Windows 7 Installation Freezes At Starting Windows
Apr 27, 2012
[code]...
I have been trying to CLEAN INSTALL windows 7 64bit or 32bit. Ive tryed both but neither seem to work. I've made a bootable USB with both iso's. I've burned both iso's to DVD's. With every try to install it i get the same results. It gets past the "windows is loading files" screen, then once it gets to the "starting windows" screen the 4 orbs show up start to make a circle and freeze. It doesnt go any further.

A while ago i dual booted windows 7 onto my vista running laptop and it works perfectly. It is a huge improvement on vista, it is faster, better designed and its new features are very useful. Because of this success I know am trying to dual boot it onto my xp running desktop. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to like it.
I have used the same technique that i did on my laptop to install it. I have burnt the iso file onto a disk and run that disk while the computer is running. Checked for online updates and done a clean install. The installation works fine and quite quickly until it comes to the first restart. It restarts and I select "windows setup" on the bios screen as apposed to "an earlier version of windows" which is my xp partition.
It then changes to the starting windows screen that happens just like on my laptop, except the windows logo never materializes and it stays as a black screen with the words "starting windows" on it. i have left the computer on overnight and no change. I have tried reinstalling several times with no luck, both using the same method as before and booting from the disk at startup. Although when I boot from the disk it just skips straight to the same frozen windows startup screen.
I have downloaded the windows 7 adviser software but the program cant seem to make its mind up. Sometimes it announces that my graphics card cant run windows 7 aero and sometimes its fine. I have checked the windows 7 specs and my graphics card appears to meet all the requirements, both dedicated memory and direct x 9 support.
Here are my pc specs:
Dell dimension 5150
XP professional sp3
3ghz intel pentium 4
5 gb RAM
Radeon x300 SE 128mb hypermemory
direct x 9.0
creative SB live! 24-bit
160gb maxator SATA HDD

If the computer has been on for an hour or so windows freezes 9 of 10 times when starting a new application. No matter which app it is, it can be Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop, After Effects, Spotify or even a simple jpg/targa picture in any program. But just after rebooting everything works fine for about an hour or two, it's then the problem starts. And it doesn't freeze always, sometimes the computer can be on for a couple of days without rebooting and I start any application normally, but that happen like 1 of 10 times. I'm running the latest drivers for the graphics card, mobo, mouse/keyboard and I've even tried with older drivers for the components but the problem still remains.

After recently building a custom PC, I am doing a clean install of Windows 7 (64 bit) and all goes well through the installation process (loading, expanding files, etc) except when after the 2nd restart when it starts up for the first time. It freezes or hangs on the black “starting windows” screen (the one with the new colored windows logo).
I have tried installation a number of times, including with a bare bones configuration (2 Gb RAM, 1 HDD, 1 DVD Drive, GPU, and all other peripherals disconnected) and still the same thing happens. I have also tried the process using the VGA cable instead of the DVI.
I was able to successfully install XP after failing to install Win7, so I don't think my HDD is bad. I am also using a PS/2 Keyboard
System:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad (Q9650) 3Ghz/1333Mhz/12MB
MBoard: Asus P5K-E
GPU: Sapphire HD 2600XT
HDD: 2 x WD 640 Gb 7200/32MB/SATA 3.0Gb/s (Caviar Black WD6401AALS)
RAM: Mushkin 4Gb DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 2Gb)
PSU: Antec NeoPower HE550w (ATX 12v)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) OEM system builder pack
All components were purchased new from Newegg. I also have some peripherals: 2 DVD drives, Multi card reader, extra USB, firewire ports, wireless LAN card (although I disconnected those for the initial install attempt).
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am really at a loss to figure this one out. Could it be something to do with my video card driver? (Do I need to install that in the BIOS?)--I can see everything fine on my monitor though.

I am with a friend re-installing Windows 7 on his laptop. Unfortunately the laptop had been infected beyond repair by a virus/malware and would not boot past bios. When installing Windows 7 x32, I make it to the "Setup is starting..." screen and it does not continue. It is not the disk as I have used the same one to install it on my laptop. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 4gb of ram and 500gb HDD space.

Setup is starting services.Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.About one month ago I decided I wanted to have a clean install of windows 7 on my acer machine. I did this by using an acer made pre-installed program. It claims to be very straightforward, all you have to do is click a button and they will reinstall windows 7 for you and even back up all your data ,so that after the clean install you don't lose a thing. Sounded great but in reality it has stopped my notebook from working.I am now in a circle-jerk of the error message I stated in the beginning of this topic. Once my computer restarts it just gets me the same error message again. I tried booting from a bootable USB-key with the windows 7 iso downloaded from official sources. But this did not do anything from me. I also went to acer support in my city. They offered me to fix it. All they had to do is copy all the info of my hard drive I wanted to keep and do a fresh install of windows 7. Would take them 3 hours. This is the easyiests option for me. But problem is I live in China and I don't trust those tech support guys for good reasons. I went there with my laptop, the tech-support guy put in a usb-key and started up my computer. It started some kind of diagnostics. After 20 minutes of this he stopped the diagnostics and started running some chinese software on my computer. Presumably booting from the USB-key. After a couple of clicks he was browsing around on my hard-drive. I was right behind him and could see him every move. He was snooping around my folders looking for all sorts of personal stuff. He was going to folders he had no business going to. I think he thought I had no idea what he was doing or would not recognize he was snooping around on my computer. At one point he went into a folder and told him not to go there in chinese. He quickly exited, but then couple of seconds later went back to that same folder to do some looking around. Presumably cause he thought I would not notice. So I do not trust these people one bit. And would not want him to copy all the info of my hard drive to then re-install windows7.

