One Of Your Disks Need To Be Checked For Consistency

Nov 2, 2009

I installed Windows 7 a few weeks ago, and every time I boot up, it says that one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency. The first two times, I let it check for errors, none were found. But it keeps wanting to check every time I boot up. Sometimes I skip, sometimes I let it check, with no errors found. Is there any way to make it go away? A setting or something?

Disks Need To Be Checked For Consistency (ever Since Last Update)

Apr 24, 2012

a few months ago (early January) I bought a new laptop from Best Buy because my previous one was ancient and finally crapped out on me. I mainly use the computer for online gaming and surfing the internet. The computer has worked fine, until this past weekend. When I went to turn off the computer, the computer installed updates. The next morning I turned the laptop on, but instead of finishing installing the updates, the computer started to run a disk check, saying:

Checking the file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Volume label is OS
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency...

I allowed the disk check to run and then the computer restarted and booted normally. The computer worked fine for a little bit, but then internet pages started not responding, the mouse pointer lags around the screen, and occasionally I cant get programs to open. Now, everytime I boot up the computer, it runs the disk check, and when the check completes, it runs it again and again and again, restarting each time. Each time it runs the disk check it finds the same files that cannot be read.As it stands, the computer works fine sometimes, and goes into not responding/laggy mode at others.

Processes And Applications Freezing - Disk Needs To Be Checked For Consistency

May 3, 2011

I run a windows 7 7600 build, which is not genuine. About two weeks ago, nearly every time I booted my computer, iId get "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency" message, while windows would carry on with the said process, isolating, replacing and deleting all files necessary. I run a full scan, with my avg, found no virus, did some more scans, and the said process has stopped occuring. However, since this has stopped, my computer has been consistently and very much frequently been freezing processes and applications for a period of 2-20 seconds.

Games would freeze on their tracks (especially frustrating on the online short) photoshop brushes would stop rendering, movies would stop their videos (oddly sometimes the sound carries on), internet explorers would stop loading etc. etc. I've defragmented my 0% fragmented drives, just in case, yet the problem persists. I saw somewhere that windows might be pulling this trick, so i'd get the genuine ones. but i can't imagine that's the case, because windows have detected my version as not genuine for a couple of months now, (run as genuine for about half a year before).

Checking File System / Drive Consistency

Nov 11, 2009

Just purchased HP Pavillion dv-7-2273cl Entertainment Notebook. I haven't installed any programs yet. It did an online Windows update.

At boot it stops and gives me this msg: Checking file system on c: file type is NTFS (blah blah) one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.

Words close to that anyway. It counts down to check or skip but stops at 1 second to press any key. I ran diagnostics on all hardware, everything checks out OK. I haven't done any reconfiguring or added any hardware. This is out of the box preinstalled.

Checked Everything In HiJack This Because Computer Was Running Really Slowly And 100% CPU Usage

Dec 21, 2011

i was looking at a Internet video of how to use hjt and it said to checkmark everything and hit fix; my computer was running perfectly fine 2 weeks ago with games running at 30 fps and really little lag but suddenly has been running extremely slow with long wait times and 2 fps so i decided to follow the video. after hitting fix everything my computer seems to be running a bit better but i'm not exactly sure if anything has been fixed. now my concern is: should i restore back to before i 'fixed' everything?

Hard Drive Failing - Get A New System Drive?

Aug 11, 2010

My primary system drive where Windows 7 is installed is a: WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD3200AAKS HD 320G - OEM. Long version (feel free to scroll down to short version): Yesterday, I came back to my computer, and all of my applications and desktop were frozen, but I could move the mouse. When I clicked on a window, the cursor would turn to the blue spinning thing, and the window would eventually say not responding and turn a lighter shade of white. I couldn't click on the desktop of the start menu, so I did a hard reset. The computer then wouldn't pass the black "starting windows" screen. I did another hard reset, and it asked me if I wanted windows to try to repair start up. Soon after that, it asked if I wanted to restore windows, but when I clicked OK, I got what looked to me to be a memory error. Then startup repair seemed to do nothing for a few hours, till I got impatient and restarted the computer. I was able to get into Windows, and I scheduled a memory test, and reset the computer. Memory test ran and found no problems. I restarted and Windows loaded, but soon after my computer was laggy and the programs were freezing. So then I thought it may be a HDD issue, so I scheduled to run check disk on that drive, and reset. Check Disk found corrupt files and bad sectors. After that, I was able to load Windows normally, but when I tried to open MC7 for "Live TV", it wouldn't pass the searching for tuner stage, so I closed out MC7, and got an error message in the action center. So I ran chkdsk again. This time, windows wouldn't load after restart, so I went back into repair startup, and it seemed to have found the error really fast, restarted and everything seemed fine. I decided to run chkdsk one more time for good measure, and it had a couple more read errors and found more bad sectors. Now I have been running windows with no apparent issues yet.Short version, computer froze, ended up running chkdsk 3 times, had to repair start up, and now everything is OK for now, but obviously I'm worried about more harddrive failure. Here are my questions:

1)How troubling is this? Do I need a new harddrive ASAP, or can it run for years with a few bad sectors? Any further tests I could run?

2)If I am to get a new system drive, what should I get? All I have on it is windows and my programs. I have separate disks for data. I'm using roughly 32 GBs out of 298. Should I just try to get the same drive (same speed, same capacity), or is there a good upgrade and is it worth getting an upgrade (I don't need more space, but something that would help performance maybe?) or any good deals on sale now?

3) I bought my current (failing) HDD on 9/24/2008, and I'm pretty sure WD has 5 year limited warranty. Should I peruse that angle?

4)How should I got about moving/restoring this OS to the new drive?

4a) I have a half dozen Windows Image Backups saved. Should I just use an old one from before the failure, or should I try to create a new one now, even though the disk may be corrupt?

4b)Or is there a better program to be using than Windows backup and restore?

Computer Failing To Boot

Jun 18, 2011

last night my computer just shut down out seemingly for no reason and when i tried to power it back up it was asking me to insert a boot device

i was planning to reformat in a few hours anyway so it didnt phase me to much so i continued to reformat the computer with no issues then once it had finished installing and i got to the desktop it just powered off again except this time it wouldnt load past bios it just kept restarting. the intersting part with the restarts was that the bios would restart but the power to the computer would not get interrupted. Also its not always the exact some position that it decides to restart some times it will be within 1 second sometimes i get to the desktop only for it to shut down again if i try and do anything

i have tried swapping out parts to identify the faulty part. no luck. ive stripped it down to its basic parts ( cpu Mobo ram n gfx) still same thing happens i dont even have the HDs plugged in so i dont believe it to be a virus on the HD. ive tried flashing the Cmos by taking out the battery for half an hour and this seemed to work but it asked for bootmgr so i reformated the HD again only for it all to start happening again.only this time the power does turn off some times.

i have checked the temperature of the CPU and its sitting on around 47 degrees so nothing out of the ordinary the cpu coolant gell is a bit dry but given that there doesnt seem to be a heat issue i dont know why that would make an immediate difference

Signs Of A Failing SSD Drive?

Aug 21, 2012

After i bought it i read tons of reviews about it failing or having issues right from the start,, Mine has worked flawlessly so far however its only been a little over a month or two since i got it. Just yesterday i started having issues where on boot up it freezes just before or right after it finds the SSD drive.Something locked up yesterday and i had no choice but to do a hard power off, Right after that one of my other drives was showing as dirty. I scanned it and had windows fix any issues with it and everything seemed fine for about 5hours or so till my system again froze then would not boot because it was not finding the SSD drive. I took the side off my case and checked that the sata connections were good then started back up and everything was fine again for maybe another hour. Then my IE froze and my desktop went solid white and i got some kind of security error when i hit Ctrl + Alt + Del that told me to either use the esc key or to use the power button to shut down,,, esc did nothing but the power button killed it QUICK! This time i took the side off my case again and eliminated all but the SSD drive and have been fine now for about another 3-4 hrs. So anyhow what im wondering is if there is a SSD drive utility that will scan my drive and check it for issues? I have read not to use defragmenter on my SSD drive and i never have but what about windows chkdsk or maybe Tune up utillities drive check?

Computer Failing Randomly In Different Ways

Sep 26, 2012

it started about a few months ago, when my computer wouldn't let me play games or Internet videos one day suddenly, the screen would turn green and it would say a "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" i updated the drivers and it fixed it for ages up until yesterday. i moved my computer onto a new desk and suddenly it started going weird again, it was failing to start up, crashing 2/3 times when it was on the windows logo, then crashing and emitting a annoying buzzing noise, which i fixed by updating the system and graphic drivers again, but now it's gone back to doing the "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" error, stopping the video and or window that i'm using like msn or skype for instance. also sometimes the screen will just go a bright white and it has to be reset because you cannot see anything else on the monitor. tried with different monitor still same issues.

