My problem is that during Windows 7 Ultimate installation (right after the first reboot) the screen goes black! The monitor does not loose the signal because I can still see the green solid LED on it. I have run into this issue four times with four different PCs with four different configurations. The only common denominator here is the type of video card (I say the type of video card because this has happened with different brands and models of video cards). This has happened only with video cards that have DVI, S-Video and VGA ports, but only on the ones that have the VGA port that PLUGS through a little ribbon cable to the card it self. I have successfully installed Windows 7 on systems that have video cards with the same ports but the VGA port is solder to the card. It seems that after the first reboot and after it displays "Starting Windows", Windows thinks that the active port on the video card is the DVI port and NOT the VGA port that has been using up until that point! I know this because I have used a DVI to VGA adapter right after the screen goes black and there it is! the setup process waiting for my input (create a user)...

I am with a friend re-installing Windows 7 on his laptop. Unfortunately the laptop had been infected beyond repair by a virus/malware and would not boot past bios. When installing Windows 7 x32, I make it to the "Setup is starting..." screen and it does not continue. It is not the disk as I have used the same one to install it on my laptop. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 4gb of ram and 500gb HDD space.

A while ago i dual booted windows 7 onto my vista running laptop and it works perfectly. It is a huge improvement on vista, it is faster, better designed and its new features are very useful. Because of this success I know am trying to dual boot it onto my xp running desktop. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to like it.
I have used the same technique that i did on my laptop to install it. I have burnt the iso file onto a disk and run that disk while the computer is running. Checked for online updates and done a clean install. The installation works fine and quite quickly until it comes to the first restart. It restarts and I select "windows setup" on the bios screen as apposed to "an earlier version of windows" which is my xp partition.
It then changes to the starting windows screen that happens just like on my laptop, except the windows logo never materializes and it stays as a black screen with the words "starting windows" on it. i have left the computer on overnight and no change. I have tried reinstalling several times with no luck, both using the same method as before and booting from the disk at startup. Although when I boot from the disk it just skips straight to the same frozen windows startup screen.
I have downloaded the windows 7 adviser software but the program cant seem to make its mind up. Sometimes it announces that my graphics card cant run windows 7 aero and sometimes its fine. I have checked the windows 7 specs and my graphics card appears to meet all the requirements, both dedicated memory and direct x 9 support.
Here are my pc specs:
Dell dimension 5150
XP professional sp3
3ghz intel pentium 4
5 gb RAM
Radeon x300 SE 128mb hypermemory
direct x 9.0
creative SB live! 24-bit
160gb maxator SATA HDD

I have been encountering this same error code in one of my machines. I get the Error Code: 0x8007050 during installation of Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. It occurs during the expansion of files phase, during instalation, with the message "Windows cannot install the required files. Make sure the required files are available..."
Machine Specs:
Intel DP43TF MB
Intel Quad Core 8300 CPU
4GB OCZ ATI DDR2 RAM
Antec 500 Watt PSU
Hitachi HDS725050 KLA360 HD
and later a Seagate ST3640323AS HD.
In previous installations of Win 7, I've observed that about 29MB are copied to the System Reserved partition. In this scenario, only 11MB are copied. I've performed the following trouble shooting in order:
- Changed out the DVD drive. Tried installation again without success.
- Performed factory system restore on the hard drive. Tried installation again without success.
- Replaced the hard drive with a new one. Tried installation again without success.
- Removed all PCI cards, and tried again with just the PCI-E video card. Tried installation again without success.
- Replaced the PCI-E video card with a PCI card. Tried installation again without success.
- Cloned the "System Reserved" partition from another PC with a functioning install of the same OS. Tried installation again without success.
It should be noted that this specific machine was previously running Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I was simply attempting to upgrade the hard drive. I've also tried to install Win 7 Home and Win 7 Pro, all with the exact same error code, which occurs during the same phase of installation. I also tried to perform an Upgrade install. The machine accepted a complete install of Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit (twice), but had the same error codes appear during the Upgrade install to Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I reformatted and reinstalled same Vista 64 bit OS. I tried to install Win 7 Pro 64 Bit, and again encountered the same error codes. Incidentally, I have used 3 different Retail Win 7 install media. The machine passes all MemTest and CPU diagnostics.

I'm having a reoccurring issue with Windows 7 that always presents itself some weeks after I install it. I've run into this issue of installing windows updates only to have a blank screen with only the cursor present after I login from boot many times and have always had to reinstall. I'm wondering why this issue keeps happening, and what I can do to fix it.Ive tried sfc /scannow /offbootdir ..... several times but it either says it will do it on the next restart (which it doesnt) or it just says it can't run it.