Last night, my laptop randomly shut itself off. When I tried to restart it, I get to the Windows Loading screen and a line of color moves across the top of the screen and freezes in the top right. I tried pulling the battery and starting up, starting up on just battery power, re-seating the hard drive, re-seating the RAM, pulling one DIMM and then the other and starting up that way. All of them have the same result. I ran everything in the automatic startup repair, still have the problem. Trying to run chkdsk and sfc from startup repair said I was pending a reboot for something and it couldn't run. Tried to go into safe mode with networking and it hangs after reporting halmacpi (I think).
I pulled the hard drive and connected it to my desktop, I could see everything and am currently backing up 100GB of data, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the hard drive. My next thought was to go into the repair console and see what I can do, but it's a Dell that came with Vista and a free download of 7 so I don't have any media unless I borrow a disk from work.System is a Dell E5500, Core 2 Duo P8600 with 3GB RAM.I did go through some old posts about similar sounding problems, but since they all appeared to relate to desktops, I wanted to post fresh.

running Windows 7 Ultimate, all updates installed, and Windows freezes at the Starting Windows screen quite often. The solution is to restart the computer, and it will always boot up successfully the 2nd timed say this happens for at least a third of startups, if not half. I have tried anything to fix it, but sitting at work with a minute to spare, and thought d ask if this was a common issue with an easy solution. If not, is there some log file I can check to see what going on?

My Windows 7 installation freezes every time at the "starting windows" screen right after the little orbs come together to form the windows logo. I have let it sit there for hours and nothing changes. I am doing a fresh installation on a new build.
It seems I have literally tired everything to get this to work (changing bios settings, unplugging unessential usb connections, etc.). When I boot in safe mode the installation gets further along to the "windows is configuring your computer for first time use" but eventually just leads to an error saying that setup cannot finish in safe mode and requires a reboot.
My guess is that maybe this is some sort of driver issue? I have no way of installing any drivers though if I cant even get the OS to install. I am getting extremely frustrated with this and I am amazed that its not working.
specs:
motherboard: msi p55m-gd41
graphics card: Nvidia GTS 250 512MB

I got the upgrade ultimate win 7; i am upgrading to 64 bit from xp pro 32; as directed i am going with the clean install; my system is already partitioned; at first i jus loaded the disc and change my start up to boot from disk and it would freeze at expanding files tried 3 times and all froze at different %s; after reading a few blogs i disconnected all usb's, multi card reader, all other disc drives and only kept the one running this disk; took out my 2x1GB RAM and left the 2x2GB to only run one channel;i did leave my usb mouse (Logitech MX revolution) and had to connect my key board for a sec when I had to tell it to start win normally since I interrupted boot, but disconnected again; after all this the upgrade seemed to be going awesome i selected my the partition with XP already to wipe out (150GB) and went all the way to completing installation and it froze! so i restarted after 1 hr of waiting and let it run all the way to booting from HDD and error came up saying installation not complete, restart to complete but it just keep coming up, so i started from scratch and now i froze again at expanding files..

I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium in a Compaq SG3207LA but I've run into the following issue: During the installation process, the computer freezes at random intervals, which makes me have to restart it by force. I was finally able to complete the installation and then it froze again while I was installing some application software (on normal mode). At first I thought that the power supply could be causing this issue. I checked it and measured its voltage levels and they're OK. Then I tested the hard drive using a couple of bult-in stress tests from a LiveCD (booting from it), and they completed without any errors.I then started Windows in safe mode and it doesn't freeze at all. I ran again other stress tests and again, they completed successfully.I was thinking that maybe one of two options could be the root cause of this issue:
1) The SATA controller in the motherboard - but in this case, the stress tests would show some sort of error, or it would freeze in safe mode as well, wouldn't it? I haven't yet tested with an IDE hard drive because I don't have one.
2) Some device in normal mode could be using an IRQ that is being used by some other device - this would explain -in my humble opinion- why it doesn't freeze en safe mode while it does in normal mode. But I don't know how to find out which device since this computer doesn't have anything added to it - just the onboard hardware from factory. And before I forget, I tried with 2 different installation DVDs, so I don't think this can be caused by a failed media.