Desktop Computer USB Ports Failing

Jul 17, 2012

I don't know if my PC is dying a slow natural death or if an outside insult caused it. During a recent thunderstorm, a power flicker turned off my computer. After rebooting, I had no Internet access. That problem seems to have been simply a bad cable between the router and the cable modem, however I did have to fiddle with the tcpip settings. But while checking cables, my wireless Logitech mouse quit working. I plugged the mouse receiver into an empty USB port next to the one it had been plugged into on the rear of the machine, and it worked again. The other port is still dead. Later I found that one of the two USB ports in front of the machine no longer works. I can still use it to charge my phone, but it pops up a "Device not recognized" message if I plug a drive/camera/phone/etc into it. No conflicts are shown in the device manager. I would feel safe in assuming a power surge from lightening had popped something on the MB causing the failure, but there's another possibility. The day before all this happened I purchased a cheap 4-socket USB expansion hub and used it in one of the front sockets to plug in several devices, a scanner and my phone and camera cables. Has anyone ever heard of one of these hubs causing a blown circuit? Strange that the failing sockets are in two different physical locations.

Diskpart Failing To Format Drive

Mar 8, 2012

I have an HP xw8600 on which I am trying to install and format raid 0. My boot drive and OS use the on board controller. This raid is on a 3rd party card (3 Ware 9550SXU-12). I am using this board for its supposed speed over my on board LSI controller, which is capable of raid with only 2 ports. I have used the Bios level utility from 3 Ware to set up the array of 2 Samsung 103F3 1 TB drives in raid 0. The 3 Ware utility says these are now 'exportable' meaning available to Win for formatting.I go to Diskpart, making sure I am an administrator, and can view, select and partition the drives. When I go to format however I get and error message that the format has failed. I checked the system event log and it says: ChipStatus=16807000 (PCI parity error) The event log mentions that it was the 3 Ware that generated it. The drivers for this board are loaded and under device manager it functions normally. I have seen some posts that say this might be a driver error. I have the latest 64 bit driver for this board.

Computer Won't Run Any Programs And System Restore Keeps Failing?

Dec 24, 2011

I'm writing this from a different computer because I can't even get onto the internet on mine.Pretty much all programs fail to run. When I double-click on the icon, I get the usual spinning "loading" circle and then nothing happens. When I try to open straight from a saved file, I get an error message. For example, whenever I try to open a word doc, I get this error message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."Symantec Endpoint Protection has been turned off and every time I go to the Action Center to turn it back on, nothing happens. I get the usual message that asks if I want to allow the change and when I click "allow," nothing changes.I've done several system restores, even in Safe Mode, and they have all failed. System repairs have all failed too. Obviously, virus scans are out of the question and Windows Defender (one of the programs that actually will run) keeps telling me that there is no malicious software to be found on my system.

This all started yesterday afternoon. I was running Firefox as usual and had a word document open that I was typing in. I walked away from my laptop and when I came back, there were three pop-ups on the screen from a virus that I had just managed to get rid of several days before. I closed them out and was preparing to run Malwarebytes when my computer shut itself down suddenly. There haven't been any pop-ups or anything that would indicate that this is a virus. However, I tried the same fix that I used to remove the virus the first time (copying the Malwarebyes file 'mbam.exe' to the desktop and naming it as 'mbam.COM' so that it will open) but even that does not work. I've tried the regedit fix that I've found in forums here but that didn't work either.

When Checked In Task Manager, CPU Usage Remains At 100% Or Close After Booting?

Mar 7, 2012

lies with a Acer Laptop equiped with a AMD Athlon 64 running Windows seven premium. Computer recently started acting slow after a Kaspersky Virus scan and virus removal. When checked in task manager, CPU usage remains at 100% or close after booting. Just simply trying to open any folder takes forever and CPU usage shoots and remains at 100%. The tricky thing for me is that Under processes, the calculation of processes being used doesn't add up to usually more that 20%, however cpu usage shows 100%. There are no inividual process that is being showed that is utilizing the processor. Virus scan, ccleaner, Malwarebytes and super antispyware doesn't show any active threats. Msconfig set to boot only the essential services doesn't fix. Safe mood work fine, so I kinda thinking it isn't a hardware issue