I have problems entering windows after the first installation of Windows 7 64 bit built 7000.After seconds the welcome (splash) screen appears, the windows suddenly reboot automaticaly. After that, black screen appears with dashes blinking.(Actually, my current OS is Windows 7 32 bit built 7600, but I think it isn't cause of the problems. I have formatted the local drive, in which my current OS was installed, before I install Win 7 64 bit).

I have zero history of this box. I aquired it from a friend. eMachine EL 1850 Win 7 First power on, asks to start in repair or normal Starting with repair, hangs on Starting Windows screen. Screen does not full load, 'Starting Windows' is very light in the back ground. No colors over this text. Power off/Power on same message Starting with normal startup, it hangs at almost the exact spot, except 'Starting Windows' text is fully visible, and you can see two color dots from the rest of the logo starting to appear.
I've never seen a computer freeze at this point ever. So starts the battery of tests. Physically, the computer looks OK on the inside. No burn marks, etc. Delete key takes me to CMOS. Settings are correct. Attempt restarts with USB settings disabled yields same result as before. F8 takes me to start options. Every single option yields same result:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/Networking
Safe Mode w/Command Prompt
Debugging
Like eight different options, no success. Alt + F10 takes me to a screen with a command line (no prompt) and nothing else Will not boot from Windows 7 CD. All attempts to do so yield same results as above. Safe Mode stops loading after Classpnp.sys I am utterly stumped. We have tried everything we can think of and it all takes us to the same half loaded loading screen. We tried a DOS boot disk, but were unable to see it completely thro as the disk seemed to be made incorrectly.

My computer gets stuck on the "starting windows" screen when booting. It was working fine before that and I haven't changed anything at all. I had left my computer on overnight, found it had frozen, rebooted and then the 'starting windows' screen now hangs. I can get into safe mode.
Could the latest automatic windows update have caused this?

I'm unable to run windows normally thanks to the "BOOTMGR is missing" error. When I try to reinstall Windows 7, it hangs on the "Setup is starting..." screen. When I open the cmd.exe using SHIFT+F10, I am able to access all of my drives, except for the D: drive. When I attempt to execute any command on that drive, it does absolutely nothing except give me a blinking cursor on the next line. I've let it sit there for about an hour, and still nothing, along with the "Setup is starting..." screen.Even if I could get past the BOOTMGR screen, I would be stopped by a blue screen that says: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, builder version, SP 1 part of install disk.Just upgraded my case, transferred all equipment (on static mat with grounding strap to me attached to case), plugged everything back in. When I booted up, posted fine, got to login screen fine, then when it got to "Welcome" screen, it seemed to just sit with the "loading" circle constantly spinning.I can get into safe mode with no problem. Running repair with disk returned with no errors. The only thing I changed internally was -1 front usb connection, and I now have my HDD and Optical drive hooked into SATA 6 ports, before Optical was SATA 6 port and HDD was SATA 3 port. BIOS is seeing HDD and Optical at correct locations.when I loaded up safe mode, I got a message saying the computer had to be restarted for changes to take effect. All updates to Windows must be approved by me before downloading and installing.

I currently have Windows 7 RC(Build 7100) x64 installed on my Lenovo Y650. The problem im currently having is that almost all of the drivers/system devices I try to install on windows hang during installation. In earlier builds I never had this problem, and it has only recently started happening. In fact, I am running 7100 only because the RTM build refused to install the drivers for my printer(which i needed badly) and I had to revert to 7100.
So far I have had this problem of hanging driver installs with my ipod, my blackjack II(installing windows mobile center), and updating my synaptic drivers. the install windows just sit there and nothing ever happens. I can eventually end the processes but I experience a slow down in performance that is only fixed by rebooting.
The strange thing about this whole problem is that I already had this exact build installed before had no problems with it, this has only started after i reinstalled(clean) with the RTM.
I have already searched google for all my specific problems and found nothing useful. Does anybody have any tips/fixes I can try that I may have overlooked?

