Windows Loading Screen Hang - Caused By Secondary HDD

Nov 19, 2012

I just built this computer a couple of months ago, yesterday I turned on my computer in the morning, and it ran fine, did my usual morning website raid on soccer etc, turned it off went out to do some errands, came back and turned it on and it kept hanging on the "Windows Loading" screen, read around about a couple of things it could be, i think I narrowed it down to my secondard hard drive (WD 500G Caviar Blue) which i use for storage and downloads, all my games and OS are installed on my solid state.

So whenever my secondary hard drive is plugged in, my comp hangs on "Windows Loading". If i unplug it, it loads up windows quick and easy like always. I turned on hot swap, and if i plugged in my HDD after my computer was already loading into windows, it would be fine than once it recognized it, it would start crashing my windows explorer etc constantly. I tried switching SATA ports, now it goes into windows with the hard drive plugged into another SATA port, the HDD is recoginzed in Disk Management, and is also recognized in device manager, but I cant access it.

These are my specs.

GTX 285 Driver Not Loading On Boot = Hang At Win Statup

Dec 6, 2009

So this is not the first box I've built but it is the first time I have not been able to boot easily for so long. The symptoms are that it hangs at the windows logo on the start screen, most times. If I do a safe boot, then sometimes it will boot successfully afterwards.

I can play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, watch movies but opening a picture would cause a BSOD. I fixed the last symptom by reseating the card and installing the latest driver (195.62) while only the vga monitor is connected. It still hangs at the start screen though on a cold boot.

I have used the Windows 7 mem test to confirm it's not memory. I have then done a boot log (ntbtlog.txt) and I can see the following lines repeated as it tries and retries to load drivers:

Did not load driver @hal.inf,%acpi_amd64.devicedesc%;ACPI x64-based PC

Did not load driver @cpu.inf,%intelppm.devicedesc%;Intel Processor

... (more of the previous line)

Did not load driver @oem6.inf,%nvidia_dev.05e3.01%;NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

This happened on the driver that came with the device too. I can tried repair installs and clean installs of my OS. I tried deleting the driver altogether and then letting windows load a driver for it and same result. Aside from sending the card into the manufacturer for testing, are there any ideas out there on what i can do?

Sadly, I am actually enjoying the challenge. Mostly because on the rare occasion I can boot normally and use my pc normally and leave it on for easy's sake.

Booting Hangs Infinitely At "windows Loading", Caused By Driver?

May 9, 2012

Computer Stats: 2009 Macbook Pro running Windows 7 Ultimate x32 via boot camp, all drivers up to date as of last night, no non-factory parts or tampering with any system files. Issue: Around a month ago, I noticed my laptop freeze up whenever I left it unattended for more than half an hour. Sometimes it would lag for 30 seconds or so and then be fine, sometimes I would have to reboot entirely. This happened again two days ago and upon rebooting it became stuck during the animation at the "windows loading" screen. I restarted and used F8 to pull up the advanced boot menu, chose "system repair", and it went through two loading screens before presenting a black screen of death that never seems to change. Booting in safe mode works, which I've used to scour the internet for fixes and ways to get incredibly drunk. Attempted Fixes: A full system virus scan (duration: 13 hours) with Kaspersky, Malware Bytes, and Panda. Nothing was returned save a few false-positives from torrents (only trusted trackers, nothing dodgy file-wise). Used the "repair my computer" option at F8'd start-up multiple times to no avail. Used "sfc/scannow" twice, which downloaded some windows updates but didn't fix anything. Yelled really loudly at computer and raised my hand as if to smack it, intimidating it into submission but not fixing core issue.

Here is the result of my bootlog, but before that I'll note that it hangs on "Loaded driver SystemRootsystem32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS" for about thirty seconds when loading in safe mode. I thought that might have been the root and downloaded another copy of classpnp.sys, but again it didn't change anything:

Quote: Loaded driver SystemRootsystem32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS
Did not load driver @hal.inf,%acpiapic.devicedesc%;ACPI x86-based PC
Did not load driver @battery.inf,%*compbatt.devicedesc%;Microsoft Composite Battery
Did not load driver @battery.inf,%*compbatt.devicedesc%;Microsoft Composite Battery

[Code].....

edit: I made a system recovery disk and attempted to use both its automatic fix feature and its "detect memory problems" feature. Both came back completely fine. Nothing has changed.

edit: Startup Repair has verified that the root cause is a driver. However, I've no idea which one. Surely that's contained somewhere in the bootlog.

Another Hang On Welcome Screen Windows 7

Mar 18, 2012

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, builder version, SP 1 part of install disk.Just upgraded my case, transferred all equipment (on static mat with grounding strap to me attached to case), plugged everything back in. When I booted up, posted fine, got to login screen fine, then when it got to "Welcome" screen, it seemed to just sit with the "loading" circle constantly spinning.I can get into safe mode with no problem. Running repair with disk returned with no errors. The only thing I changed internally was -1 front usb connection, and I now have my HDD and Optical drive hooked into SATA 6 ports, before Optical was SATA 6 port and HDD was SATA 3 port. BIOS is seeing HDD and Optical at correct locations.when I loaded up safe mode, I got a message saying the computer had to be restarted for changes to take effect. All updates to Windows must be approved by me before downloading and installing.

