up another message that was titled, 'Network Scan.' 'For best results when scanning over the network:
- Save all your work.
- Close Dell Imaging Toolbox.
- Press the Scan button on your printer's operator panel.
I need to have it working wirelessly from a remote spot as it did with my previous laptop because I am disabled. How to rectify this scenario? What am I doing that is stopping this from scanning wirelessly? On top of that also related to the printer, every time I boot up the laptop, a message appears saying, 'Microsoft.NET Framework Version 2.0 is required to continue. This software is available for free at - Microsoft website address.' I've gone to the website and downloaded this twice but the error message still keeps coming up every time I boot.
My notebook is an ASUS G53SX - A1 with an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG wireless card. I was able to connect with a cable.
When i try to connect wireless i can see the network and even it's strength but when i try to connect i get the message "windows was unable to connect to xxxxxx network". the driver are up to date and i can connect with other laptops to the same network.
I tried uninstalling my driver..but everytime i scan for new hardwares..it will detect and automatically the the previous driver will occur..i dont know why it happens..
its a netbook Acer ..and a Broadcom 802.11g adapter..
I have both x86 and x64 Seven installed. Wireless Card is Realtek 8185 b/g, router is belkin 802.11b
For x86, 7000-7048-7057 all connected to the 802.11b router with WEP 128bit without problem.
Since 7057, I installed x64 Seven and verified that the WEP key is correct. But, it just can't connect. "Unidentified network", Access type: No Internet access. ipconfig /all tells me that I didn't connect to the router at all. The router's dhcp didn't assign the x64 any ip.
If I boot up the x86, I then can go to Internet without problem.
I tried the troubleshoot. The program reset my wireless network card then let me retype my wep key. At the end, it was unable to fix the issues and it lists the problems as below:
Windows cannot connect to "....." Detected
"Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration Detected
Now, if I manually set a valid IP "192.168.2.3" and mask "255.255.255.0" and gateway "192.168.2.1", I still can't connect to the router. But, from the router side, the dhcp list shows my x64 ip address.
Also, even if I reset the router to Open (without WEP), x64 still can't connect to the router. None of above can make me ping the router. So wired.
Please help me. I do like x64 over x86, because in there the office 2007 and SAS 9.2 won't freeze/without response. And, I don't have the lan access to the router.
I cannot use wireless access, getting msg. wireless lan adapter has been disabled in device manager, checked device manager there is a Network adapter, (Realtek PCIE FE Family Controller) and then there is Other Devices under there is the network controller(yellow !). Downloaded controller drivers from HP,( sp53955) and for some reasons the drivers are not installing. Also when I try to set up a wireless connection all i can get is broadband and cable. I am quite sure this is because there is a problem with the wireless adapter.I continued my search and discovered that this notebook uses the Atheros ar9285 wireless adapter, I disabled the unknown network controller and enabled the Realtek since this one appeared to be the one that was installed by HP.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer TravelMate 5740G (all other system specs are fine so i'm only posting the networking relevant stuff) and it does not connect to wireless networks - Acer Nplify 802.11bgn from a broadcom 802.11n wireless adapter apparently has the best driver (as advised by MS device manager)this pc has been able to connect to a grand total of 2 wireless networks?
1. at uni it connected on its own for 15 minutes, any time i've attempted to manually connect it says "could not connect to [network name]"
2. connected just fine to a 3g iphone 4 acting as a portable hotspot at home, my wireless settings are as follows:Open WEP PSK w/ 1 key index everybody else in my family can connect to this wireless network i can connect with my phone, my dad with his lappy, my friends with their lappies. there are NO xp computers in the network there are 3 Windows 7 desktops on the network the internet works just fine with the rj45 cable ---> i'm 100% sure the issue is not with my home network config OR the router at uni, the router + settings are not the issue because they service 15,000 people a day without issue ---> i'm 100% sure the issue is not with other network configs OR their routers i have tried every change under the sun (that i know of) with my laptop's own configs.i've attempted to update all the WNIC drivers, i've made the WNIC as open to connections as i possibly can.i have disabled ip6 and tried, i have enabled ip6 and tried, and i get no connections happening. i'm at the end of my wits, i just want my wireless to work, and i have NFI how to make it happen.

WLAN shows connected, but can't reconnect until we do a IP refresh. Some machines are running Dell WLAN cards and another is running Intel card. Can't seem to nail down the problem. One user mentioned she was having this problem after MS updates so wondering if a patch/hot fix is jacking up these machines. To add salt to the wound, I brought my Dell Inpiron 1420 home today...plugged in the network cable..did some work, then decided to move to the couch.