I just built this computer a couple of months ago, yesterday I turned on my computer in the morning, and it ran fine, did my usual morning website raid on soccer etc, turned it off went out to do some errands, came back and turned it on and it kept hanging on the "Windows Loading" screen, read around about a couple of things it could be, i think I narrowed it down to my secondard hard drive (WD 500G Caviar Blue) which i use for storage and downloads, all my games and OS are installed on my solid state.
So whenever my secondary hard drive is plugged in, my comp hangs on "Windows Loading". If i unplug it, it loads up windows quick and easy like always. I turned on hot swap, and if i plugged in my HDD after my computer was already loading into windows, it would be fine than once it recognized it, it would start crashing my windows explorer etc constantly. I tried switching SATA ports, now it goes into windows with the hard drive plugged into another SATA port, the HDD is recoginzed in Disk Management, and is also recognized in device manager, but I cant access it.
These are my specs.

I have a home build pc msi mother board p45 neo, 2gb corsair ram, nvida geforce 9800, wd 400 hd & WD 160. After I shut down and restarted PC it states windows is staring but never loads.I tried to go in safe mode trying all their options but nothing happens, I can not go into safe mode.I also tried booting from the cd but still it will not load.
I have search several internet boards and have tried everything, so while searching the boards from another computer it finally went into the option for sytem restore or repair I hit system repair and it ran thru a few things and i neglected to copy down the results but i believe it said something about boot config error. hit repair I hit repair and it said to click finish and restart still nothing.

Setup is starting services.Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.About one month ago I decided I wanted to have a clean install of windows 7 on my acer machine. I did this by using an acer made pre-installed program. It claims to be very straightforward, all you have to do is click a button and they will reinstall windows 7 for you and even back up all your data ,so that after the clean install you don't lose a thing. Sounded great but in reality it has stopped my notebook from working.I am now in a circle-jerk of the error message I stated in the beginning of this topic. Once my computer restarts it just gets me the same error message again. I tried booting from a bootable USB-key with the windows 7 iso downloaded from official sources. But this did not do anything from me. I also went to acer support in my city. They offered me to fix it. All they had to do is copy all the info of my hard drive I wanted to keep and do a fresh install of windows 7. Would take them 3 hours. This is the easyiests option for me. But problem is I live in China and I don't trust those tech support guys for good reasons. I went there with my laptop, the tech-support guy put in a usb-key and started up my computer. It started some kind of diagnostics. After 20 minutes of this he stopped the diagnostics and started running some chinese software on my computer. Presumably booting from the USB-key. After a couple of clicks he was browsing around on my hard-drive. I was right behind him and could see him every move. He was snooping around my folders looking for all sorts of personal stuff. He was going to folders he had no business going to. I think he thought I had no idea what he was doing or would not recognize he was snooping around on my computer. At one point he went into a folder and told him not to go there in chinese. He quickly exited, but then couple of seconds later went back to that same folder to do some looking around. Presumably cause he thought I would not notice. So I do not trust these people one bit. And would not want him to copy all the info of my hard drive to then re-install windows7.

After booting, the computer freezes at the welcome screen after logging in as any of the users. Sometimes it will restart automatically, other times it has to be "hard shut down". It freezes at the same time, consistently. Occasionally, through an unknown set of steps, I can get the computer to boot properly. It crashes after a short while of using it, and then once again crashes at the welcome screen. Every time it has crashed so far it was while playing a game (not necessarily graphics-intensive). Again, after this crash the computer returns to just crashing at the Welcome Screen.

I have been trying to CLEAN INSTALL windows 7 64bit or 32bit. Ive tryed both but neither seem to work. I've made a bootable USB with both iso's. I've burned both iso's to DVD's. With every try to install it i get the same results. It gets past the "windows is loading files" screen, then once it gets to the "starting windows" screen the 4 orbs show up start to make a circle and freeze. It doesnt go any further.

I have an hp 9400f, and had windows 7 ultimate x64 or x86 installed. Two days ago, I unplugged my logitech keyboard. By doing so, it triggered some sort of reaction. The monitor visual showed the screen distorted in coloring, so i assumed that i moved the graphics card a little. I restarted my computer, and when i did, it wouldn't go past the bios screen. I'd get the "hp " blue screen, but would not work ( system recovery ) .The symptoms my computer has right now is the blinking underscore, and from that point on, nothing happens. It stays at that point, never moves on. I have restarted my computer countlessly. I also noticed that when its on this screen, and I press / hold on to a key, my motherboard will make a "clicking" noise repeatedly directly related to the amount of times i press the key. It's instantaneous. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it though .many people have encountered this issue. One forum had a comment which said this was a result from faulty ram. I have removed each stick of ram, but i have not seen any sort of change