"Loading Operating System..." Hang After Shutdown/restart

Oct 4, 2012

This is my first post and wasn't sure which exact board to post to so I thought installation might be one. I have a windows 7 64bit machine installed on a 250gb hdd. Here is the exact sequence of events. Shutdown computer last night (it had been on for 2 days straight). Turned it on this morning, bios screen loads fine then it jumps to a black screen with the text "Loading Operating System..." and it hangs there. I tried multiple configurations to detect the problem. I feared for the life of my hdd. I unplugged my other 2 hdd and the dvd drive from power and sata and rebooted. Now I get "Loading Operating System..." BOOT DRIVE FAILED INSERT CD AND PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE. Re-install any other drive combo and get the standard hang screen. I made no major changes to my setup in the last 2 days, no software, no windows update, no hardware changes whatsoever.

Pc Hang At Welcome Screen

Jan 13, 2011

After booting, the computer freezes at the welcome screen after logging in as any of the users. Sometimes it will restart automatically, other times it has to be "hard shut down". It freezes at the same time, consistently. Occasionally, through an unknown set of steps, I can get the computer to boot properly. It crashes after a short while of using it, and then once again crashes at the welcome screen. Every time it has crashed so far it was while playing a game (not necessarily graphics-intensive). Again, after this crash the computer returns to just crashing at the Welcome Screen.

Screen Goes Black (PC Does NOT Hang) After First Stage Of Installation

Apr 6, 2010

My problem is that during Windows 7 Ultimate installation (right after the first reboot) the screen goes black! The monitor does not loose the signal because I can still see the green solid LED on it. I have run into this issue four times with four different PCs with four different configurations. The only common denominator here is the type of video card (I say the type of video card because this has happened with different brands and models of video cards). This has happened only with video cards that have DVI, S-Video and VGA ports, but only on the ones that have the VGA port that PLUGS through a little ribbon cable to the card it self. I have successfully installed Windows 7 on systems that have video cards with the same ports but the VGA port is solder to the card. It seems that after the first reboot and after it displays "Starting Windows", Windows thinks that the active port on the video card is the DVI port and NOT the VGA port that has been using up until that point! I know this because I have used a DVI to VGA adapter right after the screen goes black and there it is! the setup process waiting for my input (create a user)...

Black Screen W/ Cursor After Windows 7 Loading Screen?

Mar 24, 2012

Recently, my computer starts up windows and after the loading screen it just sits at a black screen forever with a cursor and it doesn't even make it to the log in screen. I have tried safe mode with the same results. What I've Done So FarTried to Repair Startup with Windows DVD Tried to use sfc /scannow at boot (Says pending changes and needs to restart) Tried logging into my Ubuntu partition and virus scanning (None found) Tried copying Reg Files from Regback into config while I was in Linux Tried to Repair Install (But I can't log into Windows ) Tried to bootrec /fixmbr /fixbot /RebuildBcd (Which destroyed my dual boot linux grub, but I was desperate. And still nothing) Interestingly though, after I do /RebuildBcd command it says something like "Found Windows Installations: 0" Tried to System Restore (Gave me an Error, wouldn't you know) At this point I'm not to confident that this can be fixed. If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to try. Or if you have any snazzy suggestions on how I could fix it using another computer, I have a different Windows Pro x64 computer that I can put the HD in if there's someway I can save my data/fix it/repair install from there. I just don't know how.

Edit: I finished the chkdsk and there were no bad sectors, though it did give me a message "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50."I did a Windows Defender Offline scan with no viruses and I'm currently scanning with Kaspersky Rescue disk. I don't believe it is a virus, I think it's a corruptregistry at this point. I had just cleaned my registry with CCleaner before the shutdown that led to this >.<

Windows 7 Stuck At Loading Screen

Apr 19, 2011

I rebooted my PC after installing the latest version of iTunes, and upon reboot I couldn't get past the motherboard splash screen. I tried removing each stick of RAM individually, I tried removing the battery, but finally it was clearing the CMOS which helped me at least get past the mobo splash screen (after pulling out all of the USB devices plugged in otherwise it would also freeze), but now it gets stuck on the Windows 7 loading screen.

I tried entering the Windows 7 repair function, but it freezes on a black screen (I waited about 20 minutes).

I tried booting into safe mode, but it gets stuck while loading this file: AVGIDSEH.sys

Now since I can't even boot into windows to try to do any kind of diagnosis, I figured I would create a USB drive portable version of Windows 7.

My question is, if I manage to boot into my portable Windows, what kind of tests should I run?

Finally one last question, typically when Windows 7 gets stuck at loading is it hardware related or would a complete re-install fix the issue? At this point I just need to get it back and running I don't care about losing my settings and programs.

Windows Seems To Install Fine / Can't Even Get To Loading Screen

Mar 13, 2011

I'm trying to get windows 7 ultimate on a new WD SATA hard drive. I get through the installation process which recognizes the drive and lets me install on it and seems to fully install. When it automatically restarts and the windows loading screen should appear, the computer just restarts itself and doesn't even let me get to windows.I've tried messing around with some of the BIOS settings, but I'm no expert in that and I seem to be running out of options.I've tried installing the x64 and x82- both give the same problem. One potential thing I'm seeing is that after the initial screen showing my computer specs on start up, I have a RAID screen which AFAIK shouldn't really matter too much since I'm just using one HD, but it does not detect any drives. Going into the RAID setup I can't change anything either because it needs to install something (which I can't - no floppy) or it won't let me for this configuration. My motherboard is a Foxconn 915G7AC/P7AC (unfortunately not the best when it comes to drivers and support stuff, hey - it was cheap and had good reviews when I bought it!)4 Gigs of RAM.My cd/dvd drive is SATA as well, in case that matters (from what I've read searching around other drives being SATA or IDE had some sort of effect)