So I just received some new computer parts today:
AMD Phenom II x4 960t
8gb patriot pc3 10666 ram
ASUS M5A78L-M LX motherboard
I've installed the new parts but am having a lot of difficulty installing windows. I've tried installing both windows 7 and winxp multiple times with no luck. Both of the CDs have worked in the past, and there aren't any visible scratches or damage to them. Win7 and xp freeze at random points during the installation, usually during the "completing installation" or unpacking files stage.
I've tried the installation with two different DVD drives, with only one ram stick, various bios settings, etc. One thing that I've also noticed is that it will fail to boot unless being powered off completely. For example, after the initial stage of copying/unpacking files the usual reset that windows does to continue with the installation results in only a black screen (no beep).
However, when I power down the computer completely then start it up, the installation Is able to continue but only to eventually freeze. One install did actually work, however after installing a few drivers it started freezing while windows was starting up. It would start in safe mode and I did a system restore but it continued to freeze. I figured at that point I had nothing to lose and began trying another reinstall - and now it won't work at all.

I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on my system and it freezes during expanding files. I searched all forums and information thats available online, tried everything that was listed but no solution yet.
My system is Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard, Intel Quad Core Processor, 6 GB RAM on 3 slots, I had a 250 GB before this process but i bought a 1 TB 7200 RPM HD thinking that it would solve the problem somehow.
I took out all USB items including mouse & keyboard and using PS2 mouse/kb now. Also took out 2 RAMs leaving only one 2 GB. Now the machine only has the mother board, processor, video card, 2 gb ram, ps2 mouse & keyboard, and the monitors.
I checked BIOS, and i have the latest update. Tried everything on BIOS from setting it to Safe Mode, Disabling all USB ports, Internal Audio Device, and pretty much everything that i found online. Im just yet to flush the BIOS, change DVD drive and install it from a flash drive.

I just installed a new SSD and put a few programs on it. I boot windows XP from my current HDD. I also have a copy of windows 7 that has only been used once, so I was going to use another one of the installs from the disc for my computer. I wanted to put windows 7 on the new SSD, while leaving xp on the old HDD. I would then just make the SSD have boot priority, without having to worry about formatting the old HDD etc.
Well, when I put windows 7 in, and choose to boot from disc, it'll show the black screen where the loading bar goes to completion, then switches to a black screen where the colored balls form the windows logo, and finally the screen turns blue with some slight designs in the back (I believe it's the default windows 7 wallpaper). The mouse icon shows up, but that's it.
I can hear the disc stop spinning, and no additional windows pop up allowing me to complete installation and everything. I've reset all BIOS settings to default. I've tried making the SSD have boot priority over the HDD but it still freezes at the same spot. Everything I've done cause it to freeze at the same spot, actually. I've triple checked that all of my hardware is compatible with windows 7.

It all started when I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 from my Vista x64. I had nothing of importance on the computer, so why not do a clean install and start fresh? It installed fine and rebooted several times until the computer had the Setup Is Checking Video Performance, it froze on that screen. I had to reboot it and now here is my current issue.....
Installation is going fine, goes to Completing Installation and then reboots..Then shows a black screen with blinking cursor for 5 minutes. Then restarts itself and has Windows Recovery Error. I chose Start Windows Normally and it goes to Starting Windows screen with the logo. I've tried letting it sit there for 30 minutes until it restarts itself and states..Windows failed to start. A recent software or hardware change may be the cause..etc etc..
So basically it's just a constant cycle of Starting Windows screen and Windows Recovery Error screen Unless I press f10 to go into the Boot Options.

Yesterday night my laptop installed an update and I remember it prompting me to restart my computer. Instead I chose the option to postpone the update. I erred when I forgot to restart my computer before going to sleep and instead had put it into sleep mode. Upon resuming windows, my screen was black and there was an error (which I failed to note but it was something about "logging in").
I tried force-powering off my laptop and upon reaching the "Windows Starting", I notice that the logo freezes. The computer appears unresponsive but after a couple of minutes, I am taken to my account log-in screen.
I read somewhere that this might be the result of a corrupt C file. Will a system restore fix the problem? (On the system restore there is a timestamp for "Windows Update" of type "Critical" that was installed around the time I postponed the restart). Is there a way I can scan my computer for corrupted files?

I have compaq presario sr1630nx and I have an issue that started after I opened the case and used my compressor to blow the dust out of it its not the first time ive done this like 4 times to be exact. My machines issue starts when I turn it on the fans go on but the cpu fan runs the loudest and it displays nothing other attempts it turns on normal but still nothing on the display. After idk the twentieth attempt of turning on and off it finally boots up normally, but I cant do nothing major like go on the web to long because it freezes right away. i could listen to music but it will eventually freeze after fifteen minutes or the display will turn to an orange or blue screen. The pc does have some upgrades like a graphics card for two dvi inputs and power supply which were done about a year ago.

Well, as the title suggests - I have an AGP HD2600, and whenever I install the ATI Display Driver (any version, from 7.10 right through to the Windows 7 Preview Drivers).
The install process itself proceeds fine without any issues (although Device Manager never recognizes my card - always calls it a VGA Adapter) but whenever I reboot after installing said drivers, it freezes at the Starting Windows section - right at the part where the desktop should load up.
I've tried compatibility mode, I've tried disabling enforced driver signatures, but the only thing that lets me boot after installing the ATI Drivers is to system restore back to the crappy VGA Adapter generic driver.
