I recently tried to build a computer and failed epically. So I put my hardrive back in my old PC. Upon booting the PC it runs fine until it reaches :starting windows".
Where it freezes, and then restarts.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirstly my laptop (which is a Dell Inspiron N5030 running Windows 7 64 bit) starting showing up with a black screen when it was trying to come out of hibernation, it gave the status as 0xc0000242 and saying there was a fatal error with the hiberfil.sys and that it would have to restart. This continued for a while with the laptop closing all the applications that I had open when I hibernated, sometimes it would come out of hibernation without any problems at all. Then my laptop started to become very slow and particularly when loading up windows after being shutdown, restarted or hibernated. It was staying on the "starting windows" screen for about 5 minutes before actually starting up. I did a system restore on the laptop but no luck. I did a CHKDSK error check on the laptop but had no luck. I did a start up recovery but once again no luck.
Yesterday I decided to back up all my data onto an external harddrive and reinstall windows 7 completely as I have had the laptop over a year now and it was getting pretty full of junk anyway. I thought the problem had go away but it has had all of the above problems today no aswell, it is CHKDSK checking at the moment and has found several unreadable segments.
my laptop will not load up. I can get it to the screen where it says repair computer, safe mode and all that. (advance boot options) but anytime I click any off them it goes to a screen where it says I need to put in the windows installer disk. I do not have any disk but I downloaded the repair disc from my other laptop. I put the disk in the computer and restart it and it just goes back to same screen. It does not automatic rebot, or ask me to rebot from disk.

Sometimes it goes to the POST and stops there, sometimes to the windows 7 screen and stops there. Startup repair does not fix it, I have tried several system restore points none of which work (error 0X8000ffff), and the last known configuration is not working either. The Startup Repair tool is detecting no errors. The system restore tool warns me that my diagnostic power is low and a restore can not be reversed. No matter which app it is, it can be Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop, After Effects, Spotify or even a simple jpg/targa picture in any program. But just after rebooting everything works fine for about an hour or two, it's then the problem starts. View 3 Replies View RelatedA while ago i dual booted windows 7 onto my vista running laptop and it works perfectly. It is a huge improvement on vista, it is faster, better designed and its new features are very useful. Because of this success I know am trying to dual boot it onto my xp running desktop. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to like it.
I have used the same technique that i did on my laptop to install it. I have burnt the iso file onto a disk and run that disk while the computer is running. Checked for online updates and done a clean install. The installation works fine and quite quickly until it comes to the first restart. It restarts and I select "windows setup" on the bios screen as apposed to "an earlier version of windows" which is my xp partition.
It then changes to the starting windows screen that happens just like on my laptop, except the windows logo never materializes and it stays as a black screen with the words "starting windows" on it. i have left the computer on overnight and no change. I have tried reinstalling several times with no luck, both using the same method as before and booting from the disk at startup. Although when I boot from the disk it just skips straight to the same frozen windows startup screen.
I have downloaded the windows 7 adviser software but the program cant seem to make its mind up. Sometimes it announces that my graphics card cant run windows 7 aero and sometimes its fine. I have checked the windows 7 specs and my graphics card appears to meet all the requirements, both dedicated memory and direct x 9 support.

After recently building a custom PC, I am doing a clean install of Windows 7 (64 bit) and all goes well through the installation process (loading, expanding files, etc) except when after the 2nd restart when it starts up for the first time. It freezes or hangs on the black “starting windows” screen (the one with the new colored windows logo).
I have tried installation a number of times, including with a bare bones configuration (2 Gb RAM, 1 HDD, 1 DVD Drive, GPU, and all other peripherals disconnected) and still the same thing happens. I have also tried the process using the VGA cable instead of the DVI.
I was able to successfully install XP after failing to install Win7, so I don't think my HDD is bad. I am also using a PS/2 Keyboard

All components were purchased new from Newegg. I also have some peripherals: 2 DVD drives, Multi card reader, extra USB, firewire ports, wireless LAN card (although I disconnected those for the initial install attempt).
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am really at a loss to figure this one out. Could it be something to do with my video card driver? (Do I need to install that in the BIOS?)--I can see everything fine on my monitor though.

My machines issue starts when I turn it on the fans go on but the cpu fan runs the loudest and it displays nothing other attempts it turns on normal but still nothing on the display. After idk the twentieth attempt of turning on and off it finally boots up normally, but I cant do nothing major like go on the web to long because it freezes right away. i could listen to music but it will eventually freeze after fifteen minutes or the display will turn to an orange or blue screen. The pc does have some upgrades like a graphics card for two dvi inputs and power supply which were done about a year ago.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell, as the title suggests - I have an AGP HD2600, and whenever I install the ATI Display Driver (any version, from 7.10 right through to the Windows 7 Preview Drivers).
The install process itself proceeds fine without any issues (although Device Manager never recognizes my card - always calls it a VGA Adapter) but whenever I reboot after installing said drivers, it freezes at the Starting Windows section - right at the part where the desktop should load up.
I've tried compatibility mode, I've tried disabling enforced driver signatures, but the only thing that lets me boot after installing the ATI Drivers is to system restore back to the crappy VGA Adapter generic driver.
OK, trying to put windows 7 on a motion m1300 tablet. 1gig ram 1ghz cpu and 60gb hard drive. due to the bios being limiting install from xp desktop is impossible, so using an external disk drive i am trying to do a clean install, but it just stops at setup is starting, i know that seven will run on these, seen it with my own eyes, but i cannot get setup past this part.i have a feeling its the graphics driver, but getting into device manager from the language screen/ click here to install screen hasnt worked. its not in the system32 folder and so i dont know where to lookedit: before its asked, yes the disk is good, and i cant use a usb because the bios wont alow it. also the bios are up to date

