Feb 23, 2010I have used all my resources to fix this and am at a loss. My aero peek is checked on but it is not working and is greyed out.

View 3 RepliesI have Win7 and FF15. Until recently Aero Peek worked fine but not any more. It doesn't work at all though it is enabled and I'm using an Aero desktop background.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf I am using a program and I move my mouse over to the taskbar and mouse over another program I have running the preview is displayed only briefly (on the order of milliseconds). If I click the taskbar first, then hover over an icon the preview is displayed correctly and if I mouse over the preview the window is brought to the front. However, if I click the preview the program is only sporadically brought to the front.I also noticed that Alt-Tab is not working correctly either. When I hit alt-tab the selection menu is again only flashed on screen even while holding Alt.Restarting computer doesn't fix it.Already ran the troubleshooter and no problems were found.Did a system restore to before the problems were there but that did not solve the issue either.Checked performance settings and everything is enabled.Like I said earlier I can't think of anything that was changed between the time when it was working and the time that it was not. I literally got up from my computer, sat down in another chair in my office, read a book for a couple hours, came back and it did not work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a peculiar problem with aero peek. It sometimes just decides not to work anymore, and only shows labels instead of a preview. This is only temporary, because when I switch between other windows, the aero peek is activated again. I actually reproduced this behavior by switching to this post, and writing for 1-2 minutes. Hovering now only produced labels/tooltips. By switching to another window, aero was "activated" again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 a week ago and today a very weird thing happens - Aero Peek doesn't work all the time. One thing I noticed is that when it does not work the taskbar icons seem like stuck in selected mode. What I mean is when you go over them they change their color - e.g. like they are selected. But when you go away they become transparent once again - well when Aero Peek stops working mine don't go to transparent.
I've attached an image. The bar on the left is how all bars should look like when they are not hoped over, yet as you can see the right bar has its "selected" color stuck. After I make a few "show desktop" switches, and then switch between windows - it somehow gets fixed. Totally random. I've tried closing programs, did the troubleshooter (said it's all OK), went into settings... basically everything I managed to find and thought of - I tried and nothing worked. All other functions of Aero work.
When I try and change the program that a file uses to open, the checkbox is checked and greyed out for every single file extension on my computer. The problem is similar to this:
http:[url]....
The problem is, for both registry keys it says to change, the "NoFileAssociate" is missing for both of them. How do I get it back?
i have a PC on my domain network. i have a new laptop, but i cant install Aero peek on this PC, or either activate it.
i have look at the guide in here and other sites, but i cannot activate it. can i download it or does it comes with IE9? atm i have IE8 installed.
its a Windows 7 pro 32-bit version. i have aero peek on the other PC's in the domain:S
I am puzzled as to why my aero peek display (is this the little mini pictures of the open windows?) has diappeared when I hover my mouse over the taskbar. All I have now is the title of the page, rather than a miniature of what's open. I did have to update display drivers a couple of days ago after having some nasty display problems that led to BSOD. Could that have caused it? When I go to Task Bar -Properties I can't check "Use Aero Peek to preview desktop"

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Vista to Win 7 Pro, everything was working fine until a few days ago. The Aero Peek flashes for a second then goes away. Also the screen saver doesn't kick in or sleep or hibernate. I did a repair install and then a complete install also uninstalled the video card driver and and put it back on, but still nothing. I did notice when I have the device manager screen open that peek will work with everything that is open. The only thing that was changed to the laptop is that I hooked it up to a TV through the VGA. Also I deleted the old files from Vista that were stored in C:windowsold. Haven't touched the register.
Anything that I hoover over that should show a display of some sort (such as picture, that will show the date taken, and size) it will only show for a second then disappear.
Also did a sfcscannow which showed no problems.

I have installed Win7 Ult Ed into my latpop but I noticed that when for example i download a number of files, and hover my mouse over it to preview it, it actually does not show the progress of my download in real time, this only happens when i actually click on the thumb nail iteself where I can fully see it. I am running a 32 -bit machine with 4gb ram, why it does not show things in real time? The same thing happens when I play music in Windows Media Player.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst af all, hi all, i'm new to the forum. I found it out couse i'm using windows 7 right now (well, i haven't any particular file on my desktop so nothing to loose) and i'm searching a few things to improve my (till now really good) experience with this os.
Now the little problem: i'm searching for a keyboard shortcut to switch through windows with aero peek (x-ray vision) just like i do with flip3d, is that possible?
The only thing i found near to what i'm searching is the shortcut to switch through active elements that is like moving the mouse over icons of pinned-apps, that is not the same.
Aero peek has many useful features but, compared to my standard work, it takes me too long to move mouse on an icon, wait for preview to show, than move again mouse on previews of different windows of the same app.
i have a problem with my "aero peek show desktop" at the right side of the task bar. it is double size, i read in a few forums about this case with installing tablets. i installed my wacom tablet a few days ago,so i suppose its because of this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo here is my issue: my aero peek thumbnails don't stay up, as I move my mouse over the active icon, it shows and then disappears. It flickers as my mouse moves across the icon. But when I click the explorer bar itself and then mouse over my active icon, it *will* show. I've tried to research it myself, updating my 9800gtx+ driver, running aero peek repair, and even windows Repair Install. It must be a registry thing, because I've done everything else.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI only learnt about this a couple of weeks ago!If you want to make the Aero Peek button at the far right of your Taskbar into a plain and simple Show Desktop button:Simply right-click the Aero Peek button and un-check the "Peek at desktop" option. Et Voila!! That's it!
View 1 Replies View Relatedi booted up my comp and Aero wasnt enabled. I reinstalled my graphics drivers, it came back on. However, whenever I restart my comp, Aero disables again. so , if I reinstall my graphics drivers every time i boot there wouldn't be an issue, but thats a bit annoying. So I ran the windows diagnostic tool for aero and it told me that my desktop window manager was disabled. So I ran services.msc and found the desktop window manager in the list, only it said that hte desktop window manager was in face running and operational. [code]

