View 3 RepliesI recently tried to build a computer and failed epically. So I put my hardrive back in my old PC. Upon booting the PC it runs fine until it reaches :starting windows".
Where it freezes, and then restarts.
It seems some others are having a similar problem but thought I had to start my own post,Yesterday and this morning my pc refuses to boot initially. Sometimes it goes to the POST and stops there, sometimes to the windows 7 screen and stops there. I managed to start in safe mode but the only thing odd in there was 'C: was ok, A: (floppy) ok, D: was renamed 'F' and E: was ok (I have a TSSTcorp DVD drive and a Lite-On lightscribe drive).

Startup repair does not fix it, I have tried several system restore points none of which work (error 0X8000ffff), and the last known configuration is not working either. I can get into the safe mode menu but when I try to go into safe mode I get the Windows failed to start.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP 7 on a HP EliteBook 8440p laptopI installed three updates, including the latest Windows 7 Service Pack and now my computer will not start up again. The Startup Repair tool is detecting no errors. The system restore tool warns me that my diagnostic power is low and a restore can not be reversed. I ran a chk dsk and no errors were found and fixed there either.

i was planning to reformat in a few hours anyway so it didnt phase me to much so i continued to reformat the computer with no issues then once it had finished installing and i got to the desktop it just powered off again except this time it wouldnt load past bios it just kept restarting. the intersting part with the restarts was that the bios would restart but the power to the computer would not get interrupted. Also its not always the exact some position that it decides to restart some times it will be within 1 second sometimes i get to the desktop only for it to shut down again if i try and do anything
i have tried swapping out parts to identify the faulty part. no luck. ive stripped it down to its basic parts ( cpu Mobo ram n gfx) still same thing happens i dont even have the HDs plugged in so i dont believe it to be a virus on the HD. ive tried flashing the Cmos by taking out the battery for half an hour and this seemed to work but it asked for bootmgr so i reformated the HD again only for it all to start happening again.only this time the power does turn off some times.
i have checked the temperature of the CPU and its sitting on around 47 degrees so nothing out of the ordinary the cpu coolant gell is a bit dry but given that there doesnt seem to be a heat issue i dont know why that would make an immediate difference

it started about a few months ago, when my computer wouldn't let me play games or Internet videos one day suddenly, the screen would turn green and it would say a "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" i updated the drivers and it fixed it for ages up until yesterday. i moved my computer onto a new desk and suddenly it started going weird again, it was failing to start up, crashing 2/3 times when it was on the windows logo, then crashing and emitting a annoying buzzing noise, which i fixed by updating the system and graphic drivers again, but now it's gone back to doing the "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" error, stopping the video and or window that i'm using like msn or skype for instance. also sometimes the screen will just go a bright white and it has to be reset because you cannot see anything else on the monitor. tried with different monitor still same issues.

I don't know if my PC is dying a slow natural death or if an outside insult caused it. During a recent thunderstorm, a power flicker turned off my computer. After rebooting, I had no Internet access. That problem seems to have been simply a bad cable between the router and the cable modem, however I did have to fiddle with the tcpip settings. But while checking cables, my wireless Logitech mouse quit working. I plugged the mouse receiver into an empty USB port next to the one it had been plugged into on the rear of the machine, and it worked again. The other port is still dead. Later I found that one of the two USB ports in front of the machine no longer works. I can still use it to charge my phone, but it pops up a "Device not recognized" message if I plug a drive/camera/phone/etc into it. No conflicts are shown in the device manager. I would feel safe in assuming a power surge from lightening had popped something on the MB causing the failure, but there's another possibility. The day before all this happened I purchased a cheap 4-socket USB expansion hub and used it in one of the front sockets to plug in several devices, a scanner and my phone and camera cables. Has anyone ever heard of one of these hubs causing a blown circuit? Strange that the failing sockets are in two different physical locations.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm writing this from a different computer because I can't even get onto the internet on mine.Pretty much all programs fail to run. When I double-click on the icon, I get the usual spinning "loading" circle and then nothing happens. When I try to open straight from a saved file, I get an error message. For example, whenever I try to open a word doc, I get this error message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."Symantec Endpoint Protection has been turned off and every time I go to the Action Center to turn it back on, nothing happens. I get the usual message that asks if I want to allow the change and when I click "allow," nothing changes.I've done several system restores, even in Safe Mode, and they have all failed. System repairs have all failed too. Obviously, virus scans are out of the question and Windows Defender (one of the programs that actually will run) keeps telling me that there is no malicious software to be found on my system.
This all started yesterday afternoon. I was running Firefox as usual and had a word document open that I was typing in. I walked away from my laptop and when I came back, there were three pop-ups on the screen from a virus that I had just managed to get rid of several days before. I closed them out and was preparing to run Malwarebytes when my computer shut itself down suddenly. There haven't been any pop-ups or anything that would indicate that this is a virus. However, I tried the same fix that I used to remove the virus the first time (copying the Malwarebyes file 'mbam.exe' to the desktop and naming it as 'mbam.COM' so that it will open) but even that does not work. I've tried the regedit fix that I've found in forums here but that didn't work either.