i was planning to reformat in a few hours anyway so it didnt phase me to much so i continued to reformat the computer with no issues then once it had finished installing and i got to the desktop it just powered off again except this time it wouldnt load past bios it just kept restarting. the intersting part with the restarts was that the bios would restart but the power to the computer would not get interrupted. Also its not always the exact some position that it decides to restart some times it will be within 1 second sometimes i get to the desktop only for it to shut down again if i try and do anything
i have tried swapping out parts to identify the faulty part. no luck. ive stripped it down to its basic parts ( cpu Mobo ram n gfx) still same thing happens i dont even have the HDs plugged in so i dont believe it to be a virus on the HD. ive tried flashing the Cmos by taking out the battery for half an hour and this seemed to work but it asked for bootmgr so i reformated the HD again only for it all to start happening again.only this time the power does turn off some times.
i have checked the temperature of the CPU and its sitting on around 47 degrees so nothing out of the ordinary the cpu coolant gell is a bit dry but given that there doesnt seem to be a heat issue i dont know why that would make an immediate difference

it started about a few months ago, when my computer wouldn't let me play games or Internet videos one day suddenly, the screen would turn green and it would say a "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" i updated the drivers and it fixed it for ages up until yesterday. i moved my computer onto a new desk and suddenly it started going weird again, it was failing to start up, crashing 2/3 times when it was on the windows logo, then crashing and emitting a annoying buzzing noise, which i fixed by updating the system and graphic drivers again, but now it's gone back to doing the "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" error, stopping the video and or window that i'm using like msn or skype for instance. also sometimes the screen will just go a bright white and it has to be reset because you cannot see anything else on the monitor. tried with different monitor still same issues.

I don't know if my PC is dying a slow natural death or if an outside insult caused it. During a recent thunderstorm, a power flicker turned off my computer. After rebooting, I had no Internet access. That problem seems to have been simply a bad cable between the router and the cable modem, however I did have to fiddle with the tcpip settings. But while checking cables, my wireless Logitech mouse quit working. I plugged the mouse receiver into an empty USB port next to the one it had been plugged into on the rear of the machine, and it worked again. The other port is still dead. Later I found that one of the two USB ports in front of the machine no longer works. I can still use it to charge my phone, but it pops up a "Device not recognized" message if I plug a drive/camera/phone/etc into it. No conflicts are shown in the device manager. I would feel safe in assuming a power surge from lightening had popped something on the MB causing the failure, but there's another possibility. The day before all this happened I purchased a cheap 4-socket USB expansion hub and used it in one of the front sockets to plug in several devices, a scanner and my phone and camera cables. Has anyone ever heard of one of these hubs causing a blown circuit? Strange that the failing sockets are in two different physical locations.

When I tried to restart it, I get to the Windows Loading screen and a line of color moves across the top of the screen and freezes in the top right. I tried pulling the battery and starting up, starting up on just battery power, re-seating the hard drive, re-seating the RAM, pulling one DIMM and then the other and starting up that way. All of them have the same result. I ran everything in the automatic startup repair, still have the problem. Trying to run chkdsk and sfc from startup repair said I was pending a reboot for something and it couldn't run. Tried to go into safe mode with networking and it hangs after reporting halmacpi (I think).
I pulled the hard drive and connected it to my desktop, I could see everything and am currently backing up 100GB of data, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the hard drive. My next thought was to go into the repair console and see what I can do, but it's a Dell that came with Vista and a free download of 7 so I don't have any media unless I borrow a disk from work.System is a Dell E5500, Core 2 Duo P8600 with 3GB RAM.I did go through some old posts about similar sounding problems, but since they all appeared to relate to desktops, I wanted to post fresh.
running Windows 7 Ultimate, all updates installed, and Windows freezes at the Starting Windows screen quite often. The solution is to restart the computer, and it will always boot up successfully the 2nd timed say this happens for at least a third of startups, if not half. I have tried anything to fix it, but sitting at work with a minute to spare, and thought d ask if this was a common issue with an easy solution. If not, is there some log file I can check to see what going on?

I have been trying to CLEAN INSTALL windows 7 64bit or 32bit. Ive tryed both but neither seem to work. I've made a bootable USB with both iso's. I've burned both iso's to DVD's. With every try to install it i get the same results. It gets past the "windows is loading files" screen, then once it gets to the "starting windows" screen the 4 orbs show up start to make a circle and freeze. It doesnt go any further.