View 6 Replies View Related[code] This was the error I received for many months when I attempted to play a game or watch a video through Media Player Classic. At the same time, I always got the error that Desktop Window Manager had stopped working and was closed upon start-up, so I had no access to Windows Aero et al. Basically, the errors went hand in hand with each other. Then after a while, the computer began freezing after 20 minutes of use. So now, even if I went and used Driver Sweeper to remove all old drivers for the GPU, and installed fresh drivers, the computer would freeze within 20 minutes of use. (Previously to that, a fresh install guaranteed no problems atleast for a week)I finally decided it had to be a GPU error, so I sent in the GPU for repair at ASUS. I still haven't received it back, but in the meanwhile, installed an old BFG 7800GTX I had lying around to have a temporary computer.Clearly it means it's not the GPU's fault. Is it the RAM? The Motherboard? Maybe not enough power to the system? [code]

What caused the problem: Thursday I had my hard drives replaced, and had to reinstall windows. I have basically the same problem as the OP in Windows 7 Aero/glass color not working, was working before this thread
What I've done:- I ran the aero troubleshooter, came back with no issues.
The first thing I do after installing win 7 is apply the uxtheme patch. I've been running custom themes for a while, but yesterday decided to change the look of things. I applied a os x leopard type theme, it didn't work and now I've lost all desktop visual effects (transparency, themes, win+tab).I run the diagnostic and it detects that 'Windows Desktop Manager is disabled' - so I think "Ok, I'll just go into services and re-enable it"... but it's GONE! How the hell can a service just remove it self?So I run System Restore back to when I knew it was working, but still no damn transparency, that service or themes, just the default non-transparent Aero!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a recurring issue that drives me nuts to no end: Everytime I put my computer to sleep (I'm 99.5% sure this is the cause), Aero preview crashes, and prevents me from switching to an application with more than one window open (that is, using the taskbar). I have to kill and relaunch explorer to bring it back, but as I shut my laptop lid often, this is hardly ideal.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just setup a new computer and windows 7 Aero is not working. I have installed the latest Catalyst drivers 12.10 on the card.
Windows Aero says that my card is not compatible and i need to install another card.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte z77 DH3 and it has an i5 3750 CPU.
I didnīt install the drivers for the onboard GPU. Could be that the problem?
I am currently looking a way to enable Aero in my machine. (as note, currently I am missing the Aero Glass, Aero Peek, and Aero Flip.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the machine. Because my screen is WideScreen, at first the graphics are all large and mushy. But at this point I HAVE AERO!
Then, I installed the driver for the gfx card, which was SIS UniVGA3 v.3.85. After installing and restarting, I get the normal resolution (1280x800) but NO AERO.
I thought this was driver problem, so I downloaded UniVGA5 v5.07, UniVGA5 v5.20 (which is the driver for Windows7, according to the site), and the SiS driver update from Windows Update, all of which didn't enable Aero for me.
I am completely stumped on this. I just don't get why the heck I get Aero WITHOUT driver, but no Aero with drivers.
I installed Windows 7 a few weeks ago, and every time I boot up, it says that one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency. The first two times, I let it check for errors, none were found. But it keeps wanting to check every time I boot up. Sometimes I skip, sometimes I let it check, with no errors found. Is there any way to make it go away? A setting or something?
View 9 Replies View Relateda few months ago (early January) I bought a new laptop from Best Buy because my previous one was ancient and finally crapped out on me. I mainly use the computer for online gaming and surfing the internet. The computer has worked fine, until this past weekend. When I went to turn off the computer, the computer installed updates. The next morning I turned the laptop on, but instead of finishing installing the updates, the computer started to run a disk check, saying:
Checking the file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Volume label is OS
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency...
I allowed the disk check to run and then the computer restarted and booted normally. The computer worked fine for a little bit, but then internet pages started not responding, the mouse pointer lags around the screen, and occasionally I cant get programs to open. Now, everytime I boot up the computer, it runs the disk check, and when the check completes, it runs it again and again and again, restarting each time. Each time it runs the disk check it finds the same files that cannot be read.As it stands, the computer works fine sometimes, and goes into not responding/laggy mode at others.
Windows 7 64 bitI went to the Microsoft website and reset the hosts file. (I just copied the text on the page that said it was for the Windows 7 hosts) Prior to the hosts reset, the only text in there was 120.0.0.1 localhost. Anyone know what this means? This happened one other time before, so it has to be something.

It randomly gives BSOD. I have checked the dump files and it seems to show at least 3 possible reasons depending on the file. I have updated drivers from the manufacturers sites directly to try and fix the problem. Other solutions I found for the various error codes did not seem to apply.BTW- Please don't pay attnetion to the dump files created on 4-1-12. I know why those happened. It was my error.
Here is the log:Checking file system on C:The type of the file system is NTFS.One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.Windows will now check the disk.