I've got a problem that came up recently and I think it might have something to do with one of the latest Windows 7 updates. Most of the time when I open up My Computer, it scans for a really long time and shows nothing(ie.no HDDs, Optical Drives or Network Locations) and in certain folders the icons and thumbnails are completely missing. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.

View 14 Replies View Relatedi hope i'm placing this in the right section, if not, then could someone tell me where to put it and i'll post it again.i've got a samsung rv510 laptop with windows 7 hp 64 bit.about 2 weeks ago, i was watching a Internet video, had spotify and facebook open too, and my computer suddenly went all bsod on me.i turned it off and on again. it came up with a message like 'a problem has occurred whilst loading up your computer, what would you like to do?' i chose 'launch startup repair', which takes a couple seconds, then i choose the other option of 'start windows normally'. i could get onto safe mode. sometimes it would say 'operating system not found.'the computer will then load normally and i can be on it fine.however, i then started to get norton confidential and shockwave flash crashes in google chrome. i disabled norton confidential and thus didn't get that error anymore. shockwave flash however did still occur as disabling it means i can't watch Internet videos and do some other stuff. sometimes my screen would go blank, and it looks like chrome refreshed itself due to some problem.i then used norton power eraser (i have norton internet security 2011 otherwise, and i did many live updates and scans to see if there was anything there, but nothing) to see if there were any problems. it came up with one file that was a possible threat which was msvcrt.dll so i did as it recommended and deleted it. i restarted the computer and now i can't it won't go past the windows logo without freezing.i had some start-up error in the past (a few months ago) and i was sent two cds to correct the problem and they worked. one cd was labelled 'windows 7 hp 64bit' and the other was 'samsung rv510 driver disc'. i got this laptop, via the disability students allowance, from a company. i haven't contacted the company yet about this problem, but i will be doing so very shortly, because if all else fails, i'm just going to try and get this laptop replaced as i'm not 100% happy with it.i have put in both cds in, the driver one doesn't do anything, but the windows 7 hp 64bit one does. it asks me if i want to continue with the thingy, so i press a button to continue. it tries to fix the start-up, but fails. it says that 'a recent hardware or software change might be the cause'. then tells me to insert the installation disc and do some other things, but i don't have that disc. the company could give that to me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo last night I came back from going out. My computer was making an annoying noise, really hard to explain almost like a sound when your hard drive is overworking or really old.... My computer isn't even a half year old. I was to tired to try anything so i just hit the turn off buttonI had to go to work early this morning so I just got home. I tried turnning it on this afternoon, it didn't normally. Gave me an option to start normally or safe mode. I tried to start normally. Windows started and then just froze. Keep in mind the Hard drive or w/e is making this noise still while trying to start windows. So since that didn't work I tried to start in safe mode. This didnt' work either and gave me the message about my SATAo drive or something not working properly
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy problem is the system goes through regular BIOS Startup, and shows everything as working, then when it gets to the windows startup screen (where the 4 colored dots turn into the windows symbol), it does one of two things:
1. it just keeps waving there (you know how the colors kind of come out and in etc.)
2. it goes to a black screen, and none of my inputs work (ie. no keyboard mouse, ctrl+alt+del, anything)
The only way to get out of these two situations is to reset directly on the case.
Sometimes it will not go to the startup screen, and will give me the option of "launch startup repair" or "start windows normally". If I choose start windows normally, it goes to one of the top two problems, if i choose startup repair, it begins loading windows files, then the bar stops halfway (and doesnt move for over 8 hours).
The last thing i tried was starting from my windows 7 dvd, and that also begins loading files, then stops halfway.
i downloaded Comodo CIS yesterday (after uninstalling Avira) with no problems, but this morning my Acer One d270 was unable to start giving a black screen, and i clicked enter on the option to use ''Start up repair'', which only seemed to show the following 'Unspecified change to system configuration may have caused the problem error code = ox490' I managed to start in normal mode in the end and everything seem to be working ok as far as speed etc gos. I installed the VMware - Toolwiz Timefreeze, a couple of days ago. Before that i installed Sandboxie, but then uninstalled after it caused BSOD which according to the dump file was caused by the Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R) file - igdkmd32.sys.I noticed that for sometime before the latest downloads that when running windows ''fix problems'', that it says i have too many programs running on start up ,so today i disabled, adobe reader + acrobat, google update , and toolwiz so they are not running on start up. I also have Rapport installed and running but its not showing in msconfig start up list so not sure about it. I'm assuming Word, excel, ccleaner, glary utilities, are not running on start up but dont know how to check!
View 4 Replies View RelatedWith Sandy visit in my area, I've lost power couple of times with the computer being on. It had no issues starting it up, other than Windows complaining about not being shut down gracefully. While I have had power for the last 4-5 days, yesterday the utility power went out with a big boom. I have the generator running and now the computer does not start at all. The LED light is on for the motherboard, indicating that the power is on for the board. Pushing the power on button results in nothing, the system does not start up.
